Phil's PFS Game (Inactive)

An amusing series of mishaps both deadly and enlightening that our Pathfinder Society members shall stumble through.

Herein shall be contained divers comments on our forthcoming game.

Guys, just a reminder that discussion exists for completely out of character posts.

Also, we can direct message one another for secret plots to sabotage the odd-man out.

Phil, when posting as an NPC, can you maybe do an [ooc] with the NPC name at the bottom of each post? That way we can easy scroll back and find past posts in which that person spoke. That or create an alias for each NPC, complete with Avatar... but that seems a bit excessive. Thanks!

Sounds good - I'll definitely find a way like that to flag such posts.

Also, wifi is down in my apt, so I'm going to wait for Mexus to post before responding to all questions and posting for Alahazra tomorrow.

Phil, if there comes a point in which you need us to make any roll, not just for Perception, I am comfortable with you making it in order to keep things moving along. A good example would be a Knowledge check.

Male Human Lawyer 8/Adult 1

I agree. I trust Phil's gentle hands.

Oh well... Handle Animal was worth a shot. I had a great roll for it too! It would have been awesome had I been able to pull it off.

I know. For a second I completely imagined both dogs skidding to a stop, sitting, and staring up at you, tongues lolling. Ah well!

I should probably post this verbatim from the module:

Quote:

Much of this adventure takes place in a mire during unfavorable weather conditions. GMs should be familiar with the features of Marsh Terrain, its dangers and how it effects movement, as described in DMG. The effects of two new weather conditions are listed below. All movement is considered to be over rough terrain due to the wet, swampy conditions.

Drizzle: Drizzle reduces visibility ranges by 1/4, resulting in a –2 penalty on Spot and Search checks. Ranged weapon attacks and Listen checks are at a –2 penalty. In addition, drizzle has a 50% chance of extinguishing any unprotected flames.

Quick explanation of how Mexus' Darkness spell is working:

From the spell description: This spell causes an object to radiate darkness out to a 20-foot radius. This darkness causes the illumination level in the area to drop one step, from bright light to normal light, from normal light to dim light, or from dim light to darkness.

Given the rain, I'm ruling it's not bright light, but normal light:

Normal light functions just like bright light, but characters with light sensitivity and light blindness do not take penalties. Areas of normal light include underneath a forest canopy during the day, within 20 feet of a torch, and inside the area of a light spell.

Mexus' spell has thus reduced the ambient light to dim light, which equals the lighting at night under a full moon. Creatures within this area have concealment (20% miss chance in combat).

Gotta love level 1. One or two arrows is all it takes.

Pretty brutal. This is turning out to be a really intense fight.

I'm going to allow a brief conversation to take place as everybody seems to be holding their actions as they decide what to do. No more than a sentence or two each!

Silver Crusade

Human Fighter (Tactician) 1 | HP: 10/11 | AC: 18 (12 T, 16 F), CMD: 16 | F: 3, R: 2, W: 0 | Percep +0 | Conditions: none | Tall and strong, sober-faced, white and gold linens, chain shirt, longsword, heavy wooden shield

Is the archer at 30 or 60 feet?

If 30, then Mexus missed his last turn and would have cast Grease.
On his next turn, he would have fired an Acid Dart.

I get the feeling we are 60 feet away, though, in which case it doesn't seem that we have any means of ranged attack at that distance. We will advance 30 feet, column formation led by Honus. Honus will be Total Defense, Mexus will fire a Dart, Fahim will lob a grenade.

Quote:
Peering from around the tree, Honus can now see two hounds racing up the slope toward their group. They'll be upon you in a matter of seconds. Standing perhaps sixty feet away are two guards, their longbows drawn, hands going over their shoulders to fetch their next arrows.

I think Jeff threw his bomb without realizing the distance. I'm asking him if he wants to instead have gotten to his feet so the party can advance as a column. His rising to his feet will be a move action, leaving him with only one move action left.

By the rules of the module, this is rough terrain, so his one move action will only allow you to move 15 feet. Next round you can all move another 15 feet, and be within range to make ranged attacks.

Jeff says he'll keep his throw due to his impaired Wisdom.

Thus Honus, Mexus, and Alahazra can move up 30 feet with a double move and be in position for Mexus to acid dart next round, leaving Fahim behind to double move next round to catch up and start throwing bombs the round thereafter.

Or you guys can hang back this round to double move next round all together, to start attacking the round following that.

Alahazra and Mexus are looking to Honus to decide.

We'll wait, using Total Defense while advancing and not attacking.

OK. Everybody is at +4 AC, moving forward 15 feet/round as Total Defense as a Standard Action.

Silver Crusade

Human Fighter (Tactician) 1 | HP: 10/11 | AC: 18 (12 T, 16 F), CMD: 16 | F: 3, R: 2, W: 0 | Percep +0 | Conditions: none | Tall and strong, sober-faced, white and gold linens, chain shirt, longsword, heavy wooden shield

There seems to be some confusion. We are 45 feet away at the top of the round. Total defense gives us +4, at the cost of a standard action. We need to be at 30 feet to make ranged attacks. Movement is 50% because of terrain. We move 15 feet forward as a move action for each of us, putting us at the necessary 30 foot distance. Honus uses total defense. Mexus casts a spell. Fahim makes a ranged attack. Alahazra heals or uses Total defense or something different if you so choose.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant everybody moved with Total D. Got it.

You couldn't have just gone with it? Fine! What's funny is that I almost went with the salt idea, but figured that burning them off seemed more dramatic :P

*grin* It's actually written into the module. You came so close! Still, style points.

How is this designed for level 1 characters?!

I'm running it on the level 1 - 2 challenge version.

Phil- Can you please add a bit of a stat block to Alahazra's profile. I'd like to keep tabs on HP and Conditions as we progress. Thanks.

Sorry for the disappearance. Got insanely busy over the last couple days. Nice work picking up the ball and running with it, and other sports related analogies.

Welcome back!

Guards! You're up. Let's keep this combat rolling.

Yeah, sorry about that, this has been a hectic week and a busy weekend. Posting now!

A couple things regarding the latest post by Mexus:

1) I don't think a catwalk exists, so Mexus is still potentially in harm's way.

2) Won't the new grease spell just spread the fire?

There is a catwalk on the east side of the main gallery. Steps lead up to it, and on the Roll20 map you can see the barrels partially covered by it.

I'm going to rule that each round there's a 50% chance the Grease catches fire for as long as it's there. I'm also going to rather arbitrarily rule that every 6 rounds the fire spreads 5 feet in every direction. This is round 1 of 6.

Mexus grins as his dagger bites into Flaggo's flesh, and he whispers just loud enough for Flaggo to hear,

"I'm going to carve my name into you, so you won't forget it again ..."

Nice!!

Damn. Slow on the draw. Nice post by Fahim, Jeff.

You don't have to change your post since it was so nicely written, Jon, but just as an FYI everybody healed 4 hp over the course of the night and day spent healing.

FYI - I thought only standard equipment was available between sessions. Now that Bryan has told me that potions are available as well, I've added some Cure Light Wounds potions to my equipment list. It's something I would have picked up had I known earlier. Unfortunately, I had no way of knowing how beneficial some Endure Elements potions would have been, otherwise I would have gotten some of those as well.

Honus would make his purchase known to the group at some point before venturing out, in case something terrible happens and he is not able to drink one himself or administer one to someone else.

Hey! What gives?

I'm waiting for everybody to agree on a course of action. At the moment it looks like the group wants Zai to head into town alone, but I've yet to see him agree to that plan.

What happened to not waiting on one person? Let's move this along. We've lost a little momentum, but we're still good!

Well, yeah, not waiting on one person in general, but if said person is going to be infiltrating the town all by themselves, I kind of need them to sign off on that. All we need is Zai to agree to this plan of action, and we're off to the races. Or disagree. Or whatever. But some kind of post would be good.

I didn't even know this thing existed! Thanks for the update, Jon! :P
