Grim tries to fight off the mumbling mumbo-jumbo.

Trying to ignore the disturbing sensation, the Andoran swings forward with his enchanted longsword, noticing its reduced effect.

@Aviendha and Samuel: I'm pretty sure you have to make DC 15 Will Saves against the fascinate effect each turn you aren't fascinated until you successfully make a save. Abilities like this only let you be immune once you have saved, not once you've been affected and had it broken.

![]() |

Does it not 'fascinate' then attack, hence breaking the fascinate? Otherwise we can just get stuck in a cycle of it attacks, fascinate, we miss turn, it attacks, fascinates, we miss turn etc.

![]() |

I think that due to the attack we are safe. Once broken it's over for good. That's due to the condition fascinated specifically.

Being attacked breaks the fascination, but otherwise there's a chance you can get fascinated again until you save
@Aviendha, being translucent is also a good indication they are incorporeal
Aviendha slices through one of the smoke creatures in front of her after enchanting her weapon to better deal with such targets
Marcel and Torche just stand there, fascinated by the mumbling they hear.
Calistan not being able to hear any of it
It doesn't technically say that being deaf ignores this fascination (sonic vibrations straight to the brain?)..but sounds reasonably to me
just focuses his ability to send out a burst of positive energy
Will save Green: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Will save Red: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
which seems to wash half through the smoke creatures
Grimdoc swings his magical hammer over Samuels head and smashes it onto one of the smoke creatures..creating a drift inside what makes up his body and some of the smoke is carried away.
Samuel follows up the attack with a swing of his longsword...getting a similair..but less effective result
One of the creatures tries to retrieve another memory from Samuels head
to hit touch AC Samuel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Wisdom damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 (DC 15 will save negates)
while the other tries again for Aviendha
to hit touch AC Aviendha: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
but fails to hit
They both then take a 5ft step through the wall next to them.
You can attack them through the closed door, but only through the bars..so they get +8 cover. And only the person in front of the door can attack. Unless you get the door open.
init
You guys (Marcel and Torche still fascinated)
Smoke creatures
Damage Green: 16
Damage Red: 13 + 0 temp hp

if Grimdoc can swing again, he will. Otherwise, if he cannot reach, he will cast knock on the door.
" hey, snap out of it you two! These things are eating your brains if ya let them. "
+1 hammer, pa, reach: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 - 2 = 24 damage : 1d12 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22

@Revvy: Sorry. Just assumed the muttering meant I had to hear it.
@Samuel/Aviendha: Per the rules of abilities that fascinate like Harpy's Captivating Song, you are only safe from the ability once you make a save, not once you a broken out of the ability, thus you have to keep making saves until 1) You are dead or 2) You make a save. Thus, fascinate-locking is entirely possible. Whether or not that is intended, who knows. But that is how the abilities read. Take Hypnotic Pattern (the spell) even if you attack people in it and it breaks, they have to make a save against fascination because they are still in the area. It doesn't make you immune to the fascination ability. In the Bard Fascinate ability, it specifically states that it can't be used in combat, but no other Fascinate ability is worded that way.
@Aviendha: I don't see anything in the Fascinate ability that means that you can't be affected by the ability again. The allip's babble is ongoing and you haven't gained immunity to the ability, thus you would have to make the save, I would think.
Note: This is all from my reading of the abilities, the effects and the forums, as well as discussion with other GMs. Does it suck? Hell yes. Is there any rules to the contrary? Not as far as I or anyone I know has found.
Calistan moves to the far side of the chamber to be able to see the undead creatures. Does that give me LOS on both of them through the bars?

Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Managing to fight off the fascination, Samuel flinches as the creature further invades his mind.
Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Mumbling as his mind begins to break, the soldier retreats.
"Sorry... friends. Mind... snapping."
Taking a withdraw action as another hit like that will put me in a coma.

2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
There's some other wording used in how these creatures use fascinate ..since it's specially calls out that approaching doesn't break the fascination..while the fascinate condition allows for another save when you are approached by something hostile...it mentions that getting attacked will end the effect. It doesn't state that you can't be effected again even though that's how I read it when I saw it. It does state that once you save you can't be effected again
@Grimdoc..you can swing at it..just pretty difficult to swing your hammer through some bars in a door, casting knock would make it possible for others to also get in the room and attack. but since you said if you can swing you would..going with that
Grimdoc moves forward and swings his hammer through the bars hitting the creature on the other side, connecting soundly and it starts to dissipate into the air
@Calistan, LOS yes
Calistan moves toward a more tactical location
Aviendha steps forward and tries to open one of the doors to find out she can't get it open..it's locked.
Can't attack when you take a 5ft step..need to move 10 feet for that..and you can't move that far and try to open the door and still attack
Marcel and Torche stand there listening to something that captures their attention
Samuel retreats to keep his sanity.
The remaining smoke creature moves through the wall next to Avienda and tries to extract some fresh memories from her grey matter.
To hit touch AC Aviendha: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
but it fails to enter Aviendha's mind

Aviendha with a swipe of her ghost touch scimitar is able to slice through what remained of the creature and it dissipates in a puff of smoke.
After searching around you don't find anything of value in these rooms.
Then after making sure the last set of doors in this area are not trapped you open them to reveal two flights of stairs which curl around this room, descending downward into Thornkeep
That concludes this level of Thornkeep, if you can post your dayjobs/PFS reporting info in the discussion tab I'll get chronicles out hopefully this weekend.
