"Hey, we've got a door here, look off the dias here," Volkar headed towards the now visible door. He looked at it and then looked for a handle to open it.

Volkar opens the door to find a short flight of stairs leading down to another closed door.

"Stairs, stairs down, but no dog kennel at least," Volkar shouted and realized that Daelric was right there and lowered his voice a bit. "If that was the religious chamber, this probably leads off to where the priests, if there were such, would be able to get ready for their vile deeds back there."

"Let's close those doors" Andrezi says, pointing to the double doors the party entered the chamber through, "and see what lies beyond the door Volkar is at."

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

Andrezi closes the main doors to the chapel, then the team forms up to move out through the dais. Daelric cautiously pushes the door open to reveal a long room, currently unoccupied. The southern wall of this room is a bank of cells with closed iron doors, six in all. The rest of the room is obviously a torture chamber; a rack sits against the far wall, an iron maiden stands to the north, and a fire pit smolders below a spiky cage dangling from a chain in the ceiling to the east. There are two more doors exiting this room.. one on the eastern wall, and one farther down the northern wall from your entrance.

Andrezi goes to look in each of the cell doors, on the off chance that there are living prisoners held captive within.

Starting on the far left and working my way to the right from there.

I follow Andrezi with sword and shield at the ready, once all the cells have been inspected I move to the Northern door and get ready to open it.

M Dwarf H:v Alchemist 5 | HP 27/32 | AC 16 T 12FF 16 | Fort+6 Ref +6 Will+6 | Initiative +2 | Perception+9| Diplm+6 | Appraise+9 | MWBattleaxe Melee +4 Attack bonus, 1d8+1, crt x3 ; CMD 14; 1185 gp 19sp

Volkar followed behind the other two and as they went to look into each of the individual cells, he walked along the wall opposite of the cells and stopped at another door. One was immediately to his left, the other to his right. He held his ax at the ready, and then looked back at the others.

"More doors in this vile temple," Volkar said as he nodded to both doors. "Anything in those cells?"

Once everyone is ready, I shall open the northern door cautiously.

May not be able to post tomorrow due to a family commitment. I shall try to log on at some point though.

Kiera slinks cautiously into the room and stays behind the dwarves as the group explores.

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

Daelric: Thats fine. Thank you for the heads up. I hope all goes well, and if it is a pleasure commitment, I hope yall have fun!

The group moves in, carefully inspecting the cells. The doors are locked, but from the slide windows, you are able to determine that other than rot and trash mixed in with some bones here and there, the cells contain nothing that may be a viable rescue. It is obvious from the filthy conditions that no one who comes here cares enough to so much as clean the blood off of the torture implements, much less muck out the cells. The smell of waste, old blood, terror, and hopelessness creeps out of the iron cells like a pervasive and clinging cloud of misery. Once the cells are cleared, Daelric moves to the northern door, carefully opening it to reveal a short dogleg hall leading to a small room. Obviously the abode of the goblin jailer, it is empty but very well used. A dusty nest of rags, dog hides, and straw sits in the northeast corner of this room. To the south, a long workbench cluttered with pliers, hooks, tongs, saws, and knives runs along the wall. Mixed in with the tools is a ring of keys.

M Dwarf H:v Alchemist 5 | HP 27/32 | AC 16 T 12FF 16 | Fort+6 Ref +6 Will+6 | Initiative +2 | Perception+9| Diplm+6 | Appraise+9 | MWBattleaxe Melee +4 Attack bonus, 1d8+1, crt x3 ; CMD 14; 1185 gp 19sp

Volkar looked over the tools left on the workbench. He looked at the key ring and picked them up.

"We may need these, though I suspect that they are for the cells only." Volkar tucked the keys into his belt and headed back to the prison room. He turned back and waited for the others before opening the door that appeared to be leading out of the prison.

"Where's the jailor?" muses Kiera.

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

Volkar throws open the next door to reveal the remains of what must have been some sort of feasting hall or meeting area.
A single lantern hangs from a hook on the wall next to where the stairs enter this room from the north. Several rickety doors open into this room, and a few discarded dog pelt rugs lie forgotten in the northeast corner. Along the southern wall lies three doors, all closed, with another door across from your grand entry.

"So this place keeps growing and growing," Volkar said as he looked about the large hall. "Anyone got a preference? Suspect we need to look into all of these."

Male Varisan Human Cleric (Varisian Pilgrim) of Desna 5 | HP 36/36 | AC 18 T 13 FF 15 | Fort+6 Ref +5 Will +9 (+10) | Initiative +3 | Perception +4 | Channel Energy 2/7 | Bit of Luck 7/7 | Agile Feet 7/7

"No preferences on my part. That being said, we should be careful. I can only call on Desna's healing grace one more time today before she tells me to bugger off." Andrezi says with an uncomfortable chuckle.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stone-Lord) 4 HP 48/48 | AC 19 T 11 FF 18 (DR 2 / Adamantine, Light Fortification)| Fort+8 Ref +2 Will+7 | Initiative +1 | Perception +11 | Stone-Strike 4/4, Lay on Hands 3/3, Defensive Stance 8/8

I follow into the room and stop at the first door I come to, I raise my shield in the usual manner and get ready to open the door. Once everyone is in position and ready I do so. "We don't want to anger or upset your lady, hopefully I will be able to prevent anything getting passed, to attack you all. Kols' restorative powers are also running low at the moment, so hopefully there won't be too many large fights before we venture downstairs."

M Dwarf H:v Alchemist 5 | HP 27/32 | AC 16 T 12FF 16 | Fort+6 Ref +6 Will+6 | Initiative +2 | Perception+9| Diplm+6 | Appraise+9 | MWBattleaxe Melee +4 Attack bonus, 1d8+1, crt x3 ; CMD 14; 1185 gp 19sp

"Agreed, we do have potions and such, that may help. But, we still haven't come across that thing that they had drawn on the walls," Volkar looked about the room. "The ceiling here seems a bit too small for such a large goblin."

Volkar moved behind Daelric.

Female Human Wizard (Exploiter) 8 | HP 54/54 | AC 13 T 13 FF 11 | Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +7 | Initiative +2 | Perception +10 | Arcane Reservoir: 7/11 | Pearls of Power: 1st—1/1 2nd—1/1

"If this is really an old Thassilonian structure, it may be that there was a whole statue, of which the top part that we were on before was the head. So there could be rooms all through the statue. There's no telling how far down it goes. If the head was... let's say a hundred feed across... by scale the body area would be um... three hundred feet across by about three hundred fifty up and down? Just at a guess. Plenty of space," says Kiera.

"But would the Thassilonian's have been associated with the Hellbrood that we have run into in that vile temple?" Volkar asked as he got into position behind the paladin.

Female Human Wizard (Exploiter) 8 | HP 54/54 | AC 13 T 13 FF 11 | Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +7 | Initiative +2 | Perception +10 | Arcane Reservoir: 7/11 | Pearls of Power: 1st—1/1 2nd—1/1

"Maybe... knowledge about the Thassilonians is fragmentary, but I don't think they were really concerned with the morality of their magic," says Kiera. "A lot of this seems recent, so I guess they've converted this old structure to their own use."

M Dwarf H:v Alchemist 5 | HP 27/32 | AC 16 T 12FF 16 | Fort+6 Ref +6 Will+6 | Initiative +2 | Perception+9| Diplm+6 | Appraise+9 | MWBattleaxe Melee +4 Attack bonus, 1d8+1, crt x3 ; CMD 14; 1185 gp 19sp

"Daelric, let's see what's behind this first door," Volkar said and then turned his head back to Kiera. "I think we may need to find out more about the Thassilonian's in the future. Especially if we keep finding their fingerprints about us."

Female Human Wizard (Exploiter) 8 | HP 54/54 | AC 13 T 13 FF 11 | Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +7 | Initiative +2 | Perception +10 | Arcane Reservoir: 7/11 | Pearls of Power: 1st—1/1 2nd—1/1

"I'd love to - I've studied the language a bit - but knowledge is pretty fragmentary. When their empire was destroyed, it ruined so much of their buildings and their records that we have very little to go on. I guess a wealthy sage in Magnimar might have a trove of books, but that's not the kind of thing you just share with anyone, right? And you could perhaps use magic to peer into the past, but there's a limit to how far back you can peer, and divination is sometimes unreliable anyway," says Kiera. "I'd love to know more about them but it's hard to get information! That's also why all of this is so exciting!"

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

The team assembles on the door, then Daelric reveals a sight that will never ever be able to be unseen. Dozens of ratty cushions, lumpy pillows, and rumpled dogskin furs lie heaped in the south half of this chamber, which smells of a nauseating mixture of vinegar and rotten flowers.

Also within the room are four obviously female goblins. They "wear" scraps of cloth sown together to reveal more skin than it actually covers, like some perverted and warped mind once tried to remember the diaphanous silks of a pillow dancer and badly reproduced it with poorly tanned hide scraps soaked in excrement.

The goblins shriek out in fear and anger as the dwarf bursts into the room, and cower against the far wall.

Female Human Wizard (Exploiter) 8 | HP 54/54 | AC 13 T 13 FF 11 | Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +7 | Initiative +2 | Perception +10 | Arcane Reservoir: 7/11 | Pearls of Power: 1st—1/1 2nd—1/1

Kiera backs away slowly.

I quickly slam the door shut and shake my head in both disgust and as if trying to erase the scene from my mind. "Err, not that room. Let's try the next one."

M Dwarf H:v Alchemist 5 | HP 27/32 | AC 16 T 12FF 16 | Fort+6 Ref +6 Will+6 | Initiative +2 | Perception+9| Diplm+6 | Appraise+9 | MWBattleaxe Melee +4 Attack bonus, 1d8+1, crt x3 ; CMD 14; 1185 gp 19sp

"By the forge, there are things a dwarf just doesn't need to see," Volkar said while shaking his head from side to side. "I don't disagree that we try another room, but would be better if we some how lock them into the room or bar it close. Even a female goblin has teeth and claws."

Male Varisan Human Cleric (Varisian Pilgrim) of Desna 5 | HP 36/36 | AC 18 T 13 FF 15 | Fort+6 Ref +5 Will +9 (+10) | Initiative +3 | Perception +4 | Channel Energy 2/7 | Bit of Luck 7/7 | Agile Feet 7/7

"I think I may need to wash my eyes with holy water..." Andrezi says shuddering.

Female Human Wizard (Exploiter) 8 | HP 54/54 | AC 13 T 13 FF 11 | Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +7 | Initiative +2 | Perception +10 | Arcane Reservoir: 7/11 | Pearls of Power: 1st—1/1 2nd—1/1

"Okay, so, that happened," says Kiera with a shiver. "Let's bar the door and see what else we can find."

M Dwarf H:v Alchemist 5 | HP 27/32 | AC 16 T 12FF 16 | Fort+6 Ref +6 Will+6 | Initiative +2 | Perception+9| Diplm+6 | Appraise+9 | MWBattleaxe Melee +4 Attack bonus, 1d8+1, crt x3 ; CMD 14; 1185 gp 19sp

Volkar looked at the closed door and tried to see if there was any key hole that might be associated with a key on the key ring he scoped up in the prison guard's work bench.

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

LMAO!!! Thank you! I was wondering how you would react to the goblin harem, and you did not disappoint in the least!! I am rolling!! Yall are great!! I wish I could have seen that around a table!

Daelric quickly slams the door shut, his earthy dwarven color tinged with a bit of green. The party all reacts with disgust, trying to bar the door to prevent a more prolonged exposure to the hideous sight.. Eventually they manage to do so, but soon enough pounding and muffled yells can be heard from within.

Daelric moves over to the third door, praying for something to erase the previous images from his mind. His prayers are answered, but not by any benevolent god. The walls of this room are lined with small wooden cages. Inside each cage is a dirty mound of straw, occupied by a screeching and scrabbling goblin child. They claw at the cages and throw their tiny little bodies against the bars trying to get to you as you stand aghast in the doorway. Feral hatred gleams in their eyes as gaping maws drip anticipatory saliva.

In addition to figuring out where to go next, you now have (or might have) a moral quandary as well. You have 4 very pissed off wives locked inside of one room, and a room full of goblin children next door. (By the way, this is normal goblin parenting..) What are you going to do? Kill them? Leave them all to starve and rot after you kill off the rest of the occupants of Thistletop? Leave for now and finish them off later?

Female Human Wizard (Exploiter) 8 | HP 54/54 | AC 13 T 13 FF 11 | Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +7 | Initiative +2 | Perception +10 | Arcane Reservoir: 7/11 | Pearls of Power: 1st—1/1 2nd—1/1

FIRE.

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stone-Lord) 4 HP 48/48 | AC 19 T 11 FF 18 (DR 2 / Adamantine, Light Fortification)| Fort+8 Ref +2 Will+7 | Initiative +1 | Perception +11 | Stone-Strike 4/4, Lay on Hands 3/3, Defensive Stance 8/8

I sigh loudly, "First it's ... it's ... you know THAT! Then we come across children ... I'm starting to feel like the villain now, attacking their home."

Female Human Wizard (Exploiter) 8 | HP 54/54 | AC 13 T 13 FF 11 | Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +7 | Initiative +2 | Perception +10 | Arcane Reservoir: 7/11 | Pearls of Power: 1st—1/1 2nd—1/1

"They attacked our home first! Remember the poor man half-stuffed in the closet with his throat cut? And the melted glass workers?"

M Dwarf H:v Alchemist 5 | HP 27/32 | AC 16 T 12FF 16 | Fort+6 Ref +6 Will+6 | Initiative +2 | Perception+9| Diplm+6 | Appraise+9 | MWBattleaxe Melee +4 Attack bonus, 1d8+1, crt x3 ; CMD 14; 1185 gp 19sp

"I agree with Daelric, had this been an attacking horde, then yes, these may be fair game," Volkar sighed along with Daelric. "What about a sleep spell for everyone and then we release them to go back to what ever clan they belong to?"

Male Varisan Human Cleric (Varisian Pilgrim) of Desna 5 | HP 36/36 | AC 18 T 13 FF 15 | Fort+6 Ref +5 Will +9 (+10) | Initiative +3 | Perception +4 | Channel Energy 2/7 | Bit of Luck 7/7 | Agile Feet 7/7

"Normally I'm not the bloodthirsty sort, but I find myself agreeing with Kiera. If we leave them that's just more that will attack Sandpoint again at a later date. If not Sandpoint perhaps some less well protected village." Andrezi says as sympathetically as he can muster, knowing full and well that swaying the dwarven paladin on the matter will not be an easy task, nor should it be.

"Beside the point that these are not your average run of the mill goblins, these are worshipers of the Mother of Monsters herself for Desna's sake!"

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

2 and 2.. even split. But I am loving the RP.

M Dwarf H:v Alchemist 5 | HP 27/32 | AC 16 T 12FF 16 | Fort+6 Ref +6 Will+6 | Initiative +2 | Perception+9| Diplm+6 | Appraise+9 | MWBattleaxe Melee +4 Attack bonus, 1d8+1, crt x3 ; CMD 14; 1185 gp 19sp

"Not convinced that those females and their brood are worshipers of anything," Volkar pointed at the two closed doors. Volkar sighed and looked back at his colleagues. "I just don't think killing the women folk, probably their entertainment and the goblinkind are in our best interest."

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stone-Lord) 4 HP 48/48 | AC 19 T 11 FF 18 (DR 2 / Adamantine, Light Fortification)| Fort+8 Ref +2 Will+7 | Initiative +1 | Perception +11 | Stone-Strike 4/4, Lay on Hands 3/3, Defensive Stance 8/8

I have spent ages trying to come up with a good argument, but have failed to do so. So will just see what my hands type.

I nod at Andrezi, "I can see where your logic comes from, but doesn't your lady value freedom and luck? I can see many gamblers following her and would it not be the ultimate gamble to leave these 'women and children' and try to arrange a peaceful situation? I remember being told that your lady likes to experience new things and would this not be a new experience for you to share with her?"

Male Varisan Human Cleric (Varisian Pilgrim) of Desna 5 | HP 36/36 | AC 18 T 13 FF 15 | Fort+6 Ref +5 Will +9 (+10) | Initiative +3 | Perception +4 | Channel Energy 2/7 | Bit of Luck 7/7 | Agile Feet 7/7

"Your understanding is essentially correct, if incomplete. Yes, the Song of the Spheres delights in new experiences, but not all new experiences are good. I give you what is behind that door as an example. " the priest says with a smile point toward the harem door.

"I am not opposed to a gamble or two at times, but when the lives of townsfolk are wagered against the thin proposition of these goblins to grow up to be something other than what their parents are is not a good gamble."

Male Dwarf Paladin (Stone-Lord) 4 HP 48/48 | AC 19 T 11 FF 18 (DR 2 / Adamantine, Light Fortification)| Fort+8 Ref +2 Will+7 | Initiative +1 | Perception +11 | Stone-Strike 4/4, Lay on Hands 3/3, Defensive Stance 8/8

You are making this really hard! Good roleplay, but difficult!

"So you're saying that your lady would be happy for you to kill women and children, based solely on what they were born as?"

Male Varisan Human Cleric (Varisian Pilgrim) of Desna 5 | HP 36/36 | AC 18 T 13 FF 15 | Fort+6 Ref +5 Will +9 (+10) | Initiative +3 | Perception +4 | Channel Energy 2/7 | Bit of Luck 7/7 | Agile Feet 7/7

"Happy may be a bit of a stretch, Daelric. Using the information we have before us...Lamashtu worship, implicit in the raid on Sandpoint, general goblin behavior, etc...as unsavory as it may be, I really believe that it is the lesser of two evils." Andrezi says, trying his best explain his thought process.

"As a paladin I know much of what you see is black and white, but this is not a black and white situation, my friend."

Female Human Wizard (Exploiter) 8 | HP 54/54 | AC 13 T 13 FF 11 | Fort +4 Ref +5 Will +7 | Initiative +2 | Perception +10 | Arcane Reservoir: 7/11 | Pearls of Power: 1st—1/1 2nd—1/1

"Look, let's reason out the likely results of various actions," says Kiera, taking the logically deductive stance that wizards tend to favor. "If we do nothing to them then when we have finished wrecking house on this place these goblins will have to flee - they will have no way to survive by themselves - and, assuming the mothers don't abandon the young, they will likely wind up getting absorbed into some other goblin tribe. Maybe enslaved, maybe brought on as part of the harm for some other goblin leader. Maybe eaten by things that are more dangerous than goblins out here in the hinterlands. If their young survive they'll just grow up to be more goblins - probably with a special hate for Sandpoint, since after all we did invade their home and put their tribe to sword and flame. After they tried to do the same to Sandpoint, of course, but who counts in those grudge situations? They just keep going on forever."

"Now if we execute them as enemies of Sandpoint, then we've eliminated one potential threat, but yeah, it's squirrely. We can't prove that one of these won't grow up to be... I dunno, the first goblin paladin or something. But they are effectively enemies in wartime. Their people invaded our home town and barring any outside interference they'd grow up to be enemies, too."

"The alternative is to intervene in their development and try to acculturate them, to teach them to be 'better,' to try to get them to work with humans. I doubt you'll get the goblin-wives on board with that; we shanked their husband and wrecked their home. Maybe you can teach the kids. I dunno. But that basically means giving up your quest to protect Sandpoint by fighting its enemies and becoming a full-time goblin-daddy. Basically if you say we shouldn't kill them but we want to try to make them not grow up to be enemies of Sandpoint, someone has to wind up in charge of them and parenting them and trying to give them guidance and education. If you think you can convince Ilsoari Gandethus to take on four goblin children as orphans at the Turandarok Academy and get him to try to raise them... well, you're more persuasive than I."

"I don't like it either, but we don't live in a perfect world."

"If you can't stomach killing them, then leave them behind. Unbar the door when we finish doing whatever needs doing here and let them go out into the woods to find a new place to live. Maybe you've just made the next goblin chief that will threaten Sandpoint in twenty years... but we can't know the future."

Volkar listened to the debate and particularly Kiera's set of points. He didn't like options that debated the future that was still unknown and uncertain. But, he could understand her point and Andrezi's point which was similar.

"I would like to think that maybe we can find a different path. I say we bar the door and we keep cleaning this place out. That when we are done, and presuming we survive the ordeal, we let these find a new clan. Maybe we give the women specific things that reflect our letting them flee. But, I don't believe we need to kill younglings because of the threat that they may pose fifteen years from now." Volkar sighed heavily as he paused for a moment. "We need to find the driving force behind all of this, and I don't believe it was a Goblin king riding a climbing lizard. There is a lot of what has occurred that just doesn't lend to that goblin being the master mind of all of this.

"No doubt, someone else is influencing these goblins - the woman that Tsuto was infatuated with, I think, seems to play a big part in all of this," says Kiera. "So we need to stop her before we really commit to doing anything about the surviving goblins."

I look to everyone, "Both are good arguments and I can see the danger in letting them live, I just don't think I could kill them for living. They haven't done anything to us other than screech and hiss. But let us continue on and decide what to do once the area is safe."

Was looking to see if my Drawback kicks in, but I haven't been threatened or accused of anything, so all good.

Volkar looked about for some means of securing the nursery door.

Sorry about that guys. Picked up a nasty virus that made it through my firewall and virus protection. All fixed now, though!

Wow! Yall really took this to heart. Awesome job, and amazing RP! Deal with it later, it is.

The team closes the door on the snarling and clawing goblin children, leaving this quandary for another day.. should they survive! They then choose the door at the end of the room, opening to a small hallway. Through the next door, crates, barrels, and mounds of miscellaneous refuse lie heaped against the walls.
