As you make your way back to Pharaoh's Reach, the afternoon sun beats upon you.

The four scared surviving slave girls follow quietly in tow.


Will we make it back before sundown or should we make camp?

At your current pace, you will make it back to Pharaoh's Reach by sundown.

I make sure Boiid and the female slaves are well hydrated for the journey.


I trudge along, quietly humming a tune that sounds like a lullaby. It seems to calm the slaves a little, but I don't notice. Oops.


"I am carrying way too much s~$*..." I say as I rummage through all my pockets for absolutely nothing.

"We will arrive at the Bazaar soon enough. We must move as quickly as we can, there may yet be straggling members of the cult about, or worse things hiding beneath the sand."

Another hour passes by, the sun starts to sink into the horizon as the late afternoon cools down. The sounds of barking reach your ears, and as you climb the next dune, you see a small scouting party of gnolls and hyenas.

Jen moves closer to the pack I10 and unleashes a fire ray at the first Hyena D5

Lia draws her crossbow and fires at the hyena in E4. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 to hit.

Ray'lyn draws her bow and fires two arrows at a gnoll C4. I also motion to Boiid to stay near the slaves and protect them.

The pack moves forward, two hyenas try to surround Jen while the gnolls advance and ready their spears.

Hyena1 Bite 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Throat Slash:

Normal Damage and 2d6 Bleed. Target cannot talk or breathe while bleeding.

Bite Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Bleed Damage 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4

Hyena2 Bite 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Bite Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

The first hyena lunges at Jen and tears a chunk from his throat, but the other hyena nips and misses.

Gurgling, Jen tries to slash at the hyena who tore his throat with his falchion.

The exertion takes its toll on Jen as he loses more blood from the gaping wound in his neck.

Ray'lyn moves behind Jen J10 and uses cure light wounds

Boiid lumbers to my side J9 and attacks the hyena in front of him.

Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Trying to keep the map as updated as possible.

Ray'lyn's magic courses through Jen's body as his throat closes. Two hyenas lie dead with the third wounded by Boiid's mace of a tail.


I move to H 12. Then wait.

Cheliax (Male Hagspawn Witch 13/Souldrinker 2)

Rushing forward, two gnolls surround Arture while a third swings wide to attack Boiid with the hyena. A fierce looking gnoll wielding a flail hangs back and barks orders at his lackeys.

Gnoll:
"Take them down, you whelps! More meat for the fire! Attack the injured!"

Hyena attacking Boiid 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

The hyena lunges forward, but its teeth meet only the hard armored plates of the dinosaur's hide.

H11 Gnoll attacking Arture 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Losing its footing in the sand the gnoll's spear completely misses Arture.

G12 Gnoll attacking Arture 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Taking a moment to mock its friend, the second gnoll's attack is easily evaded as well.

J8 Gnoll attacking Boiid 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

The gnoll assisting the hyena drives a powerful strike to the squat dinosaur, but the spear harmlessly glances off Boiid's back.

The slave women huddle in fear, afraid to move, afraid to run.

Gritting my teeth, I bring my falchion down upon the hyena.

Falchion Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage 2d4 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 3 + (1) = 11

Jen's falchion swings true and with a whine, the hyena now lies in a smoldering lump upon the sand. The pets are all slain, only the gnoll masters remain alive.


I bring my crossbow to bear against the gnoll in F10.

1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 1 = 24 to hit

Damage: 1d10 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 = 11

(Female Half-orc Cleric/5 (Gozreh))

I take a step forward beside Jento I11, pitting my stance solidly I draw my trident and send its weight hurling into the next gnoll H11.

Trident Attack 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 1 = 24
Damage 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8

With a quick motion of my hand I signal Boiid to attack the nearest gnoll to him J8.

Tail Attack 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 1 = 19
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6


I throw a bomb at H11, with my newly honed precise skills choose not to have splash damage hit myself or Jen...unless I miss of course.

Bomb Throw 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Damage 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (5, 4, 2) + 5 = 16

Splash Damage is 8

Lia's bolt sinks into the Packmaster's shoulder, howling in pain in barks out.

Gnoll:
"She dies by my hands."

Running around Arture and the gnolls he is engaged with, the Packmaster moves right next to Lia K13

The gnoll beside Arture and in front of Ray'lyn H11 succumbs to a fiery explosion as it is lanced with a trident, and the bomb's splash singes the fur of its comrade G12.

Boiid thumps the gnoll he is squaring off with J8

The gnoll reeks of burning hair as it does its best to stab Arture with its spear.

G12 Gnoll Attacking Arture 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage (if it hits) 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Once more the gnoll tries to stab Boiid,

J8 Gnoll attacking Boiid 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

and once more the spear skirts off his plates.

"Be careful, Lia!"

I run behind the Packmaster to assist Lia move to J13 so you get a flanking bonus

Falchion Attack 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 = 14
Damage 2d4 + 2 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 + (1) + 1 = 9

Jen misses with his falchion, but the gnoll becomes easier to hit now that it is boxed in. Flanking provides +2 on attack rolls

Lia continues her song as she runs behind the Packmaster while he is distracted and fires point-blank into his body.

The Packmaster laughs as both Jen and Lia's attacks go wild and he remains unscathed.

Gnoll Language:
"Weak little pups we have here."

Moving quickly to the Packmaster's side, K12 I notch an arrow and say in gnoll,

gnoll:
"I killed your jackal queen and I'll send you to the sand too little pup."

Raising my bow, I aim to sink both arrows into the creatures stinking hide.

First arrow 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 10
Damage 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11

Second arrow 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 26
Damage 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 = 8

Boiid continues to attack the gnoll in front of him.

Tail attack 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 1 = 21
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5


"FIRE ON THE GNOLL!" I shout as I through a bomb at the singed gnoll on G12.

Bomb to hit 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Damage 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1) + 6 = 16

With my precise skill I cause no splash damage on myself.

Ray'lyn's first arrow misses the Packmaster, but the second one drives home.

Arture's bomb leaves gnoll bits scattered about the desert floor.

DM Roll:
J8 Gnoll Will save 1d20 ⇒ 10

Seeing its pack decimated, the gnoll facing off with Boiid turns and flees. Boiid gets an Attack of Opportunity against the J8 Gnoll

Snarling, the Packmaster brings his heavy flail down upon Lia.

Heavy Flail Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Critical Hit

Breathless:
Normal damage and target is exhausted for 1d4 rounds. 1d4 ⇒ 4

Damage 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Exhausted:
An exhausted character moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –6 penalty to Strength and Dexterity.

Once more I slash my falchion at the Packmaster.

Falchion Attack 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 + 2 = 12

Missing again, the frustration is evident on my face. In Common, "If steel will not end you, perhaps it is time to turn to fire."


I fire at the pack master once again.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 1 + 2 = 26

Damage: 1d10 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 = 11

(Female Half-orc Cleric/5 (Gozreh))

With a snort, Boiid lumbers after the fleeing gnoll. Moves to E8 and attacks

Tail Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 3

I notch another pair of arrows and shoot at the Packmaster.

Arrow 1 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 18
Damage 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12

Arrow 2 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 2 + 1 = 17
Damage 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10

Lia's shot buries into the Packmaster, who is then peppered by two more shots by Ray'lyn. Boiid clips his foe with his heavy tail.

Blood weeps from the bolt and arrow wounds in the Packmaster, but he remains standing, a fierce hate burning in his eyes.

"DIE DIE DIE!" I throw a bomb at the Pack Master, and precisely aim it so no one gets hit with splash damage! Assuming I hit, of course.

To hit : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

To hurt: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2) + 6 = 18

Nerve Cluster:
Normal damage and target is stunned for 1d6 rounds (Fort save each round to act)

The Packmaster howls in agony as his body is engulfed in flame. Momentarily, the gnoll is paralyzed with pain before the bomb consumes him. A smoking black furry lump rests in the sand.

The remaining gnoll flees for its life across the dunes, running as fast as its legs will take it. Unless you wish to pursue, the gnoll is gone.

The slave girls huddle together in fear, but relieved to be alive thanks to the party's efforts.

I borrow Jin's falchion once more and behead each body in turn to ensure they cannot rise again as undead or atleast do so at great cost. Whistling to Boiid, I call him near to look him over and make sure he isn't wounded.

Heal 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

"Everyone come close so I can tend to your wounds."

channel energy3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2) = 5

"We should hurry on towards the bazaar before more of those mongrel pups arrive."


"Let's double time it!"

Just as the sun slips below the horizon, you reach the walls of Pharaoh's Reach. The guards hurry you inside before shutting the heavy gate doors.

Gate of Pharaoh's Reach

Although the day is drawing to a close, the town is by no means ready to slumber. Lanterns are being lit as patrons and customers still hustle and bustle through the bazaar.

A few red lanterns are also being lit by the tavern and brothel.

Knowledge (local) DC 15:
Red lighting is commonly used to announce the commodity of evening companionship, but also to ward away evil creatures known as Divs.

Merchants ply their wares, quieter than during the day, but just as fervently.


"We must make camp or find a place to rest. I need to recreate my stock of explosives."

(Female Half-orc Cleric/5 (Gozreh))

I make my way through the bustling crowd back to the owner of the slave women, keeping Boiid close to my side to avoid him getting lost in the throngs of people and also to aid my own movement through the city as people quickly move aside to make way for the lumbering dinosaur.

Walking up to the slave owner I guide the girls back into their proper holding cells.

"We managed to save all but one. Unfortunately, we didn't reach her in time to stop her from being transformed into a monstrosity but we were able to ensure that her death was quick and as painless as possible. I believe you agreed to compensate us with 150 pieces of gold per slave returned alive."
