I think Lady Gabrielle has found her medium-term target: The Evil-Doing Lumber Consortium!

This one sounds like a job for Lady Gabrielle and Morgrym. They've only got 400 security guards on their payroll; the two of them can totally take 'em. Or maybe this is a job for low-level adventurers recruited by her.

One step at a time!If we want to continue a home campaign with these PCs, we absolutely can do that. Lets wrap up the hanging threads from the Road to 20 first though.

True, that's something for some other time. What's important is that it means that Lady Gabrielle likely won't get overly ambitious with, say, quietly making Absalom in the Empire's vassal state or anything. For the time being.

As for hanging threads, let's see what Morgrym has in mind for the Tapestry, as Lady Gabrielle's wishes will likely align with his. Or they won't, and she'll have to convince Morgrym of a different path.

You don't have to handle all of it yourself; I'm a fully-functional GM most of the time. Dwarves of Golarion and the wiki are both good sources on the dwarves. I'm not sure about any major dwarf stuff in the AP line, but Halls of Dwarven Lore and The Secrets Stones Keep also had some dwarf-related information in the Adventure Background section.

Ben - when you get the chance, can you expand on what you're looking to accomplish with the Tapestry? I'm guessing that you want to put the dwarven spirits to rest and that you're hoping to destroy the artifact that Shemis was using in Skyreach, but its not nearly so clear about the Tapestry.

I guess that's the next hilarious point. I don't know. Holding on to it is selfish, given the benefits it could bring, but who can we trust? I don't know that there is anyone. The Knights of Ozem? Definitely not the PFS, or Torch.

I'm beginning to think that we have to deal with the Ten first. It could bring more options for the tapestry, also, Morg is more interested in dealing with that first, since in his mind, there is a much more clear solution that's easy to come to.

There are lost Dwarf spirits on the mountain? Huh. Must've forgotten. Oh well, I'll RP accordingly. Also, I need to do a bit of reading if I'm to understand how Dwarf societ / crime and punishment work.

"So lads, abowt the poor Dwarves that got exiled, and the others with their spirits lost. I don' think that's all that hard. Perhaps a miracle? That would be the simplest way." Morgrym thinks for a moment.

Yeah, there are dead dwarves on the mountain; an expedition from Janderhoff to the, "City of Gold," that we encountered some of the remnants of. They had apparently turned to cannibalism.

The Clockwork GM says: Morgrym's Knowledge (religion) check tells him that, depending on what held the spirits on the plane, there are different methods of releasing them. You would need to know exactly what kind of undead or curse they are. That said, miracle would just deal with the vast majority of curses. and simply killing the undead would deal with the rest. Its all a matter of what is holding the dwarves on Golarion instead of sending them to their rest.

Returning from his efforts on the mountainside, Filraen muses on Morgrym's question. "We heard a wendigo on the mountain; could the dwarves have fallen victim to that creature?"

"That is a likely conclusion," the Lady adds.

"As for the Tapestry, there is also the matter of the Abyssal jungle now inside of it. Fortunately, we simply need to use the Abysium Codex to remake the Tapestry as we wish."

I believe Filraen had dominated and sent a Rune Giant to seek it out. Do we want to have an encounter with the mountain's Wendigo on the thread here?

Dark Archive

I had sent my pet Rune Giant out after the wendigo. If they managed to find it, and they're not great at the search-y thing, it'd be a coin toss between the two parties; the wendigo would pretty quickly dispatch everyone but the rune giant. Ben, its really up to you; if it wanted to, its totally possible for the wendigo to avoid the giants.

Filraen nods. "Of course! Ignoring that removing the wendigo would facilitate my eventual occupancy of the Pinnacle, the dwarves do not deserve their fate and I would be a poor friend if I refused."

Sighing and leaning heavily on his staff, the elf adds, "But first, perhaps, we rest? Between our battle with Karzoug and my efforts at conscripting his former servants, I have no resources left."

"It has been a long day," the Lady agrees. "I will make sure the entrance to the Pinnacle is secured. Lady Heidmarch, would you care to join me? There are several murals and objects which I believe you would appreciate."

Lady Gabrielle is up for wendigo-hunting, and is okay with resting as well. She'll try to bond with Sheila a bit if she can.

Sheila looks downright exhausted, but she stands and nods nonetheless. "Yes, it would be wise that we examine the fortifications. However, I would rather wait until after the mountain is secured before we begin examining any of the relics contained herein."

Lady Gabrielle shows Sheila the chambers of the lamia priestesses. They are lavishly decorated with plenty of furs from exotic animals, majestic furniture lined with gems, a magically-lit fireplace, and a wall-sized painting of the city and people of Xin-Shalast at its height, with their ruler Karzoug looking down on them from atop the mountain.

"Politics?" Sheila snorts derisively, "Never. The Society and my Venture-Captaincy provide me with more politics than I desire. Once we return to Magnimar I expect I will resume my duties to the Society, aiding in the expeditions of those who can still operate in the field without creaking knees and aching bones." Pausing, she adds, "Once I rebuild my manor, that is."

After a moment of silence, Sheila frowns. "Lady Gabrielle, we should be securing the tower and returning to the group rather than gossiping like Thuvian girls. I may not be a field agent any longer, but I do remember that splitting up the group is dangerous."

Smiling, Filraen nods. "Aye," he announces, mimicking Morgrym's distinctive accent, "After we rest we'll help those dwarves' souls find theirs." With a word and a gesture, he conjures a rope trick and pulls himself up the rope.

In a non-phone response to your inquiry, I'm shooting from the hip. We can avoid combat if we want. Even if we do, that's OOC knowledge I would try to separate from Filraen's IC speech. Regardless of what we decide, he thinks combat is inevitable and acts accordingly.

As for fighting a wendigo, those dwarves did some awful stuff on the slopes of Mhar Massif. Even if the wendigo turns out to be a snipe hunt, it could still lead back to whatever is holding the dwarves' spirits here.

The group sets out after resting, in search of the wendigo.

It's snowing pretty heavily today on the mountain. With visibility lessened, all the party has to work with is the wendigo's howl, which picks up as soon as the group descends from the Spires themselves and towards the city.

The howling is very faint at first, detectable by trained ears such as the group's, but as the party descends, the howl seems to be coming from a particular direction, away from the city.

The Lady pushes herself onto the giant and incredibly soft couch, sitting in a sea of exotic fur with her legs folded beside her and barely visible under her skirt.

"Filraen has this place secured by now," she replies, addressing her concern. "And as for Thuvian girls, it would be lovely to be able to relax, if even for an hour, knowing that others have built a system which regularly attracts exorbitant amounts of wealth into my country, and that I had nothing at all to worry about."

She lets out a gentle sigh, considering that point for a moment. "I know of a variety of ioun stone which preserves the body. They have the appearance of tiny grey spheres. We might find a few in the city, although I am certain that the Society possesses a cache of them. I am sure your husband would be quite appreciative." Her eyes offer the Venture-Captain a seat on the gigantic couch.

Sheila remains standing. With a wry look she declares, "My husband is not so hollow as to see only my body."

Pacing around the room, she continues. "The perception of Thuvia as holding vast wealth is nonsense. The sun orchid elixir does bring in a great deal of wealth to the nation, but it is the land's only income. It has no natural resources other than the elixir, and does not sit on valuable trade routes or traffic in such disreputable goods as slaves or worse. A Thuvian enjoys wealth only once every five years, unless he is willing to uproot himself as a nomad every season."

Sheila replies, "The people of Thuvia are forced to live in a blasted land beset by the divs of Ahriman and rendered barren by time. "My home is built on a stronger foundation than Thuvia; my father's native land survives while Varisia thrives, and Heidmarch Manor will as well." Speaking of her home clearly lifts Sheila's spirits. Checking in with the rune giant reveals that his search for the wendigo was fruitless. The thing just didn't show itself yesterday beyond a few hours of omnipresent howling during the night, and by nature, wendigos aren't really big on leaving tracks.

"It seems that these dwarven brothers were the first to find it, and they had to happen upon it."

”I did not,” Sheila replies, “I have read that Xin-Shalast’s elevation required magic to sustain it; we should be well above the ‘death zone’ elevation. Whatever magic sustains it here may be part of the reason; perhaps Karzoug carved out a small demiplane from the fabric of the Prime,” She pauses to consider her response, then continues, ”If I had to venture a guess, though, the presence of these Denizens of Leng leads me to believe they have a strong influence in its disappearance.” Turning to regard Filraen, she asks, ”You have studied magic in detail; what do you know about Leng?”

As if by reflex, Filraen launches into a professorial diatribe. ”Leng is not a plane in itself; it is a pocket dimension,” he begins, ”In fact, its very existence is debated among scholars. We do know that the realm is finite, that it is ruled by a strange creature garbed in yellow who displays phenomenal powers akin to those of mortal priests, and that the ancient Thassilonian wizards were able to conjure creatures from the dimension as I summon devils.” At the conclusion, he looks around the group as if surprised that his companions are still listening.

Lady Gabrielle is definitely listening, and is for the most part able to follow along with the concepts behind Filraen's lecture. "If Leng itself could hide so effectively, and the Thassilonians both knew of and drew from it, then that machine from Leng is our most likely explanation," she relates. "So, Filraen, are you planning to research Leng yourself, or do you have a different plan in mind?"
