Use this thread to start discussing characters and getting a party together. I'd like to have the party know each other (by reputation at the least.) I encourage people to look through the prd's section on character background and pick/randomize stuff from that to flesh out their characters.
I'll be putting up more information soon in the Campaign tab too.
I'm thinking we use the next 1-2 weeks to build the characters and for me to set up things in maptools. I'd like to start getting character concepts at least by next Monday so I can start to weave them into the storyline.
The more information the better, of course.

A couple people asked that the party have a healer this time, so I am considering a Cleric/Oracle in addition to my usual Sorcerer/Wizard. Then Reckless confused the issue by mentioning Psionics!
If someone else wants to be the healer, please be he healer! That will let me explore other possibilities .... On the other hand, considering the fate of the Falcon's Hollow, one healer type may not be enough. If I play a divine spellcaster, I would prefer to focus on something other than healing. Having two (or more!) divine casters would lesson the need for any one charcter to be a dedicated healbot.
Then there is the Kingdom building wrinkle!
Given that I will most likely play some type of magic user, I will base my choice of preferred kingdom roles on whether i play a charisma, intelligence, or wisdom based spellcaster. I don't have any burning desire to be the ruler - or any other preferences, so I will create my PC firsst, before considering the options.
Hmm... Bards are secondary healers, as are Druids, and Paladins. More choices. I'm not sure; i think the only healing capable psionic class is the Vitalist. My first thought is that I don't want to play a Vitalist.

Well, like I said on Monday, I was considering playing an oracle (and I've already fleshed one out pretty well) so feel free to do what you want. The oracle I've made so far is pretty evenly split between dedicated healer and firepower. :)
Also Gwen[Terra] has a new computer (she got it yesterday!) so hopefully she can rejoin us-- and she's planning on playing a Bard, which should be able to help with healing in emergencies (with a good bit of wand use)

I ruled as a pretty pretty barbarian in a kingdom thingy like this. It was pretty funny. A pink kobold paladin. Loooool. I'll be posting a thingy in the recruitment thingy probably tomorrow or the next day since you wanted us to get introductions out of the way and for us to know each other before it starts?

D'oh! I composed a post yesterday, and neglected to use the Submit Post button. Now I am not sure if I remember everything. Here goes:
I said that I have no burning desire to play the ruler. That being said, I find that the fluff of the "Noble Blood-Ignoble Birth" trait is a great fit for my character concept of a Half-Elf in a Human kingdom. The benefit of that trait only helps a ruler. On the other hand, I can make Touched by Fate, Lineage of the Ancients, or Kingsaver work. I don't really need to play Jon Snow. So speak up if you want to be the ruler!
Edit: If I give my Oracle the Lame curse, then I can play Bran Stark instead (I read that book over fifteen years ago. I think Bran was lame, but I am not sure anymore.)
Oh yeah, I made an Oracle, and am surprised at how it turned out. I also made a Sorcerer, and am a little disappointed with him. I plan to cover all the bases and make a cleric and a wizard, too.
Twenty build points is better than fifteen, but it is not mythic :(
Edit: I just figured out what happened yesterday. I clicked the Preview button.

Here we go! First character down!(Firsties)
"Greetings follow companions! My name is Semele the Trickster at your service!"
She gives a deep bow, rolling her hand in front of her with a large grin. Her smile was devilish and alluring with somewhat that of cunning. Her eyes, yellow and foxish, stood out against her coal black hair. She stood at 5 feet and 2 inches. A tiny lass, she was.
She wore little but modest clothing. Green shorts that puffed slightly like the poofy priss pants of most bards. Her shirt was sleeveless and cut short exposing her stomach. Large orange bows rested on the back of her head and shorts with a bright blue scarf wrapped around her neck. Her weapons consisted of two whips on her hips and a short bow swung over her back.
"As you can see, I'm not much of a fighter but I can help you fight betttteeerrr~" She held the note beautifully before letting it go. "I've been also pretty good at tripping with my whips. The boys can't help but fall for me." She winked with her clever smile.
"I'm better at gathering information for all your informative needs rather than fighting. Good at patching you all up if you get hurt too." Semele held her hands behind her back and rocked her body back and forth.
"I've come from the East across the ocean. It was a terrible trip. Would you like to hear the story?"
Before anyone could tell her no she began to tell her story anyway.
"Across the sea~ In a far away land of the East~" Semele hummed softly, balancing herself on one toe looking off to the east. A hand gently resting on her forehead to block the sun.
"I was born in the small human village~" She spun on her toe rocking a baby in her arms gently.
"I dreamed~ Oh how I dreamed to be bigger!~ Oh how my curiosity led me further!~" Arms now around herself she rocked from side to side twisting her body.
"I traveled city to city singing my melodies~" She sang the word melodies high and long.
"My happiness expanded to the happiness of others~" Skipping from person to person she pressed their cheeks up. "Smile for me! Oh happy day that is we meet!~"
"But why oh why are you here though you wonder?" Semele pouted pressing her fist into her cheek looking confused. "Well I'll tell you!" She grinned again quickly.
"One night, the pale moon shone brightly in the sky~" She waved her hands above her head in a long sweeping motion until it formed a circle.
"I dreamed a dream."
"A calling."
"It came to me." Her face was now serious as she made the long pauses.
"I was drawn to its call." Semele pulled her fists to her chest dramatically, like something was tugging on her heart, before letting a hand fly out pointing to the west. "And this calling drew me to the west!" She clutched her heart with her small fist.
"So over the seas I went! Five months travel." She held up five fingers.
"Some nights the waves were calm others the waves pushed and pulled the boat back and forth." She swayed back and forth too.
"My head was being knocked back and forth, back and forth, back and forth." Gripping her head she swayed around dizzy.
Suddenly, she reached out her hands in front of one of her new friends face and yelled. "Look out! A rock formation! The boat was being pushed and pulled towards it!" She walked in place looking like she was being dragged down and it was too heavy to pull away. Her arms reaching up pulling down with all her strength, gripping an invisible rope.
"We were going down!" She fell to her knees and started to pray.
"No!! Not yet I cried!" She jumped to her feet. "We could never give in!" She began to sing. "Pull!~ Tug!~ Strengthen your arms men!~ Pull!~ Tug!~ Strengthen your hearts men!~ Pull! Tug!~ We live on!~"
"Fighting the waves we pulled from the rocks and to safety." Semele sighed heavily as if she was tired and out of breath. "Safe at last. Oh Land, beautiful land! How I missed thee!" She sat down on the ground again and hugged herself again.
Up onto her feet again with new energy she grinned. "Into the western city I went!"
"Eyes bright with excitement for the new area so far from home!" She covered an uncovered her eyes to show bright with excitement they were with a large grin; as if she was playing peek-a-boo with a small child.
"No need to be nervous." She crossed her arms.
"No need to be scared." She shook her head.
"I was called here." Semele placed her hand gently over her heart this time.
"I was called to him!" She pointed to Erroyl. "Bright Auburn hair and Smoldering eyes. Yes it must be him from my dreams!"
"Yes! The one The Lost Kingdom told me to find!"
"He will lead me to my destiny!" She quickly hugged his arm again like how she was at the beginning when they all first met.

Here are some character concepts that I have been thinking about:
A 20 point Cleric: He is a Samsaren cleric of Iomedae who believes that he was a noble of the lost kingdom in a previous incarnation. An alternative variation is a theologian of Sarenrae (Iomedae is a good choice for a group with a Paladin, whereas Sarenrae would be better for a more relaxed group).
A 20 point Evoker While this elf has reason to believe that his ancestors were once Elven nobles from before humans arrived in the area now known as the Lost Kingdom, he is more interested in the Lost Secrets he might uncover than in regaining any claims to nobility; however, he knows that the latter might help him in his quest for the former.
A 20 point Oracle He is the half-elf bastard child of the current ruler. To an elf, a half-elf is even worse than a bastard. He has a chip on his shoulder, and a lot to prove to a lot of people - both elven and human. His secret desire is to out-live his elven detractors. That means discovering the secret to immortality or some other form of longevity.
A 20 point Sorcerer. He is a human with an arcane bloodline (I was tempted to give him the Destined bloodline, but I resisted). He is here for the adventure and the challenge.
A 20 point Master Summoner This is an alternative version of the half-elf bastard. This is his pet Eidolon.
I still need to finalize equipment and spell choices, as well as the character background stuff that Reckless recommended. I was kind of waiting until I narrowed my options down to one or two. They are listed in alphabetical order because I have no preference at the moment (if you believe that, then you might wonder why I made a wizard).

Good/Bad News:
Good: My parents are visiting me
Bad: This will occur tomorrow night, so no game this week. My parents have a habit of calling to say "Hey, we're in the area, and we'll be there today/tomorrow/in a few minutes." Which since they live in Ohio and I live in New York, is sorta.... Anyway, they'll be here tomorrow night.
See everyone next week,
Reckless |
Curse, indeed. It seems Gwen's new job means that she is no longer available during the week to play. This brings us down effectively to three players.
The way I see it is it gives us 4 options:
1) Recruit some replacements, having Semele and Erroyl called away to other duties (or eloping :P ) or some such.
2) Recruit and start something new.
3) Roll Flamester into the new Wednesday night Reign of Winter campaign we're about to start (possibly moving the game to Tuesday if that's good for everyone.)
4) Disband to play again some other time.
Please let me know what y'all's preferences are.
PhillyG |
I have enjoyed Throne of Thorns up to now, and would like to keep playing it. That is option 1. I prefer option 1 over option 2. Option 4 is too indefinite for me.
I don't mind option 3 as an "ALSO". I am currently available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I don't mind moving RoW to Tuesday, and moving ToT to one of those other nights.
PhillyG |
I would also like to suggest an "Option 5"!
ToT has a Kingdom Building component which is supposed to begin shortly implemented as a play-by-post on this discussion board. Semele and Erroyl can "retire" from active (MapTools) adventuring yet be involved in the Kingdom Building (discussion posts).
We can recruit other players for (MapTools) adventuring, who may or may not be nobles involved in the Kingdom Building - their choice.
PhillyG |
Yes! I hope Option 5 works for them.
I just remembered another reason to like option 3. There is something else that I can do on Wednesday if we move RoW to Tuesday. If we do that, then I would vote for ToT to move to either Monday or Thursday. Wednesday would be my third place choice.
Note: If it comes down to playing one or the other, I would prefer continuing ToT over starting a new campaign (RoW).
