Same. I'm looking forward to a great game guys.

If there's anything else you'd like my to build a spreadsheet for Mez, just ask. Stuff I end up doing for my other games includes loot/loot distribution, maps, and on occasion an almanac for keeping track of important NPCs.

Hello, all! Very glad to be here with you.

Sven - I've got a nice treasure spreadsheet I use in a number of my games too. We should compare notes. Mine looks like this.

I like it. It's very similar to the one I use.

Maz, could you open the gameplay thread when you have a minute? It's a lot easier to track a game after you've posted in its gameplay thread.

Blue Leader - standing by.... oh sorry wrong callsign. Bugsby here, saying 'Wehadababyitsaboy!' and other such nonsense in one breath. I'm excited to play with you all.

I'll also volunteer for Map creation, maintenance, spreadsheets and whatever else expedites our GM's more important creative and posting processes. :)

Well, since it seems a few of you have volunteered for map assistance. I can make the map, and upload it to Google Docs, I'm just having a hard time making tokens for your images to put upon it. Any advice?

I heartily recommend TokenTool. It's easy to use, free, and does a great job of creating tokens perfect for VTT play.

I tried that, and it told me to drag an image onto the pane, but every image I dragged wouldn't transfer.

It won't drag directly from Google Images, but if you click on the image and drag from the display box, it should work. I use it all the time and seldom have a problem.

It does take a little getting used to, but 2 things help:

Once you've posted in the gameplay thread, the alias you posted with will be at the top of the alias drop-down list for that game, so it's quick to pick the right one.

And always preview your post, so you know if the right alias appears. If you post with the wrong alias, that wrong alias will be listed as one of the characters in the game forevermore (or until the GM deletes it, but I've never run a PbP here, so I can't tell you how that works).

Yeah, the difference really struck me when I read Sven's description, I just had to play on it in my post. Not exactly Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, as they're both big, strong types in their ways, but that duo might not be a bad reference to look to for the relationship.

I agree, should be fun. Keen and observant is definitely what I had in mind for him, and I think personable and charming will be a nice counterpoint to that.

In case it becomes a question:

I, as a player, do not read any spoilers that are not a) addressed to me, b) addressed to the group as a whole, or c) in a language that Avora speaks. For me, this both increases the immersion factor and makes the game more exciting. Likewise, if we should break the cardinal rule of adventuring and *gasp* split the party, I will not follow the exploits of the other group, so expect there to be questions when we are reunited. ;)

Avora I had to read your post twice to make sure I understood. :) I must say my hat is off to your level of immersion. Honestly very cool. I will try and do everything Avora just said, with a varying degree of success. But I am always very careful to play my character with what he knows IC, not what I know OOC. :)

Oh and though it's probably moot, I use Windows Snipping tool to copy the profile pics and then paste them into the google Draw map, then resize as needed. It's usually pretty quick and easy, just in case you still needed a method. :)

You're right on the money Kalt. If you do (heaven forbid) happen to post with the wrong alias you can still edit that post within an hour to switch to the right alias. That doesn't help with the wrong alias being added to the character tab until the GM deletes it, but it does allow a quick fix of an alias in game.

It's a hilarious telephone/long distance commercial, but I don't remember from what year. A dad is calling his parents (or some family) with a collect call and that's the 'name' he uses when the voice asks who the call is from so his parents get the news and no one actually has to be charged for the collect call.

Obviously I enjoyed the commercial. :)

Sven, when you posted that question it was about 12:30 AM for me (MST). What time zone are you in?

I am East coast US, so after about 10:30-11 PM I'm usually done for the night. I'm usually up by 6 am and can post throughout the day, though some major updates will require me to wait till I get home from work, they don't seem to like me pulling out a game book and spending 20 minutes with it when I should be making them money.

I was wondering about our Katapeshi friend as well.

GM Mez - On an unrelated note - I've never played the Guide archetype before, and there's something I find a little puzzling. They give up the Hunter's Bond class feature (so no animal companion), but they keep Wild Empathy. These two have always seem to me to be related, as they both have to do with a connection with animals. I've got an Urban Ranger in a Korvosa game who was able to swap Wild Empathy for the Cosmopolitan feat, as it fit so much better with being a city kid. I'm wondering if you'd consider something like that? Not Cosmopolitan, which wouldn't make sense here, but a trait or feat that fits with his background? I haven't really looked into it, but was thinking something to play up the fey connection, or something along those lines.

If you're open to it, I'll look around and propose a couple of things that I think might fit. And if you'd rather I leave things as is, I'll use the Wild Empathy on crazy little Bugsby.

Note: I'm finding Bugsby quite entertaining, lest my comment by misconstrued.

Fey Foundling might be a good fit.

Wild Empathy is the diplomacy check for animals, and while a lot of times it's used with animal companions, it could work for any animal, including magical ones. I think keeping it fits nicely with Kalt's background. He makes friends with the animals, it's just that none feel like following him wherever he goes.

That was my first thought also, but wanted to ponder it a bit. But it does fit well, and the distaste for iron would add a fun RP aspect, even if the trait does allow me to wield cold iron weapons.

So you'd prefer I leave it as is, then? To be honest, I've never found Wild Empathy to be that useful, but I may not have made a point of using it when I should have. But it does fit with the Kalt's extensive time in the wilds. His Cha isn't good, though, so it's often not going to work very well - he'll have to overcome a -1 Cha bonus to beat a DC15 (he does get to add his level).

Let me know what you think - thank ya.

I’ve seen wild empathy be used to great effect, many a times in my days of playing 3.5 and Pathfinder.

You also have to keep in mind that the DC for using Wild Empathy is modified by the target’s charisma modifier as well. So attempting to calm an unhappy black bear is actually DC 13 (because they have a cha of 6). That means Kalt needs to roll a 12 to succeed which isn’t too bad at all to overcome a potential CR 3 creature.

Decide what it is you'd like to try and swap it for, and then I'll decide, but Wild Empathy is actually pretty good if you remember/try to use it.

Wild empathy rules; it's one of the reasons I chose to play a druid. I love being able to befriend (or at least, make less hostile) the animals.

I looked at the math again and came up with a different answer. Per Wild Empathy, a wild animal usually starts at Unfriendly, which is a DC 20. The bear's Cha makes it an 18. Kalt adds +1 for his level and -1 for his Cha, for a net zero bonus. So he needs to roll an 18 at 1st level, and would need to get to 9th level to have a 50% chance of it working on a wild animal.

Does that sound correct?

Yes, Kalt's math looks correct.

Based on appearances it’s obvious to Sven that Lachna is some kind of warrior.

What should he assume about Avora? Her description doesn’t mention any specific weapons or armor. Would it be safe for him to assume she’s some kind of priestess?

GM - After pondering and researching the question of replacing Wild Empathy, the two feats I came up with that seemed like they'd fit well with Kalt's background are Fey Foundling or Tribal Scars, with the thinking that when he left Icemark he headed east and spent some time in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords, with the Night Hunt, as it fits so well with who he is and what he does. I didn't really find any traits that were a great fit with his story that I either didn't already have or weren't duplicative mechanically.

If you're good with me swapping Wild Empathy with one of these, great. If not, I may opt to ditch Power Attack and Cleave, as mechanical, bland feats, and pick up one or both of these more flavorful ones anyway. Hope that works for you.

Sorry to keep building my PC after we've started - it won't last much longer.

Edit: just noticed that Sven has the Tribal Scars feat also, associated with the Bear clan I believe. Having Kalt have a different set of Tribal Scars would add another way they can play off each other - the big hulking strong bear vs the sneaky hunter in darkness.

Avora doesn't openly display what she is. At the moment, she does not wear her armor or carry her weapon (she's in her home town, which is relatively safe), so your most probable assumption is that she is a wizard or sorceress (or perhaps a monk). When we actually get to adventuring, it will become more apparent that she is either a druid (leather armor and spear) or a light-armor specialist of some kind. But for now, your assumption would most likely be an arcane caster or perhaps even a commoner.
