Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8

Could you please give a complete synopsis of events so far as you see it? I think that's the only way we're going to get back on track at this point.

For some reason Riva didn't act the first turn. I guess you could say you held your action and did the escape artist check before the plants turn. In which case it did not try and bite down.

Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8

So are we in round 2 or 3 then? Whose turn is it now? EDIT: Whatever. Riva escaped, shouted a lot, tumbled away and cast shield. Place those in the rounds however it makes sense to you. I'm only getting more confused.

How about if you all run away I'll just do one opportunity attack and you get away.

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

That sounds like a pretty good deal, I'd rather not fight this thing if I don't have to.

Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8

I'm down for that. It's clearly more than we can handle.

When you run away a vine lashes Toran.

attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

And misses miserably :).
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

So you have gotten away they plant did not follow you. What now?

Note:You are going to have to take care of that plant in order to clear the hex.

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

Lets continue to explore, and come back to the plant when we've prepared to deal with that kind of threat(fire spells, ranged weapons, etc.)

F HP: 33/33, AC 17/12/15, Saves: +2/+3/+3, Init +3, Per: -1(+7 Eidolon)
Ragathiel:
HP:32/32, AC: 21/12/17, Saves: +5/+3/+4, DR3/Evil
Skills:
Diplomacy +12, Knowledge (Planes) +5, Linguistics +4, Use Magic Device +9

Maer had top initiative and it looked like most everyone had gone. I can only post at certain times of day due to work so listed her second set of actions as Round 2 in bold at the top of her post for the grease :P Don't skim! Also, there is no action to dismiss the eidolon. It goes away automatically if her spell-like ability is used (only master summoners can have eidolon + summon out at the same time).

"Well that was not a good showing."

Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8

Recomposed, Riva looks at Maermana grimly, "Let's just move on, shall we?"

I say we explore the rest of the hex and then move on to the next. Is there anything else left here to find, GM? If not, we move on to I37 (The "Ka" in Kamelands.)

Before departing the area entirely, however, Riva looks back at the monster in the distance (over 120 feet away) and, out of sheer curiosity, casts blindness upon it.

Using a point from my arcanist reservoir to boost the DC; Fortitude save VS DC 20 or go permanently blind.

Hopefully that will make it less of a threat upon our return.

Do you know when spells work?

Sorry, I'm not certain what it is you're asking. I'd imagine they work when you cast them, barring extenuating circumstances such as being in an antimagic field or something.

EDIT: Oh, you're asking if Riva knows whether the creature saved or not? Yes, she does; that's spelled out explicitly in the rules for all spells that are not area or effect spells (such as fireball and summon monster, respectively).

Core Rulebook, Magic Chapter, under Saving Throw:
Succeeding on a Saving Throw: A creature that successfully saves against a spell that has no obvious physical effects feels a hostile force or a tingle, but cannot deduce the exact nature of the attack. Likewise, if a creature's saving throw succeeds against a targeted spell, you sense that the spell has failed. You do not sense when creatures succeed on saves against effect and area spells.

fort save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

It worked.

Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8

That just made my day. :D

Now here's hoping it doesn't have blindsight or something like that, that makes the effort moot. *fingers crossed* Guess we will find out when we come back to drive it away.

"Hah! May a Sarjenka be the last thing you ever manage to catch in your tendrils you miserable weed! I hope you starve." And with that, Riva performs an about-face and marches away with an evil grin of satisfaction.

Moving on
You find nothing else of interest in that hex.

In Hex I37
perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16

When exploring you find a giant siting on boulder. The landscape around him is very broken with smashed tree and obversely thrown boulders. He is squatting on a rock trying to lick the last drops of moonshine out of a broken jug.

He notices the party and glares.

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

Toran walks forward, digging in his backpack and pulling out a flask of Rumboozle. He uncorks it and begins to pull out glasses from his mess kit, offering one to the giant.
How goes it, good sir?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Do I get a bonus from offering him alcohol?

yes +5.

Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8

Whose Perception check was that? What kind of giant is he, and are they typically dangerous?

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30

Assuming Riva saw the giant from a distance, she cast shield on herself before coming to within ear shot of the giant--as a matter of precaution.

Fellow players, we did heal up before getting too far, right? I'd hate to think you'd let poor Riva march for a day with such grievous wounds (half hit points). ;P

Aer follows behind hesitantly, Ragathiel a step behind her shoulder. "He doesn't look very happy.."

Speaking up, she helps with Toran's diplomacy roll. "We are from Allania to the north of here. We heard rumors of a giant wandering and wanted to see if there was a tribe of your kind nearby. My name is Maermana. The kind man offering you drink is Toran, and these are our companions Lady Sarjenka, Kalak and Mallichatti. What is your name?"
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 to assist

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

I'd presume that we would have healed up, if we're exploring a whole different hex.

I thought as much, just be sure to mark off resources if necessary.

With that roll feel free to read the srd on them.

The Rumboozle appears to to pick up his sprits markedly. He grins when drinking.
"Don't have No tribe. Stupid trolls wouldn't let me join"

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Toran, I'm not a part of a tribe either. Want to be friends? You don't have to be in a tribe to have friends.
Toran extends his hand, smiling winningly at the giant.

"Ya, but your Guffs"

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

I'm sorry, I'm 'Guffs'? What are 'Guffs', my friend?

"You know [hand wave] Little weak people."

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

Ah, then I would certainly qualify as a Guff. Regardless, everyone needs friends, even big, strong giants such as yourself. Besides, friends can provide alcohol, which is always nice.

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

"Think it might be better to comeback when he's sobered up." Mallichatti says looking around at the smashed terrain. "Something tells me he's not a happy drunk."

Is he drunk?

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 Sense Motive

"...Trolls? What tribe of trolls would you be talking about?"

Male Dwarf lvl 5 cleric of Angradd

Valak stands off to the side during this exchange. He keeps his weapon slung over one shoulder in a casual manner but is ready in case this giant becomes aggressive.

"Ya know, the trolls with the nice castle in [hex j30] bunch of jerks. What to keep all the lot to themselves"

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

What did they do to you?

"Wouldn't let me join. They have this big plan and didn't want to let me in on it said I couldn't keep me mouth shut."

Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8

So he's a troll then? And is he speaking Common? Not all giants can speak Common.

Diplomacy check to improve his attitude: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36

"What lot is it that they are wanting to keep to themselves? And why wouldn't they let you join? You look plenty fierce to me."

Bluff check to tell a falsehood: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26

Well, I imagine you would if you weren't in such a sorry state anyways.

Riva keeps well out of his reach.

I don't think bluff works like that

"ya I know." he picks you the boulder he was siting on.

"Who wouldn't want a piece of this?"
his fingers slip and he drops the boulder on his foot.

"OWWWWWWW!"

He he starts rampaging around the clearing howling.

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

Toran tries to keep a straight face, and does his best to console the giant.
Don't worry, they don't know what they're missing out on. Do you want to talk with us? We have plenty of secrets that we're willing to let our friends in on.

Diplomacy to calm him down: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8

Isn't the bluff skill traditionally used to tell lies?

I thought you were trying to tell if he was lying opps

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

"How's about we just come back in a couple of hours huh? Let em piss out the cobwebs in his head then we talk to him? He seems the type that would respond to mysterious tattoos after a night of drinking by smashing the tattoo artist."

Male Undine Dual-Cursed Battle Oracle 8 AC 21 (touch 12, FF 20); Hp: 59/59; Saves: +13,+12,+14; CMD 21; Perception +14; Init +5(X2)

Is there anything else that we can do to explore the two hexes? If so, I vote that we do that.

You can explore the hexes, but you haven't cleared them yet.

"He just told us about a tribe of trolls working mysteriously out of a keep. And I don't see a home anywhere nearby, who knows where he may wander off to. We should try to get him to come back to town where we can interrogate him better."

Turning back to the giant, Aer tilts her head to look up at him, still staying out of arm's reach. "Those trolls sound cruel and suspicious. How would you like to get back at them?"

Wow, how does Riva have +17 to diplomacy already? Puts the Cha-based characters to shame.

Male Dwarf lvl 5 cleric of Angradd

"I'm not sure it's such a good idea to bring a drunk giant back to town. Last thing we need is him rampaging about the place." I whisper so the big guy doesn't hear me. Last thing I want to do is piss him off.

Seemingly distracted with writing the fort's location onto their maps, Riva nevertheless responds, "I concur. Little good can come from bringing a child giant into a densely populated residential area, particularly whilst in such a mood. Let's calm him down first and see if he proves bane or boon to Caerulus."

Female Tower Elf Arcanist 8

FYI, I'm waiting for the troll to calm down again and answer some of the questions put to him.

He clams down eventually and sits on the dropped boulder.

"Stupid rock"
