Bo takes the ioun stone.. "Since i seem to be the frontrunner now id like to tkae this if noone objects.. And lets come back this model thing when this place is all cleaned up and the dam is taken care of.." Bo moves out and to the south the check that room out..
drbuzzard |
This narrow chamber ends at two curved alcoves, one to the east and one to the west. Each alcove is enclosed by a dull iron portcullis. A winch next to each provides a way to raise or lower the gates. Beyond each portcullis a circle of runes glows with a faint orange light on the floor. Inside the circle to the west is a pile of crimson ash, while inside the circle to the east is curled what appears to be a long-dead devil, its flesh taut and dry on its bones.
You can make a knowledge planes check to figure out what the devil is.
As you enter the room, he starts to rouse, but very shakily. In your mind you hear a voice "Please, you must help me. "
"Bandersnatch" McTwilliger |
no problem w you taking it but really Bander should be goong first
Tirion Took |
Tirion uses his inner voice to say:
"Pfft! Like we care; bye-bye, little devil!"
"I don't think we need to do anything for it, Draingore. In fact, I'm rather pleased to see it's predicament..."
he moves to the west:
"I wonder what's over here?"
Tirion's Perception check: 1d20 + 15 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 15 + 5 = 28
fully expecting to see 'C14' stenciled on the floor...

Know Planes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 ha..
Bo frowns at the devils appearence.. "I am only allowed to deal which such filth it's it for the greater good.. If what you say is true and we cannot fix the dam than only then you might have yourself a deal. Is the one that bound you still around here?"
drbuzzard |
"Bound me? That damned Karzoug! That was millennia ago. I know not where he is now. He certainly isn't here. He moved onto other things once he did this trivial task. That arrogant human scum. "
"But I can tell you this dam will surely fail if the floodgates are not opened, and I know how one operates the mechanism. "
"Bandersnatch" McTwilliger |
Maybe we should go and try to figure it out first. He doesn't seem very nice.
"Bandersnatch" McTwilliger |
oh
Brother. Maybe you should try playing with the magical thingy. I couldn't figure it out but maybe you can.
also is anyone under an illusion we don't have to fight this thing
Robert "Bo" Hardin |
Im not worried about the devil so much as having to work with it.. Paladin over here afterall.. Pretty sure saving hundreds of lives will make it ok though..
"Let's search the room to the west and then we'll figure out what to do here.." Bo heads to the other room.
drbuzzard |
"No! Please! Don't leave! I'll tell you. The dam runs on life force. The floodgates are automatic run via a magical mechanism which drains life force for power. Two of us were plucked from hell and make to power this device. The centuries have added up. My fellow prisoner was sucked dry and burnt to ash with the last flood, and now only I remain, with not enough energy to power the device. If someone steps into the other circle to the west, they will give up some of their life force to power the device. You have to free me first though, or I will be wrung out dry into ask. A life of my magnitude cannot be squandered like that!"
Robert "Bo" Hardin |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
"Even if that is the case im sure you can wait 10 more minutes while we search the other room.."
Robert "Bo" Hardin |
While in the room without the devil he speaks to the party.. "It seems we have no choice but to work with the fiend. We need to repair the dam.. Being lawful though it should adhire to any promises so i will demand it make such promises before we continue. If it comes to sacrificing lifeforces as he says I will volunteer. Does anyone else volunteer?"
Robert "Bo" Hardin |
1d20 ⇒ 11
Draingore the Wretched |
Draingore takes out a pipe and packs it full of skunky smelling green leaves. He takes a really deep inhale from the pipe, and his eyes close. He fights the urge to cough it out for what seems like minutes. Finally his lungs release the smoke, and he coughs. So why dids we come hear again? Draingore says in a haze.
"Bandersnatch" McTwilliger |
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 Assuming images are gone after all this blathering.
Not sure I want to give up life-force...
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Tirion Took |
Tirion proposes that Bo run in and get into the side with the ashes, and brace for the drain pain. The rest of us try using the model to control the flow. We move quickly, and without coordinating with that devil dude -- Tirion wants to destroy the evil thing, but minimize suffering. (Ya gotta feel for the nasty thing a little -- it's suffered enough. No need to let it ponder It's doom by telling it in advance...)
drbuzzard |
The minute Draingore enters the circle, a pillar of dark energy envelops him and the shriveled devil. The devil screams out "NO!!! You had to release me!!! I can't die ..." and he is cut off as his body is reduced to ash. Draingore feels some of his life force leave him, but gains no other adverse effect (1 negative level).
You hear a grinding noise deep below you as the floodgates open and a controlled release of water takes place, relieving the strain on the dam. The town has been saved.
Tirion Took |
there was a 1927 indian-head nickel on the floor there! (one must have read the classic parody "Bored of the Rings" to get that reference...)
"Good on you, Draingore! Perhaps now we can proceed to a real city, where we can find a palliative for your sacrifice -- and perhaps buy some proper equipment!"
"Bandersnatch" McTwilliger |
I don't think anyone said we were going to release him. And I bet there are some that would argue we did release him. Anythjbf else we need to do here or should we head back?
"Bandersnatch" McTwilliger |
ah yes, that is right. Anyone remember where we go for that?
"Bandersnatch" McTwilliger |
Hey Pixel? Can we rest here or do we need to race off to take care of your revenge?
