Razor Coast Texas Style!

Game Master brvheart

Razor Coast, a devil’s paradise, where a man’s fortune can bleed out quicker than a spitted pig, and where the dawn sky blazes across endless oceans. Oceans that for centuries hid a lost people of whom legend whisper were born into these wild reaches as the sons of sharks. Here, within in the kraken’s clutches, law means little while gold breaks all boundaries and blood, pearls, and rum pay for all sin.

Hey guys, I'm Gerald and brvheart has told me you all are down a Party member all of a sudden like. I'd be interested in grabbing the spot, if you all would have me. I've played with michaelane several times and with brvheart and the two in his 'other' FGG game.

Looks like a divine caster is needed. I'm a big fan of Druids, but if the group was preferring a more traditional cleric, I could easily be persuaded!

I'm the complete newb so I don't have much of an opinion but in a discussion here Oro-Tu that's "Poor" Cyric, also know as evandariel said we need some one who "could be throwing heals and bunches of utility/control type spells" whatever that means.

Come and join us! It's on roll20

Hey Gerald! I was just reading up.

I love the idea of a druid. There's a lot of sewer delving, sailing and swimming going around lately. I am a decent hunter/barbarian with high survival and perception, Silas is good with trap stuff and is our party face, but our only divine caster is Aurora and she's more of a warpriest/run into the fray type.

A caster focused druid would be fantastic, especially since it can a) heal and b) has a lot of nature related utility.

One thing we definitely don't need is more front liners... lol.

I was a kickstarter backer of Razor Coast, so I have most of the info. I have, of course, misplaced my player's guide, though. As I am missing that, for simplicity's sake, I will probably play a general human from Port Shaw, rather than a branch of the Tulita or a menehune.

DM, while I decide on Druid v. Cleric, could I get you to repost that list that Greg Vaughn sent you of the gods and their domains? If there is a tasty god there that might fit well in the Port, I'd consider him/her.

I'll need a couple days to get everything together, though.

No problem it'd be hard to meet us at the moment in the submerged coral caves unless you are an aquatic elf. :P

I backed the lost city and got tsar and a few others but missed Razor coast. Bill was going to cut me a deal but didn't hear back from him so didn't worry about it.

I pm'ed you an invite to the Roll20 site Gerald:)

Got it, DM. I'll get that link lined up tomorrow. I'm on my iPad and for some reason it's not clickable. I'll log in and be over there tomorrow afternoon.

The witch doctor is a healer who specializes in afflictions of the soul. Often misunderstood, she protects her tribe with healing powers, powerful defensive magic, and her own divine "witchcraft."

Slayer Class: The slayer is elusive, and good at finding the opportune time and location to strike. Combining the deadliest talents of rangers and rogues, a slayer's abilities are all about getting into combat, dealing with a target, and then getting back out again.

Parent Classes: Ranger and rogue.

Archetypes for Slayer:

Bounty Hunter
Whether tasked with bringing in wanted criminals or paid to drag debtors back to their loan sharks, bounty hunters are valued for their ability to capture targets alive.

Vanguards: battlefield commanders who focus on the brutality of combat and lead their allies to bloody victory. Quick to react to danger, a vanguard is a valuable scout, capable officer, and skilled tactician.

Hunter Class:
Hunters are warriors of the wilds that have forged close bonds with trusted animal companions. They focus their tactics on fighting alongside their companion animals as a formidable team of two. Able to cast a wide variety of nature spells and take on the abilities and attributes of beasts, hunters magically improve both themselves and their animal companions.

What level will I come in at, DM? Same level as the others, or a level behind? Same question for items. As you are "old school," do you go by the wealth by level chart, or do you just want to assign me a few items and be done with it?

I assume I roll for HP's from 2nd level up.

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

You are level 7, ask Ivar for XP as you two will be the same. Just short of 8th. Yes, roll above level 1 rerolling 1's. Use Book WEL no more than 25% on any one item.

HP for whatever divine character I make. All favored class bonuses will go to HP as well.

6d8 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 1, 2, 1) = 19

Rerolling the two 1's 2d8 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6

Rererolling the one 1 1d8 ⇒ 2

By my count, 8 HP at first level, 24 for the additional levels plus 7 for Favored Class.

39 HP, not including any bonuses for a high Constitution.

Michaelane, I know you are a bit of a firebug. Would you feel your role was minimized if I played a menehune fire lover, going into the Pele Liberator PrC? I don't want to step on any toes, and I've been looking for interesting ideas.

Please don't hesitate to tell me if you don't care for the idea, and I'm happy to come up with something else...

Personally I think something waterbased or a generalist type druid would be better, Leialoha has a crap load of blaster power, we need more healer/utility or control type casting. Between aurora being more fight oriented and Leialoha being a blaster don't think you'd get as much out of it. Leialoha literally is all fire spells except for like haste grease and mage armor, most of the time.

Dunno the PRC but you can view Leialoha char sheet and see his abilities and spells prepared to get an idea. Anyway, don't let me stop you if you think it'd fit, I don't know what the PRC entails for the liberator. I don't think Leialoha would mind another fire-lover, just that if it involves a lot of blasty stuff it might be overkill.

I went with the Charm domain to try something completely different. I am planning on being a Port Shaw colonial who has a soft spot for those Tulita wildlings. It might come with a touch of condescension, as the colonists are 'clearly more advanced,' but she generally appreciates them as well.

I'll get the background up this evening, and whenever the DM is ready to introduce me, I'll be ready.

I've got a couple CLW wands and I bought a Lesser Restoration wand, too. So hopefully, I can help medic.

Leialoha, if you can try to ID the last two magic items, a belt and a net, that'll be everything

I figure from now on we can just add up the sale value of everything, hand out everyone's share, and if there's something they want that we find they can contribute from their share equal to it's sale value.

Example, everyone gets a 5000gp share, someone wants +1 chain shirt (sells for 750gp to Samuel) that we found. So instead of selling the shirt that person takes the shirt and 4250gp (and everyone else still gets 5000gp). It's a good discount and makes it easy to divide the loot. If someone's share is not enough for some magic item we find (say, it sells for 12000gp), we can just note how much over it is and take it from the next time we sell stuff.

Let me know what you guys think. I just thought it might be easier to manage that way, and also will help keep everyone around the same wealth level. Like if we found stuff that was only good for fighters (Aurora, Ivar, and me) for a while, Silas and Leialoha's wealth by level would slowly start going down (or vice versa).

Just an idea, give me input.

[dice=8th level hit dice reroll, rolled a 5+2=7 before on local dice but DM said I "had" to roll it here instead of just post the number? Whatever!] 1d8 + 2[/dice]

for christ sake this is infuriating: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

I like the idea of the person "buying" the item @ sale value, that's the same as having the value come out of their cut. What if the item is worth more than the persons percentage, can they carry a negative figure and pay it off with the next loot?

Male Human, Tulita Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 8 / Fighter (Unbreakable) 1; HP 83/104(122), DR 4/-, Init +2, AC 20(18)/FF 18/T 13; F +12(14), R +5, W +5(7); Per +13; CMB +14(24), CMD 27(37); Rage 21/21

we were discussing the person using their next share to pay any extra, but up to 50-80% of their share, so that you don't have to spend all your shares on it, assuming it cost that much.

So you contribute 5k (your share) and it would sale for 12k. So next share (8k) you contribute 4-6k (and have 1-3k still owed), then on your next share you finish paying for it.

That way you can still get other things you need if it was very expensive, but it will still help even out the loot.

If something is good for 'RP' or a shareable group item we can have the 'party share' pay for the item and keep track of it with the ship stuff. Sort of like how the scrolls should be 'party share' loot since when they get cast they will benefit everyone

right, that makes sense, we use enough sharable stuff, wands etc. they should come from the group, I'm still trying to take in how much we can use buffs and such to improve the entire party, those wands should definitely be paid for as a group. speaking of which the fish hook is 10,000, gp what is the take this time and who else is interested in it?

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

Uraisa, you are in the Chapter House of Quell when the party returns. Please at least dot the game play.

I'm ok with the proposed approach to shares.

Spellcraft (belt): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
Spellcraft (net): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21

Male Human Rogue6/Clr1 Current Map

Leialoha, considering your AC is the worst in the party and have taken almost no treasure I am guessing you might want the belt of Nat armor +3? Silas, anything you are interested in before the hoards start grabbing?

That makes sense. I can trade out the amulet of natural armor +1 to someone else that doesn't currently have a natural armor bonus too.

Male Human, Tulita Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 8 / Fighter (Unbreakable) 1; HP 83/104(122), DR 4/-, Init +2, AC 20(18)/FF 18/T 13; F +12(14), R +5, W +5(7); Per +13; CMB +14(24), CMD 27(37); Rage 21/21

OK so, assuming Silas agrees, I figured party shares: 20,883gp each.

This includes the 'resale' value of the items which I will list with their resale value below, so with your share you can 'buy' any of them with your share of the gold value. I left ~7,000gp for the initial party funds (since part of it went towards the ship purchase).

These are the magic items that we are 'selling' for our share, if you want any of them just subtract the amount in parenthesis from your share.

identified (60% resale value in parenthesis):
+1 spiked chain (1395gp)
+2 Sharktooth Club (4980gp)
+1 Returning Net (4980gp)
+1 chain shirt (750gp)
+1 Gator-Hide Armor (720gp value, +4ac/+4dex/-1acp, light)
Ring of Protection +1 (1200gp)
Belt of Natural Armor +3 (13500gp)
Fishhook of the Hunter (12000gp)

The party stash ends up as:
Funds: 7032 gp
1) Our ship! (priceless)
2) a complete set of fine china (200 gp value)
3) a set of exquisite quality silverware (100 gp value)
4) sea chest of maps, +5 knowledge (geography) for Razor Coast
5) Scroll inscribed on sea shells with divine spells water breathing, control water (1075 gp value)
6) Scroll of Haste (375 gp value)
7) Scroll of Invisibility (150 gp value)
8) Copy of spells from an old spellbook (sold to Samuel): 0—all; 1st—alarm, burning hands, charm person, detect undead, grease, hold person, jump, silent image; 2nd—alter self, arcane lock, command undead, darkness, fog cloud, levitate, scare, see invisibility, whispering wind; 3rd—dispel magic, gaseous form, halt undead, stinking cloud, water breathing; 4th—animate dead, bestow curse, dimensional anchor, enervation, fear, mnemonic enhancer, solid fog; 5th— cloudkill, hold monster, permanency, teleport; 6th—blight, magic jar, mind fog, symbol of pain

---I know Ivar wanted the fishhook. I would like a +con item since I am designed to stand in front of everyone, but I don't need the summoning stuff from the fishhook so Ivar can take it. I don't really see anything I absolutely have to have, so you guys can take first pick.

Also, Silas, if there was extra stuff in the party funds that wasn't on that list I pasted let me know and we can sell it off etc too. And if anyone sees anything they think would be a good party item or something for our ship (like the silverware Ivar wanted us to keep for the boat), let me know and we can 'buy' it from the party share.
