In the kingdom of Talingarde, many crimes may send you to Branderscar Prison, but the sentence has but one meaning. You are wicked and irredeemable. Each of you received the same greeting when you arrived. You were held down by rough hands and branded upon the arm with a runic F given to you by a sadistic Watch Sergeant named Tomas Blackerly. The mark signifies ‘forsaken’ and the painful scar is indelible proof that each of you has betrayed the great and eternal love of Mitra and his chosen mortal vassals.
Condemned, you face at best a life of shackles and servitude in the nearby salt mines. Others might await the “gentle” ministrations of the inquisitors so that co-conspirators may be revealed and confessions extracted. Perhaps, some of you will be spared this ordeal. Perhaps instead you have come to Branderscar to face the final judgement. In three days, the executioner arrives and the axe falls or the pyre will be lit. Through fire or steel, your crimes will be answered. You bear the marks of beatings and torture from previous visits by inquisitors.
You have been chained in a cell dressed in nothing but filthy, tattered rags that do not cover all of your parts. Manhandled and mistreated, any finery you once possessed is either ruined or long lost. No special treatment has been given any prisoner – male or female, commoner or noble – all of the forsaken are bound and imprisoned together. Your feet are secured by iron cuffs tethered by one long chain. Your arms are secured to the wall above by manacles. A guard is posted right outside the cell day and night. Little thought is given to long term accommodations. At Branderscar, justice comes swift and sure.
Escape seems hopeless. You have been well searched and every attempt to conceal anything on your person has failed. And if you could somehow slip your bonds and fly out of this prison, where would you go? Who from your former life would want anything to do with the forsaken? Despised, alone and shackled – all that you can do now is await your doom.
Your old life is over. For each of you, hope is a fading memory. For you, justice will be fairly meted. And who can blame fair Talingarde after what each of you have done?

Nidjena:

You remember quietly spreading the word of Asmodeus, trying to get people to see the benefit praising Asmodeus would be in their pitiful lives. You began to preach to commoners out in small villages. Word began to spread of your oratory skills and while you did not gain as many converts as you liked, you did get some commoners to start asking questions. This proved too much for the ruling establishment and hunters were set against you. You were easily caught by them and subjected to forms of physical punishment during the travel to Branderscar due to your maiming and almost killing one of the foolish guards who let his defenses down after an ill-fated convincing smile by you to escape. The knight in charge did not make that mistake again and you paid for that attempt with bruises that cover your body. You find yourself in a cell with a few others, each of you bearing the forsaken mark with bruises covered by filth… now you just waited for a sign from your god…

Carol:

Some called you a spoiled brat, but not you, you just considered yourself….different from others. Your family never understood you. They gave you everything they wanted, but none of it was anything you wanted. They just never understood that part. Tired of hearing how you should be, or act you decided to set out on your own. Taking what you felt was your share of your possible inheritance was just a boon… and a way to rankle your parents. You spent a few years picking up skills here and there until you ran afoul of a merchant who reminded you of your parents and spoke to you as they once did. Losing your temper you did not mean to strike at him… you did not mean to stab at him…you did not mean to hurt or kill that man… well maybe you did mean it a little. Regardless you tried to stay one step ahead of the law but you were finally caught by bounty hunters and turned over to a knight for transport to a prison. Trying to escape and almost succeeding on your own he were then transferred to a worse prison. You figured out you would need some help to escape….you would not give in so easily…

Saulric:

How could they not see the true love you had for her? You were not trying to harm her, just trying to show her how much you desired her… isn’t that what all women wanted…. To be desired…? Fools for them to keep you two apart…If you could only talk to her again you could prove to her your love is real… but they keep you from her…. They do not want you and her to be together…you are not good enough for her… they told you that… you are a simple soldier…. Not a noble…you are a blacksmiths son…. Not someone on her level…. That is what they told you….you were simple not good enough for her…but you will show them… you will show her you are a the right person for her… stupid trumped up crimes against you… it was not like that at all…. Ok yes you did strike and hit a captain of the guard…and yes you did strike a noble at the scene… but they tried to get in between you and her… they were the fools not you…but you will show them…banishment to Branderscar may have been a little harsh for your crime of love…but you will not be deterred…you will figure out a way to get back to her… they will see…

Cedric:

It has been especially painful for you these last few days…severe beatings due to your parentage…a celestial kin turning away from the light…it seems as if people were more upset with you being an aasimar who was not a Mitran, than the killing which occured….you did not set upon this path lightly… this path was forced upon you by others…they killed the boy in front of you…. for no other reason that being different…to break you.. but you will not be broken…you have found your calling…someone answered your prayers…it would have been easier at the salt mines to escape but in your attempt you did manage to kill and maim some guards and the nobles decided to make an example out of you and sent to you Brandescar for you to hand or lose your head… whichever the warden wanted…and then put on display for others to see…your last attempt failed because you were alone…but Asmodeus is with you so you no longer feel alone…but your body is bruised…but not your spirit…

you begin at 1/4 health due to beatings and are fatigued...you are also chained to the wall and in rags... you all were transferred from other cells to this cell or just recently arrived at the prison and put in this cell first. there are only four people in this cell right now but space for two more...please create a stat line if you have not and a filled out profile for your character...

the chains are stout and do not budge free from the wall. the cuffs are tight and cannot be slipped out of so easily

Oslo, the meaner of the two guards, comes back to your cell back with a bucket in his hands. "Who was thirsty? Was it you?" he points to the muscled human, "Or was it you?" he points to the angelic prisoner. "I know, it was you little lady, scum. Here enjoy your water! A gift from Grumblejacks cell... hahahahaha...!" he laughs as he grabs the bucket and tosses what appears to be liquid waste into the cell almost dousing the lot of you. "Now pipe down!"

DC15 Knowledge Local:

Grumblejack is one of the very few ogres still alive on the Isle of Talingarde and was haunting the local moor making a living as a highwayman when he was caught, dragged here and branded. Two guards died getting him into this cell. He is now being kept here as a trophy by the local constabulary who are waiting for a suitable occasion to publicly execute him.

It has been hours since you were chained up in the cell, with nothing but the presence of your fellow condemned to keep you company. The searing pain on your forearm where you were branded is a constant reminder of the crimes you have committed, whether repentant or not. The grinning face of Sergeant Tomas Blackerly as he pressed the hot iron into your flesh is just as indelibly seared into your memory, as the scar is to the flesh. It comes as a bit of a surprise to you when you hear voices coming from the hallway outside your cell. You hear a key scrape into the lock, and the groan as the door is opened, and in comes the much hated Tomas Blackerly himself. This is the man that branded you and enjoyed it. And here he is, although not grinning like he usually does when you see him.

Blackerly scans around the room and points to 1d4 ⇒ 4 Cedric with his club “You there! That’s the scum! Get ‘em unshackled. If any of you makes trouble, they’ll earn a thrashing! Today’s your lucky day, scum. You’ve got a visitor. How you ever warranted such a fine lady is beyond me. Seems she wants to say good-bye. Now step lively. We wouldn’t want to keep her waiting.” he says in an almost slurred voice. Cedric is unshackled by the guards and roughly manhandled out of the cell and into the hallway. Down the hall, he is pushed through a doorway and roughly sat down in a chair.

The rest of you see a small dark purple orb roll into the cell unnoticed by any of the guards and it stops in the center of the cell...

no need to be so rough. You'll only make it worse on yourself later.

He turns towards the woman. well then, pray tell, who my lady, are you?

GoM//Glass WotW Maps//WOGH Map //

There waiting for him is a hauntingly beautiful woman in an elegant black dress and soft silken veil. She looks as if she is headed to a funeral. Her hair is so platinum as to be white, and her eyes are a vibrant unearthly green. She clearly has been weeping.
“Oh, dearest,” proclaims the unfamiliar woman in a sweet and captivating voice. “I’m so relieved you’re alive!” She quickly turns to Tomas who is just standing and looking into an unknown distance. “Could we please have a moment alone, good sir? For pity’s sake?”
Tomas goes blank for a bit and then quickly agrees. “Of course, my lady. For you,’ tis no problem.”

The captives in the cell hear this conversation coming from the purple orb in the center of the room.

As soon as the guards leave, her demeanor immediately changes. She drops all pretense of grief or concern. She is immediately all business.

“Have you forgotten me, dearest?” the unexpected visitor says with a smirk, dropping her pretense of grief. “Address me as Thiadora. We possess a mutual friend who would like to meet you and your fellow cell-mates. Unfortunately, our friend is unwilling to visit you in your present rather shabby accommodations so it seems you must escape. Don’t be so dour. Just because it’s never been done before is no reason you can’t be the first."

“If you manage that, cross the moors on the outskirts of town. On the old Moor Road you’ll see a manor house with a single lantern burning in the second story. There our mutual friend waits. That is all I know. He did want me to give you this.”

She takes off her silken veil and wipes away a few fake tears with it.

“Something to remember me by, dearest. Also your current cell will be joined by another prisoner who has items for each of you in his possession. He umm... 'volunteered' to assist in your escape. And not all the guards are here to harm you. We have found one to be very...useful...Make sure you all come out alive. The 'lover', the 'zealot', the 'killer' and you as well. You are no good to us dead. And yes we know all about your crimes and past.” she hands the veil to Cedric...

well, I don't see why you were sent here, I'm sure the "volunteer" could have done what you have either way, my apologies for you having to come to this... Lovely, place. I'll get out, and I'll bring the others once this man meets with us. However I would ask one more thing before you leave, thia, who is "us".

GoM//Glass WotW Maps//WOGH Map //

"I take it you mean who is us when I say it? Survive and follow the directions and you will find out. I wont say it here. You will need to make yourself more presentable before you see the other part of my 'us'." she says and then motions to you that she is done conversing. She gives you a brief amount of time to hide the veil.

Veil:

the veil is quite ornate and has many objects stitched into it; 2 daggers, some picks, a bullseye lantern, rope, a pouch, some clothes, a window, a potion bottle, some coins, and a religious symbol.

Looking at the veil it is obviously more than it first seemed.

Her message delivered, she rises and the guards return. Immediately, her demeanor once more changes and she is again a perfect picture of grief. “No, I can’t bear to leave you!” She blows Cedric a kiss on the cheek that stings a little.

Tomas shakes his head. “I’m afraid it’s time, miss.”

She looks deep in Tomas’ eyes and says, “Thank you for letting me say good-bye. There’s no need to search my dearest. You are such a good friend for letting me see my dearest one more time.”

“Such a good friend,” Tomas repeats his voice almost mechanical. Then the watch sergeant seems to snap out of it and bows politely. “A pleasure, madam,” She leaves unveiled. Her eyes meet Cedric's one last time and she briefly gives him a wicked smile.

“Three days,” telepathically echoes in Cedric's mind. “Don’t disappoint me, dearest.” The visitation concluded, the filthy prisoner is taken back to his cell by a cadre of guards and shackled once more. By the time the prisoner is returned the purple orb dissolves into nothingness...

The prisoners quiet down when they hear the guards outside begin to unlock and then open the outer guard door. The two mean guards and the guard they saw fidgeting earlier step through with the two mean guards dragging what appears to be an unconscious man between them.

"stay back against the wall or I will douse you again with 'liquid'!" the larger guard you heard named Otis says to the group before he unlocks and opens the door. When they protest to shackle him to the wall like you all, the corporal shows a wee bit of backbone and yells at them to just leave the body and they will shackle him when he comes to.
