The narrow staircase ends in a short corridor leading to a large chamber, the center of which is dominated by a pool of stagnant water. An oily sheen covers most of pool, causing it to reflect a multitude of colors onto the walls and ceiling. The only light in this room emanates from a faintly glowing orb attached to the ceiling, and an acrid stench wafts heavily in the air. There is a simple wooden door in the eastern wall, and a set of ornate stone double doors to the south flanked by a pair of sandstone statues.

DC 15 Perception check:

You notice that the oily sheen atop the water seems to move a bit, despite the water being perfectly calm

Calistan, according to your sessions record you played your first two games as Grand Lodge, then your next two as Sczarni. Have you faction changed twice? Also, if you played Merchants Wake as Sczarni, which your profile records it as, you wouldn't have access to the boon that allows you to take Trade Prince ignoring Fame. I'm just trying to get it clear.

A return to the cool woodlands of the River Kingdoms provides a welcome relief to Torche after Venture Captain Valsin's summons to the sands of Osirion. Really? He couldn't have left me her to explore further to begin with? Ah, at least I'll have a chance now to delve deeper into these old ruins. I really must write back to Tahonikepsu. Perhaps she will not be as hasty as Valsin to send me all over the Inner Sea. Lost in his thoughts and staring idly at the orb Torche notices nothing about the water. He sniffs the air, "Rather foul air down here. Unfortunately I didn't prepare a spell to provide a more pleasing scent today. Those ornate doors look like an intriguing place to begin."

Revvy, do you expect us to take action based on our rolls when you provide a DC for checks? And is it respectful to wait for everyone to attempt the check before acting on it? Very new to the PbP arena, but lots of Pathfinder experience. I hope none of you mind, but I have stolen a lot of structure ideas from your characters. Please don't hesitate to let me know if I do something "wrong".

Scarab Sages

@Hiro. That will depend on the spoiler a bit, so it will mostly be case by case. Most cases it will be for knowledge rolls and perception to find hidden items in the room or for appraise of items, in which case you can take action if you roll high enough. In the case of hidden creatures it could be more those who will make the DC will not be surprised, but feel free to act on what you see behind the spoiler..if I think you are taking it to far or other people have a chance to do something in between I will let you know (and alter some actions taken so far if needed). The main reason I use the spoiler is so that the first person who makes it can warn the others/act on it ..as opposed to me asking everyone to roll an perception check (and loose a day RL for the results) or to roll for everyone (which might mean I forgot about certain modifiers and stuff so I tend to not do that if I can avoid it). It's not a perfect system..but hey, you have to do something to make a pbp move along at a decent pace.

Hiro pulls the sling off his belt as he scoops up a few chucks of debris from the ground. Deftly he sets a piece in the sling and with a quick twirl the tiny projectile sails towards the ooze.

Crossbow loaded, Torche takes aim at the ooze. "We need to get Marcel out of there! It's chewing right through him. I think these crossbow bolts will affect it." He squeezes the trigger feeling the snap of the string reverberate through the rough wooden stock. Suddenly Marcel shifts and Torche has to jerk the crossbow away at the last second sending the bolt clattering against the far wall.
Attack 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 - 4 = 18
Damage 1d8 ⇒ 4
Ignore the 18, it was really a 3. Double post.

Samuel swings down at the ooze with his light mace, less worried about it than his longsword.

Light Mace: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Aviendha strikes at the ooze, chopping off a large chunk of it.

Hiro is able to hit the ooze with but it bounces off it's jelly like structure as soon as it hits

Torche shoots a crossbow bolt into the ooze, right next to Marcel's arm...but luckily the ooze absorbs most of the impact leaving Marcel untouched...but the crossbow bolt at least.

Samuel swings his light mace at the ooze bashing away at it.

Marcel struggles and twists but doesn't manage to get out from inside the ooze that's trying to digest him ..but at least he manages to protect most of his equipment from dissolving

"Maybe you can wiggle out of it's grip instead of trying to force it to let you go!" Calls Hiro in hopes of helping Marcèl.

Calistan thinks that this is a losing battle for Marcel.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Calistan yanks of Marcel while healing him, but he's not strong enough to do anything.

What did the ooze do for its successful grapple last turn? Is Marcel pinned? Looks like you just applied constrict damage.

Scarab Sages

It just sustained the grapple, doing damage (all though I'll admit I forgot about pinning)...I was debating to release, and try to make a new attack and if hit go for a new grab attempt and do some more constrict damage..but that had the chance to drop Marcel into negative hps and possible kill him if both would have hit ..so I decided to be nice and just hold on to him and try to digest him..seemed to be the more ooze like thing to do at the time

Calistan heals Marcel again.

The ooze continues to cover Marcel and seep acid all over Marcel and his equipment.

To sustain grapple: 1d20 + 10 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 5 = 30 damage Marcel: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 and acid damage Marcel: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Scarab Sages

It seems that constrict damage is added each time the grapple is successfully sustained and that Marcel should have been taking more damage,as I've only been doing the natural attack damage that it deals when it sustains the grapple. It's my oversight so for the last round I'm not adding more damage, but for this round;

Extra constrict damage Marcel: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 and Acid damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Ouch, by my count that put Marcèl on -7hp.

Seeing Marcèl squirming in pain and the ooze gradually crushing the life from him, Samuel swings down again with his mace, his face a tapestry of grim determination.
