Bran keeps a smile up and hearing Thom's comments toward Seltazar makes him chuckle a little. "We don't know, a few days at most. If the caravan from the Ferry comes you really ought to leave. What do you know about goblins fighting amongst each other? Honestly any information will do." He takes another gulp, "And these adventurers, have they ever left any information about Rhest, the Ghostlord or anything else in the Vale? We could use all the help we can get."

By the way, the Red Hand banner is a clawed red hand on a yellow field. Simple enough.
From Koth's map, you can see that Nimon Gap is marked as 'Day 19', where Drellin's Ferry is marked 'Day 5'. Nimon Gap is also marked 'Not Worth Burning' though it may not be wise to assume the hobgoblins follow that part of the plan too closely.

"The goblins used to be always fighting with each other, that's the thing. Maybe ten years ago word started to spread that it that it had really picked up, one tribe trying to conquer all the others. I can't say we've had any travelers in here the past two years that would know anything about the Wyrmsmokes. But maybe now the goblins are all on the march together.
Rhest, there's lots of old ruined buildings, and some lizardfolk and maybe the elves with their giant owls. Not sure if they are still there.
The Ghostlord, that's just a story as far as I know. The Six Blades made a go of finding the lair, but came back from the Thornwaste parched, exhausted, and badly wounded after barely surviving a run-in with a pair of landsharks. You can ask around in Brindol, maybe with Edlremma. Or Delora in Drellin's Ferry. The Golden Drakes had planned to investigate before they split up, not sure if they found any more information."

"We have some information that says they'll be here in the 19th day of their invasion. A few days have already passed, but destroying the bridge will also add a few days. So I'd say you still have at least a couple of weeks. By the way, you mentioned the Six Blades, but I think you only mentioned five members, is that right? If so, who's the sixth member?"

Tal'ariel then looks to the others. "Speaking of which, shouldn't we give our own company a name? I mean, one besides O'Dimm's Outlandish Ostentatious Circus!" Tal'ariel alludes to what is now just an inside joke between herself and Bran.

That's six. The Golden Drakes had five members, at least as far as Baltus and Kit know.

I'll move things along tomorrow.

sorry, tried to post yesterday but site was down, and I got tired waiting for it to come back up

Shishka actually enjoys drinking from the "big-folk" mugs, even though its nearly as big as her head, she tries to drink it up. Spilling almost half of it all over herself, asking for refills more than once.

She tries to listen to the conversation. she keeps nodding her "approval" of the information.

ya know we have one thing that none of those other groups had. she says in a slightly drunken slurr.

pulling out her grapple gun... A grappling hook! she says with pride before falling over on the floor.

Likewise frustrated by the boards yesterday.

Kit and Baltus promise to warn the other residents of Nimon Gap. You get back on the road, and continue on to Talar.

Talar is a town much bigger than Nimon Gap and just slightly smaller than Drellin's Ferry. Maybe around 1000 inhabitants, and it too has a ferry across the Elsir River. You arrive at dusk. A number of people seem to be making their way to a large wooden hall in the center of town.

This is the Council Hall, where you hear that the current Lady of the Manor is engaged in a debate with the Town Council. The town guards posted outside are happy to watch your horses, but advise "No weapons inside the Hall." They recognize your line of work, and isn't shocked by your arsenal, but are firm. "Nothing larger than a dagger. Rules. We'll watch over them here."

Who will go inside, and who will wait outside?

A boa constrictor doesn't need it's teeth to be dangerous, Thom thought as he handed over his spear, club and sling.

"I too would rather not be separated from my sword, so I will stay outside with you Tal, if that is ok?"

The rest of you can decide if you are inside or not. For the sake of this scene, I'll assume at least one other PC is there besides Thom. Bran or Seltazar don't really need weapons, and Shishka is familiar enough with these towns and their rules that she might comply.

Inside, the debate is quite animated. Or half of it is. A young auburn-haired woman in a fine gown paces back and forth in front of a long table. At the table sit five white-haired men with long beards and floppy hats (like the ones you see Dante wearing in paintings), and two white-haired women in shawls. About two hundred townsfolk are on benches around the perimeter of the room.

"The land reforms I propose have brought prosperity to Andoran -"
The crowd around the room boos loudly. Lady Cerila Nesten sees you enter, and is quite distracted, but tries to continue.

DC 20 Sense Motive:

Lady Cerila walks as if she is not used to wearing a gown like this. The length of her strides is more suited to one wearing breeches and in a hurry. Her eyes flit around the room looking for danger, in the manner of an experienced soldier or scout. Upon seeing unfamiliar faces enter, her hand subtly and briefly flinches in the direction of her right hip, before she catches herself.

"And... and you will more than make up in increased profits whatever occasional losses you have from the removal of the price supports. If we switch to Green Pearl Beans, the free market --"
The crowd boos once again - they seem to enjoy having the opportunity to heckle her. Lady Cerila stops talking, distracted by the boos but moreso by Thom and his companions. One of the Town Council finds his opening to speak.

He speaks slowly but clearly, his deep voice projecting through the crowd noise. "My lady, your late father was wise to do things as they have always been done. This talk of changes to rents, and new crops, and foreign ways, it is hasty."

Lady Cerila gives a faint sign of weariness at this advice, but politely responds, "Your pardon, Elezand. Perhaps we should continue later. I don't think the Warden of the Witchwood is here to discuss tenancy and bean prices. Thom, what brings you into town?"

The people in the room turn and gawk. All of them have heard of Thom Oaktall, and some have seen him now and then in his travels, but it is unexpected to see him here. And who is that with him?

Discuss this openly or try to get a private audience?

The dark thoughts bring a subtle smile to the elf's lips.

Bran hands the great ax to Tal, "We'll be out in no time. Can't break up the circus for too long after all." He gives a nod to Mikail and heads in with the sour elf and the bristling warden.

As he strides in he sees the room and slips his cestae off, tying them to his hip. He gives a quick once over of the room.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

He immediately notices that the woman speaking is unfamiliar with her gown, but more importantly he notices her stance switch slightly to lean into her where her weapon should be. Bran had seen this type before, hardened by battle and a weapon onto itself and he informs Seltazar in a hush, "She seems battle trained. This might be a lot faster than you think." He hopes the words bring some reaction to the elf's mouth.

He gives a quick chuckle and walks toward Thom, letting the man wield his title.

Sorry for the delays, the servers have been bad the last couple days. Every time I have time to update it just doesn't work out.

Lady Cerila considers Thom's words for a second. Then, abruptly, she calls to the room, "I withdraw the proposal. Meeting adjourned."

There is a loud chorus of boos from the crowd. A woman of the Town Council bangs a gavel and tries to call "We adjourn!" but the crowd doesn't seem to care. They are in no hurry to evacuate the hall. The townsfolk gradually move from booing to milling about and chatting with each other.

"Come with me," says Lady Cerila Nesten, "to the manor."
"We should come too," says the woman with the gavel.
"Er... fine, Goodwife Naran. You and Burgher Elezar? I think Thom's matter needs attention quickly and you two are the only ones that can walk faster than a dwarf on crutches."

Elezar and Naran scowl at this, and Naran replies "Lady Nesten, we are your elders. You ought to show more respect." They turn and confer with their colleagues. "Yes, we will represent the Council."

You retrieve your weapons, horses, and comrades and follow the noble to her home. It is about half a mile to the manor. Elezar and Naran are sprightly enough for their age, but Lady Cerila seems to be in a hurry and they grumble about the pace. She turns to Thom, "If it is a matter to keep close, let's not discuss it on the road."

The manor is a large stone house, with an exterior wall surrounding the courtyard and kitchen gardens. Two guards let you in, as Lady Cerila waves you through.

The house is well-built though a bit run-down. The furniture is fairly old, you can see dust and cobwebs in places, and the garden is somewhat overgrown. There are some signs of recent improvements, such as freshly painted doors and a recently repaired section of wall. Lady Cerila leads you into a parlor. There are musty though comfortable chairs to sit in. She continues to stand and pace, while the Town Council take seats. "So. What is it?"

Tal'ariel leans in and whispers. "These are the leaders this town has to offer? They should have retired a long time ago." She waits for someone to state some more diplomatic words out loud, hopefully before Seltazar voices something that will undoubtedly create distress.

I seem to have mixed up the Council member's name between the two posts. Well let's say there's both an Elezar and an Elezand, and they are cousins. The one with you now is named Elezar.

Thom remained standing and took a deep breath before quickly introducing his companions. The tall druid looked around the room before he announced, "We bring dire news indeed. The goblins have united and an army of the evil critters marches forth bringing death and destruction in its wake." He meets the eyes of his audience knowing they will have questions.

"Say no more, I understand," replies Lady Cerila. She takes down a finely-crafted bow from the wall. "I am ready. Which way?"
She looks down at her gown.
"If you give me a few minutes I can get my armor on."
Burgher Elezar speaks up. "My lady, I think that is not what the man meant."
Lady Cerila looks back and forth. "I have training and experience! I served with the Eagle Knights of Andoran! That's why you sought me out, to ask me to join you, isn't it?"

Tal'ariel offers her usual breakdown of the events. "We have sought you out as the leader of this town, to prepare an evacuation against the coming invasion. There is still much time - if the information we have is correct, the army is about 25 days away, being gathered in in the hills beyond the Skull Gorge Bridge. There certainly may be raids of Talar before then - we repelled an early attack against Drellin's Ferry a few days past. But the main force is a massive army of hobgoblins, backed by dragons. They are united under the banner of the Red Hand, led by a priest of the dragon god Tiamat. We saw them with our own eyes, and they will not be stopped in these open fields. We've asked other towns to evacuate to Brindol, and we recommend you do the same."

Lady Cerila is not sure how to respond.
"Prepare an evacuation? I guess... but shouldn't we take the fight to them? I am a skilled tracker, scout, and archer! Wouldn't I be of value? Goodwife Naran, you and the Council can manage the evacuation. I can go with these people. I imagine they are doing great deeds to thwart this army."

The older woman addresses her, speaking slowly and softly. "Lady Cerila, nobody doubts your bravery or your skill. You had the best food, the best training, and the best equipment. That wasn't to prepare you for gallavanting about for glory. That was so that you might serve your people. Your place is with them. They will need you. To sustain morale, to keep order, and to protect them on the road."

Lady Cerila bristles at this, clearly uncomfortable. "You ran the town well enough on your own when my father was going senile. And now you say you need me?"

Try to convince her to stay or let her come with you?

Big decision! What say you all?

"Lady Cerila, I think she may be right." He steps to her side and faces the town in the distance, moving his hand over it, "All of this, everything they have built, they may lose it all. They may lose loved ones, their homes and maybe even more if the Red Hand comes through; we have seen it first-hand." He pauses for a moment before continuing, "No doubt you have seen what happens when looters and bandits take over, when fear grips people, when a few worgs attack with their riders... A strong hand and a strong will is what is needed to make sure they make it to Brindol, that they make it there in the same piece they left." Bran turns to his companions and tries to judge their thoughts on the matter.

Tal'ariel shrugs. She had no real idea whether this town needed Lady Cerila or not. But seeing Bran start off responsibly, she chimes in with some alternative solutions. "M'Lady, if I were you, I'd probably run off and fight too! But that's probably why I've never been the leader of anything. You have a whole town at your command. Maybe there are ways to help that won't take you away from your people? Supplies? Information? Possible allies?"

The tall elf raises an eyebrow at the exchange. "If I may offer a... counterpoint..." the 't' sound is pronounced aggressively, almost like an accent. "... if the army is not halted, there may not be a people to keep safe. You protect them better by joining us."

...An archer may be crucial if we are to succeed.

Seltazar definitely wants her to come along for a plan B against dragons. But he doesn't care in the slightest about the people of this town, so take that for what it is.

Lady Cerila listens to your words. They seem to have an impact. To Tal'ariel, she responds, "The people aren't actually under my command. I own most of the land around the town and most of the farmers rent it. They aren't serfs, though I clearly get the better end of the deal and, yes, it is true that I do have an obligation to protect them. I have my own training, and I employ a small retinue of guards and rangers. Men-at-arms, though some are women. We can certainly furnish you with supplies that you may need. You are welcome to stay here for the night - I can stable and feed your horses."

She sighs. "The people need their soldiers. The soldiers need their commander. That's me. Andoran wasn't all fun and games running around in the woods, I had to learn that chain of command stuff too."

At Seltazar's words she is both excited and confused. "Wait, you are going to halt the army? The six of you? I could take my people to Brindol, but if the plan is just to hide out there while you save the day, I'd want to come with you once they are safe behind the walls."

Goodwife Naran whispers, though not quietly enough, "My lady, the dark one is clearly mad. You can tell by looking at him. Thom Oaktall is known throughout the Vale for his wisdom, listen to him."

Mikail looks sourly at Seltazar before she speaks.

"Leaders are going to be needed in Brindol to help command the town's defense. We are NOT going up against the main army of the Red Hand, but rather trying to warn people and find some other ways of slowing or otherwise hindering the army. It would be foolish to think our small force could stop that hoard...but a well-planned defense of a strongpoint will. Your knowledge will be valuable to the defenders of Brindol. While I am certain you would be a great asset to our team, your worth is greater to your people."

Seltazar gives the goodwife a dark look but makes no comment.

Lady Celira thinks. The words of an aasimar are highly regarded in the Vale.
"I will take my people to Brindol and reinforce their defenses with my retinue. Enough arrows can fell even a dragon. Perhaps I can call in a favor from the Eagle Knights of Andoran to get some additional help."

You all are free to stay here for the night and move on in the morning. I'll update more later.

From Talar, the party takes a ferry across the Elsir River, then leaves the Dawn Way and continues on the path to Witchcross. Once again, getting an early start helps you avoid some of the heat of the day. The ferry makes its first run about half an hour after dawn. Nevertheless, it is several hours' ride to Witchcross and it is getting hot by the time you arrive (around noon).

Witchcross is a large village located at a ford of the Witchstream (a smaller stream that feeds into the Elsir River eventually). It lies in the shadow of the Giantshield Mountains, a low range with pine trees on the slopes. While the village is ostensibly governed by a council of elders, the elders make no important decisions without first consulting a circle of Witchwood druids known as the Keepers of Eth. Thom would have been invited to become a member, but his far-ranging travels would not have been compatible with their work. They normally stay in the area around Witchcross, tending to ancient groves and druidic ceremonial sites. Adranna the Young (who is about 50) is the Speaker of Eth. Thom knows her to be a druid of considerable power, who like him has learned the ways of Wildshape.

As you approach Witchcross, you notice some sort of commotion by the river. You can see a woman approach the river, dunk her head in it, then trudge across the shallow ford. Two guardsmen with crossbows have marched down to the river, and a crowd has followed them out of curiosity.
Presuming you go there to move this along.

There are some looks as you approach, but the presence of Thom provides some explanation, and people are more interested in the straggler making their way across the Witchstream.

Dunking her head did not quite wash away all the dust from the road and sweat from her marching. The woman wears a soldier's tunic of blue and white over a shirt of mail, with the stylized image of a golden lion over her heart. You see her nodding appreciatively as a local brings her a flagon of ale. As you arrive, one of the villagers speaks up. Presumably an Elder, he is a short man in middle age, with a fine hat and a well-made shirt.

"I am Goodman Cooke of Witchcross. State your business."

"I am Teyani Sura, a Lion of Brindol." One of that city's elite forces. She stops to catch her breath, hands on her knees, then straightens up and takes another sip of ale. She sits down and continues speaking. "Do you mind if I sit? I am exhausted. I ride in the service of Lord Jarmaath. I was part of a patrol sweeping up the old Rhest Trail. Two days ago we ran into a roadblock. Palisade and watchtower. Hobgoblins and ogres, waylaying any travelers heading into or out of the Vale. They were too strong for us, and we had to retreat. My captain sent several of us riding off to warn folks across the Vale to avoid the Rhest Trail. A few gave chase, and an ogre killed my horse with a spear, but I wounded enough that they fell back. So here I am."

The guardsmen look across the river for signs of trouble following her, pointing their crossbows, but see nothing.

As you can see from the map, the Old North Road is the one with Skull Gorge Bridge, and that goes around the left side of Lake Rhestin and the Blackfens. The Rhest Trail goes up the right side and is how you would reach the ruins of the city.

Teyani Sura looks past the crowd at the party. Goodman Cooke turns and sees you as well. They ask in unison, "Who are you?"

Tal'ariel offers yet another rendition of what's becoming a familiar speech.

"We're strangers brought together by circumstance, acting in service of all people of the Vale. It's no accident that there are hobgoblins and ogres blocking the way to Rhest. These savages have united under the banner of the Red Hand and led by a dragonkin of Tiamat. The main force is gathering in the hills beyond the Skull Gorge Bridge. We have seen them with our own eyes, and they are beginning their march, with plans to strike Brindol in five weeks. We have come to warn the countryside and to disrupt whatever operations that we believe are happening in Rhest. Are there survivors of your company? If so, we would go at once to aid them."

I know this part is kind of repetitive, but this is the last town! I've tried to vary them a bit. Not that I was taking it as a criticism,
just that I know that's how this part has gone.

The town elder steps aside while the warriors talk.
Teyani Sura shakes her head. "An army. Organized. We had feared that. I think the others made it out, but I don't know for sure. If you've seen the army in... the Wyrmsmokes, it would be? Then you must have come up the Dawn Way. So I suppose Drellin's Ferry knows about this army?
I have to ask, though, five weeks? How do you know the goblins' plans that precisely? Do you have a spy in their ranks? They could be a double agent feeding you false information."

"Drellin's Ferry was savaged recently by a raid by this Red Hand." He jumps off the horse and sits down near Teyani, "We've warned Drellin's Ferry and most of them have made off for Brindol; we had just warned Nimon Gap as well. As for our information, we have a very reliable source, that you have to unfortunately take our word for. Recent developments have made myself at the very least a little more wary."

The man stares into the water, "Can you tell us about these pallisades and watchtowers? We can use all the information we can get. I'm also curious about Rhest and the trail, why are they keeping the Vale under such military scrutiny?"

He offers his hand, "Bran O'Dimm."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Teyani doesn't take Bran's hand. She looks down at the ground, then says brusquely to the town Elder and the guards, "I request some privacy. As a favor to the Lions of Brindol, could you move your people back to the town?" She gives a forced smile.

There is some grumbling from the townsfolk, but the guards and Goodman Cooke respect her status and honor her wishes. In a few minutes you are left alone with Teyani Sura. She turns to Bran and is clearly angry. She speaks tensely but quietly.

"If the villagers are the only reason you're so tight-lipped, I've taken care of it. Look, I don't know you. At all. So I can't just take your word. Like I said, if your source is a spy, they are notoriously unreliable. If you have evidence, I need to see it. And details of troop numbers, arms, magical assets, and so on. You're going to need Brindol, and I'm a Lion of Brindol. The more we know, the better we can plan.
You think I'm a spy for these goblins? From my point of view you could be the spies, giving Brindol false information. Seeded with just enough truth.
Oh, I believe you about the army. But you better give me something more solid to go on, or else I'll have bring a larger squad to the Wyrmsmokes to verify your claims. And that would waste time.
There's no way I can go back to Lord Jarmaath and say 'A stranger told me there'd be a full-scale war in five weeks.'
I don't think you're spies. So as a show of good faith, I'll tell you what I know. The palisade and watchtower block the road about 40 miles up the Rhest Trail. Wooden, fairly quick to put up if you have ogres doing the heavy lifting - which they do. If what you say is true, this is not merely for banditry, but to block messengers seeking help from Molthune or Druma. Maybe to block people from getting to Rhest, but why? There's nothing there."

Secret die rolls!:

Bran Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Tal'ariel Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Mikail Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Shishka Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Thom Sense Motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Seltazar Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

You're quite right that her interest in your information sources could be alarming. Then again, Tal'ariel's information really was suspiciously precise. However, none of you seem to feel that Teyani is hiding anything or being deceptive.

Bran smiles and nods. "Sorry. I think the forlorn one over there has kind of rubbed off on me. We had a talk recently and I only just realized that if we keep openly talking about our sources we may get burned at some point; this may be our only advantage in a tough campaign. He looks around for the plans, "Take a look at this. We have destroyed the bridge at the gorge so the plans might be somewhat off but hobgoblins aren't precise for no reason." The man tugs at the chain around his neck and gives an honest sigh, clearly exhausted but not from the ride, "It's been stressful. We have seen so much and at times I feel like the tide will swallow us if we aren't perfect in what we say and do. So much rides on this right now."

Tal'ariel pulls a snack from her bag and offers it, expecting the exhausted soldier might feel hungry having had a moment to quench her thirst. "We got these plans from a raid against one of their outposts, where we killed one of their leaders. It's possible they'll change their plans, but at least this seems like the speed they're comfortable advancing. We've been warning the towns and villages along our path, and the leaders have generally agreed to go to Brindol. If you have any sway, it would help if you can get the citizens to open their homes to these refugees. In return, they can bolster your fighting strength."

Teyani takes the offered food with a quiet "Thank you," and eats it as fast as possible while trying to look polite. When she speaks again, her tone has softened.
"I'm sorry. I arrived here exhausted, parched, and starving. Thank you for the food. I've barely slept the past two nights. Woke up at every owl's hoot."
She looks to Bran as he tugs his chain, and extends her hand. "A man of Kurgess, perhaps? Teyani Sura. Pleased to meet you. I am an Iomedan myself but we have great respect for the Strong Man."
She looks at the map.
"I don't suppose you have magic to cure the lack of sleep, do you? I should make a copy and get this to Lord Jarmaath right away. Let's find a room so we can write down what you know."

She turns to Tal'ariel. "I think Lord Jarmaath will do his part. He's a good man. If the battle comes to Brindol we can use every sword and bow we can get. I will put in a word for the refugees, but I believe the people of Brindol will open their homes."

Thom remained quiet and allowed his companions to explain the situation to Teyani. He nodded his head in agreement with the points Tal'ariel made and commented after the Lion of Brindol finish, "I hope so. Safety in numbers."

"It is good to see a member of the Inheritor's faith. I am Mikhail, warrior, and priestess of Iomedae. Greetings and blessing to you Teyani Sura."

Shishka had been in a rather comical argument with her pony as the introductions were being made, but now confident that she had won the argument, she moves to the rest.

Hey there, Hope I'm not interrupting anything, or anyone. looking to the soldier, You look a mess, I might have something n here to help ya out, well at least I think I do, unless Dingle took it, he's always taking stuff

she hands over some rations and then pulls out her notebook, I took some notes on the army that we found, wrote it all down right here. gave all the info I could to any that wanted it, wasn't too many actually, anyway you can take a look if ya like. I'm real sorry about your friends.

Shishka seems to start rambling on

The old elf stays thankfully quiet during the exchange, having had more than enough arguments with the mundane folk of these uncongenial lands. He doesn't even respond to Bran calling him forlorn. Seltazar actually looks rather bored. This conversation has been done over several times, after all.

If I had any faith in the gods of this world, I'd pray she doesn't ask us in for tea or anything. Let's try crossing our fingers instead.

The tall elf does not actually cross his fingers.

"Yes, I think it's best we find an inn. I'm Tal'ariel, by the way. Why don't you ride my horse for a bit." With that, she seems content to head to town.

Teyani Sura nods to Mikail. "Tredora Goldenbrow, an Aasimar like yourself, is the High Priestess of Iomedae in the Elsir Vale. Her cathedral is in Brindol and many of us look to her for guidance."
The town Elder, Goodman Cooke, returns and offers you the use of the Council Chambers. "If you don't mind, I'd like to listen, if it concerns my town, and I've brought the Speaker of Eth."
Adranna, a tall and slender woman, walks silently beside him. carries a staff and wears a darkleaf tunic. She nods politely to Thom.

Unlike the other towns on your route, it is not on the Dawn Way. There's little traffic up the Rhest Trail, aside from the occasional caravan to Druma. People don't stop here as often as they did when Rhest was a great city, so the town has declined. You can tell there used to be more buildings, although for the most part once abandoned they were taken apart for materials.

The Council Chambers are in a nice enough old building, fairly well maintained.

Teyani Sura looks over the map and Shishka's notes with great interest. If you hand her Lielle's sealed letters, she hands the appropriate one to the de facto leaders of Witchcross, and pockets the one to give to Lord Jarmaath. She can't read Goblin or Gnome, but with your help she makes a copy with annotations in Common.

"I suppose I must rest," she says. "Don't want to meet a goblin band in this condition. And by these notes I don't think an eight-hour delay in getting to Brindol will change anything."

How about you? Sleep here tonight and get to the roadblock tomorrow afternoon, or head out now, camp along the Rhest Trail, and hit the roadblock in the morning? It is about 1 now, 40 miles to the roadblock, and your horses go 5 miles per hour walking on a trail.

Lielle gave us sealed letters? I've already forgotten about that--sorry! But that sounds fine to me.

Tal'ariel considers their options and decides urgency might be appropriate. "I think we should keep our stay here brief. If you were pursued, members of your company may be on the road or captured. We could head north on the road to offer aid."

GM Zelligar wrote:

She turns to you. "I will write letters for you to give to the authorities in the other towns you reach. Noting that you gave this testimony under Zone of Truth to me, and noting the offer I have extended to any who may have connections to the Black Knives or other gangs. These bandits are still People of the Vale and it is my hope their sympathies will lie with their countrymen and not this fanatical horde."

I had meant to mention they were marked with her seal. The idea was to avoid having everybody else you meet need to verify your story as Lielle had done.

Not desiring to spend another night within a crowded town the Druid recommended, "Might be best if we started for this road block forthwith and find somewhere to camp along the trail."

The old elf wrinkles his nose at the discussion. "Unusually, I find that I agree. Let us move on from... this... place."

His condescension toward the townsfolk is as poorly disguised as always.
