The limber pirate puts the old drunk man to shame, and a few times he looses his balance and topples over. He tries his best however, struggling gamely to achieve some of the more ornate positions.

Karz finally sniffs, "This year would be nice, Jade."

As they finish Brew stands up, legs a bit wobbly and a sheen of sweat on his face. It looks clean though, healthy.

"Aye, I feel better. I wouldn't have believed turning myself into a knot would help but the ship seems steadier now."

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"Good!" Jade says, relieved with the results. "You should finish your trail ration and eat some more while we sail, just to be safe, but I'm glad you're feeling better!"

Jade points at one of the two ropes that are looped around two respective small pillars, which secure the ship to the dock. "Could you pull that loop of the pillar, Brew? And then the other one."

"As soon as we exit the Pillar, I want you to do exactly the same," she continues as she walks up to the main mast. "It'll allow us to sail away faster once everyone's aboard."

She waits for Brew to finish the task. "Just remove the loop from the pillar, and throw the rope onto the deck. The faster you do it, the better. Time will be of the essence when we exit the Pillar."

The man works with rather considerable dexterity, if not experience. At her look he say, 'I used to work with spinning sawblades, Jade. If you don't do it fast, you don't do it at all."

'Speaking of speed, Jade, we need to hurry." Karz says, foot tapping a bit.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"We will," Jade tells Karz. "We're leaving right now."

Jade motions for Brew to come over to the mast, and points at one of the ropes. "This rope's for raising the main mast. Immediately after you've done what you just done, when we're near the ship, I want you to onto the knot on this rope and stand ready to raise the main sail. Undoing the knot's easy."

She takes a step back and motions for Brew to do it. "Go ahead and do it."

Jade walks over to the helm and make sure the rudder's pointing in the right direction to send the ship into the open sea, so she quickly move back over to Brew when the ship starts sailing and can tie a knot in the rope without risking the ship crashing into the dock or anything else.

"Alright, now raise the sail by pulling the rope," Jade says as she returns to Brew, motioning Karz and Jean over as well.

"Once the main sail's raised the ship will start moving. I'll show you which knot to use when the sail's raised."

Once the sail's raised Jade proceeds to tie the knot, meanwhile explaining how she does it.

Any roll you want with that explanation?

"If all three of you forget how to tie the knot, just hold onto the rope till someone else comes to help you. We should have at least three people on board who know how to if all goes to plan."

Jade then quickly moves back to the helm and steers the ship in the direction of the Pillar.

No, that is all right

Brew keeps up, although Jade can tell he has spent little time with rope. He fumbles the knots a few times, but he seems to get better over time. After she finishes he turns to her and says, "Why me? Just because you knew me or...some other reason?"

Ahead the Pillar and the rest of the old bridge starts to loom large. Jade can feel a stiff wind coming out of the south, making the waves dance.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"Two reasons, really," Jade says while reloading the two empty chambers of his pepperbox.

"First, indeed because I knew you and figured you may want to help me 'cause I also helped you. Second, because when we met I had a feeling you were going to waste your life... and I don't like it when people waste their lives. You can be so much more than a drunkard on the stairs to a temple."

"And so I'm helping you help me, while you help me help you. Sounds like the wonderful start of a friendship, if you ask me." Jade snickers and puts her now fully loaded pepperbox away.

Brew looks up and nods, 'Thank you."

Jean comes back saying, 'We are almost to the Pillar. How do we want to do this?"

Karz, at the prow, gazes ahead looking at the increasingly choppy sea.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"You will pretend to be our prisoner, as you're actually supposed to be. Our mission from the Aspis included escorting you to your cell, so we'll do just that. As soon as I know where you're supposed to be locked up I'll know if we'll come across those we're here to free on our way there, or if we won't. Ideally the cell you're supposed to be locked up in is right next to theirs."

Jade points at her backpack. "I have potions of invisibility with me. We free the ones we need to, give all of you an invisibility potion, and we head out. As soon as we're back on the ship I want everyone who's invisible to head belowdecks, to avoid detection. In case we screw up, or in case the unexpected happens, we may have to improvise inside the prison. I hope we'll then still be able to get everyone out, and then we just have to make sure we get on board as fast as possible so we can sail the hell away just as fast."

Jade looks Jean over and cracks a smile. "You may want to undo the disguise. Up to you, I could just tell them that's how you tried to get away from us. Though if you have anything valuable on you I advice you to hand it over to me now, for safekeeping. They'll probably check to see if you don't have anything on you."

Anything big before you sail up to the Pillar? Jade can tell a storm is coming...just what she needs.

Jean nods, and rubs some dirt on his face, rips his clothes, looks quite disheveled. He finally nods to himself, 'Not great, but not bad. Should fool some guards." His pockets are empty, as far as Jade can tell.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade takes a deep breath, golds it for a moment, and lets it out. "Alright... Time to treat you as a prisoner again..."

She takes a rope from her haversack, the one that's now 15 feet, and gives it to Karz. "If you could please tie him up belowdecks?"

Jade then steers the ship straight at the Pillar. "You ready, Brew? Remember what I told you?" she asks, and goes over the plan one last time before they reach the Pillar's dock.

Preparations took some time, but here we go...

'Yeah, yeah." Brew says dismissively, "I can handle it."

Karz ties up Jean, the bard helping him tie knots that look tight but are really fake. The two, despite having very different personalities seem to be hitting it off.

In the increasingly heavy seas they make the docks and start tying up. Two windblown guards shamble out of a little lean-to and flank the dock.

'Who are you and what you bringing ashore?" One shouts over the rising wind.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"Karz and Jay," Jade responds, flashing her Aspis badge. "We've come to lock this fellow up."

Jade points at Jean. "Jean Reinar."

At seeing her badge the guards relax slightly, but not all the way. The Pillar takes security very seriously.

"They finally caught him? About time." One of them grunts and waves them ashore, bowing their heads in the rain that starts to fall.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade steps ashore, casting a quick look around to see if there are more guards present.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Jade sees one other by the solid metal door, huddling over a small metal brazier. On a day like today, guard duty is not very much sought after.

'We'll get your papers." One of the guards shouts, axe in hand. Jade sees they are all wearing heavy armor and helmets emblazoned with Aspis marks. 'Orders, you understand."

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade hands over the paper she received earlier on. "Here you go."

The man takes the paper quickly, but can't read it in the dark rain. he hurries over to the little shelter (where the third guard is warming his hands) and looks it over. The guard at the dock keeps them on the quay, not letting them set foot on the tiny patch of dry land.

In a moment the guard is back, [b]"Checks out ma'am. You can leave him to us, we'll take care of him."['b] he reaches out a mail fist for the rope connected to Jean's hands.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

"We're under direct orders to personally see this man to his cell." Jade point at Karz and herself.

"Reinar's proven a slippery one, and the top wants to make extra sure he has zero chance to get away."

The guard frowns, 'Usually don't let outsiders inside." With a grunt he raps on the solid steel door three times. A slot opens for a brief second and then closes. The door cracks open and an older, hard-faced man emerges. He is wearing nicer armor and a sword at his belt.

'What is this then?" he snaps at the guard.

"She..she wants to go inside, Captain."

He turns on Jade, eyeing her sourly, "What, don't trust us? What you got, some purse snatcher?" he aims a kick at Jean, who takes the blow in the thigh (skillfully).

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

"No," Jade says as she shakes her head. "We have been tasked with the capture of Jean Reinar and the additional task of personally seeing him to his cell. He annoyed some people higher up quite a bit, hence the different treatment."

The Captain grunts and says, melodramatically, 'Fine, we'll all parade inside!" He knocks on the metal door in code. In a moment it slides open and Jade, Korz, and Jean are all guided into a small foyer.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

The room is split in half by iron bars, creating an interior line of defense. Another guards stands on the far side, watching intently.

Jade notes a number arcane markings on the floor, circling this half of the room.

'Stand still." The Captain mutters.

The trio stands still for a moment until the far guard says, 'Ok,t hey are clean."

The Captain strides forward and holds out a hand, "We have to search him. Make sure he isn't smuggling anything inside you missed. Per, Burken, strip him." The two guards (happy to be inside) begin searching Jean over, being rather rough.

You didn't give him anything, did you?

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"Alright." Jade waits patiently, looking around the room.

No, on the contrary; I asked him to hand everything over to me, lest they'd take anything from him.

Jade is stripped and searched, thoroughly and not kindly. It is soon revealed the bard is smuggling nothing and is given a set of standard issue prison clothes (dirty tunic and pants).

'Let's get this over with." the captain says sourly and waves to the guard on the other side of the iron bars. A nod and the door swings open.

Jade, Jean, Korz, the Captain and one guard (at the rear) pass into the Pillar through a heavy stone door.

They find themselves in a large square room. Along each wall a cell has been hollowed out and fronted with heavy steel bars. In the center of the room a massive stone staircase winds upward and downward, lit by dim magical lights.

"I think we have some room below." the Captain says and starts to lead the procession down the stairs.

You know your friends happen to be two floors above this one,the highest level before you reach the Abadar run levels.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

The gnome as well?

The gnome is two floors below. The Aspis really hate Pathfinder guys. The lower you get the worse things are.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade follows the Captain downstairs, seeing as she needs to descend at some point anyway.

"He should be low," Jade says in reaction to the Captain. "Together with the other scum, like those rotten Pathfinders."

She hopes her comment, in addition to what she's said earlier about the higher ups not liking Jean, will make the Captain decide to descend to the same level the gnome's at.

Jade would by the way have shared the locations of the cells with Karz, together with the names of the gnome and her friends.

Got it. Sorry about getting KArz's name wrong last post. That is what i get for having one NPC named Korz and another named Karz in two different games.

Karz grunts in agreement with her statement and even manhandles Jean a bit to empathize. The little man looks fairly worked over at this point and Jade wonders how much of it is acting.

'Something personal?" the Captain asks mildly at hearing Jade's tone.

They arrive at the next level down, one below the main entrance. It is darker and dirtier here. The same four cells, but instead of one prisoner each, here they there are three or four crowded in.

The Captain looks at one of them and shrugs, 'Here is at as good as any, I suppose." he starts to riffle with a large ring of keys at his belt.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

You had me more confused when I read Jade was stripped and searched, haha!

"You won't believe how much trouble we went through to capture this bastard," Jade says with venom in her voice.

"I insist you put him at least one lower. He deserves even worse than this here." she motions at the cells.

Perception, to see which specific key he's reaching for: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

I have to slow down...

The keys seem to be color coded but Jade is unsure which are for which floor.

The Captain raises an eyebrow. "The black treatment?"

Jade Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

He nods, "Works for me, these are getting full anyway."

Slowly he leads them down to the next level. Halfway down the broad stairs are a pair of guards, standing straight and attentive, bright spears in hand. They salute the Captain as he walks past.

Jade Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22

Jade notes the game of dice hastily pushed into a dark corner.

The base of the stairs is in pitch-darkness, with no magical lighting. With a grunt the Captain places a palm on a square of dark stone and a few dim lights appear. There is another square next to it that he takes care not to touch.

Here is the same set up but even dirtier, with a damp, rotting feel. The cells are packed with men and women, all who start shouting instantly begging for food and water. Most of them look malnourished and sickly, wearing dirty, torn rags.

'More your liking?" the man says.

The stairs go down more

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"Better," Jade comments to the man. "This will do."

Perception, to see if I can spot the gnome in one of the cells: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26

If I spot the gnome, based on the description Lady Heidmarch no doubt gave me:
"There are some nice rowdy types in there," Jade comments, pointing at the cell. "Let's put him in that one."

Jade motions for Karz to move toward the guards on the stairs.

Bluff, so only Karz notices it: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Jade spots the gnome, a small shrunken figure pressed against the bars. Deviloius Kowilious is silent and pale, two large lamp-like eyes looking up at her, blinking furiously in the (to him) new light.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

The Captain looks at Jade keenly. "Why do you care so much? For just an errand runner for Godfrey, you have quick eyes and insist on alot." Jade notices his hand steals toward the sword he wears at his belt.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade stays quiet for a moment, to give Karz time to move over to the guards on the stairs. If he hasn't already.

"Karz, block the stairs!" Jade then yells as she draws her rapier.

Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

"Know what's nice about this level?" Jade asks the Captain. "They're all screaming already. Nobody will hear it if some more scream are added. Now open that cell and let the gnome at the front out."

The man glances at Jade's rapier coolly and starts to pull his own blade.

'Prison break is a dangerous game, girl."

Roll initiative, your intimidate wasn't high enough. Also there is one other guard behind all of you. Do you need a map?

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

A map would be nice. Nothing fancy's required though, just a grid with some lines for walls will do.

That guard was directly behind us, wasn't he? So Karz would've had to step past him to get to those on the stairs? (Hoping the guard didn't try to stop him when I hadn't yet turned hostile.)

Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Karz: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Jean: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Captain: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Guard: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Battle order: Jean, Jade, Guard, Karz, Captain

Seeing battle start Jean rolls out of the way, sliding across the grimy floor with some skill. He reaches for a blade that is not there.

The prisoners burst into a loud raucous set of cheering and jeering, totally covering the sounds of battle. Jade spots the gnome watching her carefully.

Map Here!

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade take a stab at the captain...

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d6 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 8 = 15

...but misses by a yard. Feeling that she has to compensate for her first attack Jade adds a flair of panache to her next stab.

Spending 1 point of Panache to double my Precise Strike damage as a Swift Action.
+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 Damage, Precise Strike (Doubled): 1d6 + 2 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 16 = 21
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

I instantly regain my point of Panache if that crit connects.

At Jade's first strike, the Captian moves faster then she thought the slightly pudgy man capable of. With skill, his own blade reflects hers in a shower of sparks.

Still, Jade has tricks of her own. Dipping into her inner reserve she lashes out quicker then a striking snake. her blows lands, hard, int he man's chest. A red blossom of blood blooms suddenly and the man staggers back, wincing at the huge wound Jade just opened.

Nice rolls. You have your panache back

The guard watches this with an open mouth and darts around Karz. The half-orc takes a heavy blow at the running man.

Karz AoO: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

The guard dodges the blow, still running. He reaches up and slaps the stone panel besides the one that operated the light.

Instantly the room's lights change to a dull red and there is a dim sound of an alarm blaring. Jade can hear footsteps from above.

Karz growls and says, 'An alarm." Even as he speaks his muscles grow and enhance, a bestial rage over-taking the usually well-spoken half-orc.

Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

The first blow misses but the second hits the guard hard across the chest, slashing a large bleeding wound. The guard gasps hard, staggering backward.

"You are trapped now." The Captain says grimly, "The doors are shut fast by now and everyone is converging on this spot."

Jean shouts, 'What do we do?" he holds his actions for your orders. It is your turn

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

I have a feeling I'll need a lot of good rolls. Should've gone for that guard first, this escalated twice as fast as I'd hoped for.

"Shit, I knew that button was bad news," Jade curses below her breath.

"We're going to deal with these guys, then open all the prison doors here to create chaos!" Jade shouts back at Jean.

"You don't happen to be handy with lockpicks, do you Jean? There's a masterwork set of thieves tools in my right pocket, in case you are!"

Jade takes two more stabs at the Captain, adding another touch of panache to her first attack.

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31 Damage, Precise Strike (Doubled): 1d6 + 2 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 16 = 19
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d6 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 8 = 14
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Spending 1 point of Panache again as a Swift Action. Will regain it if either crit confirms.

Oops....I forgot the Captain's turn...So ret-con ahoy

The surly man lashes out with his own blade, seeking to disarm Jade.

Improved Disarm: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35

Jade's blade falls to the ground, deftly manuvered out of her grip. Face like a stone, the man then attacks her.

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

The blade goes wide and Jade easily ducks under the blow.

Sorry about that. You can pick up your blade, which will provoke an AoO. We can use your rolls from above if you wish to do that.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade smirks when her weapon hits the ground. She steps on the pommel of her blade, causing it to move vertical like a rake, and kicks the weapon up and back into her hand.

"Alas, mate."

She then proceeds to attack, taking two more stabs at the Captain.

I'll forgo using my Swift Action to double the damage from Precise Strike, and will instead use it to Kick Up my rapier! ;)

That's -8 damage on my first attack, for a total of 11 instead of 19.

Very cool, but he does still get an AoO as I read the ability,
you just still have full movement so you can attack him twice. That one crit landed so reclaim your panache.

Captain AoO: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19

The Captain scrabbles at Jade, but he motion is too smooth, too practiced. In an instant her blade is in her hands again, jabbing at him. Her blade slices the man's neck, easily slipping past his hasty guard. A spurt of blood showers the inmates in the cell behind him, and the man gasps painfully. he manages to keep his feet but just barely. Jade judges a stiff breeze would knock him down.

jean's held action

At Jade's barked orders the little man slides up and grabs the lockpicks. With speed, he runs back to another cell and tries to open it.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
Despite his obvious skill, the tricky cell doors defeat him for a moment.

The wounded guard looks at the enraging half-orc and throws down his weapon.

'Please, don't-"

Karz's turn

Even as he says it Karz smashes down, his blow nearly splitting the man in two, leaving him a mere hunk of bleeding, savaged flesh. With a bestial howl the half-orc says, 'More coming...from above and below."

The two guards from above appear on the stairs, axes at the ready. Karz grins, blood dripping.

Jade Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33

Jade can hear, over the hollering of the inmates and the dying of the guard, very heavy footsteps rising from below.

Captain's turn

"You are outnumbered and cornered. What do you hope to achieve? Surrender and you may yet live."

The man takes a step backward, out of Jade;s reach and throws a bag at her feet. It explodes into a sticky series of coiling tentacles.

Jade Reflex Save Tanglefoot Bag: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

With ease Jade dodges the sticky stuff and is free and clear.

You are up

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"Take care of those from above," Jade tells Karz.

Jade sees the Captain's about to go down and steps up to him while thrusting her blade forward, intend on finishing him.

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 Damage, Precise Strike (Doubled): 1d6 + 2 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 16 = 24

Assuming he goes down with my attack:
With the Captain down, Jade takes the ring of keys from his belt.

"Keep trying, Jean. I'll see if I can open this door quickly, else I'll come over to intercept those coming from below and I want you to try this door first."

Jade takes a look at the keys on the ring. She noticed the color code earlier and remembers the Captain mentioning the 'black treatment,' so she looks for a black coded key.

"Deviloius Kowilious, I am here to free you and some others," Jade tells the gnome while fiddling with the keys. "Stay as close to me as possible, at all times. I'm going to open the flood gates here to create some chaos."

Jade's strike slices right through the man's heart. As he crumples to the ground he says, blood dripping from his mouth, "You cannot get out.."

Even as his body slumps to the floor, Jade has his keys and starts to rifle through them. She sees no black key...

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31

She does see some blue paint on the lock and finds a blue key. It looks to fit into the lock. As she speaks, the gnome is pushed towards the door as the inmates bellow, 'Just open the door!"

Over on the other side Jean cackles and his door bursts open, and a flood of dirty, unkempt men and women pour out, some falling to the floor, others rushing around in a sort of crazed delight.

At the stairs, Korz trades blows with the guards, steel rattling off steel.

He shouts, over the din, "There is something coming up...something big."

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade unlocks the door and quickly takes a step aside to let the door fly open. The moment it does Jade hooks an arm around the gnome's elbow and pulls him to her side, to avoid him being overrun by all the others pouring out of the cell.

"Jean, to me!" Jade yells. Stay close, we're going up!

"We're coming, Karz!"

As Jade grabs a hold of the still silent gnome, they are surrounded by a mass of prisoners. The press is intense and Jade has trouble even staying upright.
Reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

She does though and begins moving toward the stairs. She hears Karz growl and strikes down one of the guards. As the pirate comes up to the stairs, she can see one bloody guard and a stiff figure coming up the stairs. As it steps into the light, she can see cogs and gears in the gaps of this metallic creature’s armor. It wields a polearm as it stands ready at attention.

The face, hammered bronze is impassive as it takes a defensive position.

If I get this right, then the clockwork creature's still on the stairs leading down and the remaining guard's on the stairs leading up?

"Karz, take Jean and our other friend here one floor up," Jade says as she steps up besides the half-orc. "I'm going to hold back this thing for a moment, then I'll follow you!"

Jade then turns to the remaining guards and takes two strong stabs at him, adding panache to her first attack.

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 Damage, Precise Strike (Doubled): 1d6 + 2 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 16 = 24
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d6 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 8 = 14
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Spent 1 point of Panache, and it'll be regained if either crit confirms.

Jade quickly turns her head to Jean. "Forget the other cells here! Go up a level with Karz and open as many cells as you can there! I'll follow soon, and then we head straight to my other friends!"

yes, but it is close enough to get to your level very easily

Jade's blow fell the one living guard, already wounded by Korz. He falls into a puddle of gurgling blood, crying out for some distant lover or perhaps mother.

Korz grabs Jean and the gnome like toys and bolts up the stairs. As he does so the clockwork bounds after them, dividing Jade from the rest of them. Behind Jade the inmates press forward, one stumbling past her up the stairs.

Like a flash the construct whirls, and the halberd swings down and kills the man instantly, sprawling his dead body over the stone stairs. It faces Jade, now, two steps above her, bloody weapon in hand.

If the construct moved from below me to above me on the stairs, then I take it he passed through some squares I threaten?

AoO, in case I indeed get one:
+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d6 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 8 = 14
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Jade takes a single step that covers the distance between the construct and her, and lunges forward to deliver a strong stab. "You're in my way!"

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31 Damage, Precise Strike (Doubled): 1d6 + 2 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 16 = 20
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Spent 1 Panache. Regained if crit confirms.

She immediately attacks again...

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d6 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 8 = 12

...but messes up and stabs the staircase instead.

I guess it did, the stairs probably aren't wide enough for it to dodge you. Your crit range is insane!

As it rushes past Jade slashes at it, her needle sharp blade sneaking under the hard armor and finds some softer metal underneath. She can hear the whirring and grinding of gears as she causes damage.

After it reaches the top Jade lunges at it, provoking an attack from the quick machine.

Clockwork AoO: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30
Damage: 1d10 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21

Ouchies

It moves with blurring speed and slashes a blow on the pirate's upper shoulder. Jade pushes through it though and hies the clockwork beast again. Her thin blade defeats the armor again and finds weaker mechanism beneath. She hears more scraping and grinding, and a few small springs pop out. Jade has damaged it badly.

The machine takes a single step Five foot backward, to bring its long halberd back to bear.

Attack: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (2) + 21 = 23

Damage: 1d10 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22

That hits unless you have swashbuckler thing that prevents it?

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

The moment the construct attacks Jade, she uses her panache to dodge the attack and quickly close in on the construct before it can pull back any further.

Using 1 point of Panache to use the Dodging Panache deed. I gain a +3 dodge bonus versus the construct's attack, after which I get to move 5 feet without risking an AoO from my attacker. Using the 5 feet to close in with the construct.

Now standing right in front of the machine, Jade delivers two rapid stabs and hopes that's enough to deal with the metal enemy.

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d6 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 8 = 15
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d6 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 8 = 14

If that crit confirms I regain 1 point of Panache. (Likewise if I take the construct out.)
