Hey Orryn, when you say you are going to a spot and stopping, are you assuming your are landing there or hovering in the air? If you are hovering then Stella needs to make a DC 15 Fly check.
Orryn Quattlebaum |
Most of the time, the roc and I are walking (Stellah on her hind legs). I normally only fly when in combat.
Rene Duquesnoy |
if you are walking and it goes into a combat, it will take you an action to mount your roc right?
Orryn Quattlebaum |
Still riding in the saddle, but it costs a move action to take flight. This usually takes up my first action in a given combat; by Round 2, I'm able to charge. But not before then.
(Any threats in the immediate area would provoke AoOs normally, which is part of why I started out in the rear.)

Strategy discussion: It would probably be a good idea for Octavius to knock Opal away from the Flaming Sphere and for Dex to cover those holes he sees, or you may quickly have a dead Cleric on your hands. Unless you guys have a different idea that would accomplish the same thing.
Rene Duquesnoy |
To keep things a little easier for me, and so I don't have to jump around to everyone's character, can you please fill out this google doc that will keep track of your character's stats?
Thanks.

Just a note for future reference (I only learned this the other week), readied actions work like delaying: after you complete your readied action, if it triggers, your initiative count changes. See Initiative Consequences of Readying.

Rules question: How do readied actions interact with each other when they both trigger on basically the same action, but interfere with one another?
Like what just happened: Octo had a Magic Missile readied whet the door opened, and the Baddy had Color Spray readied when the door opened. Those spells obviously interfere with each other, so how is it resolved?
I don’t think I have run into this before.
Rene Duquesnoy |
@Zefeni: Didn't know about the initiative changing. Good to know. I believe Baddy missed anyway.
@Opal: Since the Baddy had a readied action prior to Octo, I let the baddy go first.

In this case, I think it's what the trigger was: the bad guy's trigger was the door opening; Octo's trigger was seeing an enemy (so he could target the magic missile, which can only happen after the bad guy's trigger.

Hmm, I have always played that if caster takes damage from an AoO triggered by a Move action before he casts a spell on the same turn, he needs to make a Concentration check. But looking at it I think that is perhaps incorrect. Does anyone know if that was a change from 3.5?
Rene Duquesnoy |
I believe it depends on what the AoE was triggered by. If I do a move action, and get hit by the AoO, that doesn't effect the spell. If I get hit by an AoE while casting the spell, I need to make a check.
from d20pfsrd.com:
Generally, if you cast a spell, you provoke attacks of opportunity from threatening enemies. If you take damage from an attack of opportunity, you must make a concentration check (DC 10 + points of damage taken + the spell's level) or lose the spell. Spells that require only a free action to cast don't provoke attacks of opportunity.

This is my interpretation as well.
PRD:
Concentration Check: When a creature is casting a spell, but is disrupted during the casting, he must make a concentration check or fail to cast the spell.
Injured while casting: 10 + damage dealt + spell level
Continuous damage while casting: 10 + 1/2 damage dealt + spell level
Affected by a non-damaging spell while casting: DC of the spell + spell level

Rene,
I just want to point out that you're doing a really good job. The maps and this fight were a lot of fun..even if I drooled for most of it.
Rene Duquesnoy |
I can't believe you crit'ed the devil. Would you provoke an AoO? Not the best on how charging with a mount works.
Orryn Quattlebaum |
Basically it's the same as a charge; the rider and mount move together. And since I have the Ride-By Attack feat, we can move-attack-move without provoking.
Opal Moonstone |
Opal, did you get to level 2?
It’s probably a good thing I didn’t hit level 2 before this session. The more I play Opal, the more confident I am that she is headed toward a rebuild.
Opal Moonstone |
Well, it's a bit complicated, but basically a TWF Ranger with a level dip into Master of Many Styles eventually going for Horizon Walker. She'll be a monk who's not a monk. Her background will basically stay the same, except she will be Human and still worship Korada.
Rene Duquesnoy |
This has gotten pretty slow lately. Are you guys waiting for me, or trying to figure out how to deal with the dwarf? I really want to finish this up soon.
Octavius Carolingian |
I agree. it has been getting slow. My Wizard just doesn't know what to say, he doesn't want to offend the simple dwarf and I just don't want to throw a Magic missile at him.
Orryn Quattlebaum |
I was fooled by a sadistic Gnome who was pretending to be a devout follower of enlightenment. I’d rather not talk about it.
LOL, ah, Scenario 3-21. :-D
