Coup de Grace automatically hit and score a critical. If the damage doesn't outright kill the opponent, then it must make a Fort Save of 10 plus damage dealt or die...so in the RAW, Albreck didn't actually miss. If this is a DM ruling however...
Myrp moves forward losing a crossbow bolt at the prone character when adjacent. If he can't get there this round he will simply move to within 20 feet and wait.
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10 firing missile weapon at prone target.

It made its save and didn't die from the damage dealt....now with the damage you caused it, that put it over the amount needed to off it
Following up on Albrek attack Myrp puts the final dog to rest for good. with that the warehouse grows silent as the sounds of battle end.
Tony Nedraid |
"Alright then; let's see if they're still alive and bandage them. Search them for anything that might tell us why they wanted that girl in the first place. Ekard, did you see why they wanted to make the meeting here?"
Tony wipes the blood off his blade and sheathes it.
Ekard Keller |
Grumbling over his bad luck, Ekard hops down from the platform and scampers up a stack of crates to retrieve his sling. He stows it away.
"Near as I can tell, these guys were going to off the Pale Dogs delivering the girl. They didn't let anything else slip while I was in here, except that you, Tony, are about as sneaky as a draft horse walking down a road full of pots and pans." Ekard grins.
"We should probably search them over, then check out the place. Chances are the people that own the warehouse might be involved in this. I'd like to know who has the guts to double-cross the Pale Dogs."
"Hmm...you think that these guys are elven has anything to do with it? You don't see many elf underworld types in this city."
Ekard Keller |
I think you're right. We should probably go with Tony's idea and take 20.
Ekard suggests: "You know, we've got the better part of the night. Best we do things properly and take our time. Albrek can take a position near the back door and holler if anyone else comes by. The rest of us can roll these guys and then search over the rest of the warehouse. I think we ought to start with the offices."
Chelin Karos |
If we are taking 20 then I get a massive 22.
Checking to make sure that the others are looking relatively unhurt, Chelin will pick up his Javelins and then set off to begin digging through the house along with the others.
He will flash a grin at Railina's comment, giving a shake of his head. "No one could do that, mi'lady." He will consider Ekards words though. "Are there any elven gangs that run in the city that you may have encountered before?"
Lord T |
The elf on the platform has the follow: a well made suit of chainmail armor, a beautifully crafted heavy steel shield,a good quality longsword, a finely crafted heavy crossbow, 16 bolts, a vial of some sort of blue potion, 21 gp, 15 sp, 4 cp, and a folded up note.
The elf down below has: his longsword is very well crafted, and that the studded leather is also very well crafted. He also has a short bow of normal crafting, 20 arrows, set of thieves tools, 19 sp and a gold ring.
the warehouse has nothing of value in it aside from basic food stuffs and various box of pottery.
The folded up note has sloppy hand writing on it is says:
Vagger,
I need you for a job, come by my home tomorrow we will discuss your fee and bring Lucio along as well and those mutts they will come in handy for this job.
T.C.
Lord T |
Albrek looks at the elf's chain mail appreciatively. "Would you consider it ghoulish if I took this armor? It is better than my own, but I do question the legality of walking around this city wearing a dead man's armor."
Appraise, on te weapons/armor: 1d20+5
All of the following are masterwork quality items: chainmail, studded leather, both longswords, heavy crossbow, heavy steel shield. The short bow is normal quality.
Ekard Keller |
"Hm. And so the question becomes: Who is T.C.?" Tony looks down at the bodies. "In hindsight, we really should have taken at least one alive."
Ekard pulls his sap from under his vest and slaps it in his hand. "I tried, Tony, but you beat me to the strike. No matter, we'll puzzle it out somehow."
Albrek looks at the elf's chain mail appreciatively. "Would you consider it ghoulish if I took this armor? It is better than my own, but I do question the legality of walking around this city wearing a dead man's armor."
"Albrek, I'm gonna strip it off his corpse and take it to the armorer for coin anyway, which you can use your share of to buy new armor. Or, you can take his; it'll be fine after a good cleanin'. If it keeps you in a fight, I won't begrudge you the money I'd get from selling it. He was a kidnapper and a murderer besides. It's no less than he deserves."
Ekard furrows his brow in concentration. Knowledge(local) check on the initials "T.C." in connection to anyone he might see as willing to eliminate Phon to avoid scandal or just to avoid problems (which in his mind would be crime bosses, nobles, or members of the more uppity priesthoods.):1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

No one comes to mind when you're thinking of the various crime boss that you know of that haunt various parts of the The Warrens or other parts of Ptolus.
Chelin Karos |
Chelin considers the mans' words for a moment before shaking his head. "I see no problem. These were not honorable men and we defeated them fairly. We are very different than thieves in this, we are warriors who are now keeping what they have won."
Having thought through the ramifications on his honor of this with the serious look upon his face, the gnome suddenly brightens back to his normal self, a grin crossing his face. "Besides, that stuff won't fit me."
Tony Nedraid |
After some thinking, Tony proposes action.
"Brother Fabitor might possibly recognize the handwriting, or maybe know who "T.C." is. Both he and Phon move in the same circles after all. That should be our first action.
"Secondly, if that doesn't work, we find these two thugs homes and search them. We may be able to turn up something like a clue there."
He looks around. "Nothing else? Then come! There is not a moment to lose!" Tony leads the charge out of there...
Ekard Keller |
"Perhaps if we could search these two's homes there might be some clues as to who they worked for. Does anyone know how we can find out?"
"This T.C. person addressed the note to one of them, Vagger. We could always use the name and description to try and find out where he lives. Talking to Fabitor or Phon seem like good ideas too. Especially Phon. She might not know why someone was trying to kidnap her, but if she recognizes the initials, we might be able to fill in some blanks."
Pol Voron |
Not really minding the conversation around him, Pol decides to take to keep the shortbow, in case something like this happened again. Oh, and the arrows.
Though, he does quite agree with talking to Phon first. "If this T.C.realizes Phon had gotten away, he might take a more direct approach." He continues.
"Do you think we should call Tony back?" He muses, as he watches Tony still charging away..
Chelin Karos |
Chelin will nod. "Indeed, lets get on our way. If we are going to be covering much of the town tonight though, I would very much like to pick up Justice to bring with us. If you do not mind, I will swing by the inn and meet you at the temple, once I have Justice I will be able to get there very quickly."
Ekard Keller |
Ekard helps gather up the gear, wondering what to do with the bodies, then shrugs and decides it's someone else's problem. As the rest of the group leaves the warehouse, he'll take a glance outside to make sure they're aren't any city watchmen strolling nearby.
As they move down the street, he'll pull out the vial of blue liquid and waggle it at Railina. "Any idea what this stuff is?"

"Whoops, I'm sorry". Myrp says quickly retreating. "Didn't mean to get in the way"..."Just trying to help". "I'll stand over here out of the way". The potion did look familiar to him though. He would never counter the decision of Railina though unless he knew it was dangerous.

Lord T |
So on examination of the vial the both of you are pretty sure it is a potion of cure light wounds.
After that the rest of the party and yourselves head to meet with Brother Fabitor. It takes about 30 or so minutes to get back to St. Gustav's. Once there you hand over the note you found on Vagger. Brother Fabitor looks it over and shakes his head.
"Hmmm...there certainly is a plot afoot here. Who is this Vagger and Lucio? I wonder who T.C. is? Unfortunately I am not real in with the underworld around town. You might try and ask around see if you can find out who these guys work for usually. I am sure it will lead to this T.C."

"Yeah, I was afraid it might come to that. I can go tavern crawling and get in touch with some of my contacts in town, see what I can dig up. Problem is, it'll take time. Could be that once I've found out who this T.C. is and where we can find him, he'll have heard what happened to his boys and be ready for us. I don't know that we've got any other choice."
Chelin Karos |
When Chelin has caught up to the others, he can add. "I worked with the guard and still know people there as well. I was trying to avoid talking with them if possible since the father seems to want to keep this real quiet, but if I don't mention any names of who we are helping, than perhaps one of them may have an idea of who this T.C. would be, or at least what groups run these kind of jobs."
Ekard Keller |
"Right. No need to bring the girl's name into it. I'll go prowl around tonight and see what I can find out. Chelin can do the same, now or tomorrow. We can all meet back at the Minstrel tomorrow for lunch and share information. Then we can plan our next step. If anyone else has any places to go for clues, do so. Anyone else can rest up for tomorrow. I'll see you lot again when the sun's up." Ekard will exit the chapel and head out into the night again to see what he can stir up.

After a night and morning of walking the city trying to find out who T.C. is or who Vagger and Lucio work for? You meet back up at the Minstrel. Most of you have been unable to find out anything from old contacts or friends. However it is surprising to say the least that the two who do find info on T.C and Vagger's employer happen to be Chelin and Railina. As it turns out they knew some people in less than reputable positions and places; who just happened to know about a local minor crime boss whose initials are T.C; this crime boss is one Toridan Cran. Whats more they were able to find out that Vagger usually works for Cran. On top of that they found out that he resides on Nar Street in southern Midtown in a neighborhood full of rundown empty houses.
Chelin Karos |
When everyone else meets up the next morning, Chelin will share what he has picked up with the others, looking to Ekard who has proved quite knowledgeable about the underworld thus far.
"It sounds like we may know who we are facing now. With that knowledge at hand, do you know anything about this Cran fellow? How big of a gang does he run with? What is his style?"
