Anchard is up, Shortnose is still asleep
Thrand Prymlea |
I'm glad that I left the horse tied up at the edge of camp so it wouldn't get hurt. Let's say that's enough to burn through the rope and the horse runs away for now.
Anchard Wulfphear |
Anchard runs up and tries to punch the ogre seeing as he left his staff and any semblance of weapons back by his bedroll. Though it is clearly too dangerous for an unarmed man of Anchard's size and build to confront anything.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 71d3 ⇒ 3

The flame attack burns away Valors tie down and the horse flees a safe distance away from the battle... I will allow you to save your horse this time
The ogre ignores the pitiful attack by the weaponless Anchard and resumes its goal of attacking Tanariel...

Round Three
"Tanariel! No!" exclaims the knight upon seeing the ogre knock the elf to the ground. This puts him in a bone crushing mood. He sheathes his sword, draws his mace, and continues the attack.
Mace: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Did Thrand's second round attack have any effect? Does the mace seem more effective than the sword?
Anchard Wulfphear |
"Perhaps another strategy is in order? What do you think Thrand?"
Thrand Prymlea |
Thrand replies excitedly to Anchard's question, "Arm yourself, man! This is serious. And wake Shortnose!. We need him." Not for the first time, he finds himself missing Victrix and her sword.
Anchard Wulfphear |
"I've got arms already," Anchard says waving his still steaming arms around in quite an odd manner.
"By shrews teat, How is Shortnose still asleep!?" Anchard says rolling his eyes as he strides over to wake Shortnose.
Thrand Prymlea |
She is bleeding out
Post a hit point countdown every round so we know when we absolutely must stop Tanariel's bleeding.
GM Qwerty |
The Ogre pauses for a second to pick a target to attack since Shortnose and Tzardusk are out of range at the moment...
Random A-T-T: 1d3 ⇒ 1 and takes a few swings at Anchard who looked like he was going to wake the sleeping warrior...

Thrand continues beating the ogre with his heavy mace hoping to fell the fearsome creature in time to save his lady.

Tzardüsk |
Tzardusk fires at the ogre again.

Thrand Prymlea |
Does the ogre get that AoO against Anchard even if Anchard uses the withdraw action? Maybe next time he can just throw a shoe at Shortnose to wake him.
GM Qwerty |
Tzardusk misses the ogre once more and spends his time re-loading the crossbow watching the Ogre take a step and bring his great club down on the sleeping Shortnose...who goes splat...and Tzardusk lets a little smile escape from his mouth as if he never really liked the bald human...
the Ogre turns to Thrand and beckons him to come forward...
Tanariel and Anchard both wail out as they lay dying that Thrand failed to protect them...
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
and Thrand hears distant voices that sound oddly enough like his companions voices but not coming from their dying bodies but from within his head....
Soon Thrand finds himself lying on the ground by the campfire, being shook awake with Anchard, Tanariel and Tzardusk all kneeling beside the cavalier with worried looks on their faces...
Thrand Prymlea |
Thrand screams unintelligibly, then lunges forward to wrap his hands around Tzardüsk's throat. He starts squeezing and shouts, "I'll kill you! I'll tear your head off! I'll rip your guts out and strangle you with them! I..." before realizing it was all a dream. "I am terribly sorry." says the knight, loosening his grip on the half-orc. "I thought you were the ogre... I must have been dreaming. You're alive! You're all still alive. Praise Pelor! Whose watch is it? The horses! Where are the horses?! Valor!"
Tzardüsk |
Tzardusk falls back into the dirt.. gasping and grabbing at his throat... "That must have been SOME dream, Thrand." he croaks out... "Don't do that again, please!"
Thrand Prymlea |
Thrand is still brooding over last night's nightmare adventure when he wakes. He scarfs down a simple trail ration breakfast and immediately sets to work breaking camp and seeing to the horses.
GM Qwerty |
The next day the party continues their movement towards Berwyn. They pass through the town of Braxem along the way which is really nothing more than a collection of close thorps connected by close roads and proximity. It seems this town is recovering from some sort of raid and after talking to locals who seem distrustful of Lady Tanariel and the knight accompanying her tell Anchard the priest that an orc raid came through the area killing some local farmers. The raiders then went east towards the druid grove but rumors are the raiders were attacked and killed near there.
Once the locals in Braxem hear the party is going towards Berwyn a few comment that they have received no news from that village in a day or two. The other villagers eye the loaded supplies the group is carrying but none dare challenge the knight and mercenary. The party finds the trail that leads to Berwyn and take it south.
Thrand Prymlea |
That makes sense. Do I know why they are distrustful of me?
Townsfolk: "Oh look, shovels! Having those would make digging so much easier. No more digging with spoons. We simply must have them!"
GM Qwerty |
The group travels on towards Berwyn and travel for the most part unmolested by others. Towards dusk off in the distance they see the first sight of Berwyn. There are no signs of war on her walls nor signs of pillaging along the outer houses right outside the town but the town itself is walled up tight.
The party nudges their mounts and pack animals on-wards and off in the distance near the edge of a woodline and clearing the group hears some howling. They judge it to be a few hundred meters away...
Nature DC 15 for me to reveal if you want to know
Please list the order of march on horses. Also number the pack animals by number and state what each one is carrying for a load. Also please let me know who is leading one of the pack animals. If Shortnose is still absent you may use him too but roll for him
Tzardüsk |
know nature dc 15: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Tzardusk has no idea what the howling might be from... "I don't like the sound of that... gives me the chills."
Anchard Wulfphear |
"A worg and it's pack maybe? It woundn't be the first time Shortnose and I have had a run in with that situation." Anchard sits up in his saddle with a stiff straight back and eyes wide open on the look out of trouble.
Tzardüsk |
"The presence of worgs is not good, as it means orcs are probably not far. Shall we continue to the town and help defend against them? If they are distrustful of orcs, best I keep my hood up though."
Tzardüsk |
Tzardusk has no handle animal skill but can still lead a pack animal I think unless there is a problem like predators or something else that might make it skittish
Thrand Prymlea |
I cannot find if we already specified how many pack horses there are. It was some multiple of five - either ten or fifteen or twenty. Let's say that there are ten pack horses, that the emergency supplies are more or less distributed evenly among them, and that each of us leads two by default.
Supplies per horse (10 lbs carrots, 2 lbs cheese, 2 lbs honey, 1 lb maple syrup, 20 lbs flour, 10 lbs potatoes, 5 lbs salted pork, 5 lbs smoked fish, 5 lbs venison jerky, 4 peasant's outfits, 60 common arrows, 2 incendiary arrows, 12 crossbow bolts, 6 sling bullets, 1 sling, 40' hempen rope, 1 handaxe, 2 sq yds thick leather, 1 longspear, 10 lbs lamp oil, 1 saw, 2 heavy wooden shields, 4 shovels, 1 sledge, 1 bear trap,
40% chance of block and tackle,
40% chance of grappling hooks,
50% chance flint and steel,
50% chance artisan's tools,
50% chance whetstone)
We also have the two guard dogs who run alongside Thrand and Valor. IIRC, Thrand had a riding horse for most of the journey so as not to tire Valor, but this close to Berwyn he'll be riding Valor in full war gear.
Tzardüsk |
okay, T. will lead 2 animals then.
Thrand Prymlea |
Sir Thrand, who had been riding at the head of the column with the Lady Tanariel, listens uneasily to the howling. Being untrained in such matters, he takes the howlers for mere wolves. Upon hearing more expert opinion, he says. "Worgs?! Here, Shortnose, take the pack horses. Everyone else, prepare yourselves for battle. This could get bloody." The knight readies his lance and shield.
Shortnose in the back with the pack horses, Thrand up front. Tanariel may fall back or stay with Thrand. Clerics/shamans in the middle to start? Does this sound reasonable?
Tzardüsk |
sounds good to me
