Etu Free-As-Wind |
"I suppose that means it's up to Qalim and his Fireballs," Etu will say.
Pirate GM |
With Qalim away going to bot him
Qalim keeps his eyes shut as he walks past Warpac and Rayne with his hand on their shoulders before throwing an ectoplasmic fireball at the basilisk.
Since wraith in in position to see Qalim/Rayne but not the basilisk I'll assume they can see what's going on.
Qalim chucks the little fireball bead which is sent back by the wind and explodes on the wall by Rayne.
firedamage DC 22: 10d6 + 24 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 6, 4, 1, 1, 1, 4, 2) + 24 = 55
Qalim save: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
Rayne: 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 15 + 2 = 36
Warpac w/cover: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 24
Looks like 55 fire damage to Qalim and 22 to Rayne and Warpac
With nobody's eyes open in the room, it's ya'lls turn again.
Iniitiative
Ya'll
Basilisk
Pirate GM |
Nope, seems pretty obvious though. Rayne tried to cross the pit and got thrown back by the winds. The fireball bead tried to cross the pit and go thrown back by the winds.
Warpac |
Less 20 points from the resist fire spell which means Warpac takes 4 points of damage.
"Ooooch! I thought it was a basilisk, not fire breathing dragon!"
I suspect the challenge is to get the south door open before we get turned to stone. Shall we try that next?
Etu Free-As-Wind |
"I'll go ahead and channel, so you don't need to keep using wands. However, it seems to me like it should be easy enough to keep to the wall and make it to the next door. It's a very strange room."
Channel Positive: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6) = 9
9 back for now since it seems we're in initiative still?
"What does the basilisk seem to be doing? Is it even paying attention to us?"
Pirate GM |
Climbing over the edge into the pit gets wraith violently thrown back.
reflex: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Wraith lands safely on his feet though.
The southern door is not locked. I'll get a description of the next bit up for Rayne in an hour or so.
Qalim Al Shama |
Qalim get almost fries from his own medecine! But thanks to his resitance to fire and a little luck he still stands. Badly burned but alive.
bloody winds!
He uses again his last two infernal healing to heal himself before lending his wand to get it him to full.
-5 from my resistance to fire (50) -20 from two infernal healing (30) minus 9 from the channel (21)
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Pirate GM |
During Qalim's 2 more minutes of Infernal healing... Rayne walks blindly towards the southern door and opens the door. Rayne can hear an electrical buzzing coming from deeper into the chamber from the now open door.
This rectangular chamber is divided up into three smaller cells. The cell containing the entrance and the far cell both hold a short wall of steel bars in the center on the outside. The walls dividing the cells are solid at the center, but are also made of similar steel bars close to the outer walls. Electrical motes dance around the far southern cell.
Rayne Deverin |
Rayne hesitantly opens his eyes. "Looks safe in here. A bunch of cells and some electricity, but no monsters that I can tell." He takes a step into the room.
Pirate GM |
Updated map, no need to stay in rounds for the moment. Don't forget about the basilisk though.
Warpac |
Silgil follows, keeping his eyes averted.
"I wonder if there is something in here to turn that wind wall off. It can't be that easy to avoid the trap."
Etu Free-As-Wind |
"If we think of something, we'll come back, Warpac."
Etu will follow, also keeping her eyes off of the Basilisk.
*wraith* |
"Since wind and electricity are both weather effects, it's not unlikely that disabling one will disable the other." says Wraith before she sneaks into the room, averting her gaze from the pit as she passes it.
Stealth: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (15) + 28 = 43 In case it matters, I can move at full speed over difficult terrain and acrobatics and stealth at full speed as well. I also have hellcat stealth, so...Ninja
Pirate GM |
Nothing immediatly threatening in the new chamber other than the buzzing motes. There are 6 levers protuding from the walls. 3 on the wall to the left of the door, 1 in each cell and 3 on the wall to the right of the door, one on each cell.
will add some labels to the map later
Pirate GM |
Only the closest of the 3 cells is accessible at the moment. The others are blocked by walls/steel bars.
The pair of levers in each cell appear to be in the up position. You suspect pulling them might cause some of the walls to move although which lever does what is impossible to discern.
You can see the further levers and they seem no different.
Just to double check, everybody is looking towards the room and not at the basilisk at all, correct?
Warpac |
Warpac is NOT looking at the basilisk thing.
is there anything to distinguish one lever from the next or are we going to have to do this randomly?
Pirate GM |
Wraith pulls the lever nearest the door and very quickly the walls rotate to create two long chambers. Meanwhile the buzzing motes disappear from their previous location and to reappear in a different location.
Strangely a nimbus of light remains at the old location of the buzzing motes.
see map.
Pirate GM |
With extreme quickness the walls rotate back to their original position. The motes once again disappear leaving a faint glow behind.
They reappear on top of wraith.
Whom I will need a reflex and fort save from. Will update with more after results
Warpac |
Not envying Rayne right now. Seems like he has a painful job... With a resigned *sigh* he says,
"Would you like me to take a turn pulling some levers? Doesn't seem to take much in the way of talent, more like luck, which Desna provides."
Pirate GM |
To avoid any appearance of impropriety, going forward if I ask for multiple rolls can you please roll them in the order same order I mention them.
electricity damage: 10d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3, 4, 4, 6, 3, 4, 3, 4) = 39
Wraith gets zotted by the motes appearing in his space as he disappears and finds himself facing off the basilisk from across the pit
39 damage, not turned to stone.
What are people doing?
Etu Free-As-Wind |
"Oh dear, perhaps this is the point where we'd like that Protection from Energy? I know I was saving it, but that seemed a rather nasty shock. Here, come stand by me, Wraith, I'll get you healed back up," Etu will say, motioning her over without looking towards the basilisk.
I'm going to be gone for most of the day, so feel free to roll the CLW from Etu so you don't have to worry about UMD failures.
Warpac |
When you say facing off from across the room, do you mean that Wraith was teleported across the room, or that a sort of visual portal was opened and she stayed where she was but could see the basilisk?
Warpac |
The basilisk is not in the pit, it is on a ledge on the other side of the pit. Unless I read the map totally wrong. But, hey, I looked at the map again and I see Wraith's icon on our side of the ledge, so I think you were teleported to the edge of our side of the pit facing the basilisk. That makes a lot of sense to me. The folks that built the gauntlet would not want to have their basilisk killed off. It's supposed to be a trappy challenge and it would be expensive to replace the critter after each test. I wonder if they have a safe guard against teleportation and gaze reflection type spells too.
Pirate GM |
Warpac is correct. Wraith was teleported back into the room with the basilisk but still across the windy pit from it.
No visual portal, just suddenly teleported.
Pirate GM |
No worries there's plenty of confusing stuff in this adventure.
So wraith, you're currently across the windy pit from the basilisk. What are you doing?
Warpac |
"Perhaps you should follow the cloud thing around. Whatever lever it was at last, put that one. As good a pattern as any, I guess."
Pirate GM |
Rayne I'm not quite clear on which lever you're pulling. Neither of the levers in the cell you're in previously contained the electrical cloud.
Warpac |
From the map it looks like you could pull one of the levers in teh middle (left or right) or someone else could pull one of the levers in the north (left or right) but would have to go through the cloud to do so.
