Dot! :)

Magnimar. City of Monuments. Second city in Varisia, home to over 15,000 souls. A trade node of the north, its packed docks and quays full of ships from the Linnorm lands to the north to everywhere from the Shackles to Osirion to the south. The imposing city, littered with monuments from long gone empires and kingdoms, is a prideful place, quite aware of its growing and improving status (especially when set against that of Korvosa). The merchant families and trading houses are some of the largest north of Cheliax, rich and strong, and quite capable of using violence to stay that way.

In a city this big and complex, crime flourishes. Pirates drink in dockside grog-shops, cut-purses roam the inner streets and gangs run whole city blocks. While not nearly as bad as Korvosa (let alone Cassomir) Mangimar is a city with a deep and complex criminal underground. Men (and women) can be hired for any task from bank robbery to assassination, if one has the coin for it.

To combat this, Magnimar hosts a rather impressive prison, the Osprey Pillar. Carved from the massive and ancient Irespan itself, it is an imposing structure, enough to strike fear in the heart of any criminal. Towering 300 feet above the waves, it houses criminals of every class from lowly street beggar to embezzling nobleman awaiting trail. Oddly enough, the prison is split into two parts. The lower part of the piling, washed and fleck by waves is run by the rapacious Aspis Consortium, and filled with the most violent or poor criminals. The upper levels are run by the local church of Abadar, and contain a much more humane jail for those of better blood (or deeper pockets). For over a hundred years the Ospery Pillar has stood and although the odd man or woman has escaped their has never been a mass breakout.

It is a tough town for a jailbreak.

After two days on the road Magnimar was finally visible in the distance. Jade stops a moment to grab a handful of dirt and use it to make her face and hair dirty. She wasn't about to enter the city looking like she usually did.

Disguise, minor details only: 1d20 + 3 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 5 = 23

As a final touch Jade takes off her sleeves of many garments for a brief moment, before slipping them back on. While the sleeves are off not much changed, safe that Jade's mithral chain shirt suddenly becomes visible. When the sleeves are back on, Jade's clothes change into those of a peasant, her golden earrings become bronze, and her headband and weapons are no longer visible.

Why use a disguise kit if I have these sleeves? Just add some dirt and that's all I need.

Jade continues her way to Magnimar, soon reaching the city. She keeps an eye on the guards as she passes the city's gate, but expects no trouble.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

The landward gates are large, wide enough for three ox wagons to enter abreast. Large steel doors are surmounted by stone battlements and impressive turrets.

For all that though, they are little used. The vast majority of travelers enter mys ea and only the local peasants from surrounding farms and fields use the landward gates with any regularity. The extensive fortifications are in case of a siege, when a foe by land may invest the entire city.

A small company of guards lounge around the gates, wearing the sky blue of Magnimar troops. One of them, with dark red hair and a face covered in freckles stops Jade with a upraised hand and says, "Name and business in the city?" The words are bored routine.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

"Jay," Jade replies to the guard. "Family visit."

Might have to add something...

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Jade smiles her brightest smile at the guard, hoping to catch him off-guard with a trick that usually works on men. "And I was hoping to spot some cute guards."

The guard grins, a bit foolishly. He says, "Orvol, write her in. Peasant on family business, Jay." and wave a hand to another bored guard leaning on a podium. The man enters the info on a wax tablet, a record of everyone who entered the city in this gate.

The freckled guard waves Jay in through the gate.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade gives the guard a wink and moves through the gate. Her first instinct is to head straight to the prison and check it out, but she decides she'd better head to the port first.

Morley's ship had been about to leave Magnimar when Jade arrived to attack him. She has to know if he's left the city while she was recovering from the battle, or if he's still here.

Perception to spot Morley's ship, once I'm at the port (Take 20): 20 + 11 = 31

If Morley's gone, Jade will gather info on how long he's been gone and where he went. If he's still in the city, Jade will gather info on when he's about to leave and where he'll go.

Diplomacy, Gather Info: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Pazio ate my post last night...

When Jade enters the city, she is struck by the sights, sounds and smells of the huge city. Magnimar holds over 15,000 souls and they all leave a mark. merchants, traders and shop keeps sell wares from every corner.

To her left rises the massive Seacleft, the huge cliff that divides the city. Hundreds of feet high and sheer, it provides a dramatic backdrop for the nearby buildings. This quarter is known as Lowcleft and is full of small taverns, upscale brothels, art houses and poetry rooms. The artistic heart of the city.

Jade hurries past it down to Dockway, the next quarter down the cobblestone streets. The city here is a turmoil of sailors, captains, merchants and salesmen. Warehouses, counting houses, banks, grog shops and custom buildings fill the cramped space, all leading down to the endless salt-encrusted wharves and piers that keep the city alive. Jade feels at home in the nautical atmosphere.

Searching the crowded wharves she doesn't see the Grinning Moon Morley's ship.

She ducks into a few of the grog houses and asks around. The rumors abound to where he went. Some claim he went north to hire Ulfen sailors. Others say he sailed to Cheliax on business of the city while others say he has broken ties and sailed tot he Shackles permanently.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

With one less worry Jade gets to the main task at hand. She has to find a way to enter and leave the Osprey Pillar, find out where the guards are stationed and how they move, and find out where exactly her allies are being held inside the prison.

Jade decides she'll start by getting a clear view of what she's trying to infiltrate. She moves as close to the Osprey Pillar as she can while staying in Dockway, to see if there's an entrance there. Of course she'll meanwhile keep her eyes open for the locations of guards, or a guard station.

Perception (take 20): 20 + 11 = 31

The bustling docks take Jade right to the edge of land. From here there is only the choppy water of the bay, crashing over the few scraggly wharves this far. Th is is the bad part of Dockway, very near the criminal ridden slum district of the Underbridge. Few people hang around here, and the few ships tied up look rotting and wreacked.

The area does offer a spectacular view of the rearing Irespan, hundreds of feet above the tossing waves. The bottom of the Osprey Pillar lies two hundred yards from the shore where Jade watches, in surprisingly deep water. Even now a small ship is tied up at the base where a small landing space has been carved out of the dark blue stone.

The ship flies the red and black flag of the rapacious Aspis Consortium. She knows they run the lower, less reputable part of the prison but that is all. She can't see much as this distance but is clear they have a small dock there for unloading food, supplies and prisoners. The ship is riding poorly int he high waves and Jade shakes her head at the display of poor seamanship. They will be luckily to unload and be off before smashing the ship ont he pillar itself.

High, high above, a few tiny windows can be made out. Impossibly remote and distant, all dark and barred. They start far up. The Aspis cells have no windows.

Jade suddenly feels a chill in the air.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Feeling a sudden chill in the air, jade decides to take her coat from her backpack and dons it. While looking at the Aspis agents unloading the ship, she tries to recall where the Aspis Consortium's base is in Magnimar.

Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

I doubt that roll will yield more info than possibly the location, but all info about the base is welcome if it happens to be common knowledge.

The Aspis base of operations is no secret in Magnimar. Indeed the city is proud to host the commercial company and brags about it quite often. The House of Bronze is an imposing stone building at the heart of Dockway, with a view over the inner harbor. This house is one of the northern centers for the Constortium run by gold agent Gold is the highest level of agent in the Consortium Maiveer Sloan.

Choices made at the House of Bronze effect every nation from the distant Crown of the World to Nidal. Not all in Magniamr are pleased with this, but they do bring much trade and wealth into the City of Monuments.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade continues to watch the Aspis ship, to see where it will go once its load's dropped off.

The ship seems to unloading heavy cargo, and as it is unloaded via small crane and strong backs, the ship rides higher and higher int he heavy surf. The waves whip white around it and suddenly Jade realizes it is going to founder.

Only a few moments pass before she is proven right. The Aspis boat, riding high, smashes against the massive pillar and shatters. The small sailboat is soon turned to kindling, and men and goods began filling the water, yelling for help.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

The idiots can't even swim...

Jade tries to estimate if she can get to the Aspis agents before they'll drown, but 200 yards is quite a large distance to cover by swimming. Yet even if the agents were to die, that would create other opportunities.

First letting out a slightly annoyed sigh, Jade jumps into the water and starts swimming toward the fools.

Taking 10 for a total of 19 on Swim, which should get me across in rough water. With 200 yards to cover it will take me 4 minutes to reach them. Please update me on the situation as I move toward the drowning agents / their corpses.

Jade hits the water, cutting through it smoothly despite the choppy waves. A lifetime had sea has given her a strong stroke and she is soon closing the distance.

The ship fragments to debris quickly, scattering in the water. The men at the little dock seem ins hock and more concern with getting the goods stored away and less with rescue. A few ropes are thrown out but no one plunges into the water.

A few have already drowned by the time Jade reaches the expanding mass of ship and men, each howling for help and aid. Rumor has it sharks (or worse) patrol these water, fed by the jailers in Osprey Pillar, to discourage escape.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade swims up to one of the Aspis agents who's still struggling to not drown. "Grab my hand!"

As soon as the agent takes hold of her, Jade starts swimming toward one of the ropes, dragging him or her along.

"Get more ropes out and help!" Jade yells at the Aspis agents at the dock. "You wouldn't want fellow agents to let you drown, would you?!"

Jade will then try to repeat the process of swimming up to an agent and bringing the agent to a rope. She continuously tries to keep her eyes open for danger from below.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Jade's shout rouse the Aspis agents a little, but no one rises the ranks of the Consortium by caring too much about rivals. Jade also notices a few of them are just normal sailors, probably hired for the day.

Jade saves half a dozen men (and one woman) by guiding them to the ropes. The seas calm a little, and some of the remains of the boat start to float and create little islands of safety.

Suddenly Jade, keeping an eye out see a silver flash int he water and one of the flailing men (a big fellow with an eyepatch) suddenly vanishes. He is replaced by a slick of red blood which then dissipates. A thin fin rises above the water and Jade, with long experience can tell it is a giant barracuda, common in these waters and probably drawn by the chumming of the jail guards.

Jade's first priority is her own life and the moment she sees the giant barracuda she grabs hold of the wreckage next to her.

Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

She tries to climb up, but one of her hands slips off the wet wood.

Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Placing her hand in a better position, Jade's then able to pull herself out of the water and onto the wreckage.

"To the rope, quick!" Jade yells at the sailor near the barracuda.

She puts her hands to her mouth and yells at the people at the dock: "Pull him in when he reaches the rope! Quick!"

Jade finally turns to the sailor who's on the same piece of wreckage as her and point at the other sailor nearby, in the water. "Pull him up, now!"

Meanwhile Jade tries to recall or estimate how much giant barracudas eat, seeing as there are quite some corpses in the water and it's already grabbed one sailor.

Untrained Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7

Or maybe her experience with such creatures can tell her:
Profession (Sailor): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Due to Jade's shouts the sailor makes it to the rope and they pull him in. The downside is, there is now no rope to help herself. Another sailor jumps on their wreckage as well, making it bob low in the water.

Your bit of floating wood is washed by a thin coat of water. Difficult terrain.

Jade has sailed these seas for years and knows the denizens well although barracuda generally don't attack people. She does know once they start attacking they will generally kill anything in the water, in order to reduce threats from other creatures. Also, they nearly always travel in pairs.

As she ponders this the massive fish turns and rams right at her, rearing out of the water. The fish is smooth and strong, a fully grown adult. A huge mouth full of razor teeth snaps at her, from just a few feet away.

Barracuda bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

But it misses by a hair and Jade relaxes for a brief second.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"Toss the rope out again!" Jade yells at the dock, figuring they need a step by step guide.

Closing her eyes for a second, Jade says a quick prayer.

Don't kill me...

Jade takes a deep breath and leans over the edge, dropping herself back in the water. While underwater Jade draws her rapier and aims to stab at the barracuda next to the wreckage.

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d8 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 8 = 17

Piercing weapon, so no penalties underwater.

Are there any, preferably Aspis, corpses floating about?

A few bits of netting and a drowned, floating agent. Also,w ho does Jade pray to, anyway?

Jade's rapier strikes true, slicing through the water cleanly. It punches a deep hole in the side of the big fish, and red blood streams out. It rolls away, thrashing in a fury, throwing up white foam. It retreats, staying close to the surface.

The other sailors cheer at the blow. On the shore, the other agents look like they will refuse to throw out the line, terrified and pointing at the ravaging fish.

But a stout looking dwarf grabs the cord and heaves it back out, with a mighty cast.

Just as he does so another fin appears on the surface, and drives right at the floating spar Jade and others are balanced on. It hits like a battering ram, shaking the entire raft.

One of the other sailors slips off, the slippery wood too tough to hold onto.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

She said a prayer to Gozreh.

Swim: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Jade's primarily concerned with the new arrival when it appears. Hoping the wounded barracuda will leave her be for now, Jade dives under the wreckage to reach the other barracuda and attack it.

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d8 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 8 = 16

This time she's only able to pierce the water.

Jade's swipe goes wide, missing the slivery fish. It revenge it snaps back, jaws agape.

Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Ouchies

The sharp teeth slice into Jade's flesh with ease, throwing a crimson sheet of blood into the water. It rolls towards her, circling, obviously eager to finish the job.

In the meantime, the other sailor climbs back up on the wood, safe from immediate drowning. The other barracuda draws off, heading toward the other makeshift raft of men.

At a distance, a small fishing boat is coming up, with men armed with spears and gaffs at the rails. They yell for everyone to hold on.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

How'd that 18 hit me? I shouldn't lose my Dex bonus unless I'm flailing about in the water, and I made a successful Swim check... :S

"Creatures flailing about in the water (usually because they failed their Swim checks) have a hard time fighting effectively. An off-balance creature loses its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, and opponents gain a +2 bonus on attacks against it." - Aquatic Terrain

Jade grits her teeth and stabs twice at the barracuda in front of her, determined to take the aggressive creature out before it claims a victim.

+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d8 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 8 = 14
Confirm crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d8 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 8 = 14
+1 Adamantine Rapier: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d8 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 8 = 16
Confirm crit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 Damage, Precise Strike: 1d8 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 8 = 12

Wow, those rolls...

That is what I get for posting in a hurry at work..

Jade dispatches the barracuda with panache and skill, sliding the rapier blade right through the skull of the creature. It thrashes once, nerves still firing, then it falls still. Slowly it sinks into the depths of the harbor.

The other fish bites one of the other sailors, but the wound is light. Soon the fishing boat arrives, and the other fish vanishes into the dark blue water. With their help the other sailors and agents are taken ashore.

Do you go ashore or on the fishing boat?

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

While the people in the fishing boat are occupied with helping the sailors in the boat, Jade stays under the cover of the red water and swims up to the corpse of the Aspis agent. She sheaths her rapier and searches the corpse for the Aspis agent's badge.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Jade then swims back to the dead barracuda, hopefully pocketing the badge before emerging from the water.

Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

"I've got it," she says, climbing aboard the fishing boat before someone can help her.

ooh, clever!

Jade grabs a small bronze pin, the lowest rank, before surfacing.

As she clambers up on the boat, one of the fishermen, gaunt, gray-haired man says, 'You have got skill with that sticker there of yours. We saw you kill that fish from all the way out in the bay. How did you do it, you some kind of adventurer?"

The men crowd around closely, looking to see such an amazing swords(wo)man.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Glad I was able to grab it!

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

"I've seen my fair share of adventure before I went to Magnimar," Jade says to the men, giving them her most charming smile.

Jade wraps her cloak around her soaking wet body. She nods at the dock at the foot of the Osprey Pillar. "I wasn't actually headed there, but is there a room where I can rest? I don't fancy swimming back to shore just yet." She adds a snicker to the last part of what she says, turning it in a joke.

The man shrugs and says, "Not much space on board, miss. We are only a day boat, no cabins or anything. And the deck be a busy place during the day, or I'd let you stay. We can drop you off anywhere in the city, if you'd like?" the men grumble agreement even though this would cost them time spent fishing.

One of the younger men adds, 'Anyone who saves people from drowning, is a good one in my book!" And the other men nod firmly.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

"Pardon, I wasn't talking about resting on your boat," Jade says, realizing her mistake. The fishing boat she's on likely isn't part of the Aspis.

Must've missed where they came from while I was underwater...

She flashes the bronze badge and points at the dock at the foot of the Osprey Pillar. "I'd like to go to the Pillar. Could you drop me off?"

I assume the agents I helped to the rope are still on that dock? What's the situation like, is it still chaotic?

Quite chaotic. Men are still being dragged in, healed, dried off, wreckage being gathered

The fisherman nods, and for the first time a look of fear crosses his face. 'Yes, ma'am. Bring her about boys!" He turns back and adds, 'Sorry to keep you waiting." The grins vanish off everyone's face and they fall to work, tripping over themselves.

They soon are at the makeshift dock, the massive enormity of the Pillar looming above them.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Wow, they really don't like the Aspis...

"Thanks for all the trouble," Jade tells the men, feeling quite bad for them.

Just before the fishing boat arrives at the chaotic dock Jade turns the ship's captain. "I've only recently obtained my bronze badge. I have no idea what the Aspis did to you, but I'd be glad to hear you out. You may have noticed I'm the kind of person who helps others, rather than hurt them. May I ask where you usually hang out in the evenings? I'd like a chance to buy you all a drink as you tell me your story, as a proper way of thanking you."

When the boat arrives Jade gets off and nods at the captain and his men. "Take care, men."

Jade takes a look at the entrance to the prison now she's up close.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Bunch of questions: I assume they haven't closed the door in the chaos? What can I see inside? Are there any guards stationed, in- or outside? What kind of door is it, and what's the lock like? Any other info that could be useful is also welcome :)

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

She then heads to the people she helped get to the ropes, showing them her most charismatic smile. "How are you holding up? You're lucky I was around to help."

The older fishing man looks suspicious, a lifetime of wariness on his aged face. One of the younger men speaks up though, 'We have nothing against the Aspis, ma'am. Nothing at all, don't bother with us."

They leave Jade off and quickly row back out to deeper waters. None even wave at her, quick to put a Aspis agent behind them.

The dock is small and square, cut out of the rock of the Pillar. It has two small stone wharves and a longer wooden one (currently smashed). Boxes and crates are stacked on the bare stone, obviously meant for unloading and loading, either in or out. Some look quite weathered.

A small stone hut, able to fit two or three men stands there a guard house of some sort, although it is empty right now with all the commotion.

There are two doors. One was a large one, for bigger cargo in and out. It is made of copper, long turned green and crusted with salt and tarnish. They look strong though, and well-kept. One door stands open, swung wide. Inside is dark, but Jade can see a crowded warehouse looking place, boxes and goods stacked up. Provisions and other goods are packed there and Jade sees a few men in there, taking notes and surveying it.

There is also a small, single person copper door built into the pillar as well. It has no handle and sees to open outward. A small mesh grille is in place above it, but it is closed right now. It is quite close to the larger door.

When Jade speaks a few of the men and women ignore her. The pirate suddenly notices some of them are brands or shackle marks Some of these are prisoners, brought up to help with the heavy task of unloading.

The stout dwarf she noticed was an agent though, with a bright brass pin. He is a young fellow, with a full black beard stained white by sea spray. Dark eyes and a heavy brow give me a somber look, despite his smile.

"Yes, indeed. We are getting things squared away." The dwarf looks up at Jade, a bit of a frown, 'What were you doing at the dock, anyway? I saw you jump in the water." He points to where Jade can be idly watching the unloading.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade lets out a soft sigh as the fishermen drop her off. At least she tried to be friendly.

Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 Perfect!

"I was just trying to figure out how to get here when that boat crashed," Jade tells the dwarf while showing him the bronze badge, which she's meanwhile pinned to the inside of her cloak. "I've been given the task to check which of the Jade Pirates have been captured after their recent attack, and to interrogate them about the whereabouts of several key figures of their crew."

She shrugs as she continues to talk. "Figured I may as well jump in and swim over when I saw what happened. If I show off that I can handle myself and shout commands at others in the meantime, it'll only help me reach silver faster." Jade adds a wicked grin to the last part.

"Say... I don't fancy swimming back though, if there's no point in swimming. Once a day is enough for me. When's the next boat headed to shore? Guess I'll have to finish my business before then..."

Jade takes another looks around the dock.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Are there any other boats or ships of any kind docked here? If so, how many people could get on board and how long would it take to be off with it?

The dwarf nods. Aspis agents could be brutal to each other int he quest for rank, but Magnimar was a big place, plenty of room to be polite. The dwarf shrugs a bit, "Don't know much about any pirates. I manage the work done by the prisoners, not their crimes. We export a fair deal..."

"As for other ships, nothing scheduled. We usually only get a ship every other day or so, unless something unusual is going on. Of course, today, another one will be coming to pick up these idiots, probably in a couple of hours." He laughs a bit, 'Hopefully they send someone who knows a keel from an oar." He nods to Jade, "If you don't fancy waiting out here, you can wait inside, if you like."

There are no other ships. Perhaps by design, so prisoners can't steal one and make off.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Jade shows the dwarf a wry smile. "Well, like I said, I need to check which of those pirates have been captured and interrogate some. That will have to happen inside."

As she walks to the prison's door with the dwarf she asks, "Is there some room I can take them to for interrogations?"

The dwarf shrugs again, "I'm not in charge of that. You'll want Marzo for that, he is the Commandant of the Osprey Pillar." The dwarf points at a large man with a shaved head by the main door. Middle-aged with just a hint of paunch, he has some Ulfen blood in him, if Jade is any judge. A bright silver badge is on his cloak, and a short axe hangs from his belt. His eyes are bright and small, darting around the area.

The chaos is winding down now, as prisoners are gathered together and create lines to move goods inside. The wounded sailors are taken inside for more treatment and care (or herded to the edge of the docks if unharmed).

'Do you want me to introduce you?" the dwarf asks.

"If you could do the introductions, yes please. Name's Jill, by the way. It may help."

I think my bluff was flawless. The badge and the dwarf's word should add credibility for this Marzo...

By the gods, you have nerve!

The dwarf leads her over, walking easily among the resumed order. He is quite at home here, among the slippery and windswept rock.

He stops in front of Marzo and inclines his head, 'Got someone for you, sir. Says her name is Jill, a bronze agent, looking to interrogate some pirate prisoners? She was the one who saved a bunch of the men." he says, a bit proudly as if he got credit for knowing such a hero.

Marzo's eye go flat and he says, "I heard nothing of this. Do you have any papers or orders, agent? Sloan wouldn't send some nobody out here without identification." he rounds on the dwarf who starts to look a little pale, 'Did you ask for her papers, Thirus? Did it even cross your thick skull to go through proper channels?"

The man stares hard at Jill, "Well?"

You fooled Thirus but Marzo is a bit tougher of a case!

I had never intended to be here yet, but with everything in chaos I figured I should take the shot. My original intention was to spend a couple of days gathering intel and come up with a sound plan! xD

Sh!t... 'Kay, no lies, just tell him what he wants to hear... Sort of...

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Jade gives Marzo an apologetic look, biting her lip as she speaks. "I'm sorry, sir, but paper and water don't mix well... I hope you can forgive me for not being able to present any papers to you, considering the unfortunate circumstances?"

"I've only recently acquired my badge, and had hoped my actions would... Well, impress..."

Jade's slowly feeling some genuine anxiety crawling up. She's hoping Marzo will take that the good way.

Marzo glares at her, "Bravery is one thing, but recklessness is another. Silver does not go to those who rush into things, blind to consequences." He turns an eye on the dwarf, "Or those who ignore regulations."

"In any case, I have ways of communicating with Sloan. I shall speak to him and return. I shall see what your orders were." He shakes his head, "Do not think I am always this forgiving but the matter with the sailors was well done. Do not enter until I return, either of you." he says coldly before withdrawing into the building and the copper gates.

Feeling so screwed right now...

Jade nods at Marzo, her mind racing as she went over her options. Should she stay, hoping on the abysmal chance that someone else had the generic mission to 'interrogate some pirate prisoners?' Her only other option seemed to be jumping back in the water and swimming off as fast as she can...

If only this dwarf would now leave...

"Sorry for the trouble, Thirus" Jade tells the dwarf. "I'm probably also keeping you from your duties, ain't I? Twice sorry, in that case..."

She takes a position directly in front of the door, to ensure she'll see Marzo as soon as he comes back. Meanwhile, she tries to hear what's going on inside, if at all possible.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Estimating Marzo will be gone for at least a while Jade grabs her pepperbox and unloads it, to remove the soaked black powder. She then reloads it with dry black powder from one of her powder horns and puts the bullets back in.

If Therin hasn't buggered off, which is very likely, Jade smiles at him. "Neat thing, huh? Just sucks when it gets wet..."

She moves the pepperbox back under her cloak, but holds it in her hand.

I hope I don't have to use it...

All the paper cartridges on my bandoleer are wet and thus useless till they dry up... The big disadvantage of firearms.

I am feeling merciful...

The dwarf sits on a nearby stone and says, "It is not your fault Marzo is worrywart. I'm sure things will be fine." He watches Jade's guns with interest adding, "I have heard about them of course, there are a few in the city, but never one up close. Do you make the powder yourself?"

As he says this a pile of crates suddenly fall onto the dock, and a cask of anchoies spills out, adding a scent of oil and fish to the sea air. Thirus curses and jumps up, saying "Damn idiots. Sorry, Jill, but have to take care of this." he runs down the little dock, swearing in Dwarven and Common, trying to sort out the disaster.

Jade nods at Thirus. "When I can, I do. It saves me money."

Jade feels tremendous relief when the dwarf runs off. This may just be the only chance she'll get.

As quick as she can Jade slips into the prison and closes the sturdy door behind her, hoping Thirus will just assume Marzo let her in when he sees the closed door.

No idea what the interior's like, but if the first part's just a single hallway without doors:

Jade moves down the hallway. If there's anyone but Marzo she'll just nod at the person and move on, figuring it'll draw the least attention to her if she pretends she's supposed to be here.

And you spit on the GM's mercy. Fine. So you slipped into the big set of open doors? They are too big for you to close without making a huge scene not to mention all the prisoners moving cargo standing in the way.

Based on what you explained on Skype, here's what I'd rather do:

Jade nods at Thirus. "When I can, I do. It saves me money."

Jade feels tremendous relief when the dwarf runs off. This may just be the only chance she'll get.

As quick as she can Jade walks to the water's edge, in the other direction Thirus went. She slips her newly loaded pepperbox into one of her handy haversack's dimensional pockets and shuts it tightly, to prevent water from getting in.

I assume the manufacturers of those haversacks keep in mind that it'd be bad if entire dimensional spaces fill with water while you don't intend them to... xD

Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Jade's attempt to quietly sit down and slip into the water while no one's looking fails dramatically. She loses her balance when she tries to sit down, and falls into the water with a big splash. Once in the water Jade starts swimming off to shore as fast as she can. She stays underwater for about a minute before quickly taking a breath of new air and heading back under, hoping the water will provide cover versus anyone looking for and shooting at her.

Jade's bellyflop into the water stuns her for a moment but she quickly recovers.

She makes off for the bank. Glancing back she sees men and women (and Thirus) at the shore pointing and shouting. Ropes are thrown in the water where she landed. They obviously think she fell in and is probably drowning.

It does distract from Jade though and she makes the bank, using some rotting wharves as cover, just fine.

F Human Fighter (Gunslinger)/4 (HP 32 | AC 14 | Str -1 | Dex +3 | Con +1 | Int +0 | Wis +2 | Cha +2 | Init:+3] | Speed 30)

Cursing under her own breath, Jade gets ashore. "Dang it! I was just starting to dry up!"

Jade takes her pepperbox from her bag and puts it back in her bandolier, then takes a brief moment to clear her mind.

'Kay, next course of action...

She figures she'll head to the Irespan itself now, to view the top portion of the Osprey Pillar and to find out if there's another entrance there. Not that an entrance there would mean she can get anywhere in the Pillar, considering the different sections are run by different groups and may therefor not connect, but it'd be good to at least know if it exists.

Heading into Dockway, Jade starts walking toward the foot of the Irespan. Meanwhile she decides that the very next thing she'll do after scouting the top of the prison, is finding a place to dry her clothes and sleep.
