To the south, this long room is empty save for a large mound of compost covered with tiny black mushrooms heaped nearly to the ceiling in the southeast corner of the room, while to the north, an old kitchen seems to have been repurposed into some sort of indoor garden. A workbench cluttered with pottery stills and glass alembics stands below small alcoves filled with vials and beakers. Dozens of clay vessels rest haphazardly on wooden boxes, each sprouting neatly-pruned shrubs or large, exotic mushrooms. They appear surprisingly well-tended, given the state of the rest of the building, though the roots of several have burst through their pots.
As the light from your torches illumiates the room, the mushroom-covered mound of compost starts to shift as it's surface oozes forward toward the group!

You are hitting it and seem to be affecting it.
An ooze is an amorphous or mutable creature, usually mindless.
An ooze has the following features.
•d8 Hit Die.
•Base attack bonus equal to 3/4 total Hit Dice (medium progression).
•No good saving throws.
•Skill points equal to 2 + Int modifier (minimum 1) per Hit Die. However, most oozes are mindless and gain no skill points or feats. Oozes do not have any class skills.
Traits: An ooze possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature's entry).
•Mindless: No Intelligence score, and immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects). An ooze with an Intelligence score loses this trait.
•Blind (but have the blindsight special quality), with immunity to gaze attacks, visual effects, illusions, and other attack forms that rely on sight.
•Immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, polymorph, and stunning.
•Some oozes have the ability to deal acid damage to objects.
•Not subject to critical hits or flanking. Does not take additional damage from precision-based attacks, such as sneak attack.
•Proficient with its natural weapons only.
•Proficient with no armor.
•Oozes eat and breathe, but do not sleep.

Round 1
Sparrow pulls her bow to fire another arrow, then stops, instead choosing to cast a divination. "The creature's an Aranea. A spellcaster of sorts in it's own right. I've read about 'em when I was younger. Those up there are images to befuddle us, I think. Checking now." As her spell goes off, she examines the area above for magical auras.
Cast Detect Magic, search the area for magical auras.

@Sparrow: Yep, mirror images. They can't do anything but hang there.
Aside from the potions, there is nothing magical in this area.
Checking the next room (6) you see a windowless room lit by a single brass lantern hanging from a rusty nail on the northern wall. Dozens, perhaps hundreds of moths crawl throughout the ceiling’s rotting rafters and on the moldering curtains of boarded windows. Your lights them, causing their movements to cast eerie, wiggling shadows on every surface. Old floorboards have been ripped up in the room’s corner, allowing a flight of earthen steps to lead down into the ground
You also see the body of a dead pig, swathed in webbing, apparently the creature's most recent meal.
| The_Ninja_DM |
| DM Ninja/infinite |
|
@Brin: The walls of this low-ceilinged basement are decorated by curtains made out of a mix of thick sheets of webs adorned with countless dead insects. Most of these are flies and mosquitoes, some quite large. At the far end of the room sits a low wooden table on which a hideous shape crouches—a human-sized statue of an insectile monster made from corn husks, dry branches, rags, and bones. The floor of the room is an uneven layer of moist soil and earth, and three shovels, their blades caked with earth, lean against the side of the stairs.
For those still upstairs: The front room has a rickety ladder leading up.
@Alkaid: the creaure is in negatives, you can secure it and heal it if you wish to ask it questions.
| The_Ninja_DM |
| DM Ninja/infinite |
|
Closer inspection of the statue and the room reveals not only that parts of the disturbing statue have been splashed with blood, but that a number of strange objects lie under the table: a dozen cult robes and mosquito masks.
Further examnation of the disturbed area of the floor reveals more bodies, many nothing more than skeletons now, with a few much fresher. The freshest, the red haired one, is still wearing a suit of ruined, blood-stained nobleman’s clothes.
KN: Religion 20 to identify the statue. (Or common sense to draw a likely conclusion.)
Alkaid: the still badly wounded creature starts to change, shifting into a human form, that of an elderly human woman...Alizna the town weaver.
| The_Ninja_DM |
| DM Ninja/infinite |
|
@Alkaid: the old woman looks at you and comments ['b]"Pity, this is such a good feeding ground."[/b] She smiles, unplesantly. "But then, you still have to face the rest." She chuckles evilly "I'd say 'good luck, you'll need it', but...I'd prefer you fail."
It was in it's base form. It has that, it's humaoid form and a hybrid form.
