Sense Motive (Gelik): 1d20 ⇒ 8 Dang!

"While I would prefer to keep the javelins to toss, you could use a few of these spears to make a staff, If that won't offend our hostess." With a gesture towards the collection of weapons.

Gelik wrote:

<Angry Gnome Cynic>

"You raise a good point sir scribe, between their assortment of skills, they should be able to handle the task of the rescue."

Looking over at Aycenia, and taken slightly aback at her rebuke, she replies, "We don't need to cut live branches.. a deadfall would do as long as the branch is sturdy enough not to break. I apologize if you thought other. Could you perhaps help fashion them or maybe help us pass through the thick parts of the jungle to reach our friends?"

She listens as Gelik goes through his tirade before responding. Shooting the gnome a big grin, she says, "Perhaps we send Master Gelik in alone to tell them one of his stories. I'm sure they'd be asleep in no time and we could walk right in. She gives the gnome a wink before sitting quietly for a moment.

"Maybe Tony and I could go free the others. Or, I could go myself if need be. Marik may be of more use with the others due to his spells should things go amiss. If I can get to the pen, perhaps I can at least provide them weapons if not free them," she says more seriously. "Either way, the thicker jungle will present a problem as will the skeletons."

Tony looks up at Aycenia's rebuke.
"A belaying pin, broken spar, cut down board from one of the shipwrecks should do for clubs."

Male Human Paladin 2

"You are more than welcome to my weapons but my longsword and a spear, but armaments aside we should focus on our battle strategy." Poking the map vigorously with his stick. "The Songstress has already volunteered to free the prisoners, the question remains as to who should accompany her to the pens" he continues as he moves a small stone to the rear of the village. "My vote is for the scholar, with his magics he should be able to provide a distraction or slow down any pursuers. Or maybe our hostess could provide some aid in that respect to allow the scholar to accompany the main force." Moving a larger stone towards the opposite end, he crosses his arms and gives nod while staring at the map.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 Since there is probably obvious danger to herself if she comes.

If she is a tree spirit/druid, I imagine a few entangles would cause all sorts of havoc on a hunting party, (although i dont know how much more difficult terrain you could get!!)

"Keep your weapons Aerodus. I have my rapier, shortsword, and three daggers as well as my bow. I can offer some to the others if need be," she says, careful to omit the push dagger she keeps at the small of her back beneath her leather armor.

'I cannot journey so far from my tree without risking death,' Aycenia explains, 'and I won't fashion weapons for you... or anyone. I can offer you shelter with me, food, water, and healing, but little else except my good wishes for your success.'

'I vote we send Mistress LeCroix to sing for them,' mutters Gelik, 'that should prove terminal...'

'Dragon not attack Taki,' Taki mentions, pointing to the path leading up the the camp on the crude map, and moving a few thing around a bit, 'Taki get dragon to let all past... then path to skeleton pen and Malikadna's hut leads off before village...' she indicates that the path into the camp branches a dozen or so feet before reaching the communal area around the central fire pit, the secondary branch leading through the 'skeleton pen' and back into the jungle, where Malikadna's hut seems to be isolated from the rest of the village. 'Only four skeletons left,' Taki adds, 'Malikadna not know how to make more. Destroy skeletons, then go kill Malikadna... then go kill Klorak. Klorak strong, but Klorak dumb,' she explains, with a slight smile, 'but Malikadna smart. Klorak and rest of Taki brothers and sisters do what Malikadna say... if Malikadna dead, need new person to listen to...' she looks at Aerodus with obvious hope...

'Hmmm...' muses Gelik, looking at the map himself, 'While I see young Mrs Whiteblade's point, I feel compelled to note that if the whole "destroy skeletons" part of the strategem happens to not go exactly to plan we could end up with angry beserk cannibals on one side, and animated skeletons and a powerful witch on the other... Which, though I admit to only being a layman when it comes to military planning, wouldn't seem like an ideal situation to be in...'

Taki stares at Gelik for a long time...

... Finally she says,

'Taki not know all words yet, but Taki not dumb like Klorak. Aerodus and Tony and Shisa kill things good, and Marik is powerful witch too - all together they destroy skeletons easy... then kill Malikadna,' she stabs a finger at the witch's hut on the map, 'then get magic from Malikadna's hut. Better Malikadna dead and we have magic than Malikadna alive, with magic... yes?'

'I...' Gelik begins, then shrugs and sighs, '... I suppose so. Good Sir Whiteblade, what do you say? Up for trying to murder an old lady in her sleep?'

'Ooh, yes!' Taki exclaims, missing the point, 'Kill Malikadna while she alseep - even better idea!'

Thinking for a moment in silence as Gelik and Taki talk, she almost smiles at Gelik's comment about her singing.

After a moment, she speaks up. "Perhaps it would be best to stick together as much as possible. I think Taki has the right approach. Kill the witch and that makes our position that much stronger, both in the eyes of the tribals and also in the even things go south."

She pauses for a moment before continuing. "Once the witch is dead, I can head over to release the others while Aerodus confronts Klorak. Attention should be drawn to you," she says looking at Aerodus, "which should leave me and perhaps one other free to skirt the outside of the village to the pens. Thoughts?"

Without waiting a response, she looks over at Aycenia and asks "Can you please show us where the best deadfall is where we can fashion clubs or staves to deal with the skeletons? I promise, no live tree will be cut."

Male Human Paladin 2

Oh the joys of Paladinhood, now technically.... there is nothing AGAINST killing evil witches in their sleep. And.. are you going insane from having NPC's talk with each other?

Listening to the other member's plan, Aerodus nods as they make their contributions. "Removing their magic user before she has a chance to use it against us would be great asset, as well as removing a large portion of their leadership." Poking the tower: "With his witch gone, the chieftain will be forced to contend with my challenge to his leadership, lest he look even weaker in the eyes of the village. Sounds viable."

And hopefully doesn't set a horrible precedent of witch-murdering prior to replacing the chieftain as a form of government reorganization."

"Only one question," Shisa asks quietly, "What about the witches familiar.. what was it.. a monkey? We'll have to worry about that thing waking her up or alerting her.. or even attacking one of us."

Male Human Paladin 2

"Unless it has some extra senses... it shouldn't be any different than sneaking past the lizard, could you shoot the thing from the jungle?? Also what magic does she have in her hut?"

So... many... plans!!! Aerodus is good for the Kill Malkinda First plan.

"I agree taking out the main sources of might seperately rather than facing them both together is the best plan of action. After that I yhink Shisa and I should attempt to free the prisoners while Aerodus, Taki and Tony with Master Gelik draw the attention of the main camp. Aycenia sighs,

'I will have no part in the making of weapons, I'm sorry but to do so would be to go against my nature. Please don't ask me again.'

Stepping over to the giant banyan tree the gree-haired fey woman pauses to glance back at the group,

'And please try to get some rest, all of you. I assure you that you are safe here, with me, so I'd advise you all to try to sleep as it seems you have much to do come the morning.' That said, she repeats her earlier trick, stepping into the tree as easily as one steps into water...

Male Human Paladin 2

From the plans people have laid out... we have: Move towards the village, skirt around towards the witch hut (Let Taki handle the scout lizard), sneak in kill Malkinda, then Shisa/Marik take off towards the prisoners while the rest of the party goes to confront Klorak and the cannibal crew for the dance battle of their lives.

Correct me if im wrong anyone!!

Sounds right Aerodus.

Once the plans have been discussed, Shisa stands and stretches. "Well, there's only the task of gathering branches for weapons. Who wishes to accompany me? Once done, we can sleep. No need for a watch tonight."

Reaching down to her pack, she retrieves her short sword and belt with her daggers. Without another word, she heads off down the path to the stream.

Looking for stout deadfall branches that can be fashioned into cudgels or even a staff or two. If no staff length can be found, she'll chop the blade off of one of the javelins. (providing the shaft is sufficient. Afterwards, she'll curl up to sleep :)

Tony will accompany Shisa. Just to be safe.

Male Human Paladin 2

As Shisa/Tony make their way to the stream, Aerodus will setup his bedroll as he prepares to sleep. "I will gather what rest I can before tomorrow's battle. May the Inheritor shine upon us all throughout tomorrows melee!" Wrapping his arms around Taki he will whisper: "By this time tomorrow, you will be the priestess of the tribe, and I the chieftain, let us pray that the goddess favors us in our efforts."

The Exchange

It's a DC 12 Craft (weapons) check to fashion clubs or staves (which don't then count as improvised weapons), and you take a -2 penalty for not using the correct tools. On the flip side, since they have a sp value of '-' it technically takes no time to do so... but I think just a single check (each) for those doing such crafting will show us how well you do in the few hours you have (unless you're skipping sleep completely?).

Quote:

'Sorry,' Gelik replies, 'but us spellcasters need our beauty sleep if we're going to be constantly pressed into service as ersatz clerics...'

Aerodus gets lucky that night... :)

Come morning, Taki spends some time communing with her snake, whilst Gelik regales everyone with more tall tales over breakfast. As he concludes he asks Shisa and Tony,

'So how did you two lovebirds get on with making skeleton-smashing implements, hmmm? Or were you also otherwise engaged...' he casts a glance towards Aerodus and Taki...

It's another four-hour trek through the jungle from Aycenia's hill back to the fork in the trail, from which point Taki explains that it's a couple of hours walk down the south-western trail to get to her village. An hour or so along Shisa finds and disarms another of the snare traps, but eventually the group find themselves approaching the village...

The first evidence of the Thrunefang village is the lighthouse - a stone tower maybe thirty or forty feet tall, looming over the surrounding jungle. Then, as the group make their cautious approach down the trail leading into the village, sounds of drums, chanted singing, and general merry-making can be heard... and the scent of roasted meat fills the air...

'Hmmm,' mutters Taki as she sniffs the air, 'celebration already started... dwarf I think...'

Master Gelik turns a little green around the gills, and steps into the jungle for a moment... the sounds of retching can be heard... followed by a quick incantation of his prestidigitation cantrip...

Continuing down the trail, one of the giant lizards Taki calls 'dragons' can be seen lounging in the sun, a long rope tethering it by the neck to a nearby tree.

'Get past as Taki talk to dragon,' says Taki as she steps over to the beast, kneels down, and begins to pet the thing...

Returning to the camp with an armful of thick branches, Shisa walks over to the huge tree and sits on one of the larger roots. Setting her burden to the side, she pulls out one of her daggers and begins to trim them into what she hopes is a suitable weapon.

Gelik wrote:
'So how did you two lovebirds get on with making skeleton-smashing implements, hmmm? Or were you also otherwise engaged...'

Looking over at the little gnome, she gives sultry smile and replies, "Mmm, a lady never tells thus you will never know."

With a laugh, she returns to her task.

I'd assume you can't take 20 on this since there's a 'penalty' (ie improvised or not) ergo..

I think Aerodus disqualified himself from crafting by 'busying' himself with other matters.. but just in case.

Aerodus is obviously too busy/distracted. Aerodus has a morning star, so he shouldn't need a club.

With stealth not being his forte, Aerodus does his best to keep up with the others as they make their way around the outskirts of the village.

Taking 10 on Stealth as Aerodus will probably be HORRIBLE at it.

Taki wrote:

Aerodus clenches his fists over and over again, while the scribe relieves himself. "We stick to the plan, lest we have his death be in vain." He hisses.

Slipping past the Shiv dragon as Taki pets it, the group make their way down the trail for thirty or forty feet (Shisa lagging behind as she sneaks through the difficult terrain of the jungle undergrowth instead...) until they come to an intersection...

... Off to the right (west), passing between two huts, the trail opens out into the communal area of the village - where a score of Thrunefang cannibals can be seen dancing, chanting, and generally cavorting around the large firepit in the centre of the clearing. The lighthouse tower can be seen rising up on the north-western corner of the village, but the angle doesn't allow a line of sight to the butchery and prisoner pen which Taki indicated should be on the south-western corner of the village. The central clearing of the village is itself about thirty or forty feet across.

... Ahead the trail leads on south a dozen or so feet before turning south-east, where a pen constructed of bamboo and driftwood can just be seen beyond the trees - the pen Taki says is where Malikadna's skeletons are kept...

... As the group head towards the skeleton pen, it can be seen that it's an irregular shape - built so that the walls are right up against the dense surrounding jungle - but about fifteen to twenty feet across. The trail leads directly to a latched door in the fence of the pen, and another door can be seen over the far side of the pen, allowing access to the trail as it continues to the south beyond. However, four animate human skeletons are pacing in the pen, each with a broken cutlass clutched in a bony hand... Turning at the sound of Aerodus 'sneaking' towards them, all four skeletons start to make as much noise as possible, rattling their broken weapons along the fence wall of the pen...

Shisa:
With the rest of the group a good thirty feet ahead of you as you take the hard route through the jungle, you spot two of the Thrunefang cannibals break off from the 'party', grabbing up shields and spears, and head towards the noise being made by the skeletons (who you can't see yet)... and towards your friends...

Marik:
As the skeleton pen comes into sight you start to experience a familiar uneasy feeling... something makes you glance behind you - only to see two of the Thrunefang cannibals charging towards your group, spears and shields in hand! You have your surprise round action to take.

Okay - seems fair, as you guys knew you were heading into enemy territory and everything.

As Aerodus moves towards the skeleton pen all of the Nine Hells seem to break loose! The four skeletons cease their rattling to climb up and over the bamboo fence of their pen... but at the same time one of the cannibals, shield and spear in hand, charges the group from behind! Unlike Tony and Aerodus, Marik doesn't seem as surprised by the attack - a hastily cast spell of his appearing to stop a second cannibal in his tracks. But the first cannibal charges onwards, not even slowing as Shisa fires an arrow from somewhere in the undergrowth back along the trail and it sticks in the charging man's shoulder. Bursting amongst the group in a furious rage the cannibal catches Marik in the thigh with his spear... Marik takes 5 Hit Points of damage.

Next round. There's now four un-penned skeletons in front of the group (within a five-foot step of Aerodus), one cannibal in melee with the group, and another shaking off the effects of Marik's daze cantrip a dozen feet back along the trail. Shisa's in the undergrowth even further back. Tony needs an Initiative roll, and everyone needs actions for the round.

No Marik?

Quickly recovering from the initial shock of the cannibal's attack, Tony runs a couple of paces, leaps, kicks off one of the trees tightly packed alongside the trail, and somersaults over the head of the cannibal who just speared Marik. As the swashbuckler lands he deftly skewers his blade into the cannibal's muscular back, dropping the man face-first to the trail...

Slipping from the undergrowth and switching weapons, Shisa starts to carefully pace forwards... until she passes the intersection which leads into the middle of the Thrunefang village (and their feast) and the music and cries suddenly sputter to quiet... Glancing to her side the half-elven woman sees that the entire village seems to have stopped, mid-revelry, to stare at her... A massive man steps forwards, sporting a wild mane of red hair, and wearing what appears to be a cape fashioned of skin with humanoid skulls adorning the shoulders. Staring wide-eyed at Shisa for a moment, what appears to be a partially consumed roasted dwarven foot dangling from his mouth, the man suddenly points at Shisa, the dwarf-foot dropping to the floor as he barks out a command of some sort... and the entire village grab up weapons and charge...

With Tony having dropped the cannibal in their midst, Aerodus steps between the rest of the group and the four skeletons, swinging at the first and smashing the greater part of its skull and rib-cage to powder as it reaches him. The other three try their best to hack at the paladin with their broken cutlasses... but he manages to keep his shield between them and him (and everybody else too!). Then, of course, the sound of the whole village charging towards Shisa can be heard...

The cannibal momentarily stunned by Marik's spell shakes his head, glances back at the approaching throng, grins a sharp-toothed grin, and charges Tony - only for the swashbuckler to easily side-step the hasty and wild blow...

Ooh - Raiders of the Lost Ark flashback! I bet a Wizard would be useful just about now... but in the meantime - next round!

Tony, I think you should have your leather armour back??(maybe)? I wouldn't see the point of holding onto your leather's when Marik gave Aerodus mage armor. Also.. heh, just reread and there is a latched door to the pen. Maybe straight run for the prisoners is a better option!!!

Tony wrote:

"You mean me?"

"We'll hold them off.." He manages between his assault/defense of the skeletal soldiers. "While they free the others!" Looking towards Marik/Taki/Gelik he shouts: "Get going!! They are depending on you!"

Aerodus is trying to make a line of travel for the other party members to get by to either the pen/prisons (in as straight a shot as possible), If he has to, he will instead use his move to provoke the AoO's so the others should be able to run without threat of danger.

Frankly, Tony/Aerodus stand the best chance of holding them off (maybe with some Marik/Gelik magic assistance (I have no idea what magic Gelik can do))while the party gets the NPC's

Sorry if I get you killed Tony!!

Immediate: Saving shield if possible on adjacent ally!

Then Tony stands here! [gives back Bracers in return for leather. Norm AC is 16 now.]

Fighting Skeletons and being charged by cannibals.. doubt Aero and Tony would have a free moment to swap armor.

"Try issuing.. *puff* a challenge..*puff*" she yells over her shoulder as her legs pump as fast as they can toward the pens.

Obviously not in the middle of the fight. Before, when he got the Mage Armor and he no longer needed the Leather armor.

Okay, if we're done with the retroactive armour swapping, then let's continue... ;p

Tony tries to run the second of the cannibals through, but the wild-eyed man deflects the attack with his shield...

Spotting a narrow gap between the hut to her right (the south west) and the jungle, Shisa veers off the trail to squeeze through, skirting the central communal clearing of the village until she reaches the high wooden wall of what, based on Taki's description, must be the butchery...

Incanting a spell, Marik launches a splash of caustic liquid at the cannibal locked in combat with Tony - the blast spatters across the man's shoulder, hissing as it burns his skin... but he hardly seems to notice...

With another mighty swing of his morningstar, Aerodus splinters another of the skeletons, leaving two to keep hacking at him as he backs a little closer to the melee between Tony and the cannibal...

One of the animate skeletons manages to slip past Aerodus's guard, his rusty broken cutlass ripping a jagged wound across the paladin's arm... Aerodus takes 5 Hit Points of damage.

The cannibal facing Tony tries once more to stab the swashbuckler, but to no avail...

Half a dozen of the cannibals chasing Shisa keep following her, whilst a few more double back to cut her off... ending up with Shisa facing the high butchery wall of wooden stakes on one side, and being surrounded by crazed-looking cannibals on the other...

The remainder of the cannibals surge over the rest of the group as a frenzied mob, slashing and hacking with weapons, kicking, punching, biting... Tony, Aerodus, and Marik all take 8 Hit Points of damage... which is pure coincidence, but there you have it...

'Er... would anyone like to hear a story?' Gelik manages to ask... just before vanishing beneath a wave of blood-crazed cannibals...

Pressing close to Aerodus, Taki lays a hand on him... Aerodus is healed 5 Hit Points of damage... then screams as she barely dodges a spear-thrust... and Aerodus manages to use his shield to deflect an overhead clubbing with a thigh-bone which seemed about to stave in the poor girl's skull...

Quick! Use a fireball! What do you mean Marik's not 5th level yet..? ;p

So yeah - it's a 'target rich environment' if that's any comfort...

Male Human Paladin 2

Well..... snap! Chain lightning anyone??

Struggling to keep his balance over the tide of cannibal Aerodus roars at the top of his lungs, and pointing at the big large one with red hair?:

Pidgin Infernal:

"I Aerodus, Challenge You!! For Leadership of Thrunefang!"

Maybe it will work? Don't think a good ol' fashioned 'I am here to negotiate your terms of surrender!' would suffice either

AC: 16 HP:11/19

Seeing the wall drawing rapidly closer, she spares a quick look over her shoulder and utters a curse.

Tossing her dagger over the wall as she runs, she uses her momentum to help her climb, planting a foot against the side as she jumps..

climb 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Ugh!! Probably couldn't climb a staircase with that roll.. dicebot I hate you!! :) Wish the Adv Combat Guide came out sooner.. I could sure use "Wall Scramble" about now.. heh

Defensive stance [AC18]
Again Tony will move to flank [if possible] and attack one of the tribesmen.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Deulling sword attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 4 = 10 for a possible 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 piercing damage.
IF flank achieved,=> +2 to hit and an extra 1d6 ⇒ 3 precision damage

Male Human Paladin 2

Don't suppose the skeletons are going indiscriminate are they? My edit didn't take!!. Think my old melee swing was a two (2) however if you want to add a 0 onto it, I will be glad to oblige!

Raising his morningstar once more, Aerodus hopes to inflict some damage on Tony's target. (If can't reach Tony's, will target a skeleton)

Move: 5ft? (The mob may be preventing)

Standard: Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 +2 if flank!
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Swift: LoH 1d6 ⇒ 5

Pidgin Infernal:

"Unless you afraid to fight me!"
Oh to have antagonize...
Dip/Intim If needed? 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 +4 if diplo. And now that he sounds like a small barking dog....

Marik will try and cast Color Spray, getting as many of the cannibals as possible.
Cast Defensively: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 13

That's not going to do it.
OK, boys. Do what you want to the women and children, just leave me alone!

Edit:That's what I get for trying to do it from memory.
What the heck happened? It completely changed my roll. It should have been a base (7) instead of a (3).

Male Human Paladin 2

Marik, you should have another +6 to that roll, concentration rolls you add: Caster Level + Ability Mod + Misc Bonuses, I think you are missing the +4 from your int, and +2? from Jask's bonus. Now go use a hero point!!!

Ok something is definitely wonky/caddywompus here I have two different post's from Marik depending upon whether or not I am in edit mode or not. I think what happened to marik is happening to mee!!!

Could also be going insane, hmm... may be the database tables playing tricks on me!!

Casting Defensively has a DC of 15 + double the spell level - so 17 in Marik's case. He gets his Int bonus, plus caster level, +2 from Jask added in... but even with a 7 instead of a 3 it's still a miss... 'cos the dicebot hates you guys... except for Tony's acrobatics - I guess the dicebot's a fan of those... ;)

While the midst of a crazed mob is hardly Tony's trained fighting arena, it is a little reminiscent of some of the wilder drinking establishments he recalls from his youth... In any case, there seems plenty of opportunity to slip a skilled blade between ribs, and he dutifully executes another of the cannibals... The swashbuckler even manages to avoid no less than four attempts to strike him... but two more get through, and are enough to cause his world to fade to black... Tony's down...

Lobbing her dagger over the wall ahead of her, Shisa leaps for it... and slips, falling back into the eager clawing and grasping hands of her persuers... Clothes ripping as she's scratched and bitten, punched and kicked, unconsciousness almost seems a blissful escape... Shisa is out cold...

Desperately trying to cast a spell, Marik is overcome by the sheer press of the crowd, a heavy blow to the jaw disrupting the arcane words he's trying to form just before his legs are swept from under him and a sea of unwashed, ritually scarred, humanity closes in... And there goes Marik...

Smashing a third of the skeletons, Aerodus feels the cutlass of the last open a fresh wound in his leg, even as he tries his best to fend off the cannibal mob... a stray shot with a blunt weapon of some sort glances off the paladin's skull, but he manages to remain on his feet for the moment... Aerodus takes 8 Hit Points of damage...

... The large red-haired cannibal appears to be standing at the rear of the throng, muscular arms folded across his barrel chest... it's doubtful that he even heard Aerodus's choked attempt at a challenge over the cries and bellows of the enraged crowd...

Despite the protection of Aerodus's shield, a spear catches Taki's thigh, causing her to cry out in pain, then a blow from a wooden club as she stumbles smashes the girl, unmoving, to the dirt...

For the moment it looks like Aerodus Vs the world! There's a single skeleton behind Aerodus, and a mob of cannibals in front of him... although being backed nearly to the pen is working to his advantage as no more than three appear able to assault him at once... then he feels a tiny touch on his shoulder, from which rapidly spreads cold - like the chill of the grave - and he feels the life draining from him... As he slumps to the ground and his vision begins to blur to unconsciousness, Aerodus spies a viscious-looking monkey perching on his chest... and beyond that the sickening grin of an old crone of a woman, her palid wrinkled face framed by stringy, greasy, thin black hair...

...
...
...

... It's some time later when wakefulness begins to return (to all of you), since the sun seems long gone, and the stars are shining brightly overhead. Glancing around, you find yourselves in an 'L' shaped muddy yard, each arm of the 'L' being maybe thirty by fifteen feet. The area is surrounded by a bamboo and driftwood fence, and each of you is tied naked, hands behind you, to a stake driven into the ground. Craning your necks you can just make out a refuse pit behind the yard (and the jungle behind that), maybe twenty feet across and ten feet deep. In front of you is what must be the 'butchery' Taki described. Open to your view, it's a raised wooden floor, with two long, horrifically bloodstained slabs of wood on top. On one of the slabs rest what appears to be a severed dwarven arm...

Slumped, beaten, and bloody, most of your companions are tied to similar stakes around you - Sasha, Jask, and Ishirou all seem to be suffering from a certain amount of exposure as well as the beatings. Gelik appears in a state similar to all of you - freshly beaten, but not yet starving or dying of thirst... Aerys, however, appears to be in an even worse state, as her left hand is missing from the mid-forearm down, and only a tightly wrapped bloodsoaked rag covers the stump... Taki isn't even present...

While the rest seem unconscious or, at the very least, completely out of touch, Gelik stirs soon after your more freshly captured group. Peering around with one good eye (the other a puffy mess of blue-back and purple, and swollen shut) he moans a little, then appears to be trying to focus as he glances over the rest of you...

'Th-that wasn't so bad...' he manages to stammer, with some effort, '... what's the next phase of the "plan"?' he chuckles... then winces and hangs his head...

Basically you're all on 1 Hit Point... and naked... and tied to stakes... So, business as usual, yes? ;p

It's a DC 25 Escape Artist, or DC 23 Strength check to escape the bonds. A DC 20 Perception check will allow you to spot the dagger Shisa chucked over the wall... although it's not within anyone's reach...
