Shanya |
I'm here. Just got distracted by my other campaigns, is all.
I'll get a post up shortly.
Lana Shahakh |
Spirit Boost... it's a Life Oracle revelation. Only 1 point per level for 1 round per level, but in cases like this it can be nifty.
Note that by RAW it doesn't apply to channeling, but our kind and benevolent DM ruled that it can for this game.
DM Ranginui |
I know time dilutes efficacy of clues in this game, but there are a few that have been proffered to assist you in figuring out the items you're looking for (some more obscure than others).
Kalt Ìsson |
Okay, having spent a moment going through the thread, here are a couple of links that I think provide the clues Rango mentions (Tik had very cleverly marked both of these posts as favorites).
So we have a stuffed two-headed eagle, an iron spur and a drinking horn, as well as an elephant tusk, a small hand mirror and a bearskin rug, and they form a rebus of some sort.
Having done the archival research, I'll leave someone else to solve the puzzle.
Tiknesr Th'th'th'th'slifp |
Re puzzle: my impression is we don't have enough data to solve it...but we should all reread those links (thanks for reposting!) to make sure they're in our minds.
Separately: I got slammed at work writing this week (which makes it hard to keep up on games) and have been prepping for a camping trip (which makes it hard to post at night). I might still get a post in before I leave...but it's possible I don't until Sunday. If I don't, please feel free to bot me.
I should be back in full force next week.
DM Ranginui |
Specifically, the clues were grouped, and you are looking for two keys:
First set:
First, they take a stuffed two-headed eagle from a shelf, then place an iron spur and a drinking horn beside it.
I have been remiss in mentioning this important fact, but the base which you are operating at is (in Triaxian and Draconic) "Spurhorn". Cough *rebus* cough.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Second set:
Next, they take an elephant tusk and a small hand mirror and drop them atop a bearskin rug. The ravens then disappear, repeating their cryptic phrase a final time.

Hey gang, sorry to be incommunicado for so long--it's been a busy stretch for me.
I'm still excited though and hoping to kick back into gear here.
Ranginui, thanks for the passphrase clue. That totally went over my head...but it was fun to RP that it went over Tik's head too, and got caught by Aroden.
gyrfalcon |
I think it makes sense for one of us with Diplomacy (or possibly Bluff?) to answer Nevra.
Anyone up for it? My bias is (in part) to try to ask for info on the 2-headed eagle that was referenced in the passphrase...but I know there are other tacks to take as well.
(Kalt, it looks like you've got something to explore or share as well!)
Kalt Ìsson |
Sorry, yes. I've had the campaign open in a tab all day today meaning to post, and haven't gotten to it yet.
Here goes!
Oh, and I agree, let's ask about the eagle. I'm not sure what we're supposed to be doing in relation to setting up the defenses of the place, but I can follow clues when they're fairly clearly pointed out by a kindly DM.
Kalt Ìsson |
I'll be travelling Aug 20-25, posting will likely be limited during that time.
DM Ranginui |
I apologize, I forgot to mention that I'm on another work trip for the past week, and will be for another. The distractions have limited my posting rather severely.
Avora Teremocles |
Just a heads-up. I am going to be at a con tomorrow through Monday. Please bot me as necessary.
Kalt Ìsson |
I will be travelling for work Oct 3-12. I still expect to be able to post some, but likely with less frequency.
Shanya |
This is going out to all the games I'm either playing in or GMing:
I'll be away at a local convention from Nov. 4th to the 6th. As such, I won't be posting on those days.
Tiknesr Th'th'th'th'slifp |
Hi Red! Good to meet you and thanks for volunteering to take us forward. Let us know if you have any questions.
I hope life is OK for Ranginui. If anyone's in touch with him, send him my (presumably our) thanks for the game and good wishes.
And for everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving, I hope you had a good one.

I have the following spells prepped:
Witch Spells Prepared (CL 10th; concentration +17):
5th (3/day)—shadow evocation (DC 22), feeblemind (DC 22), magic jar (DC 22)
4th (4/day)—black tentacles (x2), shadow conjuration (DC 21), confusion (DC 21)
3rd (5/day)—sleet storm (x2), stinking cloud (x3) (DC 20)
2nd (6/day)—false life (x2), web (DC 19), blindness/deafness (DC 19), vomit swarm (x2)
1st (6/day)—mage armor (x2), enlarge person, obscuring mist, delay disease, mount
0 (at will)—stabilize, detect poison, read magic, dancing lights
Perhaps when they first get to be 200' away--which might be now, I'm not sure?--I Magic Jar over there. I might get lucky and end up in a hydra, but even if I don't, I end up in someone who's as high HD as the hydras.
Then I cast Confusion to try to create mayhem.
Then I either use my high HD body to start attacking the hydras, or else I use spells like tentacles, stinking cloud, and sleet storm to slow'm.
What do you think? Any other suggestions? I don't have a great way to get y'all there, except perhaps with Shadow Conjuration...but also this seems like more of a ranged fight because there's an enormous horde out there that would likely overwhelm us.
DM, if you would:
- how far away are the foes now?
- how many heads are the hydras?
- how much do I know about them, with the following roll: K.Arcana: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (15) + 19 = 34
gyrfalcon |
Ahhhh, oh well, I'd asked earlier to hear as soon as they were half that distance away, but let's roll with it.
Questions: defenses, offences, weak saves, something else?
And this round I jar into one of the highest HD things in the vicinity of the hydras. Maybe I'll get lucky. If not, I'll start casting out there.
... Unless someone has a different idea/request?
Kalt Ìsson |
Red - Are the towers covered with swarming Triaxians? If we could get out to them somehow, could we work to disable them without having to fight the whole horde?
Tik - I'm reasonably effective at ranged combat, I don't believe that Sven has much to offer in that regard, so unless our other casters can really rain down the hurt on the hydras from a distance, we may have a hard time pulling this off as a ranged fight. But we can try, and go mano a mano if we have to, I suppose.

Posting this in all my games:
Some of you may or may not be aware, but my wife has glaucoma which has already claimed the sight in her right eye and is eating away at the vision in her left. To further complicate matters, she had a cataract removed from her left eye, but during the operation, there was some minor temporary damage to the optic nerve. Long story short, it should heal in two to three months, but until then, I am her official reader. She can make out blurred images of people and if they speak, she is pretty good at recognizing voices, but she can't read anything.
Further, I am the only one of us who drives, since her vision started getting worse last year, so I have to take her to any and all doctor's appointments. About once every two weeks, she has to go to Tulane in New Orleans, about 90 miles away (and that's not to mention local appointments, errands, shopping trips, etc.). So if I seem slow to respond or post, please bear with me. If I am a player, bot me as needed. If I am your GM, rest assured that I have not forgotten you. I may just have had a hella busy day.
Kalt Ìsson |
Sorry to hear it, Avora. Wishing you and your wife the best as you deal with these challenges.
Kalt Ìsson |
Since we all agreed we were moving back towards Lana and Tik, but many of us had not moved our tokens on the map, I just repositioned us. If you don't like the spot I put you in, move to a better one.
I wasn't sure if Avora's dino was still around, and I didn't delete the red Triaxian, since Tik's retcon left me a bit unsure about his fate also. I just left them both over where the fight with them happened, since I didn't know if they should still be on the map.
Kalt Ìsson |
I'm confused again. Did someone move all the token back where they were, after I moved them on Friday? We should all be near each other, near the two blue drakes on the right side of the map.
Kalt Ìsson |
Okay, I didn't understand there was a third drake. We all said we were moving closer together, but only some of us actually moved tokens on the map.
Not sure which matters more, what we said or whether we manipulated the map.
Kalt Ìsson |
I'll be taking a break with the family Dec 18-22. I should have time to post, but I hear the internet is intermittent where we'll be. Will post as I'm able.
Avora Teremocles |
Just so everyone is aware; convention season is upon us again! I serve as the Game Operations Director (that is, the Director of the Game Room) at CoastCon, a local convention in 1.5 months, and this takes up a lot of my already pressed time. So if I am slow to update or respond, please bear with me and bot me as needed.
Kalt Ìsson |
I will be away at a con Friday PM until Monday, and posting will probably not happen. Then, over the next few weeks, I will be on some extensive work trips, which wrap up on March 19. I should still be able to post most days, but my schedule will be a bit erratic.
Avora Teremocles |
We're one week out from the convention. As such, my time is getting crunched pretty badly. I'll try to check in as much as possible until Wednesday, after that, don't expect to hear from me until Monday. Please bot me as necessary. If I'm running your game, I ask for your patience. We will continue!
Kalt Ìsson |
I’ll be taking off tomorrow for a week of vacation and my internet access will be a bit unpredictable. I’ll make every effort to post, but bot me as necessary to move things along.
Kalt Ìsson |
Red - can you change the permissions on the map so we can see it?
