Darin the Cheerful |
Darin will read the list and the note.
A rhyming riddle. Great, we're dealing with either a madman or a megalomaniac. Or a mad megalomaniac. And probably some sort of cult, since there's the mention of Paradise which is pretty vague all things considered - you wouldn't believe what Asmodeans look forward to - but appears to involve some sort of tithe.
He sighs dramatically and starts to mutter to himself.
I'm starting a tea room when this is all over - it'll have scones, and lace doilies and other things that actively repel adventures of any sort. I'll put it someplace where adventure is taken care of by other people, like Absalom or Sothis.
Darin the Cheerful |
Darin will look at the ranger, then at the list.
What was his name?
Darin the Cheerful |
As you know I'm playing in two Runelords games at the moment so I get a little confused, are we near a mountain shaped like a skull?
Darin the Cheerful |
Dang, I had a joke for that.
Tarinhilliberanavius |
Tarinhil says, "Did Fernus not say greed was one of the negative emotions linked to Runelord magic? Or am I just paranoid and looking for patterns where none exist?"
He sighs, "We should follow up on these names... If it is a Cult, I'd prefer finding out what they're doing before they manage to do it."
He then chuckles at Darin's rant, "Will you be following a different patron, then? Someone less heroic and drunk, maybe a little more like a a great-aunt or grandmother? Is there a patron of little cakes and boring life?"
Vincente Valentino Valdemar |
Reads over the list several times. It is much like reading over a manifest for a caravan. Looks it over to see if there are any names they recognize.
"I think finding their leader might not be a bad idea...I mean...if anyone can help them rebuild...I don't doubt the man that lead them before this, how about you," he says with a nod to the two rangers.
Darin the Cheerful |
I say we try to find the commander, then go beat up this Kaven fellow until he tells us what we want to know.
No, I'll make Cayden Cailean sponsor the tea house. He already sponsors a winery in Cheliax and a restaurant in Andoran that I know of - why not a tea house?
Darin the Cheerful |
What kind of tea do you drink?
Remember Darin was raised by a dwarf!
Tarinhilliberanavius |
Tarinhil laughs again, "I'm not sure you have a civilized understanding of what tea actually is, Darin."
His laugh fades and his mutated features twist into a near-snarl, "I'm torn between thinking we'd be better off tracking down Kaven, given the whole name-on-list-and-circled thing... but then part of me worries this list is here to have us jumping at shadows and accusing innocents of being wrapped up in all this... except, of course, that we lost a ranger on the way in and the wandering off was awful suspicious.... Maybe we are better off trying to track down Lamatar.. at least so we know the fort is in good hands before we start using our gods-given talents to get into trouble..."
Darin the Cheerful |
My tea is very civilized - some dark tea leaves, a bit of lemon, a shot of double-fortified brandy per cup. People love my tea. It comes from an old recipe from Highhelm from the Bronze-belly clan who were the first dwarven tea merchants back to the ninth century!
Darin protests vigorously as Phooka and Tarin try to take his dream of a tea room away from him.
Vincente Valentino Valdemar |
Leaning on his branched spear, he just listens quietly. "Those on the list seem to be attached to this woman. We should see what connection they have, so that we know more about her. She may try and return to harm us. So now...we should be better prepared, if possible."
Vincente Valentino Valdemar |
I believe that to be the case
Darin the Cheerful |
Darin votes for whichever option has tea. He's running out of stone whiskey.
MiniGM |
Our heroes begin to make their way back to the town, about half a day out you got a chance to rest you are met by a townsperson
He shouts to you all to hurry back with him, the town is in trouble. Immediately you regret Phooka staying behind with the rangers, you arrive as fast as you can
The village of Turtleback Ferry is drowning. The
muddy, surging waters of the Skull River tear
through the center of the community to fill
Claybottom Lake with a terrible fury-many of
the buildings that once sat comfortably on the
river's banks are already flooding and in danger
of collapsing from the rushing water. A group of
children and a woman huddle aboard one of the
old turtleshell ferryboats, the tiny flood-bashed
vessel lodged up against the general store and
threatening to capsize at any moment. Beyond,
the town's church stands solid, its fol(ndations
already three feet deep in floodwaters.
Frantic movement is visible in the upstairs
windows as townsfolk trapped inside rush about
in a desperate attempt to save scriptures, comfort
the sick, and pray for deliverance.
The waters are fast and dangerous, it is a DC 25 swim check to navigate the water, and will take 2 checks to get to the children should you choose to do so
Tarinhilliberanavius |
Would flying allow Tarinhil to pull sone kids out, Mini?
Darin the Cheerful |
How long would it take to reach the kids? I can use Righteous Might to make myself Large and weigh eight times as much which would help ford 3-feet waters but I've got 2 minutes of time at most.
Darin the Cheerful |
Also, can I create a dam using stone shape? Plus I've got air walk. Hot damn, I've got options out the wazoo.
Darin the Cheerful |
Darin will look at the children with concern and then look at his friends.
Hold still, I've got something that will help with the rescue.
He begins exhorting Cayden Cailean for strength, recounting many of the Lucky Drunk's feats of strength from his mortal days: lifting a bench with four busty maidens seated on it over his head to win a bar bet, tipping a barrel over to try to drink the whole thing at once after arriving at a particularly isolated tavern and arm wrestling a troll to determine ownership of an ox all feature prominently.
Cast communal ant haul on himself and his companions which triples our carrying capacity.
Darin the Cheerful |
Well that tears it.
Darin suddenly seems to swell as he grows to a massive size, towering over his companions.
Casting righteous might with the extended metamagic rod.
LET THAT CHILD GO!
Gone is the normally reluctant cleric and instead is substituted the towering anger of a powerful cleric of a mighty and wrathful god.
Vincente Valentino Valdemar |
How far are we from the snake?
Vincente Valentino Valdemar |
Draws forth a Potion of Flying and drinks it down. "We need to all get in there...save the kids and the town!"
Elorin |
Elorin brings out a rod of lesser empower and hits it with a Fireball, catching just the snake!
Empowered Fireball 10d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 6, 6, 5, 3, 6, 1, 4) = 37 * 1.5+5=60 points of total damage Reflex Save DC is 25.
Take that you pesky serpent!
Tarinhilliberanavius |
Tarinhil looks at the snake and the child in each hand, "Anyone take one of these kids? Hands are full, which makes it hard to punish this snake..."
Unalaq |
Nowhere near Tarin at the moment, Unalaq also quaffs a potion of fly.
That would be a move to get it out and a standard to drink it.
Tarinhilliberanavius |
Mini, I assume I can't fly the kids to safety because the snake has one -- or did it let go to lunge at Unalaq?
Tarinhilliberanavius |
Now I really wish I had a vestigal limb!
Darin the Cheerful |
Since Darin is now 12 feet tall and weighs approximately 1,360 pounds thanks to righteous might what is the Swim check? Or is there no longer one?
Darin will wade in to retrieve the kids, picking two up at least.
Darin the Cheerful |
Out of curiosity is there any knowledge check to do to identify the giant snake?
Tarinhilliberanavius |
Any chance of tossing the non-snaked kid to the approaching giant cleric to free up a hand?
Darin the Cheerful |
Ant haul triples your carrying capacity so I'd say yes since you'd be able to throw more but you'd still have to make a Ranged attack or Strength check. That's how I'd rule anyway.
Swim: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
I'll get you for these rolls Paizo. And your little goblin too.
Tarinhilliberanavius |
Tarinhil eyes the distance then holds on, "Hurry? I need a hand to fight back with..."
