I admit it's finnicky, and I'm not sure that this will work, because I haven't tried it with an account other than the one I created it with.
There should be a point that the cursor changes to a five fingered hand (Instead of the pointing one) that's the one to move it.
Don't worry if it doesn't work, the map's just a suggestion, and from the last round, I don't think these thugs are going to last long.

Updated the TREASURE LIST.
I recommend someone takes the bow. If no one does, then Edgar will carry it just in case it comes into use.
Purplefixer |
Sorry! Yeah, Eaton takes a MWK studded leather and a scimitar. Marked them on the character sheet.
I noticed that -WE DON'T HAVE A PRIMARY COMBATANT-. No fighters, rangers, paladins, barbarians, cavaliers... No one with primary attack bonus. That makes -Eaton- the tank!?
O.O
Someone get Tellar some medium armor, quick!
DM Rennick |
A reminder (actually can't remember if I ever asked for this)
Include the following info at the top of your posts: the round, your AC, your current HP, your saves, your init.
Also, please make sure your profiles are up to date, in case I need more info, or need to roll an atk for you.
Lastly, don't forget to be creative with your writing. I know sometimes people are strapped for time and that's fine, but on the whole it's dull for me as a DM to read "He walks 5 feet and swings his sword" and it has to be just as dull for you guys! This is collaborative storytelling, so don't be afraid to flex those brains a bit!
Edgar Arrowni |
DM Rennick.
If Edgar was going to do something nuts, like maybe jumping off the ledge to the bottom floor (20 ft right?) Are there beds or any thing to land on nearby that could soften the landing or make the falling distance shorter?
DM Rennick |
Sorry for my absence. Got slammed with a flu his weekend. I'll try to update tomorrow.
Eaton- as you said, your turn was before my npcs, so I needed your update
Edgar- it'll be a dc 23 acrobatics check to use the wall to bace your fall, though please wait till round 2 thanks
DM Rennick |
Also Edgar it would only be a DC 14 check to get halfway down (So it'd be on the opposite side of the two pirate lackeys that Tellar and Eaton are on)
Conversely, because they are already half way down, Eaton and Tellar would need a DC 14 acrobatics check to get to the bottom without using their move action.
DM Rennick |
I'm going to try to explain this encounter OOC cause there seems to be a alot of confusion.
the party began twenty feet in the air, on the right side of the cavern, at the tunnel's opening.
Past the opening, the way down doesn't run forward, but rather zigzags along the wall, angling down for ten feet, then crisscrossing back the other way the other ten feet.
This rampway is only 5 feet wide.
So far Tellar has gone down this path, and is now in melee with a pirate. (before round 2)
Eaton has used a full action to move from his place further back in the tunnel, to come to be back to back with Tellar. These two are (basically) at the halfway point where the ramp folds back on itself.
It is possible to circumvent this obstabcle, either with an acrobatics check to go down, or a climb check to go up (Both have been attempted by NPCs and both got gutted for it)
So as it stands, Edgar is in the tunnel entrance at the top, Emilia and Phaedra are RIGHT behind him. Eaton and Tellar are basically in a line with the two cronies (With Eaton and the 2nd pirate unable to engage because of lack of squares.
Sin and Thrakao (The orc) are sprawled at the bottom of the room, with a lot of blood.
and the mage is about ten feet back from the ramp by his desk beside a bird in a cage (The looks very FAMILIAR to Phaedra :p )
Hope this helps
DM Rennick |
Just wanted to make sure you got the hint, :p
And just in case anyone is put off by the NPC help... All I can say is that I've left all rolls up to show it's fair... and be thankful those 20's aren't coming at you!
That said, confusion aside I'm pretty happy with this fight. It's quite harrowing!
DM Rennick |
Something I am trying to include is all the info that you'll need to know if your attacks/actions succeed or fail - it's something new for me so I may forget to include it in my most recent update. sorry for that! Still I will try and include information like that in my most recent update.
Please make use of the the preview button and this information. Write the results whether you miss or succeed! I know this isn't all that standard for most PbPs, but I find it helps keep things flowing more quickly and is more fun and collaborative, which is what I would like for this game.
thanks everyone.

"What use are you to us alive? Where is your medical equipment? Explain the layout of your base and what we can expect. If you value your lives, you'd best start talking..."
"You'd prefer another target; a military target? Then tell us where the rebel alliance is located!"
Intimidate 16 = Pretty damned compelling.
DM Rennick |
Let me see if I understand this right, you both just pranked the DM.... BEFORE he posted the treasure? >.> May I suggest a couple of points to wisdom for either of you.
In a completely unrelated note Edgar's going to find some SWEET Rogue and Divine caster swag, :p
DM Rennick |
I'll list the spells in the spellbook shortly, Does anyone have Detect Magic for me to work out spellcraft checks for items?
And I'm starting to design the Ship and Fleet rules, using the caravan and kingdom rules as a basis. I'd like to know, do you guys see yourselves containing your endeavors to one ship? or building up your own fleet? it'll influence how I build the rules,
DM Rennick |
I would recommend Eaton reconsider his dismissal of the pirate's spellbook. He can still use it to memorize spells he already knew that are in there, though it does take a check to succeed, but if Phaedra has her Raven absorb the spells, the book will be ruined.
Also, I've given the basics for the spellcraft checks, it's up to players to write just what "they see" :D
DM Rennick |
Phaedra, could you write up the in character of your character casting detect magic and trying to determine the items' qualities. For a couple reasons:
- It's an action your character actually has to do, not just a passive thing, so I'd like to see her doing it.
- And while you only met one DC, the act of casting the spell at all would tell you that the Greatsword is magical. Just not what it can do.
Edgar Arrowni |
Ok, we got some stuff, who wants what?
Is there something to shoot the blow darts with, or do we just have the darts? better question, can they be used like normal darts?
Edgar can use the short spear if someone else doesn't want it. If anything, it is something that he can throw.
Edgar Arrowni |
I have a question for you.
I'm not too familiar with the rogue class, and I think I made Edgar a bit too dexterous and skill focused, especially in a group with no primary fighters. When I made the character, I was really focused on the background, and I think the actual build was not as thought through as much as it should have.
With our current group, I realized that we don't have anyone whom is very strong. Me and Eaton are the strongest in the group with a 12. With your permission, I was wondering if I could make the following changes before we get into another fight or gain a level, or before it is too late.
My character adjustments would be this:
Str 16, Dex 16 (+2 human), Con 14, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 8
I'm not much of a fan of low ability scores, but Edgar is a bit self doubting and awkward, so the charisma might make more sense.
With this change, I plan on making Edgar a swashbuckler whom fights as needed, switching between two weapon fighting and 1 weapon fighting as appropriate. Probably will be throwing daggers for ranged, possibly shortbow for long range. Like to stay rogue as long as possible, but might cross class into fighter if the need is high.
I understand if it is too late to make such a change, but I thought I would ask now while the game is still relatively new. The only way I see Edgar, as he is currently, being able to contribute in combat past the first few levels is trying to get sneak attack at every possible opportunity, and I can foresee him getting killed rather quickly... and potential leaves the party vulnerable to attack. The above build has more staying power and can actually handle not getting sneak attacks.
Plus it just feels more swashbuckler like to me. :)
Let me know what you think. Thanks.
DM Rennick |
This has always been a game designed to challenge you with a "use what you find" way. Think carefully about what you abandon.
Edgar Arrowni |
Toughness increases his hp by 3, should I increase both current and total, or just total at the moment?
Here is my recommendations about the stuff:
Shortspear (Keep)
Edgar is going to grab this if no one else minds. Something he can throw at ranged.
Shovel or spade (Keep)
If we can afford to carry this, It could prove useful. never know when a shovel could come in handy.
Ink (1 oz. vial) (Keep)
worth a couple of gold, and not heavy. Keep.
Sealing wax (keep)
Pouch, belt (keep)
Spell Component pouch (keep)
Spellbook (Keep)
Greatsword (Keep)
If Eaton can use this, great. Even if he can't, It might be worth one of us using even if it is non-proficient. It is magical...
Studded Leather Bracers (keep)
Eaton recommended that Edgar takes this, I I don't have a problem with that, but Tellar might make the most use out of it at the moment.
Potion Cure light wounds (x5) (Keep)
I recommend everyone take one of these. That would leave one of us out though. Edgar passed them out to everyone, so he is the one with no healing potion at the moment.
Potion of Cat's Grace. (keep)
one of us should use this when we fight for either a bonus to AC or a bonus to hit with ranged weapons. Maybe give it to Emilia, so her mad bow skills get even better.
Leather Armor (Drop)
each one of us is wearing either leather armor, or Mwk leather armor. drop.
Masterwork Shield, tower (drop)
Like to keep, but far to cumbersome.
Half-plate Armor (Drop)
Like to keep, but far to cumbersome, unless someone can actually wear it. Eaton, if you are proficient with this, then it might be worth it, especially if you are only limited to cantrips at the moment.
Greatclub. (Drop)
Unless someone can use...
Masterwork Darts, blowgun(10) (Drop)
Without the blowgun these aren't that useful. If someone can come up with a good use for them great, otherwise drop.
Gems and Jewels (keep)
pp: 5
Keep
gp: 62
Keep
sp: 560
Keep as may of these as possible.
cp: 5600
Drop. Far too heavy.
I imagine that we would have some pockets in our clothing as well to help with coinage and other small things.
Depending on the situation, we might have an opportunity to return for some stuff before we leave, but be prepared to leave it.
DM Rennick |
In answer to Phaedra's question, Yes you can dismantle the cots and hammocks, I'll be nice and give you 4 pieces of 10 ft. of rope (That since I can't find what PFRPG made Use Rope into, I'll let you combine for free - though you may want to use two of them to bind your captives) the hammocks could be used to make rough sacks, though it'd take a check of some sort.
A Note on Spoiler tags (Or: How to get under your DM's skin) - I understand that players look under spoiler tags, as a player I do it all the time. It's like telling a kid "Don't eat this plate of cookies I'm leaving in front of you!"
However, if you read the tags when you aren't supposed to (Like say: If you haven't cast detect magic and no one has gotten close to the spellcraft DC - or you aren't trained in the skill - ) then you do not get to go at hint or say at what's under the tag. This has been happening in a number of my games and I'm starting to get frustrated with it.
So Eaton - You don't know the sword is an ice sword. Far as I can tell, you've no way of knowing it. The Orc died before he ever activated it. the only reason you know it's magic at all is Phaedra could see its aura with her spell.
Tellar Bronsev |
Question for DM and the group. For the group, would people be ok if I ripped out some blank pages from the captured spellbook? Given the rules on spells per page and spellbooks there should be a good number of empty pages in the spellbook.
If people are cool with that, DM Rennick one of my spells has a material component of "parchment with a holy text written on it". Is this something I can create myself, use pages from the book with the ink and write my own "holy text" as I am an Oracle. Or does this have to be something "official"?
Also, I was actually not given a suit of armor from the last group, there wasn't enough. So I will take one of the ones from this latest group. Otherwise I'm fine with the loot divying Edgar proposed.
Purplefixer |
The Equipment Recommendations: Made totally in character. There's no way for Eaton to know what's magical since he didn't have Detect Magic prepared and now can't prepare it. And since he doesn't have spellcraft trained, that captured book is useless to him until he gets a new level... While I'd love to take the half-plate, Magi aren't actually proficient in heavy armor for many more levels.
The Greatsword: There's NO clue to the function in the form? :( No snowflake on the hilt? No wave pattern in the handwrap? No storm-cloud on the pommel? It doesn't matter if he DOES know it's a +1 Frost Greatsword, without the command word to turn on the frost it's still just a +1 greatsword. Heck, for all Eaton knows it's a cursed back-stabbing weapon, or the d6 frost is going to burn HIM. Hence blindly testing a few commonly used words in commonly magical languages, which is all the know: arcana is good for at the moment. At first level Eaton is a HIGHLY diversified dilettante who doesn't really even do his own job well. He'll be a whole character at second level when he gets rid of some of his blinders and preconceptions about classism and cultural bias.
Edgar Arrowni |
I'm not too familiar with the Magus yet. I had a feeling Heavy armor would be too heavy for the class, but I wasn't sure. Worth the thought though. the penalty from wearing it untrained makes it useless at the moment though. Towershield is better, being that it can be discarded when something needs doing.
I'm sure the Greatsword issue was just an honest mistake while trying to be flavorful, on Eaton's part. I sometimes look at spoilers, (in this case, I did) and I try to immediately make a red flag or mental note that that is out of character knowledge. I'm diffidently a fan of indicators on magic items to hint at their functions, but not all items had them in my campaigns either. Lets all just be doubly careful with in and out of character knowledge or try to not look at spoilers as often, It's easy to get info mixed up in pbp. Nice thing is, if your not sure, it is easy to go back and double check if such knowledge is known or unknown to you character as well.
Tellar: Are you taking the bracers of strength?
DM Rennick |
I'm sorry, that last post came out much harsher and less joking than I intended it to be.
But no, the blade is meant to be very tribal/basic in its appearance. It's a hilt wrapped in leather, a small straight crossguard and the blade made from a dark and unfinished iron.
The in game hint was intended to be when he took an icy swing at you, but Eaton's well placed AoO and the falling damage nixed that before it had a chance, which I'm honestly ok with. :p
I really am ok with my players looking under spoiler tags, but please try to keep your posts limited to your in character knowledge, if you have questions about something you can ask me directly here, or post about your character examining it for clues, if any.
Again though, sorry for snapping.
EatonStarse |
No snapping! :) All's cool!
But no clues in the form as to the function? X( People who craft magical items without appropriate flair should be flogged with over-cooked lasagna and left to wallow in rancid marinara until they learn their lesson! Without kitsch and trite decoration a magic sword may as well be a door-stop! I mean really.... SOME craftsmen have no pride in the work they do. 8000gp, people! Show some panache!
Edgar Arrowni |
Tellar, You are the only character with an odd strength stat. It's not that I don't want them per say, it's that you'll probably get better use out of them. Otherwise Edgar will happily take em.
1) Should Edgar's current hp increase by 3 due to the toughness feat? I left the current hp the same. let me know otherwise.
2)I chose scimitar as my free swashbuckler marital proficiency as it seems more piratey, and Edgar learned to fight as a pirate. However, I understand if that is too convenient as all the mooks here have them, so if this is a problem I have no problem switching over to longsword for the Proficiency.
"I don't know Eaton, I kinda like the simplistic design. Kind of has a savage feel to it..."
DM Rennick |
