GoM//Glass WotW Maps//WOGH Map //

Use this thread to discuss events back in the Free City of Greyhawk.

Please post in character if you want to continue in the campaign. I will shut the other threads down temporarily until the next mission brief after Spring Break.

If you are new or are bringing in new characters please provide some background info on why/how you made it to the hostel run by the monk Kolwyk.

If you are a returning party member just continue on as before.

A mountain of a man has sunk into a rather comfortable looking chair set by the fireplace. He is reading what looks to be a very interesting book filled with plenty of vibrant illustrations of gods and heroes and monsters. The man is smoking a pipe. A clay tankard of rum rests on a small table next to the chair. An absurdly large hammer with a spiked head - Or is it an absurdly large meat tenderizer? What is he cooking, dragons? - rests against the chair on the other side. The man's head is clean shaven, unlike his face which is covered with a thick, black, bushy beard. He glances up as you walk in and nods by way of greeting before returning his gaze to the book.

Returning from his latest missive, Anchard spends his free time mostly questioning his decision to be so far from home. Friends were few and the majority of those were travellers themselves. Though this depressing line of thinking was countered by thoughts of what his peers and the other flame priests were like back home; extreme zealots at their best or worst depending on where a person was standing.

After a day or two Anchard was ready to get back into things, and so he purchased a new set of armor to wesr over his red robes, and considered the purchase of wonderous baubles that would aid him in his channeling of Jeromy's power.

The grey elf will return to the city of Greyhawk and will go to a library in order to read up more on the foes they have fought, the extra planar, as well as to add spells to her spellbook.

Each day seemed the same since coming back to the city after their heroics against the orcs. He had written a missive to be sent to the family of the elven warriors whose bow he bared, a letter telling how one of their bloodline fought so bravely, and how he had taken up his bow and used it to take revenge on the orcs who slew him... He was sitting quietly in the hostel looking at the note in consternation at the wording.

Half an hour passes before the heavily armored brute reaches the end of the chapter. He sighs, closes his book, and sets it on the table, careful not to disturb the contents of his mug. He then rises and taps the ashes from his pipe into the fireplace. He stretches mightily while looking around the room. His gaze focuses on you and he comes over to strike up a conversation. You learn that the man's full name is Antonio Albrecht Armiger. That name sounds familiar, but you can't quite place it. He offers you rum and the use of his spare pipe. Over the course of the conversation you learn that Antonio works for a mercenary company - The Bloodaxe Battalion led by old Corwyn Bloodaxe himself - and Antonio alone is on special assignment to Kolwyk while the rest of the company is off fighting in the east. Aha! You remember. Antonio Albrecht Armiger is "Tripe A", the famous pit fighter from several years back.

Would I be able to add spells to her spellbook with the money that she earned?

Over the ensuing days, Antonio convinces Master Kolwyk to begin teaching him the ways of the monk. They practice kata together every morning, and spar most afternoons. Antonio may lack the discipline necessary to become a true monk, but he has the potential to become a powerful unarmed fighter. One evening, after a rigorous sparring session and a steaming hot bath, Antonio returns to the hostel to discover Kithariel.

"Well hello there, little lady." the tough man says gruffly. "Oh yeah! How about joining me for a drink? What's your poison?"

"Brandy it is." Antonio pours the elvish lass a drink and hands it to her. "I'm not Kolwyk, though he is around here somewhere. My name is Antonio. I'm a mercenary. Kolwyk hired me to protect some adventurers he's got working for him. A few of them have arrived, but the rest seem to be taking their sweet time showing up. What's your name, sister, and what do you do for a living? Did Kolwyk hire you to keep me company? That was mighty considerate of him."

I'm not a mercenary, nor a good-time-girl, though I'm happy to keep you company, though not in that way, I think. And no, Kolwyk didn't 'hire' me... though he might in time perhaps. I haven't met him yet... I heard he was in need of those with some skill. I was hoping to perhaps train with him and prove my worth at least." She pauses and sips her brandy, takes a sharp breath. "Whoooh, that's strong.. I must admit, I've only ever had wine before... though I'd heard brandy was good. It is! but strong! oh dear!... I'd best be cautious of how much I imbibe... this stuff could go right to my head."

"So you're a mercenary, eh? what is it you do, exactly, to protect these adventurers? Aren't 'adventurers' by their very definition, somewhat good at protecting themselves? Or do you protect them FROM themselves?" she chuckles at her minor jest.

He sat quietly in the corner watching the man in armor speak with the new elf, his mind temporarily distracted from the letter he was trying to pen in front of him. Quietly he continued to watch.

The faerie grey elf enters into the room. Her robes clean and the miles from the road washed off, her golden hair combed back. The beauty of the grey elves as well as their dignity most apparent in this daughter of Celene. Seeing a friendly elven face she walks over to where Cerian is sitting and inquires in elven

Elven:
It is good to see you again Cerian of the Woods, may I join you?

Her eye brow raises when she sees the new elf.

What kind of elf is Kithariel?

Hearing her native tongue, albeit softly from across the room, Kit looks over for a moment, her eyes flashing lavendar in the low light of the room. While she has the look, attire and bearing of a high elf, her hair is light, almost white, and her eyes violet, traits which are atypical for that race.

Antonio is clearly disappointed when Kithariel denies being a "good-time-girl", but he rallies himself and is certain to keep her glass filled for the remainder of the evening.

He responds to Kithariel's initial comments by saying, "Well, there's adventurers, and then there's adventurers. Let's just say that your chances of survival greatly increase with me fighting by your side."

He notices that everyone here is an elf except for himself just as Kit makes the same observation. He frowns. Oh crap! What has Kolwyk gotten me into? Still, coin is coin, so I'd better make the most of it. "I believe these are my charges, but we've not been formally introduced. We've all been busy reading or writing or exploring the city. I suppose now's as good a time as any for introductions. Hi. I'm Antonio and this here's Kithariel. Who are you?"

With a knowing nod the grey elf states

Elven:

Male Elf Ranger 2/ rogue 2 HP 29/29 | AC 17;13 t ;14 ff | F: +3 R: +9 W: +2 || Skill:Perception +11,Stealth +10, Sense Motive +5,

He was about to speak when the large armored fellow spoke and after a moment he realized it was directed to he and lady Tanariel.

"I mean no disrespect my large friend, but I am no man's charge but my own. That being said, I am Cerian Brandoniale Screamingtrees, of the Phostwoods to the north, but more recently of Tannin street here in this fine city. Well met."

He said simply rising to his feet and offering the man his 'sword' arm. He next clutched his fist to his chest and offered the elven maiden a formal bow, well awkwardly. She clearly wasnt a wood elf, she no doubts had... higher formal expectations like the grey elves he had met in his travels.

He pulled out his chair proffering it to the new maiden and half turning to grab another chair... but sliding his hand over the table and collecting the parchment he was writing upon and setting it in his pack before he set it down to the side.

"I had meant to ask you Lady Tanariel, the details of your groups travels?"

He began after waiting for the grey elven wizard to introduce herself.

The grey elf replies to the wood elf

Elven:
We traveled to a town, whose Lord had recently died. It turns out, murdered by his son who in an attempt to gain power and wealth and prestige made an arrangement with a fiend. The town was soon laid seige by orcs but we were able to defeat the son and restore an item of protection to keep fiendish powers from over taking the castle again. Without a Lord, Thrand decided to stay behind to rule the people. A group of my people and dwarves did arrive to help turn the tide of battle, but we were not privy to most of the battle, as we were in the depths of the castle dealing with the son and his machinations

The grey elf, then looks at the high elf

Elven:
One would think that the way you carry on child, that you had been raised by humans rather than the high elves. You bring disgrace to your kin.

Kithariel lofts a quizzical brow at Tanariel, wondering a bit about her accusation based on nothing but a trivial bit of conversation.

Elven:
What is sad, child, is that you actually believe what you just said.
as she turns back to the wood elf.

It's good to be among people again... not that my grandfather wasn't 'people' but he is old, you know? Venerable, but with old ideas too." She wrinkles her nose a little.. Antonio is careful to grip Cerian's hand with enough strength to prove his manliness, but not so strongly that he crushes the elf's hand. He is slightly annoyed at being surrounded by elves speaking in their native tongue, not just because he cannot understand them, but also because elven reminds him of the druidic language spoken by his former masters. He keeps this to himself. It isn't the elves fault what happened to him.

Antonio responds to Cerian, "I used to fight in the arena. I was pretty good at it, too. They used to call me "Triple A". Now I fight with a mercenary company. Master Kolwyk is renting my services while my brothers-in-arms fight to the east. Are you the only survivors from your previous mission?" I hope not. The monk Kolwyk comes into the hostels main room where you all are sitting. He says to the gathered group...

"Events within the Flanaess have gone from bad to worse. Rumors abound of armies marching to and fro. It seems all the nations of the land will erupt into war. Iuz has returned to his walk the lands as well. If he is present then demons wont be far behind. The mad King out east is slaughtering his own and making pacts with devils. And I fear the orbs have gone silent. Not a peep out of them in these last few days which is strange. They may be on another plane fighting or they may be gone... I know not. I do know you all are still needed. This group has lost two teams already and our numbers are stretched thin. You all will need to prepare yourselves for a dangerous mission to the east. We sent a team to Ratik based on rumors of a powerful ancient artifact that could be used for summoning other-planar creatures. We cannot let that artifact fall into the wrong hands and the team we sent have not sent back word of their current status. I fear they may be lost. You all need to go to Ratik and find this artifact before agents of Iuz, the Overking or anyone else finds it. Bring it here or destroy it. Here is some gold to help you prepare. With the influx of merchants there are many items to purchase in the city now. I have engaged a teleportation specialist to move you rapidly to Ratikhill where you can begin your search. Last report suggests the last team was preparing to search the nearby mountains. It seems the Flanaess will soon erupt in fire if you all fail." he sits down after tossing enough pouches on the table for one for each of you.

the pouches contain enough gold to fit your character out to 5.5 k including what you already have and what you can buy in the city.

During your travels some of you may have come across tidbits of information regarding Ratik and the area around it.

DC 15 Geography:

Ratik is a small but prosperous nation located in the northeastern corner of the Flanaess. It is seated in a cultural crossroads between the otherwise civilized south of the former Aerdi Great Kingdom and the barbaric north of the Suel on the Thillonrian
Peninsula. Ratik stretches between the Rakers and the Solnor Coast, where the modest city of Marner, the capital, is its only major port. Its southern border is marked by the fortified hills separating Ratik from Bone March. These extend east all the way out to the Loftwood, where the hearty woodsmen are allied with the archbarony.

-----------------

DC 15 Nature:

The climate of Ratik is wintry much of the year, with heavy snows swollen with moisture from the Solnor falling steadily during the height of Telchur's sway. The windswept Timberway remains the greatest focus of the realm. It is a hunting ground that produces
the pelts and furs used widely in the dress of the nation. It also provides Ratik with its greatest bounty, the timber and shipbuilding supplies that drive much of the economic activity of the archbarony.

-----------------

DC 15 Local:

Ratik's northern border divides the Timberway between itself and the Frost Barbarians, a long-standing informal boundary that has been respected by both sides for centuries and only recently was
acknowledged by formal treaty. While these barriers have profoundly isolated Ratik from the rest of the Flanaess, they also have served to protect it from invaders for centuries. Ratik is populated chiefly by folk of Aerdi descent, with an Oeridian-Suel mix being common. Few Flan are here, though many Fruztii and some Schnai are present, expatriate farmers from their homelands. Dwarves and gnomes are numerous in rougher lands. Only humans prefer the coasts, where their fishing villages are located. Ratik is well settled despite being located so far north of the population centers of the former Great Kingdom, partly because so many refugees fled here from Bone March. Of all the northern lands in the east Ratik has embraced arcane magiks and has a small but prosperous wizard academy where the Fruztii have been known to send a few of their number to attend in the hopes of creating warmages for their Kingdom. Since the population of Ratik is not that great, the Kingdom employs many mercenaries and adventurers to help secure its lands, especially on the borders, while the Ratik official standing army keeps to the populated areas.

DC 15 Nobility:

While the rulership of the realm rests completely with the hands of the baron or baroness, its lord takes counsel with numerous constituencies, including the Council of Great Lords (fourteen human and dwarven peers), as well as the burghers of the small cities and towns. The current baron is Lexnol who is elderly and tired after the death of his son. Baroness Lady Evaleigh, the widowed stepdaughter of old Baron Lexnol, has taken more of a daily interest in the political affairs of Ratik which is not appreciated by many of the noble houses. Baroness Evaleigh is mistrusted by many in the kingdom, for she was not born in Ratik and does not always seem to understand its precarious position. It was the old baron who won the trust of the Fruztii and negotiated a treaty with their king. The dwarf and gnome lords respect decisiveness, and Evaleigh has shown little during her recent climb to power. While the military is loyal to the crown, many grumble that the count of Knurl, Evaleigh's father, has grown far too influential in the affairs of Marner. Lexnol had been working on a treaty with the Schnai to shore up his position against Bone March and its allies in the Great Kingdom, but these efforts are currently in shambles. Few things would please the Overking more than to see this realm succumb to chaos. As the wars arise, Baron Lexnol is getting older and Lady Evaleigh is getting bolder.

DC15 History:

General Sir Pelgrave Ratik of Winetha, a wily veteran of the barbarian campaigns, appointed in 122 CY to oversee an expedition that would attempt to drive the Aerdi frontier all the way to the foothills of the Griff Mountains. Ratik and his forces inaugurated their expedition by crossing Kalmar Pass, taking the town of Bresht in a blustery winter campaign that cost the Fruztii dearly. After brokering an alliance with the dwarven lords of the eastern Rakers, Ratik proceeded to force a retreat of the Fruztii up the narrow coast and into the northern fastness of the Timberway. He wisely refused to follow them into an obvious trap and instead broke off the pursuit and fortified his gains. He was immediately hailed a hero in the south and his legend grew quickly. Lands were established in his name and after many years they either broke away or were forgotten by the Aerdi and the independent nation of Ratik was born. After centuries those on the Aerdi throne always sought to re-take Ratik but have never been able to muster enough forces or political will to do so.

shopping list/ early research:
With the mission given, Cerian would first go to the church of Wee Jas and pray for his loved one to look after him on this mission, then he would speak with the clergy there about demons and how to combat them. Assuming they can give him the basic knowledges i know as a player but he wouldnt (you know cold iron good, basic resistances etc...)
research knowledge planes: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 if you need a roll
He would purchase. +1 magic for his bow, + frost enchantment for his bow (2000, and 2000 repsectively) 20 cold iron arrows (40 gp i think i overcharged myself it said it was double, and 20 cost 1 gold but 2 gold seemed too cheap, let me know if i can adjust it down) a MW cold iron Falchion, (450gp) A bandolier (8 slots)(5 sp) 8 iron vials (8 sp total) Pitons x 10(1 gp total) A snapleaf pendant/badge (750 gp) 2 potions of cure light (100 gp total) 1 oil of align weapon (300 gp)

If i were able to only pay the 2 gold for the cold iron arrows, i would add a 3rd cure light potion which would leave me with 25 gold, 10 silver 8 copper for the purchases.

If we are doing half off the things we sell back that total comes to

battleaxe - 5gp, hand axe - 3 gp, leather armor - 5 gp, longbow - 34.5 gp for a total of 47 gold 5 silver.

To which i would add a potion of protection from evil - 50 gp

leaving me with 22 gold, 15 silver, 8 copper.

In the time we have been here resting would I be able to work on more of those camoflauge suits? I had three done if I recall and enough things to make 2 more?
craft camoflauge: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
craft camoflauge: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
knowledge nature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
knowledge history: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
