I looked up the difference between a Vice Mayor and a Deputy Mayor.
Turns out the former acts sort of like the vice president, fulfilling various political functions and replacing the Mayor should he be incapacitated or killed prior to the expiration of his term. Would be a good fit for heir I guess. The latter, on the other hand, is more like the hand of the king from Game of Thrones, speaking on behalf of the Mayor and seeing that his will is done. A glorified assistant basically.
Not really sure which one would have more political power.

Money Talks (ACDC)
Tailored suits, chauffeured cars
Fine hotels and big cigars
Up for grabs, all for a price
Where the red hot girls keep on dancin' through the night
The claim is on you
The sights are on me
So what do you do that's guaranteed
Hey little girl
You want it all
The furs, the diamonds, the painting on the wall
Come on come on, lovin' for the money
Come on come on, listen to the Moneytalk
Come on come on, lovin' for the money
Come on come on, listen to the Moneytalk
A French maids, foreign chef
A big house, with king size bed
You had enough, you ship 'em out
The dollars up, down, you better buy the pound
The claim is on you
The sights are on me
So what do you do, that's guaranteed
Hey little girl
You break the laws
You hustle, you deal, you steal from us all
Come on come on, lovin' for the money
Come on come on, listen to the Moneytalk
Come on come on, lovin' for the money
Come on come on, listen to the Moneytalk

I thought only one, but I hadn't realized Maermana had left. If she has left.
Valek is gone, Maermana is gone, and I feared we were losing Mallichatti's interest as well due to his lack of posts. (If you're still lost, Mal, I'm happy to help you out if you communicate with me a bit.)
I'm going to have to withdraw from this game. There have been a few unsettling medical changes in our lives and I have less free time. Many apologies.
About how many replacements are you looking for?
We'd be hard pressed to find kingdom positions for newcomers at this point I think. Many of the characters who lost their players are continuing on as NPCs, so I guess we could retire one or more of them as new people come in if needed.
If you aren't going to leave us Mallichatti, as I feared, then we've got our core four with the addition of Elhedril Cólthel and don't need any more (though you guys are welcome to keep recruitment open if you want; Kingmaker is fairly ideal for a larger than normal group).
I'm going to fill out my calendar entries for Pharast, and then we're marching into the wilderness come hell or high water.

Doesn't sound okay unless that was your intent all along.
I'm wondering if maybe you are missing critical campaign information and that, that may be contributing to your confusion.
Downtime rules - Our calendar for tracking downtime activities
Kingdom rules - The statistics for our kingdom
Various Maps of our kingdoms:
Kingdom Territory, Castle District, Waterfront District
If you haven't already, I suggest bookmarking these documents to make them easier to reference. I update them regularly as our kingdom expands and changes.
You can also find them under the Campaign Info tab.
The calendar applies exclusively to the Downtime rules, and has little to nothing to do with the Kingdom itself.
Whenever the GM posts his various "phases," for each in-game month that's him walking us through the Kingdom Rules step by step, using the numbers found on the Kingdom Statistics Sheet above. That's the Kingdom rules in action and has little to nothing to do with Downtime rules.

Wow, you're a lot more productive than I am!
I had a pile of capital sitting around from the previous month for the bank. Most of its construction was completed in the previous month too.
The merc team was mostly an after thought, a cheap way to boost the numbers with what resources I had remaining. Unlike the bank which took ~1.5 months, the merc team was all started and completed in the month of Pharast.
The cumulative bonuses for my library, bank, and mercenary company are as follows:
Gold +241, Goods +52, Influence +225, Labor +55, Magic +54
If each of my holdings takes a 10 on their check that means I can effectively add 30 to each of the above modifiers to determine how much capital I earn THAT DAY. And that's without Riva getting personally involved at all. With her spending a downtime day to run ONE of the holdings, I can effectively add 59 instead.
For example, I could potentially earn 28 influence every day
(225 + 59 = 284, 284 / 10 = 28.4, rounded down)
However, it is highly unlikely that I would have the gold necessary to pay for that much capital, so it just sits around doing nothing until I am able to pay for it.
What's more, it is generally more efficient to split up the bonuses and earn several different types of capital at once (since you get to make a new check, adding 10 or +1d20, for each type of capital you attempt to obtain).

Ah, I've been counting all my stuff together, so I've only been adding my modifier to one thing, without being able to take ten on the rest. Either way, those are some very impressive modifiers!

The rules do recommend that for ease of record keeping. If it wasn't so easy for me to simply "add 10" for each extra business entity, I probably would have done it their way.
Note that you get to roll once for each building and/or organization, not for each room and/or team; though you can get more checks if you split up the bonus types as shown below:
You can apply each room's or team's bonus to any one listed type or [sic] capital each day or divide it among multiple listed types of capital. For example, an Alchemy Lab can generate only gp, Goods, or Magic, and not Influence or Labor. One day you could use all +10 of its bonus on the building's capital check to generate gp, on the next day you could use +5 on a check for generating gp and +5 on a check for generating Goods, and so on.

Alright, I've added those two to the Kingdom sheet's "discounted buildings" listing, just in case we decide to make the BP investment later.
Do you guys think I should remove the arena, bank, and hospital from the Castle District map since they are only considered downtime buildings at this time, or do you think it makes more sense to leave them there?

If they are downtime building made by players that have left then get rid of them. The business failed or something.

I just looked at the adventure path and I should have given you exp for some of your kingdom building Consider them achievements.
Founding a kingdom: 2,400 XP Check
Establishing a capital city: 1,200 XP Check
Reaching a kingdom size of 5: 1,600 XP Check
Reaching a kingdom size of 10: 2,400 XP Not yet
Filling a square with four blocks of buildings: 1,600 XP Check
Filling three city squares with buildings: 4,800 Check
XP Filling an entire city grid with buildings: 12,800 XP Check
So that's 6100 xp for each of you sorry it as been so long coming.

About 9 squares I think.
Removing the arena gives us 4 back. Removing the hospital gives us 2 back. We had 2 left over already. My bank technically doesn't take up a district spot currently, as I've not spent BP on it yet.
4 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 9
If the GM will let us backtrack a little, we could replace the arena with the Waterfront, going back to only a single district.

As one of your advisers, I feel it is prudent to remind you to share your speech with us for peer review prior to your event; otherwise, we can't advise you very well. :)
That is, post it here first, then once we've all agreed that it is well written, you can post the final in the gameplay thread. If we say the wrong thing and infuriate the public, then at least we all had our say in the matter. :P
Toran Silvercloak |
Here's what I would post, word for word. Let me know what you think. As he gets ready to speak, he'd quietly cast Enhanced Diplomacy on himself to be a little more persuasive.
Toran, with the help of his advisers, calls a massive city-wide meeting. On the steps of the castle we can replace this with any government building we choose, but I'm pretty sure we have a castle, he stands before the amassed citizens of Caerulus, flanked by Riva and Elhedril. As the crowd quiets, Toran speaks, his voice booming out over the crowds,
People of Allania, today our great city faces a situation unlike any we have seen before. I, along with my fellow city leaders and I'm sure many of you, have noticed several instances of vandalism throughout our city. These vandals have not merely defaced our city, but the symbols now displayed on our buildings are both offensive and threatening to the well-being of our city, and indeed to our kingdom.
For those of you who do not know, these symbols are the sign of Mestama, Demon Lord of cruelty, deception and hags. I tell you this not to alarm you, but to warn you to be on your watch! I ask you, as responsible members of our citizenry, to report any further instances of vandalism, as well as any activity that clearly relates to these symbols. It is only when we work together, as a united front, that we can repudiate what these symbols stand for and uphold the values we hold so dear.
I thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to attend this town gathering, and I have faith that together we can overcome this menace to our society with courage and integrity.
Riva Sarjenka |
I approve of the message. Our newly built city hall might be a good place to hold such a meeting.
I assume that the rest of it will likely be answering questions from the citizenry, keeping moods calm, and explaining in more detail what the cult is and the kinds of threats it represents.
Hopefully, a tip or something will come out of it that we can more directly act upon.
