Speak your words hear away from the prying eyes and ears of the people of Port Shaw.

Yooooooo!

Female Human (Aizanes-Tulita) Druid/Shaman 5

Here!

Ugh, They killed the Wis to AC ability for Nature Shamans. Really kills the "melee and casting" thing I was going for.

I'm trying to decide now if I want to focus on pure casting, or sacrifice some of my wis and maybe switch to Feral Hunter/Shaman to focus on melee.

For sure I'm taking the Possessed Shaman archetype, Two bonus skills (and one wandering skill) for free, and you get to use wis on them. Really nifty.

Our party consists of a turret... guy...

A gunslinger!

A zen archer!

The caster guy TSP is making

One melee guy who has a buff T-rex named Stumpy.

And you!

In all honesty, Dag might get lonely on the frontlines. XD That said, play what you'll have the most fun playing.

Human Steamshadow 5 // Steamwright 5

Tenro dotting in

Are we doing doing that same 'Dragon Age Origins' prologue thing with this group?

Human Steamshadow 5 // Steamwright 5

and for the record, in combat once i get the javelins set up, Selveros can get into melee. he has AC 21, +10 to hit, and will do 6-11 damage (avg dice rolls: 8 dmg) per hit, 1 hit per round with his auger (dagger).

this is while the turrets are doing 4-11 damage each, range 60ft, with +9 to hit.

and between the dagger and the turrets, he has two d8s he can add onto damage (not 2d8 each (yet), but can add a total of 2d8 to one thing).

So, ranged or close up, he can switch-hit. he is just slow to get set up, since it takes a standard to deploy each javelin, and a swift to command each javelin (when commands are necessary).

Do the Javelin's attack on their own and need something like a command to switch targets? (Sorry, I really like classes like the one you seem to have. XD I've always been a pet fan and a fan of inventors.)

Human Steamshadow 5 // Steamwright 5

well the turrets are the base item, and i added a "mod" (a function of the class) to modify them to be javelins in their inert form.

when they are javelins, i can throw them as such. then after one throw, they deploy in a nearby square. whether i throw them like that or set them down next to me, it's a standard to deploy them.

Regarding action economy:
"Once per turn, the steamwright may direct the turret’s fire (this is normally a swift action, barring certain mods), causing it to make a single attack against one enemy in range. If the turret is not commanded, it will make a single attack against the nearest enemy who has attacked the steamwright or her allies at the end of the steamwright’s turn. If there are no obvious targets, the turret does nothing. A steamwright with multiple turrets can only command one turret per swift action. If she has multiple turrets deployed simultaneously, she may use a move or standard action to command each of them."

so basically, they'll attack anyone who attacks me or my allies, OR i can use a swift action to direct one of them to a specific target. if i want to direct both in one turn, i have to spend a move action as well.

Ah, makes sense considering you only get a single swift action a turn... And geez, those turrets... can you like... mount one on the back of a dino?

Human Steamshadow 5 // Steamwright 5

Well, rules don't say. Back in the day, 3.5 would have specified no

There is a mod that lets it move 10ft per round

there's an invention that is basically a heavy shield but you can throw it down and it acts like a small wall with a firing slit. That can attach to the turret, so you have a kinda small slow-moving firing platform.

It has a weight to it, so I'm curious about that. It would be pretty cool if you could hook Stumpy up in combat like that.

Female Human (Aizanes-Tulita) Druid/Shaman 5

Ok, I think I've figured out what I'm going to do. I'm going to go:

5 Hunter (Feral Archetype) | 1 Oracle (Nature), 4 Shaman (Possessed Archetype, Nature)
Base Stats: 18 8 16 10 16 16

It'll cost me two points of wis, and delay third level shaman spells by one level, but on the other hand my saves are way better, and i can pick up divine protection for Cha to saves too. Also I'm really digging the Feral Hunter. It gets wildshape at equivalent level to a druid, and permanent animal focus, fits really well for Mori I think. Won't have an animal companion again until 17th, but she should be pretty good in melee.

Background-wise I'll just need to remove the references to my companion, but she'll still have her familiar and everything else should be unchanged.

Let me know if you're ok with the changes RVT.

Dag, yes of course we are lol! :)

Mori, those changes are fine!

Also, what Orin said - we're pretty good at distance! d6+13/d6+13 on a full-round attack, against touch AC

EDIT: also, also - backstories? Dag and I have put something together about how we know each other, would be good to do this for everyone.

Rigel's spent the last 30-ish years in Port Shaw but before that was on the sea a lot (in a "free company" vessel called Galleas' Way); it's conceivable that she and Orin know one another from a way back. Selveros' abilities and outlook seem pretty complementary to Rigel's (although maybe Rigel is less of a stone-cold killer, have to see how that plays out) so they may have worked together in the past - or even been on opposite sides? Maybe both, at different times!

Human Steamshadow 5 // Steamwright 5

Yeah Selveros does assassinations, kidnappings, est.

General wetwork.

but he has an agent that handles his contracts so any job we were on together in that respect must have handles different agencies, or Selveros's agent has other field agents.

But, Selveros does a lot of work near the docks patching up ships and whatnot.

Human Steamshadow 5 // Steamwright 5

3 years

Female Human (Aizanes-Tulita) Druid/Shaman 5

From what we discussed briefly in the recruitment thread, I think it's likely Mori has worked with Rigel and Dag some. She's willing to do most anything so long as it's a) not helping slavers, b) not doing evil to obviously innocent people, and c) provides information on the slavers responsible the kidnapping of her tribe, or of the locations of her living tribe members. How about the following:

Mori's been in Port Shaw off and on for a couple years now, and during that time she's done work for Rigel quite a few times as a scout/tracker/magic-user. On one or two jobs she's also worked with Dag.

When she first met Rigel, Mori took a shine to her then and there. Not only because of her exotic appearance (exotic to Mori anyway) and natural charm, but also her complete lack of concern about Mori's heritage (unlike most foreigners or Tulita around the Port). Mori appreciates the gnome's skill and forthrightness and prefers taking jobs from her when possible.

She's tolerant of Dag, but the two tend to rub each other the wrong way due to their religious differences. Stumpy, on the other hand, she finds entertaining and occasionally brings some small game back with her for him if she knows Dag will be around.

Female Human (Aizanes-Tulita) Druid/Shaman 5

Orin: What teamwork feats do you have? I didn't see them listed under feats in your profile. Mori gets one at 3 that I've not chosen yet, and Outflank for free (also given to any creatures she summons via Nature's Ally), so I figured I'd see what you have so I can put them to use.

Dag probably hasn't dealt with Sev, because Dag's usual dealings with Slavers and Assassins is to kill them brutally. XD He's got enough warrior and scholar in him to respect Sev when they finally meet, but I don't think they'll ever be best of friends.

Mori, that works for me!

@Group: Is Dag the only good aligned character? XD

Male Dwarf Monk(Zen Archer)/Inquisitor 5, hp 60/60, AC 21, (T21/FF18), Init +13, Perc +14 F+8(13)/R+8(13)/W+11(16)

I have stealth synergy right now. I can change it as a standard action, so it's not locked in yet. Teamwork feats are pretty terrible if you're not melee, so if there is any that you want let me know and I'll take it.

Female Human (Aizanes-Tulita) Druid/Shaman 5

Stealth Synergy works, I didn't see terribly much that I could take that would benefit me with you at range.

If anyone else who is going to be in melee wants to take Outflank, it's probably not a bad investment, since both I and my summoned creatures will have it.

Half-Elf Female Cleric (Asmodean Advocate) 1 VMC Anti-Paladin I HP 8/8 I AC 12 [T 12 FF 10] I CMD 14 I F 1(2) R 2(3) W 6(9) I Init +2 I Percep +12 I SM + 10 I Low light vision, Darkvision 30 ft Copycat 7/day, LE Aura, Channel energy 5/day

Mori - yeah, I think that works if Rigel has worked with you. She won't much care about her heritage; although Mori's looks are pretty exotic as well, I think, unless I missed a bit somewhere about what 'normal' Tulita look like? Rigel would definitely be fascinated by any human with green hair!

In terms of work, Rigel is not fond of slavers either - but prefers to take them down for payment, rather than a cause ("I may be small, but I have to eat too, you know!"). She's unlikely to work for slavers and suchlike, no matter how much they're offering (I said unlikely). She definitely doesn't work against the Tulita, but never explains why.

Mori's services in summoning would definitely be useful (the one weakness of a sorcerer - you can't swap out spells quickly enough for it to be worth taking, before it becomes obsolete), as well as any healing (another arcane drawback). I can see a synergistic partnership there.

Maybe Rigel also does some peace-making when you and Dag start debating religion (it upsets her when friends argue, and you wouldn't want to make her cry, now would you...? *blinks soulfully* - yeah, she can be pretty shameless).

@Dag - Rigel is TN, but prefers Good: she's just prepared to do stuff to the bad guys that Good would frown on.

Female Human (Aizanes-Tulita) Druid/Shaman 5

Mori's definitely exotic, it should be pretty obvious she's a Tulita with elf blood, which I imagine is exceedingly rare. But exotic is, of course, in the eye of the beholder.

Also, since she's Chaotic Neutral, she's not averse to less-than-legal activities and certainly wouldn't begrudge Rigel being paid for work. She just has a personal vendetta against slavers, so she'd be unlikely to directly accept payment for it in that particular case (especially since she doesn't need to eat :p).

I like the idea of Rigel as the mediator between Dag and Mori. Looks like Rigel's shaping up to be the linchpin of the group ;)

That is a common misconception. As a barbarian that unleashes his pent up rage and aggression, as well as his pet t-rex, on people he doesn't like, I think you're underestimating what Dag would consider necessary. XD

Still, several N characters and an NE character. Although I suppose Orin is just as lonely being the only Lawful character. XD

And apparently TSP was just kidding... all those rolls...! D:<

Ah well lol, serves me right for being an airhead who couldn't get the joke before I ran with it. :/

So... where does everyone want to be and what do they want to be doing in Port Shaw when the story starts? Remember, keep it something short and simple, so we can smoothly transition to the first scenario.

Human Steamshadow 5 // Steamwright 5

yeah, that would have been seriously unbalanced, hahaha. loot alone was 2 or 3 times what we started with

i figure Selveros probably doesn't have a lengthy working experience with any of the others, but i built in an easy hook to get him into whatever is going on. his mentor told him to!

Selveros would most likely be near the docks, patching up a ship, working on a cannon, or a crane, etc.

Dag will be at the Salty Siren, as he usually is when he's not on a job, probably enjoying a drink and spending some time with his friends there. Stumpy hangs out in the back with the cook trying to steal scraps. XD

Female Human (Aizanes-Tulita) Druid/Shaman 5

Mori'll in the Bawd district tracking down a contact who is rumored to know something about the slaver ship "Good Intentions", one of the ships that participated in the raid on the Ng'ihaze tribe.

If the information costs more than she has or leaves her broke (pretty likely), she'll probably head to the Salty Siren to hunt down Rigel for some work.

Apparently, Selveros, you and his character should be acquainted. He's apparently a magical cat burglar and information broker who has many contacts in the criminal underbelly of Port Shaw, though in the name of discretion, I'm unsure of how public you two might be about knowing each other.

Dag! XD is Stumpy like a giant reptilian dog?!

EDIT: Mori, perhaps TSP is your contact?

Are you asking if Stumpy wags his tail when he is happy, tackles people he likes when he first see's them, and enjoys licking people?

... Maybe.

Hmmm, well i thought he was a shop owner and i might work at that shop. or a nearby shop, whatever works. my public persona would be fixing ships, repairing machines (even simple ones like hand drills or loading cranes or drawbridges)

Orin's just been drinking and wenching since his last commission limped into port. He's been keeping a room at the Captain's Wheel, but rarely wakes up there. He's only been around for a month or so, but has been sailing these waters for decades and hardly a stranger to the city.

Rigel has just turned down a contract to hunt down three absconding Tulita indentured servants.

The prospective client didn't take it very well and there was a bit of a fuss; Rigel is calming herself down by visiting her favourite tailor (Hawkbill and Swoon's), in Silk District.

Later on, she plans to visit The Kraken's Gullet in Jade District, to see whether anyone important (and rich!) might have need of her services.
