In the kingdom of Talingarde, many crimes may send you to Branderscar Prison, but the sentence has but one meaning. You are wicked and irredeemable. Each of you received the same greeting when you arrived. You were held down by rough hands and branded upon the arm with a runic F given to you by a sadistic Watch Sergeant named Tomas Blackerly. The mark signifies ‘forsaken’ and the painful scar is indelible proof that each of you has betrayed the great and eternal love of Mitra and his chosen mortal vassals.
Condemned, you face at best a life of shackles and servitude in the nearby salt mines. Others might await the “gentle” ministrations of the inquisitors so that co-conspirators may be revealed and confessions extracted. Perhaps, some of you will be spared this ordeal. Perhaps instead you have come to Branderscar to face the final judgement. In three days, the executioner arrives and the axe falls or the pyre will be lit. Through fire or steel, your crimes will be answered. All of you bear the marks of beatings and torture from previous visits by inquisitors.
You have all been chained together in the same communal cell dressed in nothing but filthy, tattered rags that do not cover all of your parts. Manhandled and mistreated, any finery you once possessed is either ruined or long lost. No special treatment has been given any prisoner – male or female, commoner or noble – all of the forsaken are bound and imprisoned together. Your feet are secured by iron cuffs tethered by one long chain. Your arms are secured to the wall above by manacles. A guard is posted right outside the cell day and night. Little thought is given to long term accommodations. At Branderscar, justice comes swift and sure.
Escape seems hopeless. You have all been well searched and every attempt to conceal anything on your person has failed. And if you could somehow slip your bonds and fly out of this prison, where would you go? Who from your former life would want anything to do with the forsaken? Despised, alone and shackled – all that you can do now is await your doom.
There are eight of you chained in the cell. For each of you, your old life is over. For each of you, hope is a fading memory. For each of you, justice will be fairly meted. And who can blame fair Talingarde after what each of you has done?
Dot in and make initial introductions and observations. You begin with no gear, weapons, spellbooks, spell components, holy symbols or anything else. SLA may still work as do memorized spells (for those that can). Since your hands are chained you cannot cast spells that rely on gestures in addition to components. The beatings have incurred 3/4 non-lethal damage from clubs and "questionings". Feel free to ask questions. Have the standard character info in your character view boxes for easy reference.

+3 UNHOLY DOT OF EEEEVIL
the aasimar glares at his branded as the white hot metal seared into his skin resistant as he was it took quite some time, all the while the aasimar's glowed with a burning intensity as he cursed the man in celestial, spewing out all the damnations of heaven and hell he knew.
Annak Malvari |
A ragged and bruised female with long black hair chained to the wall looks up after the angelkin male howled out his curses. When she looks up the others see she is a devilkin, a Tiefling, and she whispers to the angle kin "quiet down fool... lest the guards come back in here with their clubs for us..." she puts her head back down lost in her thoughts.
so if she is chained to the wall what witch abilities can she still use? hexes?
Wade Willhelm v2 |
he spewed them mostly at those branding him, but I suppose it would also be in character to spout a few more when he's locked up the aasimar with his halo still glowing "and I suppose we're to meekly wait for our deaths then?"
Annak Malvari |
Without raising her head Annak responds "your feathers are like a Plumekith but you look and smell like an Angelkin...shouldn't you be out trying to save some innocents or praying to some holy feel good diety? What crime could you possibly have done to warrant imprisonment here angelspawn...?" She stresses the last word with a hint of acid...
Wade Willhelm v2 |
"apparently it is frowned to steal and grind bones the clergy aren't even using anymore to use as material components to magically strengthen my armor and weapons he says deadpan "and yourself?"

The young female looks up, a weak smile on her face, she wasn't feeling all to well.
"Yah, not a good thing to do, I know what you mean...."

"let the fools come close to me again i will rip into them...i will be the demon they drear"
Lillith Frostmourne |
"with your feet and arms shackled? What are you going to do? Bite them?" she asked snidely
"We're on death row, threats are useless"

Bracnos |
well i do have a bite attack
"a threat is only one until its fulfilled, then its a promise" looking as if remembering a past "promise"
Lillith Frostmourne |
"I reiterate. We are bound, on our way to the mines, pire, headsman, how ever you wish to look at it..." she rolls her eyes
-Posted with Wayfinder
Bracnos |
"the pire? funny how they'll wish to kill us in flames me for the crime of being borne...you?" he ask looking at you with a smile
Lillith Frostmourne |
"Me? I dug up fresh corpses to disect. No better place to see what makes people tick... or what MADE them tick" she gave him a wry grin

"hmm is it odd for a human to play with the dead? i see raiders do it often."
Lillith Frostmourne |
"Play? Oh no. I PLAY with the living. I STUDY the dead" she corrected him, winking as she say 'play'

"yes i see humans never grow out of children's games" he points with his chin "look a dead mouse lets poke it with a stick...humans.."shaking his head
Harken the Resister |
A muscular human male chained to the wall by his hands with not only bruises across his torso but torture scars as well growls out "SHUT YOUR BLASTED MOUTH HOLES! I AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO ESCAPE THIS ACCURSED PLACE AND YOUR JAW JACKING BOTHERS ME!" He then resumes looking around the cell."Why did i have to be in here with these disgusting horks..." he says to no one in particular.
qwerty71 |
Everyone in the cell hears the footsteps of one of the guards approaching the cell and in a few seconds a guard does appear armed with a polished and stout club in his hands (one that you have all felt before) in addition to the longsword hanging from his belt. He wears chainmail under his tunic. He takes the club and raps the cell bars. "Pipe down in there or I will douse you with cold water again.Enjoy your last days above ground reflecting on your heinous crimes and seek forgiveness from Mirta." He then turns around and moves back to his post near the jail door.

A comely dark elf also chained to the wall chuckles after the guardsman leaves. "it seems Oslo does not like you newcomers. I arrived yesterday and am destined for the same fate as you all. Dueling they said it was when all i did was protect myself from robbers. Did not matter and now I have an appointment with the headsman much like you grave robbers and murderers...
Annak Malvari |
"and yourself?"
"I was wrongfully convicted of High Theft trying to help some villagers defend themselves from bandits. now it appears they mentioned the salt mines for me..."
Lillith Frostmourne |
She couldnt believe her ears. Defending? Helping? And here she thought these people were hardened criminals and villians.
She does stay quiet though. Not a good idea for them to draw attention. She still wants to atleast die on her own terms. Not asking for death to come faster. She will not end up in that same cemetery she was found in... and what ever happened there. Corpses werent suppose to move that fast...

Bracnos |
Smiling "hmm..it seams that were destined for the mines. If what the guard said is true, it seams I will be Abel to fulfill my promises.
Bracnos |
"Haha why lie about your crime your here just admit it hahaha and plan to free your self, or just sit there and die quietly"
Harken the Resister |
"Once I free myself from here I will gladly take you with me woman" the human male says to the human female who mentioned she played with corpses. "You remind me of a tavern girl I once 'knew' in Matharyn." he says and laughs a guttural laugh.
Bracnos |
"GAURD!!! IM THRISTY"
Lillith Frostmourne |
She glares at him
"Careful. I don't always play nicely"

Wade scrunched up his face in mild disgust but feels trying to chastise harken would be fruitless so he moves on whispering "well then, now that we've had our little meet and great, does any one have any ideas for getting out of here?
Lillith Frostmourne |
"All of us could do things if only our hands or feet were free. I could easily persuade a guard to free us... but i need the use of atleast one of my arms..."

Wade whispers back to her "the idiot who just shouted actually just gave me an idea, or at least the beginnings of one, I'll tell it to you when I have it finalized."
Bracnos |
In a low voice "with all of us bound to the wall I believe the only chance for freedom will be in the transport to the mines or once were there" i could attack the guard but even if I kill him with my bite there would still be more and we don't know were or how far down in a dungeon we are
Lillith Frostmourne |
She simply nods at the Aasimar.

Turning to look at the one with the halo "yes angelspawn do tell and please let it be bloody"

Oslo the guard comes to your cell back with a bucket in his hands."Who was thirsty? Was it you?"he points to the muscled human,"Or was it you?' he points to the feathered prisoner. "I know, it was you with the demon mark, scum. Here enjoy your water! A gift from Grumblejacks cell... hahahahaha...!" he laughs as he grabs the bucket and tosses what appears to be liquid waste into the cell dousing the half orc with the marked forehead, and also splashing some on the angelkin, the dark elf and the grave robber female.

as I said it's just an opener so far, but for one, I can do this he quietly says wreathing his hands in negative energy, before quickly dismissing it hurts about as bad as a short sword or scimitar, and leaves gaping bleeding wounds, I figure we call them in with some kind of horrible racket, then have those closest to the door trip them with their legs, then I channel the negative energy through my legs and the rest of you kick, eventually they die, we get the keys off of them and equip ourselves with the weapons and armor they are no longer using, after that I'm still working on it, but give me an hour or two and I'll have something more substantial
He then pauses if any one of you have fangs or claws then that would help he says revealing his own fangs trait given I felt it was thematic EDIT, obviously this is said after the guard leaves

"I will flay the mans flesh off for that...the rest of you stop bothering the guards until halo-man comes up with a plan..." the drow female says in an icy voice...

"Tell me when your ready ill release some of my infernal blood" he says showing his large fangs as his eyes glow with hidden demonic power
Annak Malvari |
"Fine come up with a plan, but before we agree to work together I feel I should know what each of you does so I know how to assist you better. I myself consort with spirits, Annak is my name. I take it angelkin you are some sort of holy man? You are some sort of caster perhaps? I take it you burly muscle men are fighters and what do you do dark elf?"
Wade Willhelm v2 |
"other prisoner? Ok, new detail added to the plan, free whoever this grumblejack is and add him and any other prisoners to our numbers he then nods and asks "next up as you mentioned would be an itemization of skills and abilities I am gifted with various divine magics, and can heal various wounds, and have some low level mind controlling magics, as a blacksmith I also know my way around a weapon fairly well should we get our hands on some"
Zyxtyvia Darkshadow |
"I kill..." the drow female says in an icy voice...

A pale skinned man, chained like the others, sat in silence as the others yelled and debated. A grin was etched onto his face as they exchanged pleasantries. He couldn't help but laugh under his breath.
He was evidently well groomed under normal circumstances, but these were obviously no longer normal. His dark hair was matted with grime, and his skin was mottled with bruises from his previous beatings.
Holy crap, so much stuff to catch up on >.<

It has been hours since you were chained up in the cell, with nothing but the presence of your fellow condemned to keep you company. The searing pain on your forearm where you were branded is a constant reminder of the crimes you have committed, whether repentant or not. The grinning face of Sergeant Tomas Blackerly as he pressed the hot iron into your flesh is just as indelibly seered into your memory, as the scar is to the flesh. It comes as a bit of a surprise to you when you hear voices coming from the hallway outside your cell. You hear a key scrape into the lock, and the groan as the door is opened, and in comes the much hated Tomas Blackerly himself. This is the man that branded you and enjoyed it. And here he is, although not grinning like he usually does when you see him.
Blackerly scans around the room and points to Bracnos with his club “You there! That’s the scum! Get ‘em unshackled. If any of you makes trouble, they’ll earn a thrashing! Today’s your lucky day, scum. You’ve got a visitor. How you ever warranted such a fine lady is beyond me. Seems she wants to say good-bye. Now step lively. We wouldn’t want to keep her waiting.” he says in an almost slurred voice. Bracnos is unshackled by the guards and roughly manhandled out of the cell and into the hallway. Down the hall, he is pushed through a doorway and roughly sat down in a chair.
the rest of you see a small dark purple orb roll into the cell unnoticed by any of the gaurds and it stops in the center of the cell.
