Laucian Galanodel |
Laucian pauses to think for a second, and then starts chanting as he lays a hand on Gilgar's back. Immediately following the touch Gilgar start to grow. At first his hands along with his axe and his feet seem double in size. Quickly following that, his body get larger both in width and height growing into his newly sized hands and feet. Proportionaly he looks the same as before; however one would now have to look at him and his gear from a greater distance for them to appear to be his original size.

Gilgar's increase in size doesn't occur until just before Laucian's next turn.
Nox and Perrin are up!
Sylvanis Leafmender |
Sylvanis casts Guidance on Winter.
Winter full attacks the cauldron that he has flanked.
Bite (with Guidance)1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Bite Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Claw 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Claw Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Claw 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Claw Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Gilgar |
Almost frothing at the mouth, swinging my waraxe with all my might, growling at the effort put into the overhand swing.
2-handed Dwarven Waraxe Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Dwarven Waraxe 2-handed damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Curses fly almost incoherently, and I begin to shake and twitch as my face contorts into a feral snarl.
"Yaaaw!!! Take that, ye dumb thing!"
Pixie Rogue |
Rolling for Winter's AoO:
Bite Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Bite Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Rolling to avoid the critical failure.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
By the way, we use the attack roll rather than a dex check, so Perrin should have had a +5 bonus rather than +2. Unfortunately, that's still not enough.
Looks like I need to see what happened to our animal party members as a result of their critical failures...
Pixie Rogue |
As Perrin lunges to bite the cauldron as it struggles, some debris is flipped up from the ground and, in an unfortunate turn of events, the wolf swallows it, causing him to be ill. Sickened condition, -2 on most rolls, 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds
Winter makes a mighty roar at the kettle just as the thing begins to right itself and finds himself roaring directing into the thing's maw! His normally frightening roar takes on a volume of terrifying proportions, startling Sylvanis, but literally deafening the big cat for 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds.
Essentially unmarked from the attacks of opportunity, the big black pot rights itself and renews its attack on the trespasser. Once again, it bites the elven druid Nox, but it fails to get a hold of him.

Gilgar, it's clobberin' time!
Gilgar |
A string of curses jet from my mouth, eyes bulging and veins popping out all over. Stomping the ground once, I heft my axe for the next attack, screaming "DIIIIIEE!!!" as I swing down.
Enter RAGE
2-handed Dwarven Waraxe Attack + Raging: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Dwarven Waraxe 2-handed damage + Raging: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
More curses shoot from my mouth, accentuated by spit arcing through the air with each filth-ridden word.
UGH... Lousy dice... *Boils them in oil*
Laucian Galanodel |
My spell completes, and Gilgar is now a size category larger
Laucian steps back 5 feet avoiding the fight while thinking of how this things can be defeated.

Sylvanis Leafmender |
I cast Guidance on Winter. And then make my way to the hut to look around inside. Don't know where everyone is and what not if I can't get into the hut without an AoO on myself I won't go.

Winter's bite and claw chip off more of the flakes on the big black pot's surface, but do little to slow it down.
Sylvanis, you have no AoO to worry about, but are you trying to do this without the kettle noticing? If so, I need a stealth check -- I'll decide how much penalty it takes from being distracted.
Sylvanis Leafmender |
Not trying to be stealthy, simply trying to get a good vantage point just inside the door this round. If the cauldron comes after me I'll attempt to make the 2-3ft step from inside to outside.
Laucian Galanodel |
ooc: These dice rolls are crazy. I am still in belief that Pix has fixed the dice. I set the dice Pix gave me to the side, and I get out my own.
Laucian looks around for an object he can use as a club two handed club. If he find one he will spend the rest of his action going to it to pick it up.
Perception
Pixie Rogue |
Gilgar's sudden increase in size throws off his aim and he buries the axe in the ground just past the cauldron, overreaching his target.
Laucian spots a candidate for his search, but it is on the edge of the clearing, too far to reach this round.
Nox! This thing is going to chew your leg off if you don't figure something out soon! ;-)

Retcon, I missed a message earlier. And it should not necessarily affect Winter - definitely does not affect Sylvanis.
For the record, the save DC will be 10 + spell level (1 in this case) + Nox's Wisdom modifier (mod for 16 is 3), so folks entering the target area must make a DC 14 Reflex save or be entangled.
Nox steps back 10' and casts a spell. As you watch, the grass and weeds in front of the hut begin to grow amazingly fast, becoming thick and trying to ensnare your legs.
Everyone but Sylvanis, including Nox, needs to make a Reflex save.
Pixie Rogue |
Correction/clarification - the affected individuals are those within 40' of the cauldron, which is at the center of the effect. The effect does surround the hut, but does not enter, so Sylvanis is unaffected as long as she remains within. Laucian had moved away to the edge of the trees and so is well outside the area of effect.
Pixie Rogue |
And yet another correction: The spell description says that it only applies to foes, so the party does not need to make Reflex saves.
Kettle Damage 6+2+3+11+1+8+2+12+3+2+4+4+6+3+5+4+5+5
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Entangled: The character is ensnared. Being entangled
impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless
the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered
by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half
speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all
attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled
character who attempts to cast a spell must make a
concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell.
The cauldron is successfully caught by the sudden growth of vines and struggles to free itself. Tearing some of the plants free, it fights against the grasping leaves and moves toward the druid again, but is unable to attack this round.
Gilgar!
Gilgar |
Blaring out a great and feral roar of anger, frustration, and rage, I swing my axe down at the cauldron with as much force as I can muster.
2-handed Dwarven Waraxe Attack + Raging: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Dwarven Waraxe 2-handed damage + Raging + Enlarged: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Oops! Forgot the increased damage dice for the axe being enlarged.
Dwarven Waraxe 2-handed damage + Raging + Enlarged: 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (8, 3) + 8 = 19
"Die!!! You die!!!"
Pixie Rogue |
With a mighty clang, Gilgar drives his Large waraxe into lip of the big kettle and clear down into the ground. Above of the shriek of metal-on-metal, there's another shriek - almost human, very angry - that fades away as the breeze picks up.
As the party stands there, panting a little from the exertion, you realize that the sounds of the forest can be heard. It's almost like they were waiting to see if you would prevail.
The cauldron, its magic gone, begins to corrode visibly. You're guessing by the end of the week, there will be very little left of it.
Now what?
Laucian Galanodel |
Running up with club in hand, Laucian's heavy breathing can hardly be heard as Gilgar made he yell. Seeing the distruction Gilgar provided to the coldren, Laucian drops the club placing his hands on his knees to catch his breath.
"Well don Gilgar." Hearing Nox and seeing him go inside, "Now don't be bring out another one of those."
Gilgar |
End Rage
Standing over the newly sundered cauldron, gasping great lung-fulls of air as my arms slowly lower to my sides as the tension slowly leaves my body.
"Strange..." gasp "Things... never..." wheezing, I sink to one knee "look... small..." pant "after..." I look around at the others, bewildered. "Do I" still breathing heavily "look different?"
Pixie Rogue |
The hut is crammed full of material. You know what you are looking for (thanks to a previous knowledge check), but it may take some time to find it.
Perception checks if you are searching. If you are going to look for other interesting items while you are in the hut, you will need to make some other checks to identify items as you come across them. Give me a knowledge check for each of your knowledge skills -- I'll decide if it's pertinent.
Pixie Rogue |
I will summarize what was found once everyone has stated whether they are searching and/or provided their skill checks.
The animal companions still do not appear to want to enter the hut, but they will at least stick their heads in now to watch their elven companions rather than pacing back and forth like before.
Laucian Galanodel |
Now closer to the hut, Laucian decides to investigate; however with what last came out of the hut, he doesn't want to enter completely. Walking up to the door, he sticks his head in. Giving his eye time to adjust, he then scans the room for anything that has to do with the arcane magics or about the local geography or history.

Pixie Rogue |
The elves search the hut carefully, wary of additional surprises, while the illusionist leans in and watchs from the door. The dwarf catches his breath in the clearing, watching and watched by the fetish-men that spooked the mage. No, there is no indication that they are animated.
After a minute or two of waiting for the elves to announce they've found the tail of a rat or whatever nonsense they seek, Gilgar has a moment of disorientation as he sees the hut and Laucian grow in size! In fact, the little stick men are twice the size they were just a moment ago! Hee hee hee!
For the elves: There must be a decades' worth of dust laid over a century's worth of detritus and arcane minutiae, but you note nothing of value. Finally, after disturbing far more dust than you would like - considering what that dust might be made up of - Sylvanis locates a healthy-sized, dried-out root that Nox quickly identifies as Rat's Tail.
Pixie Rogue |
"Have ye found what we seek already?" Standing, shaking my head, squinting around at my surroundings. "I don't like the blasted place. It stinks of witchcraft..."
After you stand out and study your surroundings, all appears to be keeping its current size which, truth be told, seems more normal than just a moment ago. It's like everything shrunk while you were in your rage. !!!
