Rappan Athuk on roll20.net

You set off to the southwest, towards the cemetery where two of your numbers had fallen. You had wanted to put sufficient distance between you and it before building the pyre, as it could have acted as a beacon to anything around, so it takes you some time to get back. By the time you are making your approach, the mist is burning off, and the beautiful morning is starting to cloud up.

As you approach the crucifix-shaped depression which is the graveyard, your ears pick up sounds; shouts, voices raised in spellcasting, the clang of metal on metal. Looking at each other, you ready your own weapons and approach warily, watching for hidden foes.

As you crest the low rise that surrounds the lichyard, you spy two humanoids, a dwarf with a bow and an elf in robes standing near the well, amid a sea of rats, both normal size and those of unusual size, amidst the rats stands another humanoid, but one with ratlike features, in leather armor, and wielding a shortsword in one hand.

With a loud incantation, a bright ball of fire streaks from the robed elf's hand, blossoming into a conflagration that engulfs the swarming rats. The dwarf fires well placed arrows at the oncoming horde, skewering one after another.

With a wild frenzy, the sword-wielding rat-man charges the elf, its blade penetrating the man's gut. With a cry, the elf slides from the blade. The rat-man and three hungry dire rats turn toward the dwarf and the dwarf turns toward's his foe.

Cue battle music. You are about 100 yards away; Brodin is in the SW corner of the map, you are in the NE corner. Link to join Roll20 game as a player. https://app.roll20.net/join/1619785/BRnNyA

"Already? This place is a nightmare."

Do we need to deal with initiative yet, or are you looking for our initial responses? Belle's reaction will be based on the distance to the ruckas and the placement of the combatants.

Initiative is probably a good idea. See map for distance and placement

Tony listens to Reynaud as he watches Belle charging off half cocked, soon followed by Garrosh and Reynaud himself.

He turns to Agyen, "Is it always like this with her?"

He turns and chases after Belle at top speed.

Only at 4x speed. No run feat for me.

Belle takes off toward the solitary dwarf standing by the well, with Reynaud following shortly behind. The dwarven archer fires three arrows at the oncoming dire rats, skewering two of them neatly. The two skewered rats drop to the ground, twitching on their impailment.

The lone dire rat and rat man move in toward the dwarf. The dwarf nimbly dodges both the rat bite and the swordblade of the rat man. The ratman chitters "Lord Orcus will add your bones to his throne!"

Up Next - All y'all. Garrosh and Tony, as you acted before you should have, if you make your perception check, you may change your action, or go with your all out sprint toward the combat. Your choice.

Perception DC 16 for Tony, Garrosh, Agyen and DC21 for Reynaud:

Reynaud, you ended up just past where I noted this would occur, so your Perception DC is slightly higher.

Tony and Garrosh, as you 'acted' before you should have, you have the option to keep your actions (Run 4x), or change your actions. Roll20 has you as moving 4x.

MID-ROUND UPDATE

Tony, Garrosh and Reynaud hurry forward after the fleet-footed elf. Agyen, noticing the holes opening just behind Reynaud takes a more cautious approach, and casts expeditious retreat.

The dwarven archer fires another shot a the remaining rat, skewering it with sufficient force to impail it on a nearby tree. Turning, he fires two more arrows at the wererat, striking it once for significantly less damage than an arrow to the gut should have caused.

Just waiting on Belle. I most likely will be leaving by noon. If I get a post from her prior to that, I will see about getting another round up before the holiday.

"Seems like we are just another group of foolish adventurers. Like you we lost a companion without ever getting past the first door, or so I assume, then lost another before ever going past the threshold. We've just returned from burying our dead and were going to track the ghouls back to their lair since we destroyed all but one. Not sure if that idea will pan out as the trail is over a day old and there may be more of the things about. It doesn't help that none of us are much at tracking, but a group of a dozen ghouls has got to leave quite a trail."

"Looks like you have a similar problem. I would not advise burying your companion here."
