Peril at King's Landing

Game Master Nimon

The King is holding a tournament for his new Hand Ned Stark. You are invited to represent your house in the tournament.

1 to 50 of 87 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

... So dress warm my little bird and fly north. If winter is coming I want to know how much wood I shall need for the fire. Fire is just the thing to keep wolves at bay, and the winter always brings the wolves. Don't fly too close or you will test their fangs. Now go with the seven I have much to prepare.

With a slight nod the young common looking man leaves the room. As he walks out another one walks in almost identical in apperance.

So you have finally come back, well?

The young man stutters before finally responding She got away from Valar's men, but she is being guarded by Lord Mors of Castle Black. The young man hangs his head in shame.

Valar is a clumsy brute, but they don't listen do they? Very well little bird, fly to the rookery and fetch me a raven.

The young man leaves and closes the door behind him. Lord Varys stares out the window and muses to himself Pity, I had high hopes for that one,but one can not tolerate faliure on such a scale. No wait I can... the feint cry is heard briefly then quickly silenced. Varys turns to the door, then glances back out the window one last time.Winter is coming.I always liked Ned Stark. Pity.

I will be running a D20 version of Peril at King's Landing. There will be changes made. Characters will be 25 point buy. I want players to creat a minor house for their character that is loyal to House Baratheon. Magic is very scarce. Classes allowed will be Alchemist,Bard, Cavalier, Cleric, Fighter, Ranger, and Rogue. More specifics to come.

Dark Archive

Max Wealth, Human only, check campaign tab for specifics. Max HP first lvl.

Oh really. . . I just may well be jumping on this. Create my own house you say? Hmm. OK I feel a ranger in my future. More info on the marrow.

Why d20? This would be way cooler if you were using the actual SIF rpg.

Not familiar, but love what I see... Count me in!

I am interested as well. House Wylde is very loyal to House Baratheon, I will play a son of Lord Casper Wylde (unless I should play a female might be more interesting). I will draft someone up to submit today.

Dark Archive

I am doing D20 because I do not think many people are familar with D6 and I am not as familar with d6 as I am D20. Hopefully it will still be enjoyable. Glad to see I already have some interested. I hope to get started by Monday. I will take six people.

How would the demagogue archetype sound to you? In brief, it gives up magical inspiration for being a primadonna and strutin' their stuff around their favored community with bonuses to Bluff and Intimidate, and you can incite riots and stuff on later levels.

*finger pyramid of evil*

Sweet. I'll revisit this when I have enough time.

Dark Archive

Demagogue from UM is fine. Will probably work well in the setting.

Dark Archive

Please look at the other tabs for more information, Campaign tab has the alternate rules ect.

I am thinking a Cavalier under the Order of the Sword (so sworn to Rober Baratheon directly). The character will be about 32 and earned his Knighthood during the Greyjoy Rebellion.

I will have his full stats and full background ready later on this evening when I get home from work. Are we starting at level 1?

After reading the discussion thread, I'm guessing this is a d20 game based on the HBO series. :) Awesome!

Is it possible to play a Silent Sister? I'm thinking of a Chirurgeon Alchemist (or some other healer type). Although the bombing thing might be a little strange for a Silent Sister. Hmmm, thinking about this some more.

Edit: Oh wait, Clerics are allowed too... Hmm... Merciful Healer.

Salamae is her first name. I was thinking Therandis for her House name, but not sure if that fits. It sounds nice.

Salamae Therandis.
Silent Sister of the Seven. (The best part about that character is that I don't have to bold anything... lol.)

House Therandis
Therandis has served both the Houses of Baratheon and Targaryen, though they are truly indebted only to the Seven, and have been allied with the Faith of the Seven since shortly after the Landing. They have been more involved in maintaining the rites and rituals of the church than in any political squabbles of the ruling houses. In name, however, Therandis serves House Baratheon. It has worked closely with the Masters to maintain the church's healing knowledge, and for everything else, silent prayer and meditation on the Seven is a strong need. While the men of House Therandis do become clerics in their own right, with all the sacred knowledge necessary to perform the rites of the Seven, many women join the Silent Sisters, to better serve their faith and the Seven Kingdoms.

Traits:
Caretaker
Universal healing is one of the known traits of the Therandis House. It is well known that they turn no one in need away, and answer every effort and request to heal with their knowledge and abilities, usually without the offer of coin, political advantage, or favors.
World Traveler
Although the Therandis family is not literally a World Traveler, serving at King's Landing over the Summers has granted them more than some knowledge of the Seven Kingdoms and beyond. There are few cultures that can phase a member of the Therandis household due to this cosmopolitan approach.

I will create the character a little later tonight.

Dark Archive

Feedback on House Therandis:
Looks good, don't forget mechanical advantages for the traits and to increase 1 attribute by 1 point, possibly Cha or Will by your house definition so far.

Yes, I will try to maintain the feel of the show in this game, with elements of Pathfinder and the Videogame RPG.

Oh, yeah, the mechanical advantages stay the same, and since the Silent Sister will be mostly silent, probably taking the Sense Motive bonus from the World Traveler trait.

Wise and Careful
House Therandis would probably have +1 Wisdom (if allowable).
The members of House Therandis have learned not to look too closely into the affairs of others, or if inquiries must be made, it is best to make them discretely. They also have learned to be patient and careful in regards to political situations, for while kings and kingdoms can be volatile and short-lived, the Seven are Eternal.

Mechanics question: do we receive the +2 human racial bonus to any ability score, and can it be stacked with the House bonus?

Dark Archive

Salamae Therandis wrote:

Yes, you get everything you normaly would for being human, and You can stack the +1 if you so desire.

Dark Archive

I'm so in on this ^^ is there still room for another player?

Everyone creates their own house or we all belong to one?

Cavalier or fighter (roughrider) this is quite an interesting choice.

Will dot and create something when I'm back at home and think of something interesting for my character ^^

Here is Ser Weyland Wylde. Still under construction I will finish him by Sunday.

Strategy in Arms
The lineage of House Weyland is long and storied in its production of excellent warriors. Any man with arms can swing a sword but knowing when to swing the sword is more important than how hard you can swing it. Fights are won with strength of mind not strength of muscle.
(+1 Bonus to Wisdom)

House Wylde Traits
Indomitable Faith - House Wylde reveres the Warrior as their patron deity. The house takes pride in its battle prowess and it is in light of the warrior that the men of the household have been so blessed thus of the Seven he is revered above all.

Fencer - A house whose reputation is built by its battle prowess must ensure that the tradition continues. From a young age the men (and even the women) are trained with all manner of blades. Children of House Wylde use daggers as their play toys. There is no doubt that this tradition the Warrior approves of thus will the house ever remain in his favor.

I think it would be difficult to maintain the feel of the show with Pathfinder magic in the game. The system has way too much magic to capture game of thrones the way it is RAW.

I'll stop pissing on your game now. I just really think it would be much better to run this game using SiF since that's exactly what the system is intended for. It even has all the cool rules for building noble families, and the actual mechanics look pretty straightforward but still gritty. It seems like a tragedy to do it with the Pathfinder system. Anyhow do what you wish, have fun!

Curiosity. Will my character have to be a member of the house, or can she be affiliated with it? Like a player known to serve X house? I have a bard built for 20pt buy that I have an alias for that I think will serve with some editing (for demagogue, and setting) but I would prefer to be from the Free Cities.

Or I could make a whole new alias. I have so many, I am just wondering what our options are.

Dark Archive

If I can make my own House:

House Athelstan

Spoiler:

Heraldry: White stallion on a blue field
Motto: Gallant we Stride

Located along the coast in the Shipbreaker Bay between Bronzegate and Storm's End, House Athelstan rules from the Whitevale. A young house founded during Robert's Rebellion and loyal to House Baratheon, they have rose to some prominence among the lesser Houses of the Stormlands. House Athelstan looks to the heart of the Stormlands for guidance and fuels the income through trade and defenses by sea.

Chivalrous
Members of House Athelstan pride themselves of their heritage and chivalry, striving to be examples of what a knight should be.
Benefit: +1 trait bonus on Diplomacy and Knowledge (History) checks. Choose Diplomacy or Knowledge (History) and that skill will always be a class skill for you.

Cavalry Rider
Every member of House Athelstan are thought to learn how to ride by the time they are old enough to walk, as it is tradition of the house to be masters of the saddle.
Benefit: +2 trait bonus on Ride checks.

Aspiring Paragon
House Athelstan has a long tradition of service and chivalry, and their strict upbringing and training has given them an aura of nobility about them.
Benefit: +1 trait bonus on Charisma.

I do have the rulebook for ASoIaF:GT and it is neat.

I do believe the cleric is to much as clergy in Westeros has no magic whatsoever, they did have at one time a standing army, but no magic.

Bards are just rogues with good performance, in this game rogues should be very popular (archetypes) for npcs, like stewards, thugs, diplomats, assassins, bards, maester, alchemist, etc...

Alchemist are still very magical, there is already a feat that lets non-magic caster classes with craft to create magic items, so you can still have NPC class or rogue and he can be an alchemist.

That's just my 2 cents.

Dark Archive

@P.H. DungeonNot sure why you would post in a recruitment thread to complain about a game you have no intrest in. Plenty of others. I don't post on your Conan game and talk crap about it.

@Derios All differant minor houses that are loyal(at least in name) to house Baratheon.

@Sir Weyland - Looks decent

Dark Archive

@Hu5tru- You can be from the free cities if you would like, plenty of reason for a bard to attend a tournament. Affiliation is a good route, or just come up with some traits for the area you are from. If you want 1 status per lvl though I would go with at least a house affiliation, with out that you are percieved to have less pull(though maybe you can make that a trait and that is what you are going for)

Dark Archive

@Derios- In the Show the Priestess/Witch of the lord of light has some magical skill. In the Cyanide game the Priest of Rhylor can manipulate fire. I do not know the novels, and I was clear about that in the discussion thread what I am basing the game off of. The concept of the game/like the movie, is that you are going to be on the cusp of magic returning to the world with the birth of Dragons.

Dark Archive

I do not mind magic it was just my opinion if you wanted to really take all magic classes out.

Have you read E6 rules it's an interesting way to keep the low-magic thing and gritty feeling of games in d20.

I think Fighter (roughrider) is a great option, but I do want a free strong mount from the cavalier >< lol I'm torn as for what class. It will be a mounted knight warrior that is for sure.

Dark Archive

I have read D6, did you read when I posted that? If you like it so much put the time and effort into creating your own game.

Dark Archive

E6 is not D6 it's still d20 I suppose it's confusing.

E6 stands for Epic 6, that means that the maximum level player can get is 6. It is just suggested thing people play with when they want low magic and gritty games, by no means I was talking about the d6 system or anything of the sort.

How is House Athelstan? ^^

Well I would totally have been interested in it if you were using SiF, which is why I had mentioned it. I've been really hoping someone would try to run a game using that system since it's one I've been really wanting a chance to play, but not so sure that I could handle dming. Anyhow like I said, I really don't mean to piss on it, and I would hardly say I was talking crap on it. I really do hope it works out well. Have fun gaming.

I thought perhaps you hit E by mistake. I do not want to take magic out of the world, I want to create a game close to the material I have already mentioned. I think I have enough people already who seem less concerned with specifics and just want to have a good game so perhaps find another one.

I'll whip something up I have a few ideas.

It could be a Pathfinder game based on Game of Thrones, it doesn't necessarily have to be a Pathfinderized Game of Thrones.

Dark Archive

Alright those were just suggesting, vow out then and happy gaming all!

Deiros wrote:

Maybe I was a bit harsh, but after my exchange with PMS Dungeon I was a bit hot. A recruitment thread is not somewhere to attempt a system/edition war. For those of you that do DM, you know the time and effort put into it. Realize that who ever is running the game, already has it all planed out and ready, and is not likly to just scrap his idea. You either want to play what you see, or you do not. If you do not, then just move on, I do not need to hear xy and z of why you do not want too.

Those of you that have submitted so far I think have decent concepts and it will work well with what I have planed. I will make final checks on Monday for who is ready, and post more from there. I have posted in the Gameplay section just a little taste, please do not post in that tab yet. Thanks.

Well, I am having a difficult time with feats.

Should I take Silent Spell to maintain my oath of silence, or would "spells/prayers" be permitted under the oath?

Ho to the Camp! Rider coming in. Sitting on a matted horse is a man, clad in dark molted greys and browns, with a sword upon his saddle seeming to have a slight curve to it. Laying across his saddle is a horn longbow, well made and well maintained, but also very well used, strung with an arrow laying lazily across the string. Care to share your fire with a stranger? I'll swap fresh quail and duck for a toss of ale and a spot near the fire, and aye mayhaps a tale or two?

edited to notify that my sheet, back story and house are all on my page.

Good Question. Because of the world I will say you do not have to take Silent Spell and can just mentaly pray your spells. Magic is so rare, highly unlikly anyone but another Priest will get a chance to spellcraft check you if it came down to that. Oath of silence is already a trade off for this I think since it is going to be hard for you to intitiate intrigues, but you can still listen, and write maybe(not sure how far their silent oath goes, some allow writting some don't not familar enough the wiki doesnt mention lack of writting.)

It will be challenging, but I welcome challenges most of the time. Some people say that a generalist wizard is underpowered, so I played a generalist wizard to prove them wrong... lol. =P.

I have completed his background. I believe the last things left are spending money on equipment and fleshing out his mount. Let me know if there is anything I am missing Nimon. Looking forward to starting the campaign

Hmmm, well, it seems by canon, the Silent Sisters are devoted to the Stranger (the god of Death), and are used more for funeral arrangements than healing, though I thought some were helping healers after one of Rob Stark's battles in Season 2. ???

Ah well, maybe I have taken a Vow of Silence anyway, in preparation to become a Silent Sister in my old age. :)

Dark Archive

@Salamae The Sisters in season 2 didnt seem to have a silence vow, at least not the one he hooked up with. Play it how ever you wish Salamae.

@Ser Weyland Wylde- Looks good, do not forget status(should be 1) and Intrigue Defense, Composure. The campaign tab has these in detail.

I don't think the one he hooked up with is a Septon... :)

Ok, I also want to provide a bit more background detail on the other males in his family. I will finish up the profile tomorrow, not feeling too well today.

Dark Archive

I'm still around and creating a character just wanted to know if piecemail armor is allowed.

Will have the basics of the character done as a Fighter Roughrider or a Cavalier since it would be the most common amongst knights ;)

Piecemail armor I will allow since I am doing performance combat and duels, I will add one caveat to that though. If you are wearing an incomplete set, you are more vulnerable to critical hits, attacker gets +2 to confirm criticals, and the modifier is increased by 1 to a max of x4. I will repost this in campaign tab.

Updated my sheet to swap out a feat.

Question - How do I calculate my Intrigue Defense? 10+1+?+1+?=???

Do we have a rundown of the characters thus far? I'd love to toss my hat into the ring! But, have been trying to get my head around the concept. I think I'm good now!

So, who do we have... who don't we need (hopefully, the answer isn't "you").

Between Screen names and aliases, it gets confusing... sorry.

Was thinking of a Bard/Dawnflower Dervish... from the house that most closely resides near "spice-lands" or a bedouin region. The house's culture has blended with the "natives".

He's "european" but dresses like a saracen or with heavy saracen accents. Scimitar, flowing vestements, etc...

Thanks!

Dark Archive

Intrigue Defense is base 10+Status(Which is 1 per lvl, things accomplished effect this-like wining a tournament)+Int Bonus+ RANKS only of Diplomacy/Sense Motive/Knowledge Nobility/Knowledge Local and only if they are class skills.
