If I'd like to open the locker of one of Dusky's "mates" and stick his stuff inside, would that require the fortitude save for an additional action? Also, could I roll a knowledge check on what the words on that paper might mean?
Edit: Will wait to see if anyone notices/does anything before deciding next move.
GM Piratey Steve |
I suppose, since you're right at the lockers, I can count this as one instance of Sneak. You'll have to roll new Stealth and Disable Device checks, though.
Maybe the others could get you a bonus on Stealth by keeping Jack and Crimson distracted (though this assumes one of them actually sees what you're up to in the first place).
I don't see any Knowledge skill that would handle this; Linguistics is probably the closest skill for this situation. Why not mention the note's contents to the other PCs? Five brains are better than one. :)

A wonderous idea. Though, since i am stealthed, hopefully it doesn't end up being like this. Is it safe to say that if they notice, I give some sort of signal that they should either a)look away, or b)keep talking to Crimson and Jack?
GM Piratey Steve |
Yea see what happens when you mess around with slavers and pirates? I tell ya, good clean living is it's own reward. ;)
Heh! Can you imagine a stinky dwarf in such close quarters as a pirate ship? And Aggghhh almost certainly would've ended up as cook's mate: Would've been a close contest between him and Fishguts as to who smelled worse.
Glad to see you still around the boards. Fair winds at your back (and foul ones out your backside)!

That works.
I believe that if Aghon (or someone) is willing to give up their night time action they could provide longterm care (DC 15 heal check, could take 10) and I'd recover 2 Con instead of 1...
That works, too. Though the description says Long Term Care takes at least a day, I've nerfed the rum ration's effect so that 1 point of Con damage wears off after a night's sleep. So LTC should double the healing in the same amount of time.

In the description it specifies that it requires 8 hours of light activity to provide long-term care; I was guessing/assuming that our day was roughly split into 8 hours for day activities, 8 hours for night activities, and 8 hours of sleep. I apologize if I was off on that. Thank you for allowing that either way.
Aghon |
You can tend as many as six patients at a time. You need a few items and supplies (bandages, salves, and so on) that are easy to come by in settled lands. Giving long-term care counts as light activity for the healer. You cannot give long-term care to yourself.
Would Aghon have access to these "supplies." Or could he improvise them somehow? If possible then Aghon could treat both Cog and Culder. If Aghon does this, he'll be giving up his own night of sleep? Or just his "night time activity?" If he's giving up his full night of sleep, that will mean he needs to make the DC 10 Con check or be fatigued?" Regardless, he'll do his best to make sure Culder and Cog are actively recovering from the tainted rum.
Aghon |
Just realized Treat Poison might also be an option? This one might be easier? Or not, since the poison is only a one save poison? No lingering effects or continuous saves necessary? If I can purify the drink for everyone this will be a moot point, right?

OK, gonna pull back the GM screen a bit here. The rum ration is actually treated as a drug in the adventure, meaning its effects (good and bad) are pretty much instantaneous and automatic (no saving throw). Your characters do get a saving throw to avoid becoming addicted to the stuff.
The crew (not including your PCs and the other 'new blood" (Sandara, Rosie, Conchobhar, and Crimson) are all addicts but their systems are somewhat accustomed to the rum (their penalties aren't quite as bad as what you guys might accrue).
As for purifying...yeah, that would help you guys, but since Aghon mentioned that the rum was tainted when trying to recruit Vincent to your side, word's gotten back to Scourge that you guys are aware of that fact. (On a side note, hearing that the rum is drugged might surprise certain members of the crew.)
Aghon |
Thanks for the info! Perhaps our best bet is to, quietly, during our day 3 activities, spread the word that the cap'n and his mate are trying to subdue the crew through nefarious means, rather than with leadership and loyalty?
Aghon is ready for day 3. :)
Also, who wants the vial of acid? Jordan? Maybe you could use it to melt that lock with the DC that is way too high???!!!
Jarvis X. Crookrows |
Oooh, sneaky +3 Vial of Lock Melting!
I like the idea of spreading discontent and such throughout daily activities.
Jordan Bain |
i think that would be a great idea. If you want to wake me up, I'll take care of it as my sneaky second nighttime activity.
Also, any thoughts on the note that says Rem Dis +150gp? The best I can come up with is "Remedy Distribution," which would mean someone knows the rum is tainted.

That's better than anything I came up with. I'll have Aghon wake up early and slip Jordan the vial while everyone is still asleep. He'll need the bonus to stealth. :) Strike that, I'll retcon that Aghon gave it immediately back to Jordan after smelling the acrid smell.

This little puzzle is one Aghon should be able to come up with. (Peek under the spoiler, notice which skill I made a check for, then do some more thinking.) ;)
Aghon Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Culder 'the Captain' Hargraves |
my only thought on 'rem dis' was that it could be short for 'remember this'... the +150g could make it an IOU, or some kind of bill (like: remember I did this, now you owe me another 150g...)
Aghon |
Remove Disease? That would be 375 gp though, not 150...
Thanks for the spoiler! :)
GM Piratey Steve |
Is the DC 25 locker obviously different, or would I need to roll a perception? And would the acid completely destroy the lock, or just lower the DC?
Yeah, the better lock is fairly obvious at anything beyond a casual glance. The acid would destroy the lock.

Sorry about the extended silence. I hit a wall yesterday and called it an early day. Today I'm trying to update and consolidate my notes so I'll have everything together in one (or two) place(s), instead of half a dozen.
Should have a post up in 2-3 hours.

GM you don't ever need to apologize for a few days of silence. :) Like I said before, you let us all know this would be a casual campaign, and so far, not joking, this is the most regularly posted campaign I am in!!! :) So much fun. Thanks for all the work you put in for us. I am having a great time playing.

Agreed

Cool. :)
Well, here I am again to ask how bored you guys are getting with things. There will be a few extracurricular activities and events here and there to break up the tedium of "Roll Daily Job Action, Roll Nighttime Action." But there's still a fair amount of same ol', same ol' coming in the future.
So far, I've been relying on random dice rolls for a lot of things, thus why Culder and Jarvis both got the same (pretty much unresponsive and useless) co-workers two days running. If the dice keep this up, I'll switch things up some.
Feel free to let me know how you're enjoying (or not enjoying) the adventure and I'll make changes where I can.
P.S. - Been using some of my spare time to work on a good old-fashioned dungeon crawl for use in the future. It's likely a good ways off, though, but I thought it might be a fun change-of-pace.
Aghon |
I'm thinking Evening 3 is going to bring a fair bit of fun, since Aghon is going to need a good distraction in order to purify everybody's rum ration.
Also, speaking of spells Aghon is casting, I wanted to ask about the possibility of him praying for Advanced Scurvy from the Wormwood Mutiny? Seems to fit very well thematically. Imagine the awesomeness that could happen if Aghon casts this before coming up, and then discharges onto Scourge with a pat on the back... Oh the joy!
Obviously that type of aggressive spell would need approval. If it is approved, I'd have Aghon replace Dream Feast with Advanced Scurvy, since Jordan's meals have seemed to be more than adequate for sustenance purposes. ;)
Edit: Like I just got done saying, seriously enjoying this. No need to change anything for me. I'm actually enjoying the "work-a-day" life of a sailor. Roleplaying in this environment is challenging and super fun!
GM Piratey Steve |
Re: Advanced Scurvy. I'll allow it, but there'll be a chance that Scourge puts 2 and 2 together and realizes he got sick shortly after that new meat spellcaster he hates patted him on the back for some reason.
Oh, yeah--Advanced Scurvy is also an Evil spell. (Not that I think that'll stop you.) :)

Excellent food for thought. Believe it or not the evil descriptor did ping my radar, and I am still hemming and hawing about the idea. Not sure Aghon would consider using evil to stop evil, evil in itself... Oh the philosophical arguments we could have there. :) I'm not solid on whether or not Aghon will prepare it. That's one of the reasons I wanted approval first, because without approval, any possible discussion with Aghon's crewmates would have been pointless. As is, Aghon might be talking mutiny with his companions sooner rather than later. For as steely as he's been with the whippings, there is a point where every man breaks. Aghon may have just reached that point.

Correct. Sealed, dark, cramped, uncomfortable, and hot. But no one can see you. And there was no sign of the Lady Mage around before you were put in the box.

We were told we'd get our weapons back after a week, right?
Something like that, or that you'd at least get knives or daggers to help round the ship...if you proved trustworthy.
Aghon |
if you proved trustworthy.
That seems highly unlikely at this juncture. :)
Aghon |
The slow death, accelerated...
Last night I had a vision, not sure it's actually going to work, but it seems to be a lot less difficult than what I had thought of before. What if Aghon and Sandara touch two of the hostile crew members, say, Aretta and the angry dwarf, with Advanced Scurvy? Then maybe the next day, they hit two other of the hostile crew with it? So on, and so on down the line. Some will probably make their fortitude saves, but some won't, and if we can convince everyone on board that scurvy is spreading, at some point the cap'n is going to have to either pull into port for healing services, or proper food? Either that or risk a mutiny from EVERYONE, because the crew that don't know what's going on will be worried about scurvy spreading... ? Sound good? Plus that way we get a little bit of sweet, silent revenge against them what tried to scrap with us!
Edit: Also, This is a spell... :)
GM Piratey Steve |
I figure that Grok would give you the sword when she's ready to retire for the night; then you can call in the others.
Jordan Bain |
Hopefully the precautions I'm trying to take ate understandable. I do fully expect a group as impetuous as ours to do what they feel is best, especially when considering I have been wrong before, or had less than perfect judgement. :)

Probably not. I'm probably the one who screwed up. Working on it....
EDIT: @ Jordan I'll have you come in after a round or two, after you've given Fipps enough time to clear out so you won't be spotted.
Jarvis X. Crookrows |
Is the bilge area somewhere that we could easily get something with "Light" cast on it down there for them? Or is it not worth the effort given that they are already in combat timing?
