Jamir stretches in the sun and gives a contented sigh. He wiggles his toes, finally free of those godawful boots he had crammed them into for his last several adventures, in the warm sand.

Ah! I do believe I am finally free of the supernatural cold I have felt in my bones since our first venture into Irrisen! And for once, no one is actively trying to kill us! At least, not until after the mission briefing...

Jawhar steps off of the ship, reveling in the sun and warmth. He says a quick prayer to Sarenrae in thanks for a safe journey, then goes in search of an eating establishment.

Let's see if these Osirians know how to make good coffee

Having sold all of his cold weather gear as soon as the the group began preparing to leave the Land of the Linorm Kings, he once again has his Qadiran garb on. The feel of the soft, flowing fabric is almost foreign after so many months in the cold.

"Friends, come! Let us sample some of the local fare and get our land legs back under us."

Looking around, he notices a few odd looks from locals on the docks.

Softly, he asks "You don't suppose that people here will be unfriendly because I am Qadiran, do you? The country became independent over hundred years ago, they can't still have bad feelings, can they?"

Craggark looks around, sweat beading on his brow now that the breezes blowing the ship have ceased. Wrapped similarly to Jawhar in billowy linen, the half-orc seems less comfortable by far to the cleric, moving gingerly as if his clothing would blow away at a moment's notice.

"Mammoth testicles, it is hot," Craggark idly curses, swatting his neck and then flailing ineffectively at buzzing insects. "How do you get anything done with these blasted flies?"

He disembarks onto the pier, still trudging along in his heavy Trollheim boots paired with the caftan. (The combination is comical to behold.)

"Does everyone in Osirion abstain from alcohol like Qadirans?" Craggark asks suddenly after Jawhar announces plans to seek out 'local fare'. "Am I going to have to start making my own?" Craggark seems a bit panicked.

Looking around and noticing the insects for the first time, Jawhar responds. "Hmmm.. Yes, there are a few flies about.

Growing up in a community of goat-herders tends to make you tolerant of flies. Here in the city, some people will use..."

Jawhar looks around till he spots a man with a little horsehair whip in his hand.

"There. See that merchant over there. See how he keeps swatting that whip about his shoulders. That is called a fly whisk. If you want to be taken seriously as a merchant, you may want to pick one up.

As for alcohol, I couldn't say. I've never been to Osirian. I believe abstention is only rigidly followed in the Kelesh Empire, where teachings of The Birth of Light and Truth have influenced the laws of the land."

After your mission in the Realms of the Mammoth Lords, your group makes the long arduous journey back to Absalom. You are reunited briefly, with Rognvald Skagni and given a well earned leave. You spend your time recovering from the miserableness of the cold, by taking advantage of the many Spa's and bathhouses that dot the various districts of Absalom. After three weeks of well earned and very refreshing rest, you are once again summoned by Venture Captain Drendel Drang.

I trust your rest was sufficient? The Venture Captain states, more than ask. He raises an eyebrow, as if to question your resolve as Pathfinders. He is aware you have endured many hardships these last few months. Well...The Decemvirate is set on testing your mettle it seems. Venture Captain Drang carefully opens, then pushes, a custom scroll case towards Analia and Jawhar, sliding it across the desk with the tips of his fingers. Inside the ornate case of Osirian design, lies a frail and crumbling scroll made of papyrus. That was retrieved from Great Library of Tephu over a year ago, by one of our agents. It is fundamentally, a land survey commissioned by one of the later Pharaohs. However, this survey is unique in that, it makes references to the tomb of an ancient Osirian king, known only as the Pharaoh of Sphinxes. The Venture Captain looks to your group to gauge your reactions.

Satisfied that, none of you have heard of this ancient Osirian King, Drang continues, I can see by the looks on your faces, you've never heard of this King either. It is simply not taught in the Academe History classes..but, like so much else in Osirion, much has been lost..*tsk* The Venture Captain stares idly out the window, a look of regret, passes like a shadow, over his face. But, perhaps not everything! Drang smiles dimly. A Sandstorm passed through the deserts southwest of Eto last week. It shifted the landscape of that place dramatically. The important part is; the tomb mentioned in the scroll before you, may have been uncovered.

Drendel Drang looks at you all appraisingly, Consider it an award from the Decemvirate, after all the cold you've endured. He looks at Analia, and Jamir...besides a couple of you could use a bit of sun. Drendel Drang stands up and hands Jawhar his orders and a few written instructions, outlining travel arrangements. Your passage has already been booked to Sothis. From Sothis overland passage has been arranged to Eto. From there, you will make your way to this newly discovered temple. Drang lets out an audible sigh, I must caution though, word of the pyramid’s discovery has spread far and fast. Archaeologists, explorers, and tomb robbers from across the Inner Sea are gathering in Osirion’s taverns and inns to plan expeditions into the desert, each vying to be the first to plunder the tomb’s treasures. The land marks detailed in that scroll may lead you to the exact location faster than your competition, as it details the land as it was over 3000 years ago...which the recent sandstorm may have helped replicate. You'll need to hurry Pathfinders...your ship leaves tomorrow morning.

Analia 'take 10' or DC:15 geography:

After examining the scroll, (if you don't speak ancient Osirian a copy can be translated free of charge before you leave the Grandlodge today) you determine, the pyramid must lie approximately 90 miles west-southwest of the city of Eto in the inhospitable region known as the Parched Dunes. This is a journey of over a week (or more with slower moving characters) on foot through trackless desert. The use of desert-acclimated mounts such as camels reduces the travel time to just 4-1/2 days. You also know that, you are traveling from one extreme to the other. The Parched dunes are known as one of the hottest places year round, in all of Golarion.

"It looks to be about 90 miles west-southwest of the city of Eto." she purrs somewhat distractedly.

Then a sudden jolt runs through her!

"Ooohh! I have read about this place! It is one of the hottest lands in all the world! This will be wonderful!!" comes Lia's excited reply.

Then, as if suddenly realizing the grave nature of the place, she grows somber, but only slightly, and says, "It's called the Parched Dunes. We should really get special mounts to travel, as it will take twice as long or more on foot. Presumably the less time we need to travel, the easier it will be."

And than as an afterthought she adds, "At least it's not cold, right?"

As happy to be headed somewhere warm as the rest, Torvald's excitement is palpable over the idea of investigating the extracts, tinctures, and concoctions of an entire new continent. For the entire voyage the dwarf eagerly pores over notes on local flora and excerpts of scholarly writings by prominent alchemists from the region.

"...and there's this plant, they call it the [i]soisl comedentip/i], and when purified its sap can create a potent heat-absorbing gel that creates an aura of intense cold! Could be useful..." the alchemist babbles excitedly to anyone who lets him get a word in.

Surveying the windy, hot terrain, he sighs a little. "It's almost a shame we're off to poke about some dusty old ruin. Do they not have Pathfinders here? They sent us an awful long way if its a race to see who can get there first."

--- Meanwhile, back in Absalom ---

Jawhar looks over the orders, and ponders the situation.

"Tomb Raiding? Isn't that just what everyone expects the Pathfinders to do? It seems like we just put in quite a bit of effort to improve the public perception of the Society and now we are going to go plunder an archeological treasure?

What about the Church of Pharasma? They hold great sway in Osirion, and will not be pleased to find us there. This mission would sound much better if we were going there to secure the site from other tomb raiders in concert with the Pharasmins."

Looking around at the surprised expressions of his fellow Pathfinders, he feels the need to defend himself.

"Judgement comes for us all, friends. Do you want to bring special attention to yourself by violating the principles of the Lady of Graves?

Regardless, Venture-Captain, are there any specific relics you have interest in, or is this a document and report mission?"

After the ensuing discussion, Jawhar will ask specifics about the travel arrangements.

"You mention that overland travel has been arranged from Sothis to Eto. Will that travel be by camel? Is there any possibility that those resources can be put at our disposal for the trip into the desert?"

Myth shakes his head. "What about mummies? The Pharasmins are at least flesh and blood...but the desert Elves I knew of sometimes spoke of mummies guarding the treasures of the Pharoahs' tombs..."

While Myth welcomes the change in climes, he has a healthy respect for the undead...

The Venture Captain looks at Jawhar with mild...surprise? annoyance? I've only arranged travel to Eto..from there, you'll make your way to the ruins. There should be plenty of mounts to rent or buy in Eto should you wish to use them. As far as offending the church of Pharasma, this temple is not under their protection. Drang sighs, As Pathfinders, part of our task is to preserve and respect knowledge. That's why I want a group of Pathfinders to record and recover whatever they can before the tomb is robbed blind. But, if it offends your sensibilities so much master Jawhar, I suppose I could find a last minute replacement for you? Drendel Drang slams his fist on his desk and winces. Now do any others want out of this mission?! Or do the rest of you respect the authority of the Decemvirate?!

It's clear, the Venture Captain will broker no more nonsense about who has rights ect...From past and personal experience, you all know the Pathfinder Society sometimes skirts the line of offending party's and political groups; in their un-ending search for knowledge and secretes. On this mission, you either do as your told..or step aside and let another take your place.

It is certainly better for history and for the Society if a group who will respect history is sent rather than some of the other groups we have met. Obviously, this is evidence of the wisdom of the Venture Captain."

Your dismissed. The irritated Venture Captain says. Your trip to Sothis is uneventful, as is your overland Journey to Eto. After, a night stayed at a local Inn, you find your self in the Eto Bazaar, stocking up on supplies for your pending journey. Vender's come from behind their blankets and their stalls to greet you and show you their wares. Dozen's of beggar children, surround you crying for food and money.

Last chance to stock up..get mounts ect..

"We should get...what are they called again....dromedaries?" Craggark suggests, as he looks over his newly-purchased equipment.

Craggark would like to purchase a spare waterskin, a filter hood (and he would suggest one for Lia as well), silk rope, a common grappling hook, and 4 more days of trail rations. He considers getting a shovel, but doesn't want to encumber himself too much. Now at 455 gp.

The following takes place before we are dismissed by Dreng - sorry, but I was at work and the briefing ended MUCH faster than I thought it would. I'd like DD to answer Jamir's questions if he has info to give.

Uncharacteristically quiet for most of the briefing, Jamir listens intently. Once it is clear that the party will all be going on the expedition, he cheers up noticeably. Hopping onto a vacant chair, he grins at the exacerbated venture captain.

"Recover the lost secrets of an ancient king? Get to the long-lost tomb before it gets looted by the venal and unscrupulous? Defeat the unknown and doubtless horrifying magical wards and defenses and undying guardians that the dead king's people would certainly placed between the tomb's entrance and the presumed hoard? Return to Absalom alive and triumphant, having achieved our mission goals and much more? We are, of course, the only people for the job, Captain Dreng!"

Nearly levitating with enthusiasm, Jamir is about to rush out the door then stops and turns back to Dreng.

"So, do you have any information about the unknown and doubtless horrifying magical wards and defenses and undying guardians that the dead king's people would certainly placed between the tomb's entrance and the presumed hoard? Any tips for devoted Pathfinder working in Osirion that you think we ought to know?"

--- Back in Eto ---

Jawhar ventures out into the Bazaar, looking to experience life in the cities of Osirion.

He presses a few coppers into the hands of the children, and gives them each a blessing.

He stops at a food cart, where he buys some Mashi (stuffed peppers) and bread. While enjoying the meal, he inquires of the proprietor the location of a good stable where camels can be rented.

Leading the group to the animals, he engages the proprietor, and attempts to do his best to haggle for a reasonable fee.

"Good afternoon, sir. My friends and I are looking to take a trip of a few days into the desert. We would like to rent camels and their required gear. Four of the larger beasts, and two smaller ones.

In addition, we would like to hire the services of a handler to care for the animals at night."

I see no place where the prices for mount rental are listed

male Snows of Summer

Um just I'm just going to use something comparable under transportation as a baseline price. You can use your skills to role-play/haggle if you want.

Ah Hello good sir, I can see you're a worshiper of the Dawnflower! I too respect the Lady of Healing light! The shifty teamster points to his picket line of camels, behind which is a tent made of banners and tapestries representing many of the Gods and Goddesses of Golarion. In the upper right hand corner is a dirty tapestry sewn into the tent with an older depiction of Sarenrae. To be fair...most of the tent seems to have seen a lot of wear and tear, not just the section of the Dawnflower. My name is Anwar, I see you're looking for transport, for a journey in to the dessert...Well look no further! Anwar has the finest stock in all Eto and at reasonable prices too I might add! The greedy man rubs his hands together...now were we looking to buy our rent today good priest?

Ba! Are you a monster?! The dessert is too dangerous for children... And if you're going to explore those newly discovered ruins it's four and a half days journey, I'm told! That's 9 or 10 days! My beast are hearty but they must subsist on half rations?! And the children what if you die in the tomb! Three of Osirion's little ones left in the dessert! I've heard that you Kelishites drive a hard bargain but, I had no idea you valued Osirion's lives so little! No! my price remains firm and if you want some men to tend the heard it will be 3sp a day per man. Or I can sell you a slave for 75gp.. Anwar sniffs decisively..

sense motive DC:15:
Anwar isn't really upset about Jawhar asking about the children. He just thinks he's gained the upper hand because Jawhar miss-calculated. There may still be room for negotiation, if you try again. But, he's getting firmer with his position (you may only have one more diplomacy shot with Anwar:but there are 3 other major Camel dealers in the Bazar)

Jawhar laughs heartily.

"Oh, well done, Anwar. You're more intelligent than I gave you credit for.

Yes, I intended to hide our true destination and buy more feed elsewhere, but you saw through that. Bravo!

You have heard many things about Keleshites. Well, I've heard things about Osirians as well. Camel drivers who take their charges out into the desert but then renegotiate the terms and charge exorbitant rates to be led back to town.

Hard to say, "No" when you are stuck in the middle of a desert, isn't it?

No, I ask for children for several reasons.

One, they can ride double with us. I assume you won't be supplying mounts for our tenders, and we need to move quickly.

Two, they would be less likely to try to rob us blind in the middle of the desert and I would have a better chance to influence them to make sure they are our friends.

Lastly, I've seen a lot of poverty in this town already, and it breaks my heart. I gave coins where I could, but it is always better to give some work if the option arises. I often served as a guide when I was a young goatherd. It was good work, and exciting as long as you watched your back."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

"So, then, TEN days of feed, and we will pay the 3sp per day to the handlers ourselves. If you can't think of any children who are capable of handling themselves in the desert, then pick good men. But, it will be your responsibility to make sure they are mounted."

Anwar is shocked that, Myth states the obvious so openly. He hurriedly grasp Jawhar's hand and says, Now now...lets not be hasty...it's all apart of the bargaining process! Tell him good priest, your elven friend is obviously not familiar with the ways of dessert people such as you and I! Anwar allows a trickle of sweat to escape his forehead and run down his cheek.

Now where were we? Ah yes...perhaps there is a teenage boy or two that could survive the journey without much peril ...The Bedu are a hardy people after -all. But, you pain me good priest of Sarenrae... Anwar's eyes are greedy but desperate as he makes his final plea, Two teamster boys at 3sp a day, You pay half their wages to me up front, and the rest to them directly upon your return. I will even generously provide the boys a mount and feed for all the animals on your journey at no extra charge. Anwar smiles smacks his hands together and offers his hand, are we agreed? The greedy merchant ask hopefully.

"You are a skilled negotiator, my friend. Yes, we have a deal. We will assume a ten day trip, thank you for that free bit of intelligence.

Half of the payment up front, half when we return."

Jawhar starts to retrieve his pouch and count out the agreed upon amount of gold.

So, 50gp deposit x 6 animals = 300gp, 2 gp / day x 6 x 5 days = 60gp, 1.5 sp / day x 2 x 5 days = 1.5 gp, with another 61.5 gp agreed to upon our return.

I'll cover the 361.5 for now. Yes, I realize that Anwar is probably not actually going to pay the guides. We'll be sure to give them hazard pay...

After the negotiations end and the group are walking away from Anwar's stables, Craggark does some quick accounting in his head.

"So that's about 60gp a head for us, if I count correctly. The Exchange should cover my costs up to a certain extent. I wonder if the Society will cover some of those costs as well?"

He adds to Jawhar, "You did a nice job with that fellow. I would'nt have had a clue. Hell's bells," Craggark laughs, "I thought we weren't getting dromedaries at all until Torvald and Lia told me that they were the same thing!"

Jamir is relieved that Jawhar's dickering paid off, and that it did not result in the party being responsible for a group of children. However, the camel dealer's offer to sell them a slave gives him a jolt. He glares at the man, fingering the hilt of his rapier, until Jawhar finishes his negotiations.

As the priest turns away, Jamir begins walking slowly toward Anwar, teeth gleaming in a predatory grin. Feeling a hand on his shoulder, he turns, ready to brush off any objection to the little talk he is about to have with the Osirian.

So, who wants to remind Jamir they have a job to do, so he won't assault the camel dealer and threaten to carve out the man's eyeballs if he doesn't free his slaves now now now?

Your group settles on a price and finishes provisioning themselves. It's mid-morning before you "set-off" in to the desert and the scorching heat slows you immediately. You travel several hours under the hot afternoon sun before one of the Bedu boys (Jabril) suggest your party switches to traveling at night like his own people do. You decide to camp at the hottest parts of the day (making it difficult to sleep) but, eventually falling in to a rhythm that works for your group. Your wayfinder's prove invaluable, in assisting your navigation by stars. Eventually the sun begins to set on the 5th day of your journey and your group breaks camp..estimating only half a night's travel to your destination.

About an hour before midnight you see it. The bright desert moonlight spills over the silhouette of, an incredible man-made mountain. The pyramid rises out of the desert sands, a relic of an earlier age. Its limestone casing blocks are weathered from millennia of scouring sands, but the structure seems solid and intact. A stone wall, buttressed by drifts of sand, surrounds the entire structure. To the east stands a squat stone building, connected to the pyramid by a long, covered causeway. No visible entrances to the pyramid’s interior can be seen.

Your group heads towards the stone building hoping to find some shelter from the desert for the boys and the camels from the harsh desert environment while your group explores the temple. When asked if they'll be OK alone the younger of the two boys (Tariq age 14), answers, You yes sir! We will be very OK! You have treated us well! We like the sweet figs the blue man with the sharp teeth has given us! And the small man..he always ask about our welfare..Ask if Anwar treats us well? The boy scratches his head as if that was a strange thing to ask. I think Anwar must like us a lot! He let us serve you kind people! We are very happy to be with you yes!... He points to the camels, We will watch the animals and tend the tents while you explore yes?! He looks happy to be of service. We will do a good job no worries sir! Somewhat, satisfied with the boys safety, you helped them set up camp near several uncut huge stones. The stones may have been brought in to, build the pyramid thousands of years ago..but never used. After securing camp and checking your gear you set off for the square building 50 yards away.

As you approach, you can see a rectangular building constructed of large stone blocks. It sits on the desert sands to the east of the pyramid. A wide portico opens to the east, its ceiling supported by two rows of red granite columns. A dark passage leads deeper into the temple to the west.

Ok on slide 4 is an image of a similar portico and a map of it on the left. Place your pawns on the map as you enter the Portico from the right. Also please fill out the information in slide 2 please. Place your character in their default single file marching order please.

Torvald smiles and provides each of the boys three gold coins. "These are for you, not for Anwar. Also, if a full day and night passes and none of us comes out to check on you, you're to ride away, understand? Whatever's in there will be dangerous, so don't follow us in either, y'hear?"

Once satisfied that the two youths understood him, the dwarf does another gear check and then advances on the structure, shield at the ready and bomb in hand.

I assume I would go about 3rd in line, after Jamir/Craggark? Close enough to spot traps and throw bombs but not in melee.

Myth ponders over the polar opposite climes from his last two missions, trying to decide which one he likes less...but the answer he keeps coming up with is both...

However, he is fascinated when they come in sight of the Pyramid, thinking, Imagine the culture, history, and riches that lie inside. He pauses and then frowns, wondering, And maybe mummies...

Guess Myth will bring up the rear with Jawhar, trying to cover his companions as best he can with his bow...

I put everyone on the map, and moved Myth and Jawhar back a space to fit us all. Just before going in, Lia will use her wand of mage armor on herself(updating our resource list). Lia will replenish her used alchemist's fire and grab another saltpeter to get back to full. She will also buy 6 holy water and give one to each of the party to carry.

Lia follows behind Torvald, peaking around him and even under one of his arms now and again, trying to get a view of things as the group begins their decent.

Her whisper comes is as rapid as her normal speech, this time aimed at Torvald's back.

"See anything interesting? I bet this place is filled with traps! You've been studying traps a bit now haven't you Torvald? That and locks have been quite the thorn for us now and again. Do you think they wand some light up there for Jamir? I can give them some light like usual, but I don't want to unless they want it... Can you ask them if they want it? Thank's Torvald!"
