"Da."

Bescaylie and Efrixes smile and lead you for several miles, flying slowly so that everyone can keep up. After a few hours, you're within sight of Spurhorn. It's an imposing fortress perched high atop a large rocky crag. While you're still quite distant from the structure, you can tell that the army besieging it is massive and includes a multitude of monstrous creatures - in addition to multiple dragons. It seems, in fact, that draconic creatures are quite common on this planet. Fortunately for the defenders, Spurhorn's position is highly defensible, so the attackers seem to have decided on an extended siege - at least, for now.
She crosses her lance across her chest in salute before flying toward the fortress.
Percy Silvershaper |
Well, I guess just cutting through them is out of the question. the still extremely small Percy comments. C'mon Crow. Give me a lift and we can go scope out the situation.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
stealth, added size mod, dex boost: 1d20 + 3 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 11 + 2 = 28
Lyosha Neverhome |
Neverhome hesitates for a moment before he crosses one of his arms against his chest in response to her salute as she and the dragon leave.
"Going on ahead to tell allies nyet to kill us on sight." Neverhome says with a chuckle. "We need to get past Burning Legion, Bescaylie said would show our skill to her allies, she will meet us inside walls. And 'teleport' magic will nyet work."
"Also mentioned Apsu. God-spirit here I guess." he grumbles.

My post happens after Necerhome's
'Silence' |
"cutting through might be possible, it depends on how they have their siege set up. . . But it wont be easy."
He frowned patting Mule's neck.
Sigrun Jagrsdottir |
"It might be, but it would tip our hand and leave us fighting an army on our own. At this point, those in the citadel could just sit there and do nothing. Any damage we do is to their benefit whether they throw in with us or not." Sigrun says considering the situation. "If we can get in and secure an agreement with whoever is in charge, well then anything we do will be quite a surprise."
Lyosha Neverhome |
"So we sneak."
Your Benevolent Dictator |
The besieging army consists of hundreds of draconic creatures, but you also see cyrohydras, summoned daemons, and triaxians. The army is split among three encampments, each positioned about 1/3mi from Spurhorn to the north, southeast, and southwest. There are also several aerial patrols keeping watch over the area. These seem to consist mainly of frost drakes and the occasional flying mage.
Since you're a martial-heavy party, this challenge will likely prove rather difficult, as flight is by far the easiest way to reach Spurhorn. As you'll probably be looking for alternative solutions, I'll mention that the AP assumes three possibilities (help Spurhorn, help the Burning Legion, or remain neutral). With some creativity, you should be able to figure out something, bu fighting your way through an army won't work, so discretion is encouraged. Good luck!
Percy Silvershaper |
Percy takes out a small mirror and focuses on her divine symbol, her changed eye. She then asks the local divination magic to cooperate and casts Augury asking, "Is trying to get through the camp undetected to or benefit?"
I have a 79% chance of success
Sigrun Jagrsdottir |
"If we can come up with a way to make us all invisible, we can fly high overhead as quickly as we can." Sigrun says.
Percy Silvershaper |
Looks like we need the services of our magical merchant then.
Sigrun Jagrsdottir |
Taking out the Obsidian Raven, Sigrun activates the device, sending it off to summon the mercane.
Percy Silvershaper |
We cast the needed spells and walk over the army producing neither sight nor sound.
Percy Silvershaper |
Here goes nothing.
Hopefully...
Your Benevolent Dictator |
You fly silently past several Frost Drake patrols and are almost halfway to the fortress, when you spot a trio of creatures rising toward you. They look like giant horned bears with talons and seem to have no difficulty seeing you.
'Silence' |
"Friends... i think they see us yes yes."
He said from atop Mule drawing his bow and getting ready.
Percy Silvershaper |
Insert this after someone identifies them. I forgot I don't have that skill.
Let me talk to them. Percy says. She rides hobbes and Hila out front and calls to them, Hello, slaves of mortals! I'm here to make your day!
Sigrun Jagrsdottir |
Drawing a throwing axe, Sigrun awaits the approach, and Percy's attempt to communicate.
Hobbes 'Rat Trap' Bitterleaf |
"They don't sound friendly."
Percy Silvershaper |
Percy snorts laughter at the suggestion that they would be devoured. There are, what, 5 or 6 of us. You are currently on the material plane sitting around waiting for a city worth of good slaughter to expire via boredom and the best you can do is threaten a three inch gnome? Tell you what. Let us pass and we'll lead that entire city out here in a blaze of glory. Whichever side wins makes zero difference to me. It'll be the battle you were promised and more.
diplo with a dash of sarcasm and easy confidence: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Percy Silvershaper |
So snap your leash! My word! What are you, devils?
The mortals down there negotiated with you, right? That's what a binding IS. I'm changing the terms, and not even by that much! You let us go, not the other invisible flying things just us, and you get to devour a city. You don't and you will continue to only get scraps from the mortal's table until this tasty city is too beaten to put up much of a fight.
Besides, most of us aren't flying. We're Air Walk-ing. Different spell entirely.
Percy Silvershaper |
bluff, if you think I need it: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Your Benevolent Dictator |
The daemons pause, considering your words, before reaching a decision. <"Promises mean nothing without proof. If one of you surrenders to us, we'll let the rest go. We'd prefer someone young and tender; those ones taste better.">
Still 70ft below you. Also, as a reminder, everyone's invisibility breaks if one person attacks.
'Silence' |
He kept quiet like his namesake and instead of attacking kicked Mule forward even faster if he could.
Percy Silvershaper |
One moment. Percy says. She turns to her companions.
I'll stay. Wrost case scenario, I unleash hell in the middle of their camp. Best case, I get our item before the city attacks and we all quietly abscond while they're busy killing each other. Either way sounds fun.
Hobbes 'Rat Trap' Bitterleaf |
"No way, doll. You heard them. They're gonna eat ya. Or at least try to. I say we end them now."
Percy Silvershaper |
She smiles and pats Hobbes' cheek. We end them now and we'll have half the army and all manner of arrows up here before you can say "bored soldier". Not to mention it'll look bad for those who do make it. Besides, eating me would prove to be a profoundly unpleasant experience. For them.
Hobbes 'Rat Trap' Bitterleaf |
"Yea, but what if you get hurt while yer wastin' them?" Hobbes says with a frown.
Percy Silvershaper |
Percy smiles and hugs his neck. The sooner you deliver, the sooner I'll be back. The hug lingers for a long moment. If Percy is scared she's doing a fantastic job of not letting on.
Hobbes 'Rat Trap' Bitterleaf |
"Fine. Just stay safe."
Sigrun Jagrsdottir |
"I don't like it at all. Not you being in danger or possibly betraying someone I've given my word to. But I'll admit, we face an army now, up here...we probably die." Sigrun says with a frown.
Sigrun Jagrsdottir |
Wisdom check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Her frown intensifying Sigrun shakes her head. "It'll attack anyway. Daemons aren't restricted to keep their word. It said it was 'bound' to attack us so probably under some kind of spell that will force it's actions no matter what it says."
Lyosha Neverhome |
"Da..." Neverhome adds while looking at the tiny fey out of the corner of his eye with some concern.
Percy Silvershaper |
Percy play-scowls at Sigrun. Unsing my own arguments against me, I see. Good point. The question then is how did we lure them high enough to not immediately get turned into pin cousins?
Lyosha Neverhome |
"... want to eat us?"
Percy Silvershaper |
Do you think we can move high enough before they catch up?
Lyosha Neverhome |
"Will nyet know if we just sit here talking."
'Silence' |
Whats the fly speed of Mule right now? and how fast does it appear they are gaining?
