@Nic You notice the water in the pool is clean. Whether that's of significance or not is unknown

@Eloviel & Vanea its a Vargouille. They are an evil extraplanar creature capable of turning any living thing into one of their own by kissing it. They also have a paralyzing shriek and a poisonous bite

@Blue The door opens to a small hallway leading up to another door. Beyond the second door is a spiral staircase leading upward which has collapsed in. Narrow fissures and cracks appear to let fresh air in below, but they way is impassable.

Ew....i've read about those. If you're infected and can't get rid of the affliction, your head swells up, sprouts wings and POPS off your torso...ending up a freak like that.

Momentarily distracted by the banter, Nic realizes the water seems clear despite the splatter from Vire's attack, which he had thought had tainted the pool. Nic will take a moment, casting Detect Magic his gaze first lingering over the pool, then slowly taking in the rest of the room. His irises become streaked in dancing blue fire while his pupils darken to pitch black as arcane energies enhance his sight.

"Such a thing once looked like us?" Blue ponders. At the stairwell, he does a quick search for tracks to see if creatures are in fact using this somewhat. He reports back to the others that the way ahead is blocked and whether he has reason to suspect that there's a way in and out. "Do any a you 'ave an idea whereabouts under Sandpoint we are now?"

Let's hope not for the vargouille!

Do you want some light, Nicolae? I can give you some.

Vanea turns to her companions

This ugly thing you killed, Vire, is called a Vargouille. Their shriek paralyse the listeners, their bite is poisonous- A good reminder that it's important never to feel the teeth when you get some head

She winks naughtily at Blue
And that's not even what's worse in them: if you're paralysed, they try to kiss you, and you might become one of them, your head detaching itself from your dead body... Not very enjoyable, i suspect.

Male Human Evoker Level 3 (HP 17/17 | AC:16 | T:12 | FF:14 CMB: 2 | CMD:14 | Fort:+2 | Ref:+3 | Will:+4 | Init:+4 | Perc: +7 | Speed 30')

I am having enough light, ja, but I give you thanks. A few moments longer and I should have both pool and chambers to be fully screened, da. I am for making sure there is not anything to be here that might be important if missed.

Nic:
The pool glows with a magical aura. It appears cleansing itself is its only function.

Male Human Evoker Level 3 (HP 17/17 | AC:16 | T:12 | FF:14 CMB: 2 | CMD:14 | Fort:+2 | Ref:+3 | Will:+4 | Init:+4 | Perc: +7 | Speed 30')

Interesting, the pool it is enchanted to be the self cleaning, ja. I am for wondering, could such magic be used in a larger pool, yeh. Set such a thing up in Sandpoint, for letting the peoples to bring laundry and clean together, da.

Nic takes a few moments and removes a small journal, ink, and nibbed pen from his pack. He roughly sketches the pool and notes the aura he sees, as well as an image of the statue from the previous room.

I am the sorry for delaying, neh. This could have been being done later, but I did not wish to be forgetting. Turning to Blu, again loaded and ready to proceed, Neh Blu, I am thinking the tunnel took us to be out and away from Sandpoint. It may be we are being near to the hills outside the village, ja, though geography is not being my interest in studying. If my former comrade were here, Kerak could have told us ja what beach the goblins had been for camping at.

F Aasimar Cleric

"If it is self cleaning, maybe we can take some of it and try it on a barrel of water back at Sandpoint. We could make advantage of it."

A good idea, ja. I am having an empty vial from an earlier potion. We shall see what effects it may be for making later.

Nic takes the vial, cleans it out as best he can from his waterskin, then fills it with water from the pool.

Ready we are I think, onwards.

Nic resumes his place third in line following Vire and Blue, unless those gentlemen swap places with one of the ladies. Whichever way, Nic seems to find himself in position three.

I am making an assumption here, let me know if I am wrong. I moved the map and group together to explore the next section, the passage next below our current one. I kept the configuration much as Jimibones had it.

With as you are saying, the next passage was to lead us to collapsed stairs, and agreed as we are not being yet ready to face the skulls to the north, ja, I am taking it we will investigate the next passage, yeh. I am giving the thanks to Blue and Vire for us on leading the way, da.

Eloviel follows closely, just behind Nic. She moves a bit closer and asks "Uhh... Nic? They say that wizards spend a lot of time studying in order to learn spells. So I'm quite surprised to find one relatively young... or did you use magic to appear as such?"

F Aasimar Cleric

Vanea's giving me the image of bugs bunny stalking Elmer.

"Wizards..sorcerers....use the same knowledge. They just take their time to learn more while sorcerers have the fun of fast casting."

As the group moves, Nic answers Eloviel, his voice low.I have been to studying magic for almost fifteen seasons now. With the passing of my vistii, I was without name, without home, without a place of belonging. I was lucky that my saviors were to be selling me into the service of my master. He was without heirs and so he took me on as his slave. Once my pomanya was over and the debt of surviving had been repaid, he made me then to be like his phrall and apprentice. Upon his death I served his fFamilia as a chorihas, a crafter of wares both herbal and mystical. This was at least until the happening of my "accident." Now, I am to be finding myself here, helping the peoples of Sandpoint.

Its my understanding that sorcerers use no knowledge at all to cast, nor do they need an understanding to wield it. its something they just discover from within at an early age, often emerging around puberty. Wizards study for decades before fruition. That said, sorcerers are often young, wizards are almost always aged

F Aasimar Cleric

What we lack in knowledge we make up for with fun.

@Blue The tunnel widens here into what appears to have once been a small shrine, for to the northeast, steps lead up to a platform of gray stone. Sitting atop the platform is an ancient altar, little more than a jagged block of black marble with a shallow concavity on top of it. This basin is filled with what appears to be filthy water.

Blue waves to the others that the coast is clear and moves into the room. He glances to see if the shrine is dedicated to one of the however many deities are worshiped in Sandpoint's new cathedral. If not, he shrugs and scratches his head, then moves forward to listen at the door, hoping to find out if they are about to be surprised.

Yes, of course Natalia. Nic steps from Vanea, turning slightly, Excusing me please, very much sorry, apologizing as he moves a little more comfortably away, removing his pack. He removes the vial and his journal kit. His face is a little red, a little flush at the sudden, unexpected attention.

Yes Rani Vanea, my people are to be knowing of Calistria. A few of the Sczarni fFolk, they are becoming quite the smitten with her, um, er, at least for the brothels I am thinking. They say that as being creatures of the passions, the lusts, Calistrians are the quite versed well, but one must be to guard the trunk, ja, in that the root does not undo the man.

Nic moves up to the altar and removes the stopper from the vial. He lets one, two, three drops of the waters fall into the pool below, watching for a reaction from the tainted basin. Many of the phrall find dalliances with womens outside their vanii, but it always for the baser reasons, yeh tapping his red sash. Most still hold themselves apart from them when they are returning home, staying "true" to their Varisian selves tapping his chest over his heart. The line is sometimes to being hard to remember, but one must not be forgetting, for to be losing a part of themselves in such things. Nic again adjusts the gray sash around his waist, absentmindedly. If a part of you is lost, it is forever so, and you are the being less fFolk for it. A Varisian who looses too much, whos is giving away the too much of himself, he ceases to be Varisian, ceases to be fFolk, he joins himself to the peoples.

Stepping away from the shrine, he begins sketching a rough picture of it in his journal, leaving a few pages between each drawing. Of the women of the fFolk, well, I am not to be the best to speak on them. As only recently being accepted as phrall, and still being without vanii, many womens they do not see me. I offer little to be giving for a new vanii, for to be giving a life true to the familia. Someday, nodding and turning his head as he judges his work to the original, Someday that will be for the changing, Desna smiling.

Male Human Evoker Level 3 (HP 17/17 | AC:16 | T:12 | FF:14 CMB: 2 | CMD:14 | Fort:+2 | Ref:+3 | Will:+4 | Init:+4 | Perc: +7 | Speed 30')

As he puts his gear back into his pack, and readies himself, Nic stops, looking over to Vanea. I am sure though, the Sczarni they miss the mark I think. There is more to Calistria than the brothels, ja. This seems to me to be the cover yes, the pages within, now they hold more the story, this I am seeing. You are to being no mere dalliance, da. Looking to Eloviel and Natalia, You are all more than what the fFolk like to think of peoples' womens. Strong, purposeful, good heads and fierce hearts I am thinking. There is more Shoanti to you than to mere peoples. More to being Varisian yeh, at the least in your own ways. It is good to be with you, all of you. It is less like I have left the Vardosii, more that I have hitched myself to a new vardo, ja.

Edit: Forgot to leave space for actions if the waters react from above, sorry.

"Oh- uhhhh.... thank you for the compliment. E-hem, the Shoanti... I've shared music with them once you know, though only the Hawk Clan seemed to be open to strangers at that time. Other tribes were more busy on their 'tasks'. The Hawk Clan seem to revere Sylphs for some strange reason..." says Eloviel, blushing madly but grateful that for the dim lighting.

The Shoanti and Varisians, we are together being the heirs to these lands, the servant-sons of old Thassilon. When that empire was to be falling into decadence and ruin, we were there left to pick up the pieces. While we the fFolk, we learned to accept the coming of the peoples, Taldanes and Chels, learned to accept their presences here, the Shoanti did not. They did fought, still fight, to keep the lands free of all who are "not to be here".

Looking to be more relaxed, less embarassed than before, Nic seems to open up, taking a stride while having the chance to share his knowledge. The fFolk were how you say, household staff to the old lords. The Shoanti, they were the soldiers. They have not given up the fight, not all, not yet. My former comrade, he was banished from Sandpoint, a true Shoanti, unsettled in himself. He attacked Tsuto's father for a perceived insult. The Shoanti can be, how do you say, touchy. Perhaps if he had injured the old man a little further, he would not have been out of bed, not have been slain by his own son, neh. Well, who is to be saying, da, Desna winks.

F Aasimar Cleric

"I'm no clergy, so sorry i can't. Magic i can, but evil nope, nada."

@Blue You hear nothing through the doors.

@Nic You do detect a moderate conjuration aura, but can identify it no further. When you drop the clean water in you lose sight of it as it mixes with the putrid water.

@Vanea You don't recognize any of the symbolism.

@Eloviel You recognize it as a shrine to Lamashtu, the Mother of Monsters.

Nic covers himself with a gesture of wings, Desna weeps, the mother of monsters here. Sandpoint is truly to be in the dangers now. We cannot be for allowing this to stand.

Nic pauses to go over his mental inventory. The altar is infused with conjuration magicks, stronger than what I am thinking any of us can create. It may be the beasts here are in someway being the created or changed by these polluted waters, ja. I am having acid and I am having alchemist's fire, though little enough of either by my guess. Do you think we might be making a plan to destroy this font? To ruin it for use by anyones? Realizing it may not be possible now he adds, If not now, then at some point, some point soon, yeh.

Blue opens the door.

This huge room looks like nothing more than an immense underground cathedral. Stone doors stand to either side of the entrance, but beyond this, the walls are carved with strange, spiky runes. In the center of the room is a large pool, with a ring of polished human skulls balanced on stone spikes arranged in a circle around the deeper midsection. At the far end of the room, a pair of stone stairways leads up to a pulpit on which sits a second pool, this one triangular and filled with churning, bubbling water that looks almost like translucent lava. Yet while whisps of what look like heat and steam rise from the strange orange liquid, the room itself is deathly cold.

As you reveal yourselves, a tiny creature on the opposite end of the room flys into a rage. She shrieks, "How dare you enter my mothers sanctum!" and slashes her wrist, dripping blood into the orange liquid, and out climbs another vile sinspawn.
