"I've had just about enough of you..."

Filraen's sword disappears, and with his other hand he draws out a gnarled wooden shaft with a foot long blade at one end and a small orb at the other. Pointing with a gauntleted finger at the offending wendigo, he taps the staff once and barks a word of power before stepping next to the

Filraen places his sword in his glove of storing (free action), draws a staff of the master (move action), uses Reveal Weakness to give the wendigo a -9 penalty to AC and saves (standard action), casts Quickened cloak of dreams (free action), and 5' steps to be adjacent to the wendigo.

The wendigo and anyone else who begins their turn or ends their movement adjacent to Filraen will need to make a DC 28 Will save or fall asleep for one minute.

In case you missed my IM this morning, Morgrym, you can 5' step to be adjacent to the creature but not within cloak of dreams. You were adjacent to the caster when he cast it, and he moved to leave you out of it by stepping 5' diagonal to the left; you would thus be able to 5' diagonally to the right and be adjacent to the wendigo but not Filraen.

Silver Crusade

I didn't miss it, just been a bit caught up. Thanks for the message, anyhow.

With the wendigo dispatched, the ghostly brothers' grappling again takes center stage. However, with the defeat of the otherworldly apparition Karivek's form begins to shift and change. His mouth retracts, moving from inhuman mandible to humanoid jaw, and his claws wither to long fingernails. The fire burning away the stumps of flesh where his legs once were gutters out, and it appears as if Silas is holding his spectral brother up, rather than wrestling for control. The feral growls of hunger become wracking sobs of guilt.

"Shh, brother, it's all right," Silas croons, "It was not all your fault. You did what you had to do..."

As Silas speaks, Karivek Vekker begins to disappear. His form becomes hazy, his body melting away into nothing. Only a few moments later, he is gone. Only Silas remains in the shack.

"I should thank you by taking these secrets to my grave, adventurers, But you have the same fire in your belly as we did. You will not be swayed. Take heed - there is worse than the Claimer on the Pinnacle of Avarice."

With that, the ghost of Silas Vekker goes to his final rest. Where he disappeared, a bundle of balled-up papers falls to the ground, blown into corners by the whispering wind coming through the sundered door.

Meanwhile, Lady Gabrielle makes several leaps, safely following Sheila's fall.

"That was a nasty tumble. Are you all right?" she asks as she helps Sheila up.

Sheila still seems disoriented and shaken by the wendigo's mental assault. Rather than stand, she rolls over and, despite her labored breathing through probably punctured lungs, manages to gasp, "The third belt loop!" With a badly broken arm, she points to her right hip where her collection of emergency potions survived the fall mostly intact.

"Morgrym, over here!" she calls to the rest of the group.

In the meantime, she carefully removes the potion in Sheila's third belt loop. She opens the stopper and places a gloved finger over it, then gives it a quick tilt. The Lady takes a quick taste to be certain of the potion's magic, then gently holds her head while pouring the potion into her mouth.

Sheila coughs violently as the curative magic works through her system. Bones begin to knit back together, joints popping back into place and the worst gashes from the fall beginning to close.

Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3) + 5 = 12

"Thank you, Gabrielle," Sheila says weakly. Clearly the potion fixed the worst of the damage, but not all of the damage. Several bite marks from the wendigo's jaws remain visible on her torso and abdomen, and one arm still appears to be broken. With Gabi's assistance, she is able to stand. "I doubt very much I will be able to climb, though."

Dark Archive

Male Gray Elf Eldritch Knight 20

Filraen pokes at the de-spined wendgio with the bladed end of his staff. "Good. Don't step too close, I can't stop the effect until the magic runs its course. A considerable factor in my choice to avoid this spell under most circumstances."

Heal, take 10: 10 + 5 = 15.

"Dead indeed, and not growing back."

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

"By Torag's beard! I would hope so."

Morgrym steps over to Sheila, giving her one over to make sure she isn't afflicted with more than simple flesh wounds.

Heal: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (6) + 31 = 37

He will also put away his axe, and pull out 2 wands, healing his CHA damage.

Wand of Lesser Restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 2

The second wand was that of Cure Light wounds, and he will begin administering charges of that to Sheila.

Wand of Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wand of Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Wand of Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

If she is full before the three charges are used, I will stop before using them.

Shiela's wounds slowly but surely mend, though they are accompanied by healing magic's usual grinding of bones into place and the wet sound of flesh stitching itself together.

Morgrym - by your estimation (and that you more than doubled the DC 15 Heal check required) you can guess she's about halfway back to a whole person.

Dark Archive

Male Gray Elf Eldritch Knight 20

A wand comes clattering down from above. "Help yourself!" Filraen shouts from the top. "It'll still be a bit before this spell expires."

Filraen drops his wand of infernal healing down the shaft.

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

Morgrym goes to pick up the wand tossed by Filraen.

"Thank, Fil, I'll get Sheila up an' runnin' in no time."

Morgrym glances at the wand, but then inspects more closely. His expression curls into a scowl.

"This sort o' magic ... Sheila, I'll only use this spell on yeh if yeh consent to it. It will transform yer blood to that of a fiend, so that yer body can self heal. You'll radiate evil magic fer a small time while it knits yer wounds, though yer mind will be mostly unaffected."

"I would like to consider myself practical, so I will accept beneficial magic regardless of its..." Sheila pauses to glance upwards, "Disreputable origins."

"I have so far not been subject to this infernal healing," the Lady comments. [b]"Its reputation strikes me as both slow and unsettling."

She looks to Morgrym (and Filraen if he's in earshot). "Did we miss any new discoveries up above?" she asks.

I'm thinking we clean up, see what's on those papers which appeared, then head back to "base."

Dark Archive

Male Gray Elf Eldritch Knight 20

"There are papers up here; the ghost appears to have dropped them somehow," Filraen calls down from the top of the shaft. "The spell has expired, for what it's worth, but I'm running dry of teleportation. Can Sheila fly?"

Not waiting for a response, he moves away from the lip of the ledge to collect the papers. "They look to be more maps of the mountainside. Some kind of dig analysis," he calls back. "There is a key as well, and it looks like it shows veins where the brothers believed precious metals to be located."

There is a long pause before he continues. "There is also a map showing the pass up the mountain to Xin-Shalast itself. It marks off two places; giant spiders and fey."

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

"Sheila, if yeh cannae fly, I'll be happy teh carry yeh. As fer the papers, we should study 'em, and take a sample o' the ore, to prove the miners weren't dishonorable."

I believe that was the issue, that the explorers were excommunicated because most think they reneged (sp?) on a deal for this ore or something like that.

Sovereign Court

N Female Taldan Aristocrat 19 | HP 181/181 | AC 37 T 28 FF 37 | CMD 41+ | F +27 R +35+1 W +24 | Init: +27 | Perc: +41, SM: +47 | MV +5, good hope, shield, blessing of fervor, inspire courage, comm. table, tea set active

"With that blizzard, we will likely have a difficult time finding our way back to the Pinnacle, regardless of whether we move with flight," Lady Gabrielle says. "If it does not pass before we are finished with the ore, might one of you be able to dispel it?"

Dark Archive

Male Gray Elf Eldritch Knight 20

"The maps list several digs on the mountainside," Filraen says as he files down, his spell having finally expired. "I believe it will require several days of effort; effort I'm sure that our giant allies would be willing to assist us with. I can also teleport us back to the Pinnacle given several minutes of preparation, but that will leave me dangerously thin on available resources should we be attacked again. As for the storm, I'm afraid that without magic to control the weather we are at its mercy."

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

Morgrym sighs, taking a moment in the chaos to recenter himself, a monumental task for someone so irritable and vengeful.

"Give me 10 minutes with the Forgemaster, an' I should be able teh turn back the storm, assuming my magic is powerful enough teh break the caster who made the it in the first place."

Sovereign Court

N Female Taldan Aristocrat 19 | HP 181/181 | AC 37 T 28 FF 37 | CMD 41+ | F +27 R +35+1 W +24 | Init: +27 | Perc: +41, SM: +47 | MV +5, good hope, shield, blessing of fervor, inspire courage, comm. table, tea set active

"Well then," the Lady says, with a decisive-looking adjustment of her glasses. "While Morgrym turns back the storm, could you prepare for our return to the Pinnacle, Filraen? We are quite vulnerable in this place as long as that storm is in effect."

"Meanwhile, I will apply as much of this infernal magic as Lady Heidmarch requires."

What is Morgrym's Knowledge (arcana) modifier? I'm wondering what he's preparing, and if it's a variation of dispel magic he should roll a Knowledge (arcana). I think at this point he auto-succeeds, but I don't remember off the top of my head.

I peeked at Morgrym's character sheet, without rolling he'll have a sufficiently high result (DC 27, he's +25 and under heroism) to know there's nothing to dispel from a control weather; he'd need to cast a control weather or control winds of his own and change the weather back to whatever he wanted it to be.

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

Morgrym is preparing Control Weather. Also, those numbers are old. ;)

Old or not, they're sufficient. Unless your skills have gotten worse? Regardless, a control weather will definitely fix the weather now that nobody else is around to control it back.

With the weather magically cleared, the way back up to the Pinnacle of Avarice is open, as is the way further into the range in search of the dig sites of the Vekker brothers.

Where to next?

Sovereign Court

N Female Taldan Aristocrat 19 | HP 181/181 | AC 37 T 28 FF 37 | CMD 41+ | F +27 R +35+1 W +24 | Init: +27 | Perc: +41, SM: +47 | MV +5, good hope, shield, blessing of fervor, inspire courage, comm. table, tea set active

"As we are already setting off on a walk through the snow, I imagine that checking on the Vekker Brothers' findings along the way would take little extra time," the Lady suggests. "I am also curious about what lies in this mountain we have discovered."

Lady Gabrielle is thinking that we check on the dig sites then head back to the Pinnacle. How rich are these deposits, anyways?

The deposits will require some excavation, but a professional miner, an appraiser of metals, or an expert on the natural world might know more about the composition of the rock with some examination - you could attempt an estimate on your way back to the Pinnacle or you could spend several days performing an excavation at one of the sites.

Sovereign Court

N Female Taldan Aristocrat 19 | HP 181/181 | AC 37 T 28 FF 37 | CMD 41+ | F +27 R +35+1 W +24 | Init: +27 | Perc: +41, SM: +47 | MV +5, good hope, shield, blessing of fervor, inspire courage, comm. table, tea set active

"A simple estimate will do for today," the Lady comments when the question is brought up. "We should determine whether these deposits are worth extracting later."

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

"I propose this: We've nae slept in a long time, an' I think we could use a bit o' rest. We can go to mah' little restin' spot. Comfortable beds, roarin' fires, an' a forge ... ahem. Best part is, yeh don't age there, and time that passes there, doesn't pass here, so yeh can sleep sound knowin' whatever great perils are here now will be just the same when yeh get back, an' not worse.

In the mornin' we can find out more about the ores that the Vekkars were up here for. How's that sound?"

Dark Archive

Male Gray Elf Eldritch Knight 20

"We could use magic to shorten our rest, as well, and summon or bind outsiders to speed up the excavation process. Earth elementals or shaitans. Or others? Xill, maybe?"

Sovereign Court

N Female Taldan Aristocrat 19 | HP 181/181 | AC 37 T 28 FF 37 | CMD 41+ | F +27 R +35+1 W +24 | Init: +27 | Perc: +41, SM: +47 | MV +5, good hope, shield, blessing of fervor, inspire courage, comm. table, tea set active

"The demiplane option does sound lovely," the Lady replies, seeming quite intrigued. "I wonder, how might one go about creating one of these personal sanctuaries? If it is solely in the domain of priests, would you be amenable to a sort-of commission, Morgrym?" she asks.

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

So at this point, I think we'll rest, mostly because we can't agree on when the last time we rested is, so for the sake of clarity, we'll rest. Then we will summon whatever outsiders we need to help us out with the excavation, since Morg likes that plan ;) .

"Gabi, to create a place as I have, yeh have to be among the most powerful o' casters, but the magic fer it comes in stages."

He explains what comes out to be the greater version of this.

"Unfortunately, the overgods of Golarion have made it so that I cannae create it permanently."

Welllllll... are we still under strict PFS rules?

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

I try to play it that way, otherwise, I would've gotten a few permanency'd spells.

Yeaaaah, Lady Gabrielle wants a permanent timeless demiplane. She's got the money. Considering how much time she could get back, it's a steal!

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

If you are willing to pay for it, Morg will set it up for you.

Dark Archive

Male Gray Elf Eldritch Knight 20

Yeah, I've tried to hew to the PFS rules for item/spell access - otherwise, as Morgrym said, I'd have some permanent spells (and +5 inherent bonuses to my stats... thanks wish!).

"Hmm, how many elementals do you think will be necessary? With a planar binding, I can summon three earth elementals to do most of the actual investigation. A second casting would net us a xorn to burrow an actual tunnel for us. Between the two of us we should be able to summon a serviceable burrowing work crew."

"Alternatively, we could transform ourselves. However, I prefer to let others do the heavy lifting."

Silver Crusade

Male Dwarf Warpriest of Torag 19

"Three ought teh be fine."

Dark Archive

Male Gray Elf Eldritch Knight 20

Before resting, Filraen will spend an hour filling his empty 6th level spell slot with planar binding, his empty 7th level spell slot with magic circle against evil, and fill his empty 8th level spell slot with greater planar binding.

He will then cast magic circle against evil twice, once via limited wish using blood money.

Blood Money damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 plus 2 Strength damage.

He will cast a second limited wish using blood money again to enchant one trap with dimensional anchor.

Blood Money damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6 plus 2 Strength damage.

He will then use one trap to cast planar binding to summon three medium earth elementals, followed by casting Persistent greater planar binding, applying the Persistent spell feat with two charges from his Staff of the Master to summon a noble shaitan as a supervisor and appraiser.

"Well... isn't that interesting. The elementals have resisted my command. We shall have to wait until tomorrow to try again with them."

Filraen turns to the his other compelled ally and begins pacing around the binding circle. "Noble shaitan, what do you prefer to be called? I should know the name of a business partner." As he speaks, Filraen drags his foot through the shaitan's binding circle, breaking the magic that held it within.

After sleeping on it, for sticking with PFS rules I figure anything that affects our stat blocks (like wishes for stats) should probably stay off limits. However, we're not the only ones engaged in world-building with things that aren't strictly PFS legal. Stuff that isn't reflected in our stats is the kind of world-building PCs of our level should be expecting to do.

"You may call me Pasha Jalaal al-Shami," the djinni answers. "And I should know the size of this deposit you would have me appraise, though I see it is big enough for the stonechild to pay attention," he continues, gesturing towards Morgrym. The shaitan sinks into the ground, concealing himself below his thighs as he speaks, now that he is free of the circle's imprisonment.

Nothing that affects our stats? I can get behind that.

Lady Gabrielle sits comfortably on one of Morgrym's chairs by a warm fire, considering just which goal she would like to pursue next.

"Morgrym, Filraen, might I ask the two of you something?" she asks, followed by a pause long enough to be polite but too short for an answer. "Do we possess the ability to transport, feed, and house the number of laborers required to perform this excavation?" she then asks, gently fanning her neck out of habit.

Dark Archive

Male Gray Elf Eldritch Knight 20

"The deposit's size is unknown," Filraen explains to the shaitan, "You and our elemental labor force will need to estimate the size and value of the deposits in the boreholes. If necessary, the elementals can excavate a portion of the deposit for further examination." Retrieving the Vekkers' map, Filraen spreads it on a table. "The deposits are marked on this map."

Turning to his companions, Filraen inquires, "Do we plan to? I believe we wanted to clear the good name of the Vekkers and withdraw a sample of the deposits, not strip mine the mountain. The climate makes using humanoid labor prohibitive."

"Assuming the deposits are sizeable, a properly-planning mining operation would be of benefit to a great many parties," the Lady explains, as she adjusts her glasses. "The Vekkar Brothers' descendants will be uplifted by their share, and a group of laborers will have a lucrative opportunity presented to them. I do not sense any reason not to explore this option."

The djinni laughs. "Now as ever, it is the woman who has plans within plans. I assume the wealth will be extracted, whether by mortal labor or by our enjoyment. The question is who will take it in the end."
