Does Trevor simply move two squares south to attack? Or something else?

You can state movement preferences such as move S S, or move S SE, or etc.

Two squares South

Attempting to get a shot off before the brute closes, he raises his musket and fires.

Lazare moves towards the monster What the hell is this thing?!
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 and fails horribly, but he does do his mouse thing and enters the monsters square. It is -4 attack on other PC's and adjacent PC's are flanking. 2/3 Panache.

male Human? pbp GM / 1 current map ; second floor

Somebody give an action for Faradin. I am assuming JP takes his shot before anyone closes with the thing (I generally assume the party acts in the order that gives the best results, such as shooting before the creature is in melee - so let me know if that is not desired).

JP's musket blast hits it hard! But everyone sees the wound close a bit after a moment. Trevor's earthshaker is another story, also hitting hard and there appears to be no regeneration.

Faradin moves up and strikes at the thing with his dueling sword.
Sword,Flank: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 91d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

male Human? pbp GM / 1 current map ; second floor

The slash Faradin makes with his sword is quickly sealed over by regenerating flesh!

(pass a DC20 knowledge dungeoneering or knowledge planes check to realize the nature of the regenerative properties of this thing)

Lazare is scampering over the tumorous, scabbed, oozing flesh, distracting the thing.

Regardless, the thing strikes at Trevor is 1, Faradin 2, Lazare 3: 1d3 ⇒ 3 and goes after Lazare!

attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 4 = 5 and misses!

The players are up! I think the map is updated.

Both the hammer and musket are bludgeoning and piercing, so it has to be something weird.

"As mon chère mère used to say, when all else fails, kill it with fire."

alchemist's fire: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Trevor keeps the hits coming!

Faradin knocks himself in the face!

male Human? pbp GM / 1 current map ; second floor

@ JP - I believe alchemical fire is a splash weapon. The creature is a 2 x 2 square (large); Lazare is on one of the squares.

(see map)

Which square do you target?

as far as weapon damage types, I show an earthbreaker as B only, and I must admit I assumed a musket was piercing (but it shows as B/P, which I don't really get unless the B is when you are clubbing someone?).
And I am looking into what you consider a B/P weapon when an effect is triggered by the P

Lazare, grimaces as the alchemist fire is headed his direction. Easy with that Lord of Cats, I'm not fire proof, yet.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
Lazare continues to dance between the "legs" of this, thing, hoping the thing lets it guard down long enough for the hammer to end things.

male Human? pbp GM / 1 current map ; second floor

Jean Phillipe hits squarely with the alchemist's fire, which does 1d6 damage in the target zone and 1 hit point to all zones around it.

fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6 plus 3 for 3 splash squares, equals 9 pts of fire damage!

Next round, the thing takes another d6 in the target square (the SW square).

Lazare also takes 1 hp of fire damage from the splash.

Trevor gives it a solid whack but Faradin misses.

Lazare stabs it, but the wound heals over quickly.

The thing is horribly damaged, but fights on! It swings at Faradin!

attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 5 - 4 = 18, hitting for damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5!

The tentacle also tries to grab Faradin; grapple: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 11 - 4 = 12, but the tentacle slips off his leg and Faradin gets away with just a nasty slash.

Faradin also needs to make a DC17 fort save.

Players are up. The thing is not in good shape at this point (not that an oozy tumorous tentacle thing is ever in good shape).

Faradin still needs a DC17 fortitude check.

All is quiet in the hallway now.

I'mmm melting! Faradin turns into a puddle of goo

male Human? pbp GM / 1 current map ; second floor

Faradin begins to grow some horrible looking tumors.

He loses charisma: 1d2 ⇒ 2 points and con: 1d2 ⇒ 1 and will need another save later.

Here is my question - since he seems to have abandoned the game, do we bring in a common character such as Giles the Manservant, or keep botting Faradin or ???

I'll poke him again.

male Human? pbp GM / 1 current map ; second floor

The tumor ridden tentacle thing is dead, breaking down into goo in the corridor.

The only part of the this area you have not searched is the door to the north.

If you approach the door, let me know who is first and what you do when you get there.

Trevor goes first! Absolutely nothing will go wrong as he keeps turning around to look behind him and discuss his retirement plans.

male Human? pbp GM / 1 current map ; second floor

In his usual casual, understated manner, Trevor rushes forward and pushes the door open. Behind him, Jean Phillipe looks up from smoothing out his left ruffled cuff and says Should we check for traps first?

The inside of this room is well appointed. It seems to have survived the earthquake mostly undamaged.

Yellow fog soundlessly rolls against the cathedral-like windows of this opulent, two story office. The ground floor features overstuffed furnishings, elegant side tables, and an altar like desk of dark marble. A delicate spiral staircase and balcony of dark iron rises to a lofty library overhead.

Both floors fixtures frame a lake of blood spread across the room's center.

At the center of the pool of blood, a woman kneels, head tilted back, mouth wide in a soundless scream, as an unsteady torrent of colored mist spurts like a fountain of gritty sludge.

map is updated, there is a link to picture in the description of the woman.

Huh...This is weird and I have no idea what is going on. Anyone have a possible clue? Maybe take her back to Winter?

male Human? pbp GM / 1 current map ; second floor

by the way, I re-read my post, and, just to be clear, the fountain of mist is coming from her wide open mouth.

I think I wasn't clear on that in the text.

Anyone want to get a pole and poke her to see if she is still alive? If not I think we should just go around her.

perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

male Human? pbp GM / 1 current map ; second floor

Jean Phillipe detects and observes several things.

First, the woman is radiating magic, as is the smoke wafting from her mouth. It has something to do with summoning, or interdimensional magic.

The blood coming from the woman appears to be leaking from her ears, mouth, and nose, pooling and taking up a 5x5 space in the center of the room. Her eyes glow with an erie blue light. In 5 minutes of observation, you detect no movement of any kind except faint movement of breathing.

No ambush is detected.

There are hundreds of books on the shelves. They would need further study to determine anything there, but nothing is magical.

The desk has paper, mundane, writing supplies and a locked drawer (dc20).

The smoke is a different color than the fog outside.

In the room are many curios, bookends, small statues, and drawers in end tables with stuff in them. These probably have some value, but I presume you are not focusing on them at first.

Finally, JP notices a set of 6 framed charcoal sketches, all roughly the same size; some seem to be torn on one side as if pulled from a sketch book before framing.

They depict endless vistas of an empty city under a sky of swirling mist. They evoke memories of your shared dream with the Tatterman.

The sketches are dated from the last 6 year (1 per year) and have the name Ulver Zandulus in the corner.

Locked drawer, too bad we don't have a sneak thief. Trevor attempts to wrestle open the drawer.

Lazare positions himself behind the woman and creeps forward.

She remains still, colored smoke wafting from her open mouth.

When he gets close (about 5 feet away), he stops moving.......

Lazare needs to make a DC12 will check.

meanwhile, in Lazare's thoughts....

The halfing finds himself in a familiar place, yet one that he dreads. He is crouched and quietly walking down an alleyway. The alley is strewn with bricks and rubble, and yellow fog swirls overhead. Again, a cloud of mist at ground level surges around an intersection behind him. With an overwhelming sense of fear and dread, Lazare takes off running! The fog is always behind him, pursuing. He hears the occasional scrape of metal on brick, as if something hidden in the fog drags a razor across stone every once in a while. It makes Lazare quicken his pace, and he hears laughter behind him for his efforts.

It seems he has run for hours, in the disjointed time sense of dreams or panic, when a wall collapses as he runs past. He skids to a halt. Inside he sees an ancient crone, a Keleshite woman dressed in embroidered robes and gauzy silks. She sits in front of a table, a tea cup in her hand, another on the table in front of her. She gestures to it.

Lazare approaches, pours himself some tea, and drinks. The woman smiles approvingly, then takes the empty cup from the halfing and quickly turns it upside down on a saucer, tapping it three times with her index finger. She lifts the cup and peers at the tea leaves. This time a slight frown crosses her face.

Listen, my young friend. Your past was the sacrifice. There is information near you to tell you more.

Lazare hears the knife drag upon the stone behind him, but he notes the fog does not enter this room

The PCs simply see Lazare standing frozen as we wait for his DC12 will check. I elected to let everyone see what Lazare experiences in his head rather than use PMs and etc to make it all secret....

OK, so the d20 roll is better (but pretty impressive rolling a 7 on a d200).

Lazare freezes about 5 feet from the woman. Trevor studies him as JP begins to systematically loot the pictures.

As Trevor grunts, and then begins to pull out his rope to arrange a rescue, Lazare snaps to and moves backwards. He rubs his eyes and asks, somewhat shakily, what happened? How long was I out?

But it was less than a minute that he was frozen. He relays the dream to you all.

The deep drawer contains many items.

A large bound journal, filled with handwritten notes; it belongs to a Doctor Eliege Losandro (you can spend some time perusing for more info).

A large magnifying glass (non magical).
two vials of alchemist's kindness
a vial of smelling salts (non magical)
two vials of soothe syrup
four doses of antitoxin
2 doses of opium
a scroll of fox's cunning
two hypodermics labeled remove paralysis (as the spell cast by a 7th level cleric)
a candle of spirit protection
a small tin filled with incense of open thoughts
a braided leather cord holding two brass talismans; one a lesser talisman of healing power, and the other a lesser talisman of warrior's courage

Finally, a bag of 200 platinum pieces (worth 1,000 gold).

I dunno if those would work, looks like she has something that can't be cured. Trevor flips through the book. I wonder what these medallions and candles do.
