GM Birch |
The deadline has come and gone, so expect me to post in both threads the final list (within four hours of this post).
I'll then give 24 hours for players to create aliases before opening the adventure. I may open with some fluff earlier than that but not expect any responses straight away - I have to admit I'm as keen to start as you seem to be.
GM Birch |
And after a couple of difficult decisions, I have decided upon:
Grab
Grum
Romund
Savren
Xavier
Nilofar
So, we have a fighter, a ranger, a rogue, an alchemist, a cleric and a summoner. I'll post the opening scene soon. The idea is that you are the chosen 'heroes' and when called you must step forward. Once you've all announced yourself, we can move on. No time limit on the opening post as I've delayed the start and we're into the week-end.
The bar scene didn't happen in real life but it's fair to assume that each of the exchanges probably occurred at some time - considering you have all been in the same place and it's not that big.
Finally a big thanks to those that showed an interest but didn't make the cut.

I hope that's Grob and not Grab, or I'm going to get sulky ;)
Assuming I'm in though since you mention a fighter :)Nilofar Varissan |
Wonderful to hear/read.
If no one seriously minds, I thought on my Eidolon's name and will be changing it to "M'Rtyu", which is a bit more unusual and befitting than "Gabriel". Otherwise, pretty much ready to role play here.
Looking forward to playing with you all, best of luck to those that were not chosen, lots of other promising options out there.
Best.
Grumadon "Grum" |
Thanks and looking forward to the game with you all!
@Grob - I must have my brother with me! Also, I'm the only one allowed to butcher his name like that! ;)
@Nilofar - I don't think I'm ok with that. all this time I've been prepping to deal with a Gabriel, and now I'm dealing with a Pokemon? j/k. Sounds awesome.

We've progressed to the end of the first chapter and the characters are al L3 - at least the ones that made it. Looking to add two or three more. As ever, a balanced party works best - so take that into consideration when suggesting a character.
All the rules stated in the opening recruitment posts apply except that now I'm looking for level three characters. You don't need to be local anymore - so feel free to come up with a different reason to be in Kassen.
I'll hold the recruitment open for a week, so closing next Friday.
Heldar |
Hello, I would like to put forth Heldar - he is currently built around 20 pt buy, but upgrading and adding two leves is easy - much easier if it would be the other way around.
I see him as a full support character, and I intend him to play the part not only of the healer, but also buffer and supporter for the group.
If he looks good to you, and seems to fit what the party needs, I will push him to level 3, and upgrade the pt buy.
Let me know your thoughts.
Heldar |
How do I feel about half-orcs is a curious question - Personally I like the "in your face", and I am particularly fond of any wildish race that can spawn such amazing things as Shamans! :D
If you are asking Heldars' opinion, he tends to get along well with most, though he is intrinsically good, and tends to do what he finds is best for everyone
Even so, he does have his own measure of right and wrong - I wouldn't call him goody two shoes [I have a few dark moments in store for him, to be included on his background, only haven't gotten around to it yet :D], he just is not very passionate about wanton destruction and/or murder for the heck of it.
Being adventurous at heart, he is still looking for his own place - even though not obsessed by it, he tends to be objective about the search, the experience of it all, and not much given to metaphysical dissertation about the meaning of things ;)
He will do what needs to be done - if at his side are half-orcs is just fine.
Heldar |
It is Friday night, and I am having a couple of my friends over for dinner and some drinks, so I cannot guarantee 100% that I will have Heldar ready to go still today (even though I have a clear picture of how I want him leveled, and it should be fast to upgrade him) :D
But by tomorrow he will be done for sure.
Btw, I am in Europe - GMT time.
Rumha Varju |
Hi ho!
Applying to the game with Rumha.
Build-wise, his domains make him a good support unit - being able to buff his more militant comrades with Bit of Luck, and teleporting into flanking positions with Sudden Shift. Top that with a good blend of spells and he is a trouble-maker. If you look at my Advancement spoiler, you can see where I'm going with his build. With Quick Channel he's a double-barreled healer and by combining Variable Channel, with Alignment Channel, and Channel Smite... I'm gearing him up to use his channeling as a serious offensive tool against outsiders and regular folks.
Looking through your original Recruitment thread, you asked about our play-styles and sample characters. If you skim my aliases... there are a lot of them. Most are DM tools but I've played in probably a dozen campaigns on Paizo. Good examples of my style are Straehan, Udaya Udas, or Rajuna. You can also get a handle on my prose styles from these games: GSI, Silent Gods
GM Birch |
Hello again, I have completed Heldars' upgrade - created him a new alias, and made a couple of mechanical changes that I think will make him stronger as a support -> New alias: Heledar :D
I'd love to see some fluff to go with the crunch. Why are you in Kassen? Read the end of the game timeline to give you some hooks if it helps.
GM Birch |
As far as fluff goes, I had already posted a basic backstory for Heldar - Heledar is nust another alias.
I will take a look the provided game info and fill up on a tie in to Kassen.
Thanks - I'll take notice of Heldar's back-story. As my posts earlier suggest, I put more value in regular posting than great stats. What I mean by this is that your effort won't be wasted. I'm always wary of spending hours on a character only for the GM to pick someone else. Your interest to date says you are in, unless of course you change your mind. All we have to agree is why you're in Kassen.
Rumha Varju |
Ah, my apologies. I should have connected the dots.
So he'd be in Kassen to see the sights, 'enjoy' Lake Encarthan, and drum up a little business.
Rumha Varju |
Thanks - you're also in. We'll see if one more player wants to join before the deadline, as I'll take one more.
Grand! I'm looking forward to it. What sort of cash do we start with to buy equipment? Looking at the other characters, it looks like we are at something less than WBL for 3rd level characters.

Here's my quick bid:
Lyosh (LAI-oh-sh)
male ifrit sorceror (elemental fire) 3 CG
hgt: 5’6 wgt: 135 lbs
eyes: golden
hair: black-brown
age: 19
STR 11
DEX 16
CON 12
INT 14
WIS 10
CHA 18
Appearance:
While otherwise unassuming, Lyosh has a sense of presence about him, as well as the lingering smell of smoke. Lean and quick, he could pass for human if it wasn't for those slightly pointed ears and strangely sharp teeth. His golden eyes and mocking grin have made many a maid's heart flutter. Dressed in dark clothing to complement his dark hair, his long gray-brown duster and wide-brimmed hat mostly hide the accoutrements of sorcery that Lyosh takes with him everywhere he goes.
Background:
Born and raised in Tamran, fire has lain dormant for generations in Lyosh's lineage; who can say what ignited the fire in his blood? Perhaps it was the fury he felt at his gambling father's abandonment of his mother when he was no older than four. Without his merchant father bringing in money, Lyosh, his mother and his younger sister were poor - not destitute, but near enough. The family was desperate, and that desperation has never quite released its hold on Lyosh's soul. When his true nature manifested as a teenager, to avoid problems of superstition against his family, Lyosh moved out to make his own way in the world - but unlike his father, he didn't forget all about those he left. He often visits with some small gift to make their lives easier, whether it be food, coin or some useful tool. Their continued poverty makes his teeth grind, and he wants to give them a better life.
Seeking to make his fortune, Lyosh left the city to become an adventurer, but bad luck dogged his steps, and he soon found himself in Kassen with his adventuring friends disbanding and little coin to get by on. Now he's looking for another group, one that will change his fortunes - and that of his family.
I'll stat him up more if you're interested. Cheers!
Edit: My other active game is A Storm Over Tethyr as Matthias Valbrand.

Standard starting cash for L3 characters. All magical equipment must be approved by me. The other characters have a small treasure trove that has to be sold to get their cash before they spend it.

In general terms this looks good but I'm not comfortable with the race. It doesn't lend itself to a group and to role-play it properly would, I believe, put it at odds with the rest of the group too often.

I will not change my mind :D
Was already perusing the PDF with the information you referred, and I do have a couple ideas running around in my head. Fact is that, I am currently on vacations until the 28th, and on top of that, in a place where I get reception on my phone only by a miracle ;)
In any case, I am here, and keeping up with the game. Hope that is ok since I am very interested in getting involved in this one.

If you're not back by the time we set off from Kassen, we can pick you up along the way - there will be plenty of opportunities. For that reason, be flexible as to why you bump into the group. The key is the cult they are about to begin investigating.
GM Birch |
Should I avoid all the unusual races, or was it just the ifrit?
I have an idea for a ratfolk urban druid, but I'll wait on your reply.
I think it's just unusual races. In most environments, you will stand out like a sore thumb and if I role-played it properly, you would find it impossible to ever blend in as you'd be that one of a kind outsider that people gossip about in taverns. Once you get up a few levels, your reputation would preceed you in every encounter. Sometimes that's good but too often it will be a handicap for the group.
I accept we already have three half-orcs and that might prove to be a challenge later on...
GM Birch |
OK, here are my items for purchase - asssuming DM approval:
+1 Leaf Armor
MW Darkwood Hanbo (walking stick)
MW Dagger
Wand of Cause FearThe rest are all common items... MW Backpack, spring-loaded wrist-sheath (Wand), etc. Let me know if that raises any red flags for you.
They're OK for me. Be aware that buying magical items won't be automatic in this game. Better you find them along the way - and they'll mean more that way.
