Not that it matters this combat, but Mareq's Init is +7. I think Lecate also has the mythic Init bump of +3.

A11d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
A21d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
H1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
As they burn and get pounded with arrows both die.
Then you hear bones cracking and see skeletons rising.
Also, in the smoke of the fireball you notice a hound, gazing at Motaz, and its gaze seem to rip him apart. 5d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 1, 2) = 9slashing damage, FORT DC16 negates.
ooc: @Mareck, my apologes, will adjust, if you see any other mistakes, please let me know
Motaz then rips the hound apart and you have no problems downing three normal skeletons.
ooc: I guess we are playing APL3-4 as only Motaz will be lvl6
You notice that the columns are weakened in this area, leaving them sturdy enough to climb, yet poorly anchored and easily toppled.
Tracks lead into the temple from the east and continue to the west.
Motaz spots a worn-out leather strap hanging from the mouth of one akata. The strap is attached to Nefti’s belt pouch, which you can
extract with ease. Hours spent in the akata’s stomach has destroyed most of the contents, but several parts of a journal are still intact and legible. The entries include poetry and music composed by Nefti, as well as mundane day-to-day observations. The last several pages record
Nefti’s complaints about the Aspis Consortium’s lack of appreciation for his accomplishments. A folded sheet of paper wedged in the journal bears the title “Potential Partners” and names the Pathfinder Society among other well-known organizations.
You also find a +1 mythic bane dagger, a vial containing one handful of dust of disjunction, and a sheet of beaten gold. The sheet bears an inscription in Aklo.
There is a buried door at the end of this passage, and you determine that Kafar’s tracks stop about 15 feet from the buried doorway before disappearing.
ooc: I hope it's fine but I don't grind through 3 normal skeletons

Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Whether it is from the power of the Ruby Mage or his own inherent constitution, Motaz resists the hound's attack.
Motaz pulls another alchemist's fire from his bag of holding and uses the legendary magic ability that the Ruby Sage has granted him to cast scorching ray from memory as an 8th level caster to send two rays of fire racing toward the hound. He uses the alchemist's fire as a focus to improve his accuracy. If the hound is back down the halls somewhat, Motaz takes a step toward it (not to within threat range, though).
First Shot
First Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 1 = 15 (includes the +1 for the alchemical focus) +1 if the hound is within 30' before or after the step.
Damage on First Ranged Touch Attack: 4d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 5) + 1 = 13 fire (including black powder damage) +1 if the hound is within 30'.
Second Shot
Second Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 1 = 26 (includes the +1 for the alchemical focus) +1 if the hound is within 30' before or after the step.
Damage on First Ranged Touch Attack: 4d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 3) + 1 = 16 fire (including black powder damage) +1 if the hound is within 30'.
"Thank you, Ruby Sage!" he calls out.
If the hound survived that, Motaz casts snowball at it.
Snowball Shot
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 +1 if the hound is within 30' before or after the step.
Damage on First Ranged Touch Attack: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 4, 2) = 19 cold +1 if the hound is within 30'.
If miss chances are necessary for any of the shots due to the illumination level, here they are. Low is a miss.
First Shot: 1d100 ⇒ 39
Second Shot: 1d100 ⇒ 44
Third Shot: 1d100 ⇒ 45
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
Examining the items, Motaz takes the vial of dust. "This is a thrown weapon, with which I have some talent. I suggest I carry it for now. Who is good with a dagger? Who can read Aklo? We could use the powers the Ruby Mage has given us to decipher it if need be."
While the party figures out what to do with the dagger and the sheet of beaten gold, Motaz examines the cracks in the floor he has seen, taking his time to look for traps, signs of passage, or more loot.
Perception: 20 + 5 + 16 = 41 +1 for a trap (Motaz already had a +5 competence bonus built into his base bonus from goggles of minute seeing, so the elixir of vision only increases his bonus by 5, rather than 10)
Farg |
Farg looks over to Motaz and nods with approval.
And I thought I kick ass!
So how can you get mythic abilities in PFS?
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
It's a one-shot thing for this adventure from the chronicle for the previous adventure.
Mareq Bolthune |
I don't speak Aklo. Does anybody?
I could take the dagger, though Husarq may be better. Perhaps Elliott could take it, as Husarq currently wields the legendary efreeti great blade, al-Saif.
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
"Pathfinders. It looks like Kafar went this way," Motaz says, pointing at the spot where the tracks end at the cracks in the floor. "I have a scroll of dimension door that could get three of us down there immediately, which is probably how he got down there. However, unless someone else has another scroll, we are going to need another way to follow the thief. Does anyone have a weapon that could cut or bash a way through the floor?"
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
Motaz pulls out a scroll of comprehend languages. If no one speaks Aklo or has another way to read the gold sheet, Motaz will use the scroll to decipher it. If someone else does have a way, Motaz puts the scroll back.
Farg |
Awesome...save yourself the scroll. Farg knows comprehend language.
Farg examines the Aklo script. Being the experienced tomb robber he is he knows a spell for just such an occasion. The tiefling speaks a few arcane words and begins to recite the meaning of the words in the common tongue.
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
"We can worry about rituals under the open sky once we're out under it again. Right now we've got to figure out how to follow Kafar down into the lower passage to get the Sages' jewels back. Unless someone has another idea, we need to dig our way through; my dimension door can only take me and 2 others. Mareq, is Husarq's sword up to the task? Or can someone else cut stone with a weapon?"
Mareq Bolthune |
I can dismiss Husarq back into his lamp, if we need to minimize numbers. However, I will be unable to call him forth again immediately if we are faced with battle on the other side. What about calling the Sapphire Sage? He has always been adept at teleportation.
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
"There is clearly a tunnel beneath this one. The Sapphire Sage said he would contact us, but it could be hours before he does, and I have no way to contact him earlier. Nefti and Kafar certainly went this way. I suggest we proceed before the trail grows even colder. Why not force our way through? Surely with the power of the Ruby Sage, Husarq's blade can carve a passage. If the Sapphire Sage contacts us while Husarq works, we can always change plans and ask the Sage for help."
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
Motaz draws forth his wand of clairaudience/clairvoyance and calls forth a censor in the passage below the cracks. Once the censor forms, Motaz examines that passage for evidence that Kafar did indeed find a way to go from the one passage to the other, and a mechanism for opening a doorway, if there is one.
Perception Roll Taking 20 to Search: 20 + 16 + 5 = 41 +1 for traps
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
Hardness Rules Stone is usually hardness 8 and 15 hp per inch. After we get the clairvoyance results, we may have an idea of how thick the floor is and how doable it is. Otherwise, short of someone else having dimension door too or extra-dimensional spaces large enough to carry party members, I don't see a way to follow them.
Farg |
Farg will read Aklo out loud to everyone so feel free to make a check. Also Farg will now cast Heroism on self for 40 minutes. Knowledge Planes 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Farg recites the scriptures but fails to make sense of them.
Mareq Bolthune |
Man, are you trying to bring the denizens of the Dark Tapestry down upon us? Leave be, at least until we have recovered the jewels! One adventure at a time.
;-)
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
There are no trpas in the area, and you think, that you could break through in a few rounds (hp 20, hardness 8, break DC 33)
Does Motaz see any signs through the sensor to indicate that Kafar actually went that way? Motaz doesn't want to wreck the place, which presumably is the Sanctum that the Sapphire Sage will want to restore, unless it's really necessary!
Lecate |
"I think we break through the cracks in the floor. It's the fastest and most direct route after our quarry."
"Mareck, I think I can widen the cracks with my heavy mace. However I believe your...um, the...um, I mean...,Husarq could accomplish the task much faster with his two handed weapon."
"Please hurry, time is of the essence."
Lecate |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Lecate thinks about it and decides to proceed on his own, trusting in Desna to compensate for the possible uncomfortable landing when he breaks through the cracks in the floor.
"By the luck, grace and might of Desa!"
Lecate kisses the hilt of his heavy mace and swings away!
The entire time Lecate is aware he will cause a small cave-in into th passage below. Cognizant of that fact he is ready to spring back when the floor/ceiling gives way.

You drop down, and are insaide the tunnel. A system of tunnels runs under the temple, cutting through the mountains. These dark, 10-foot-wide round passages extend throughout the region, allowing the creature that created them to travel throughout the Pillars of the Sun. Spots along the rough walls show signs of chemical reactions between the rock and some unknown substance.
Lecate |
Lecate is not sure what to make of these tunnels, but will attempt to aid someone else in a knowledge check.
Lecate will cast guidance on that person (+1 on skill check), and he will attempt to assist. If he is successful on an assist he grants a +3 bonus rather than a +2 bonus
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
So a +1 on knowledge nature and + 4 on survival check
and of course Lecate will cast guidance as many times as needed for arcana checks or any other checks
Mareq Bolthune |
Mareq closely examines the walls. Hmmm...
Kn(arcana): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 + 1 = 13
Surge Option 1: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Surge Option 2: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
12+7=20!
"Look at these tunnels. They were made by death worms, I think. I thought death worms were just a myth," says Mareq, without any irony at all.
Mythic surge added to this roll.
Mareq Bolthune |
"Husarq, remain close to me, says Mareq, somewhat nervously, looking about at the tunnels. Mareq pulls out his steel rod and renews the eldritch theurgies which protect both he and Husarq.

"Does anyone see any signs whether Kafar went this way?"
With Lecate's aid, Elliot should be able to make the survival check above. Does that help us figure out which way to go?"
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
Motaz looks to see if he can find signs of the recent passage of Kafar and whether a death worm may have come this way recently. Before doing so, he casts guidance on himself.
Survival: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 1 = 25
"Gentlemen, it appears that both Nefti and Kafar came down here. Nefti seems to have survived his encounter with the beasts above after all! Yes, Elliot, I agree, their track reappear there," Motaz says, pointing, "and lead that way," he says, pointing again. "I don't see any recent signs of death worms. Let us hurry after the thieves!"
Motaz hustles down the tunnel after the thieves, motioning urgently for Elliot and the other Pathfinders to follow.
Elliot's post and my post crossed. I've edited mine to support his.
Sutekh Amun |
sorry for being quiet
Both Sutekh and Serket follow the group, Sutekh relying on his friend's tremmor sense to warn him of anything getting too close
Nature: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
Nice, thanks Motaz :)
You're quite welcome, Elliot!
Lecate |
Lecate glaces around warily, smiles to himself and hurries after the party.
"May Desna bless us that we are lucky enough NOT to find out what a deathworm looks like."
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
Motaz will be in the front rank looking for traps by taking 10. He has the 2nd highest AC. Husarq looks like he has the highest. Maybe have him in front, too?
"I seem to have the most experience with tunnel work. I can take point and look for traps, if you would like. Ambassador, could you send Husarq up with me?"
Motaz's Search for Traps: 10 + 17 + 5 = 32
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
"Sutekh, would Serket benefit from a mage armor? I'd be happy to cast one on him."
Assuming that Sutekh agrees, Motaz casts the spell and gently reaches out to convey it to the giant scorpion. "There, there, nice scorpion. No one should be able to hurt you now."
Mareq Bolthune |
"Of course, son of Dakhil. THRALL! Attend Lord Motaz in the second rank. Do not interfere with his careful searching!" calls Mareq to his efreeti bodyguard.
Mareq prefers the rear, where he can better cast supporting sorceries.
Motaz ibn Dakhil al-Lythertidi |
Motaz slows down to be next to Husarq. He doesn't want to get ahead of the fearsome efreet's protection!
Husarq |
"As you command, oh my master," mumbles Husarq as he draws al-Saif. The blade, slipping from over his shoulder, is huge and wickedly curved. The pommel gleams and in the weak light the blade glistens an eerie red, as if wet with the blood of a hundred marid, a thousand shaitan and ten thousand djinn.
When the dull and defeated efreeti grasps the ancient blade his hunched back straightens and a feral, diabolical glint comes to his burning red eyes, as if reminded of the glory, power and maniacal deeds that were once his.
"Yesss," Husarq says to nobody in particular, his face split in a grin, his sharp teeth bared.
Farg |
Farg can take up the rear guard. Sorry for bring so quiet but I'm on holidays so don't expect too much from me this week.
Sutekh Amun |
he has armor on. So i dont think MA will stack. :( if i do miss combat. I will cast magic fang on serket and it will then procede to help in melee. Provoke if needed. He has mobility
Sutekh smiles but waves the offer.
"My friend already has armor, but i appreciate the offer"
