Rig spins on his heel as he hears the goblin behind him. He runs full speed hoping to catch the goblin by surprise.

Floredana gives Colvyn another bit of luck.

Rig Charges the goblin facing Cade. Hey, that was Cade's goblin! :) Yes, that confirms (just). You forgot to roll for your extra damage on a crit:
crit damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Rig's scimitar takes the goblin in the throat just as it turns to face him. The goblin falls in a spray of blood!

knight stabilize: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 4 = 9
dog stabilize: 1d20 + 2 - 8 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 8 = 14

Round 4 Initiative:

Floredana
Laurana

Cade (-6)
Goblins: Purple (-10, dying), Red (-9, dying), Orange
Kargas (-9)

Colvyn and Cade are up. FYI there is only one goblin left standing, but he is currently hiding in the wagon and you do not have a shot. If you like you may ready a shot in case he becomes visible. Just roll it like a normal attack.

Cade move up along the side of the building keeping an eye towards it to make sure no more goblins catch him by surprise. He tries to keep the tent between him and the wagon that holds a goblin.

"All dead?" The goblin pops up, looking over the edge of the wagon, bow drawn. "The gods answered my- urkhlgg" Colvyn's shot takes the goblin in the neck and he flops back down in the wagon, twitching.

Combat Over.

The guardsmen begin finishing off the downed goblins.
If for some reason you want any goblins alive, speak up now.

"Any of you feel like joining the town guard?" one of the guardsmen asks. "We could use guys like you."

Revival of the Runelords Slideshow

Looking over the bodies for loot, you mainly find the same assortment of goblin gear; leather armor, dogslicers, and shortbows.

The goblin knight had a horsechopper of masterwork quality, though it is still of goblin make. He also had studded leather armor instead of regular leather.

Furthermore, he also has a potion.

The goblin who was hiding in the tent also has two potions, a tanglefoot bag, and a set of thieves' tools.

Laurana identifies the potions as:

  • cure moderate wounds
  • cure light wounds
  • jump

8d20 ⇒ (19, 18, 7, 11, 6, 19, 18, 11) = 109
There is also 109 silver pieces and 20 gold pieces between them.

There are also a lot of weird odds and ends, such as:

  • A clay jar full of brine-soaked animal eyes, probably mostly from small rodents
  • A lock of brown hair tied to a dried dog's paw
  • A stuffed raven
  • Another live toad
  • A small grappling hook (but no rope)
  • A cowbell
  • A big fuzzy spider in a small cage
  • Three more empty insect cages
  • A child's doll with the eyes taken out
  • A brass locket (worth 10 sp) with a picture of a dignified-looking woman in it; a mustache has been drawn on her face

The well dressed man is still struggling with the black goo that covers his lower legs, and now his hands as well.

"Abadar's Scales, what is this stuff?"

He looks up at the group.

"Well done, brave souls! Perhaps you could, um... help me up? I seem to be stuck."

As the Laac-Irgun's blessing flows out of him, Kargas leans heavily against the side of the wagon, winded. Snapping off one of the arrows and pulling it through with a grunt of pain, he sticks his falchion upright in the dirt and moves to assist the dandy struggling with to stand. "Hold still," the half-orc grunts, gripping him under the arm and hauling him to his feet.

"Thank you for the offer sir, but I must decline. It would likely prevent me from performing my duties in the church. I would like to speak to your captain about any leads he has on how or why this horrible event has come to pass!"

It seems unlikely, but perhaps one of the remaining goblins could tell us something of use... "Leave the one with the horsechopper and that one alive please," She says, pointing to another goblin unconscious on the floor. We may be able to play them off of each other for better information.

Flo walks over to Kargas and the stuck man, showing her Starknife. I pray there is no need for me to use this for a while... "Are you wounded sir? If everyone gathers around, I can close some of the wounds you have all sustained."

Once everyone has gathered around and the selected goblins are bound, gagged, and disarmed, she raises her hand. A wave of light flows forth from the butterfly on the back of her hand.

The goo on his legs is from a tanglefoot bag. Strictly speaking you need to make a STR check or use a blade to cut him loose, but you are able to do either, so I will assume you do.

"My good man, thank you! Thank you indeed!" The dandy beams. He turns to the others. "In fact, thank you all! Those nasty creatures had me for sure, were it not for your arrival!"

"But let me introduce myself. I am Sir Aldern Foxglove, Lord of Foxglove manor." He bows deeply. "I currently reside in Magnimar... I was just in town for the festival. Which was sadly ruined by these rotten vermin!"

"I am not without means, I assure you, and I never forget my friends!"

As the healing washes over him he grins again. He looks over at Floredana.

"Thank you again! I say... I don't think I've ever seen anyone quite like you before. I saw you running about the battlefield, and it seemed that whatever you touched was covered in butterflies. What was that? If you don't mind my asking."

"In fact, I imagine a lot of people will want to talk to you now. After what you did here today, you'll be pretty famous."

The guardsmen begin to hog-tie the goblins you indicated to take as prisoners.

Laurana was happy to identify the potions, it was the least that she could do as her somewhat paltry martial skills had failed her in this fight.

She ignored the guard's remark about the watch looking for volunteers as she was sure it was not aimed at her.

As the others started talking about drinks and tailors, she started to back away, again. In a somewhat timid voice, "Um, excuse me, what do you want to do with this stuff?" She indicated to the spoils that the goblins had. "I am happy to keep an inventory if you like and we can split it later if you want?" She then stuffs the potions in her bag along with some of the creepy items that might be used as spell components later.

"Excuse me, I must be going now. I have friends and family to check on." If no one stops her and if there is no more sounds of battle, she will dash off to check on her parents.

Flo grins with pride when Aldern mentions her abilities. "I am a cleric of Desna, when I utilize her blessings they typically manifest in ways pleasing to her."

She glances at the people who are hopefully new friends before continuing. "We would be more than happy to share your company sir!" The more the merrier! My friends seem to be multiplying by the minute!

"If my friends will join me, you may tell the captain we will call on him in the morning. I think there has been plenty of excitement for one day!"

Once the locals begin to clear out a little, she turns to the group. Her face is unusually serious. "These goblins. They may know something we can share with the captain about these attacks. Would anyone care to join me in the interrogation?"

Cade watches as the stupid Goblin stands up in the wagon and gets put down with an arrow in the neck.
Come on...Really you could have shot him before I ran all the way up here..
He looks over at Colvyn and smiles.
That was a nice shot though.

As the guard ask if they are interested in joining the local guards.
I thank you for your offer but I must decline...wool makes me chafe something fierce. Do not get me wrong, I would make the uniform look good but all that itching would put a damper on my ability to do my duty.
He looks up at the guard and smiles.

Cade sheathes his weapons and takes off his traveling coat. looking at the hole and blood on the back of the coat and holding it out for all to see, he lets out a sigh.
Korvosian Satin....Mistress Denelle is going to be furious with me....It will take weeks to fix it...at least.
He then feels a cold draft on his back and look over his shoulder and down his back to see lots of blood dripping down his armor and shirt.
Well that is not good. That might even leave a scar....
Then the magical energies wash over him and he smiles again
Thank you Flo. Your timing is impeccable.

He looks over at Kargas as the magical healing knits his flesh back up
How are you doing big guy?

Accepting that pat on the back from Rig
I got the first round..sure no problem. Off to the Rusty Dragon then.

The guard mentions them being famous...
I already am famous....well OK..maybe well known...Damn I can even say that with a straight face...

When Lord Foxglove mentions about the tailor and drinks Cade brightens up and smiles.
I heard that and that too. Lord Foxglove would you care to join us at the Rusty Dragon for a drink or four as you tell us.. He points to himself and Rig about your tailor friend?

As Laurana points to the items that were taken from the goblins. He smiles broadly
I once heard a story about Cowbells
Cowbell.
and then his face saddens and turns angry.
The other items I do not care about, but these I will dispose of properly.
Cade picks up the jar of Halfling toes and the Halfling corset. Placing the jar in a belt pouch and tucking the corset in to his belt, Cade looks off in the distance for few moments. As Laurana turns to leave Cade tries to stop her.
My Lady, I would not venture out into the city alone. Lord Foxglove is living proof that it is not safe and he got lucky with us coming by. Let us check in on your friends and loved ones together.

With the talk turning to interrogation...
Well it is true that we need information and they may be willing to give it to us but we have more pressing concerns... like drinking like making sure the city is secured and all are safe. Maybe we can have the guards place the goblins in two different cells away from each other. They are locked up and we can move on to help check on those that are in need. Later we can meet up at the Rusty Dragon.

The party travels back through the town square. While there KArgas is able to retrieve his bag.

The goblin corpses are still there, though it looks like their pouches have been cut and no coins are found.

However, the one goblin who was on the roof still has some interesting things. His chest is smoldering and clearly something volatile was on his person when he landed. But he still has three intact acid flasks, two vials of alchemist's fire, and two potions, which Colvyn identifies as potions of cure light wounds.

Laurana reaches her parents house. Her family is rattled but fine.

"Well, what do we have here?" says Ameiko, the owner of the Rusty Dragon, as the heroes return for some relaxation and revelry.

"From all the blood, I'd say you were in the thick of things. What'll you have?"

After the Battle.

With his Arrow putting down the last goblin, Colvyn looks around the battlefield. He was about to use his magic to heal himself when the blue lady offered to channel some healing energy. Once she is done, he gets next to her. Ok, let's try to say something smart. You have to make it up from being rude earlier. "Th-Thanks." He then walks away as fast as his little legs can carry him. Stupid, stupid, stupid... He stays away from the rich human. With his lack of social skills he prefers to let the others do the talking. When everyone agrees to head to the inn, he follows the group.

At the inn

Entering the inn, Colvyn looks for a stool that would allow him to sit comfortably at the table. He stays mostly quiet at the table, preferring the slowly sip on the wine and eating lightly.

There's something about free drinks that sets an entertainers heart afire, Rig muses as he places his order. "Hmm, that ice wine sounds delightful."

As the evening rolls along, he (and Cade, I assume) puts together an impressive narrative, where every goblin is a herculean foe, dripping blood and saliva from their maw. Most of the assembled people realize that the story is a bit tongue in cheek, but the "ooo's" and "aaah's" all come along at the appropriate time. Kargas plays a special part in striking down the leader of the horde, but no one is left out.

He looks over at the half-orc and smile at him
It is a sweet mead and very, very tasty. Lord Vincent de Londres has been making mead for as long as I can remember. He knows his mead.

hearing about the wine offered to Laurana.
Ohh you will like the ice wine if you enjoy Elven wines as much as I do. The grapes from the Arsmeril region have an undertone of earthiness and the wine itself is a smooth, seductive, red blend that caresses you with every sip. The seamless, lustrous blend of Pinot Noir, Malbec and Petite Sirah glides gracefully across your palate like silk.....
Cade stops and looks around as his new companions stare at him
What...I like my drink....
He laughs a little...
Lady Kaijitsu, Could you also bring me some Rose water and cloths. A bath may not be an option at the moment but still I would like to clean up as best as I can. I like to keep up the appearance of good upbringing.

As the others sit down, Cade looks at each in turn.
Well a fine bunch we are. The six of us were until this day, total strangers to one another. Adversity makes strange bedfellows, at least that is what my grandfather would say. He used to tell me stories of Sandpiont and some of the trouble he got into here. I never thought that I would be involved in such trouble myself....Anyways... I am Cade Goodbarrel, brewer and Tavernmaster and...this is Flo and Kargas. The three of us had just met a little bit before meeting you guys. If we are going to be associated with one another, then we should at least know each other. So please tell everyone about your self.

After each has at least given their name..
Hmmm Well it is a pleasure to meet each of you...the six of us will become household names soon enough...hmm six of us...To the Sandpoint six.
Cade hold up his glass in a toast.

The way you guys drink, I do not think I could afford to go to the colleges of Oppara. Besides I may look good but I can not sing to save my life.
Cade laughs again.

Colvyn listens to the tale that Rig spins for the crowd. Funny, that's not exactly what I remember. During the story, the elf sitting at the table starts talking to him. A bit surprise, he looks at her. "Yeah, um, same here." He tries to say more, but he seems to have tripped over his own tongue.

Later on, the halfling start introducing himself in a more complete way. Cade Goodbarrel... I need to start remembering their name. Might be useful in the future. When it come to his turn, Colvyn has a bit of hesitation but still manage to speak up. "I'm Colvyn Dashtail, like I said earlier. And, um, I'm a priest of Erastil, once the bow! I did my training in Harse and my first assignment was in the Ashwood. Then I was sent here for the opening of the cathedral. That's pretty much it"

When Flo gets her mug, she downs half of it before speaking again. She particularly enjoys the tale spun about their events. I've never been part of such a grand tale before!

Her ears perk up when Colvyn mentions Erastil. "A priest you say! What a pleasure it is to be in the company of another devouted to the gods. What drew you to pledge your life to his cause?" That explains his awkwardness! So much time in the woods doesn't typically lend to a lot of practice socializing. We shall have to practice! Inwardly beaming at the idea and with perhaps a little too much to drink, she only catches most of what Colvyn has to say in response.

Laurana listened with attention as Cade and Rig spun their tale. When it was over, she was starry-eyed and applauded maybe a little too vigorously. Master Rig, that was brilliant." She offers by way of compliment.

When it is her turn to introduce herself, "I am Laurana Kanan, I have a longer, elven name but that is what most call me, so you may too. I am a historian and budding mage. Or at least I like to think so." The thought of bragging startles her and she hides behind her goblet as she takes a too long of a sip.

Rig beams at the compliment. "I believe it is fate that has thrown us together. I am most glad to meet you all."
Looking a little more serious, he says in a low voice, "Tomorrow, we will investigate what brought these brigands to this town, but tonight," he says, voice raising, "is for celebration!"
He bows to a young lady, takes her by the hand, and proceeds to dance her around the room.

"So we have a connoisseur in the house! I find ice wine a little sweet for my taste - I prefer my drink to be bracing."

"So some ale, mead, and ice wine. Coming up! Oh, and some rose water. That might take a couple minutes."

A handsome and elaborately dressed blond man comes in the front, looking around.
"Are they here?" he says as he looks around. His eyes settle upon the party.

"Aha!"

He strides up to the table where the party is gathered.

"Do I have the pleasure of addressing the group of strangers that turned the goblin raid into a rout?"

He grins.

"Word is already spreading, you see. But allow me to introduce myself. I, am Cyrdak Drokkus, master thespian, and if I do say so myself, the Finest Thespian on the Lost Coast, and also the most humble, I might add."

Cyrdak doffs his hat and bows deeply and floridly.

"It would be my Great Honor to join you tonight and hear the tales of your exploits, and I wish to offer my heartfelt thanks for your deeds today. Such deeds are an inspiration to me, as I seek to portray the noblest qualities of heroes in their search for adventure and acclaim."

"I may in fact write a play concerning today's events. It is certain to be a hit!"

"Ah, Cyrdak Drokkus, my good man! Wonderful!" smiles Aldern as the thespian walks up. He turns to the group. "Cyrdak runs the theatre troupe that plays the Sandpoint Theatre. He's quite famous. They know his name in Magnimar."

Adern turns back to Cyrdak. "We met at a party at the Valdemar estate. Perhaps a year ago, as I recall. You did The Murder of Gonzago. Smashing, really. Quite smashing."

...hmm six of us...To the Sandpoint six.

"The Sandpoint Six! Hear hear," Sir Aldern laughs and raises his glass again. "Yes indeed, to the Sandpoint Six! Called upon by Desna herself, through her beautiful messenger Floredana, to avenge the broken peace of her holy day! They drove back the goblins and rescued Sandpoint's most notable visitors!" He drinks deeply from his glass, as do most of those in the tavern.

Cyrdak deftly pulls a mug of ale off a serving wench's tray as she walks by. "To the Sandpoint Six indeed!"

He drinks deeply from the mug, and then rubs his chin. "The Sandpoint Six. Catchy. That might do for a title!"

Kargas nods along with Rid and Cade's story, grinning whenever his name is mentioned and darting glances over to Ameiko to gauge her response. His eye twitches a bit as the halfling waxes poetical about wine, muttering "You lot talk more than goblins, and make almost as little sense."

As the toasts ring out he takes a draught but his expression is clearly skeptical. "The...Sandpoint Six? I don't think we even know each others' names, I'm just hear to kill something big." The young half-orc is a little confused by all this, the celebrations back home were a bit different.

"It is a pleasure to meet you all!" She says warmly. Before she can get much else out, Cyrdak and Aldern begin their rant.

Me? In a REAL play? Her eyes grow wide with shock and she reaches for another mug. What's going to happen next?!

Despite her blue skin, Flo blushes deeply when Aldern recites his version of the story, putting her as the focal point of the event. "Lord Aldern, you honor me! It took all of us to save the town though." MAYBE MY FAMILY WILL SEE THE PLAY TOO!

Needing a break from the overwhelming excitement, she turns in her seat towards Kargas. "Speaking of killing something big, we agreed that if you accompanied me to the festival, I would help you investigate the Sandpoint Devil. I can't see your side of the deal any less than fulfilled after what we did today! Still interested in working together to take it down?"

As the conversations swirled about her, Laurana drunk it all in. So this is what it feels like? Interesting. She continued to watch her new friends and their fans with deep interest.

Kargas shrugs at the ratfolk's question. "Dunno, that's why she's helping me find out about it. Some sort of monster that's a local legend, I'm gonna find it and kill it. Or maybe something else, doesn't really matter I think."

"Ah, so our brave heroes are on a quest already! How marvellous! I can tell you that I've heard many stories of that dread beast."

He steps up and begins to pantomime with grand gestures.

"It prowls the Lost Coast on moonless nights, when the mist and sea fog is thick. No one sees it come and go, though it has been said to be a thief of livestock, small children, and lonely travelers on the Lost Coast Road. All that is found remaining are bloody patches of skin. They say to see it it to be stuck blind, with blood running from your eyes. No one is sure what it looks like, but many have heard its baying on the moors, or coming from the islands in the fog offshore."

Cyrdak leans close and speaks quietly to the party.

"They say there was a witch who lived nearby that made a bargain with a devil. But she tried to go back on her word. Not wise to do that with a devil. So she was cursed, and gave birth to this horrible monster - The Sandpoint Devil! The devil bit off her arms and legs, but kept her in its lair and now keeps her alive with offerings from its bloody kills."

"Hmph," says Ameiko, overhearing as she waits on nearby tables.

"I heard that it's a wizard-warped beast that was created long ago, from a forgotten time. Perhaps from old Thassilon. It spent many years imprisoned, but was inadvertently released by some foolish treasure hunters."

"Well, I'm sure the truth will turn out to be... whatever story is the most entertaining! As always! Ha ha!"
