Toran, having regained a considerable amount of strength, runs back out of the forest towards the trolls that surround their hag foes. As he does so, he blasts a searing spear of light at the nearest hag.

He'll cast Spear of Purity, and I believe that they get a DC 17 will save for half.

One attack hits for 8 damage. She tries to cast though the pain.

Toran hits the sea hag with his Spear of Purity. It looks fairly hurt.


One other thing you know about blood hags. When one is in there fiery form (like this one is) they can end it by detonating dealing 8d6 points of fire damage (Reflex DC 18 for half) to everything within 30 ft. arn't you glad you remembered that?

Elhedril comes back and readies an action to cast magic missiles if the blood hag tries anything.

Not sure if it would disrupt her detonating power, but she will try in any case

If it's an extraordinary or supernatural ability, it won't. If it's spell-like ability however, it will come down to a concentration check.

Unlike Elhedril, Riva doesn't wait, blasting at the blood hag with her own potent magic missile spell from the cover of the trees.

Magic Missile: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 2) + 4 = 13

She then slides back another 35 feet into the forest (now 160 feet away from the blood hag), stopping in a high tree, attempting to stay hidden while keeping a clear line of sight to her enemies.

Stealth Checl: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33; If she tries to spot Riva, don't forget the range penalty to the hag's Perception check.

@Mallichatti it's a good thing I think the idea of fumbles for attack rolls is stupid.

@Toran Sorry missed the will save and the blindness effect although I don't think it would have stopped her from detonating

The tree does something and the small fires in the forrest from the detonation explode into smoke.

Riva spellcraft: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31

Riva recognizes it as pyrotechnics

The blood hag says "sleep I will torment you later"

Mallichatti make a DC 17 will save or go to sleep. Riva does not see this spell because of the smoke.

Riva focuses on extending some of her powers before half running half teleporting back towards the battle, more confident now after having heard the blood hag's death rattle.

On her turn, Riva drops a 3rd-level spell slot with her consume spells class feature to gain back 3 points of her arcane reservoir. She then uses one of those points to dimensional slide 60 feet towards the clearing.

Finally, she moves an additional 25 feet into heavy brush and crouches down to conceal herself from view. (She is now 75 feet West from the blood hag's body.)

Stealth check: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31

"So she wants to hide in a tree does she? Let's see how well it protects her from trees' bane!"

Riva gets ready to switch out heroism for lightning bolt.

Wouldn't I have to within 20 feet to be inside the smoke, seeing as the smoke version of pyrotechnics only has a 20-foot radius? Not seeing how I'd be in it from 75 feet away. Which grid intersection is the point of origin again? I'll place it on the map.


My mistake thought you were closer. I guess the smoke does not get in your way then.

A +2 Furious courageous adamantine Greataxe along the blade is inscribed with bold letters BadAxe Looking closer you think there might be a trace of intelligence in it, but you aren’t sure. If it is Intelligent then the intelligence is sleeping.

DC 20 knowledge history:

The BadAxe’s were a clan of incredibly fearsome warriors. They were wiped out 100 years ago when they bite off more then they could chew. Turns out the prowess of 10 men is not enough when you are outnumbered 20 to 1.

Her fingertips still sparking from the power of an electrical build up, Riva quickly dismisses the magic with an approving nod toward her allies.

Alas, I will have to wait for another time before trying out my new spells.

Once the area is cleared of obvious threats, Riva brings in her entourage to better keep watch over the area and to help keep the troll skeletons from reconstructing themselves.

Riva takes 10 on her knowledge (history) check, getting 24, and informs the party of the ax's past.

She then casts identify and proceeds to identify the many magical items the hags had been hoarding in their grove.

Taking a 10 on her Spellcraft checks gets her a total of 39, enough to automatically succeed at everything listed in the above post--unless something happens to possess a high caster level AND be cursed.

Sensing the presence within the axe, Riva takes great care not to make skin contact with it, as a precaution.

"I am most glad to see that ended. Claim what you will, you've more than earned it, but the remainder goes to me. I suspect I may be able to recycle some of it into something far more useful to us. Except for the ax, I suspect most of it is safe. The ax will require further study."
