To most, Mount Shibotai's devastating eruption was a footnote in Tian history. To the shadow-bound wayangs who settled the jagged crater in Minata, the volcano was the reason they inhabited Golarion at all. In their de facto capitol Inahiyi, the wayangs host an annual festival to commemorate the catastrophe that brought them into this world and forced them to ally with their neighbors against a common threat. On especially auspicious anniversaries, the wayangs invite foreigners to contribute to the ceremony, and the Pathfinder Society has negotiated the privilege of having its agents observe the sacred ceremonies as these outside participants. This is no mere anthropological opportunity, though, and the PCs may be all that stands between their world and an unspeakable evil.

I will probably just give it another day, in case any other new players show interest.

Grand Lodge

Eric do you mind if I 'borrow' your amazing geography info sheet you just posted?

I think it would be a fantastic edition to my games.

Grand Lodge

Of course I do not mind, especially since it is not "mine"!
I just collect info' online (mainly from Pathfinder Wiki - just use it and 'search' up on the top right) or from the PFS booklets...

This is my first PFS PbP so trying to figure out how best to share such info', but when I play tabletop I email a .pdf to people with info' like this and images (flags of the countries, maps...) a few days before the game.

Basically I started putting together a leaflet for each game, with the info' I'd read, since I do not know that much about the whole world (it's easy to play the scenarios and get some info' on specific locations but not the big picture).

Your doing great!! adding your own flare like that is awesome. I have no doubt you will be great. I just finished my very first GM table of PbP and it was exhilarating. I feel like I can give more over the boards then in person. Don't have to feel like I'm holding the game back by looking at the Scenario or book.

p.s. If you run a game anything like you ran Quig, that is the game to be in. I admit I used the Quig pregen at a local game and used the cheek pouches just the same as you. I had everyone dying... from laughter.

Scarab Sages

Well, I don't know if I qualify as new anymore, what with 3 PFS games under my belt, but just in case...

Grand Lodge

Good day all!

Here is my current feeling:
• in order to not leave any behind--
• because if I take people in the sign up order the party will not be super balanced level-wise (Wizard 4 & Paladin 3 beside a Fighter 1)--
--I would run two tables.

We would go with the following set-up:

Table 1 - Tier 1-2
1. Tolinath "Red" Bronzebeard - Barbarian 1
2. Wylka Forth - Cleric 1
3. Agon Abstruss - Fighter 1
4. Claudia Darkmantle - Rogue 1
5. Cazlin Summerweft - Fighter 1

Table 2 - Tier 1-2 w/o 4 player adjustment
1. Apollyanna Lapin Sukino - Paladin 3
2. Zephyr the White - Transmuter 4
3. Graff Leogil - Cleric 3
4. Khellek the historian - Bard 2

Questions::

• is anybody uncomfortable with this?
• Table 1 players: is anyone not okay w. running a 5 party team?
(you have several non-brand new characters, thus the party has Cure Light Wound wands)
• Table 2 players: is anyone not okay w. running a 4 party team in Tier 1-2?
(your APL is : 3+4+3+2 = 12, div. by 4 = 3, thus, by the PFS Guide, for 4 PC group, you play low [Tier 1-2 here] but w/o the 4 person adj' ; so it'd be lower tier but not too "easy")

I will ask if any new player (or level 1) CORE wishes to join ;
And see what answers you have for my questions.
(today & tomorrow I am flying back home anyhow)

If the plan is okay, I will set things up by the week-end
(getting the two threads set up etc.)
So we can aim to do introductions etc. during the week-end or early next week for those busy this week-end, and get started early next week.

Thanks for your patience.

Dark Archive

That works well for me. Poly and Graff end up with out of tier gold no matter what, it is only Zephyr who really misses out so he is probably the the one who needs to be okay with it.

Envoy's Alliance

Good day, I'm interested in joining the campaign? how do I sign up?

Liberty's Edge

Graff is fine. Graff will hide behind the paladin and Wizard to play peek a boo.

Grand Lodge

Hello Marjim Marc Arafiles!
Which CORE level 1 character do you wish to play?

Silver Crusade

I'm fine assuming we stay at 4 party members, though I don't have any qualms about a party of 6 playing high tier either.

Envoy's Alliance

Hi there. I want to try out the monk class if that's ok. BTW, what does CORE mean?

I see you still have an opening for a newbie. I would love to participate as a Druid if there’s still a spot.

ETA: I’m new to this board and to Pathfinder so I may need extra help. I’ve read most of the Core rules but haven’t played a complete game.

Grand Lodge

@Marjim Marc Arafiles: are you new to PFS and/or to PbP?
CORE campaign is a variant of PFS, in which the characters are made with only the Core Rulebook and a couple additional booklets.
Check my profile (by clicking on my "name" above this post, for example), and the "What is PFS CORE CAMPAIGN:" entry for some explanations and links.
To see if you are interested in this or if you prefer a Standard character.

@Ciara Talos: hello!
We'll see how it goes w. Marjim re a spot left or not.
However, in the meantime, is there some help that can be given already?

Envoy's Alliance

I'm fairly new to both. I've only played a starfinder game through PbP and I've played a couple of PFS via roll20 and discord. I'm still trying to learn the rules, especially tactical rules.

Grand Lodge

Okay!
Well, check out the info' on CORE, and see if it interests you to set up such a character to play and level up in time.

Envoy's Alliance

I like it. Very simple. I had a hard time keeping up with my previous games because there were a lot of things going on. How should I sign up for this game?

Silver Crusade

Marjim Marc Arafiles wrote:

You can read the announcement here and the CORE FAQ here if you need more information.

BTW, I'm OK with the 2 table set up. If you want, I can bring in my level 4 cleric instead so we have 2 parties of 5.

Sovereign Court

Sounds good to me!

Sovereign Court

Table 1 is fine with me.

Grand Lodge

I'm Good to go too. "You have my Axe!"

Marjim Marc Arafiles wrote:

Create a CORE character and stat it up in an alias, just like any other PFS character. Then post using that alias as above.

Or at least, that's what I did. I've never played PFS so I'm still uncertain about some stuff.

PS. Table setup seems fine.

Scarab Sages

The table 1 plan seems good to me, no concerns here.

Thanks for deciding to do two tables!

Hope I did this right, not sure what the faction card option is.

Claudia The faction card option is referring to these here. Some of the Faction Cards have 'Achievements' that require you to forgo your down time/Day Job roll to complete them.

The option just means that if I am unable to accomplish one of the other 'achievements' on my faction journal card then I wish to forgo my downtime for something else.

for example: If i am unable to "Resolve an encounter with an organization led by genies, elemental forces, or those who revere them."

then I will forgo my day job to "Forgo your Downtime to finalize a report to the Pathfinder Society. Doing so requires a successful DC 15 Intelligence, Wisdom, or Profession (scribe) check."

New Player Marjim Marc Arafiles
Character Mao Asaka (Monk 1)
PFS # 259680-4
Faction Scarab Sages
Day Job N/A

Grand Lodge

So, thanks for all speaking up!
And, since Marjim Marc Arafiles is new and posted first, I will give him the priority over you, Ciara Talos... sorry.
Which would give this:

Setup number 1:

Table 1 - Tier 1-2
1. Tolinath "Red" Bronzebeard - Barbarian 1
2. Wylka Forth - Cleric 1
3. Agon Abstruss - Fighter 1
4. Claudia Darkmantle - Rogue 1
5. Cazlin Summerweft - Fighter 1
6. Mao Asaka - Monk 1

Table 2 - Tier 1-2 w/o 4 player adjustment
1. Apollyanna Lapin Sukino - Paladin 3
2. Zephyr the White - Transmuter 4
3. Graff Leogil - Cleric 3
4. Khellek the historian - Bard 2

However (to keep on picking our brains, sorry!)--
• since "Lapin" said she'd be okay w. a party of 6 playing high tier
• and Agon Abstruss offered to change tables (morphing into a Cleric lvl 4)
BTW: thanks Agon Abstruss, I'll add the CORE FAQ to the list on my DM page
--We could have the following set up:

Setup number 2:

Table 1 - Tier 1-2
1. Tolinath "Red" Bronzebeard - Barbarian 1
2. Wylka Forth - Cleric 1
3. Ciara Talos - Druid 1
4. Claudia Darkmantle - Rogue 1
5. Cazlin Summerweft - Fighter 1
6. Mao Asaka - Monk 1

Table 2 - Tier 4-5 w. 4 player adjustment
1. Apollyanna Lapin Sukino - Paladin 3
2. Zephyr the White - Transmuter 4
3. Graff Leogil - Cleric 3
4. Khellek the historian - Bard 2
5. Agon Abstruss - Cleric 4

This would have us not leaving Ciara Talos behind.

And Table 2 would:

• be playing in higher Tier (4-5), but w. 4 player adjustment
The APL being 3+4+3+2+4=16 div. by 5 = 3.2 = 3 (since it is a Season 4+ that means you "must play the higher tier with the four-character adjustments found throughout the scenario")
• thus we could see if a 6th wishes to join Table 2
Whoever joins as the 6th cannot push the APL past 3.5 since you are at 16 now and 5 is the max', so 16+5 = 21 div. by 5 = 3.5 ; thus you get to choose to round up to 4 (and play Tier 4-5 w/o adjustment, or round down to 3 (and play same Tier w. adjustment).
Without any spoilers (I am not taking the scenario into account at all) my feeling is you're better off rounding down w. a lvl 2 in the group

So, in a nutshell
QUESTION to Table 2 peeps and Agon Abstruss:
- go for current set up w. 4 people in lower tier?
- go for the riches and the rewards and the fears of playing higher tier (w. adj')?
and I ask to see if anyone wants to join your group (lvls 3 to 4 I'd say - 5 could do too, just do not want to have Khellek more than 2 lvls below I'd say)

Go to the top of the page and there will be a 'My Pathfinder Society' link. Click on that and then you will have to enter your login information. That will take you to the register page. Make sure to click the 'Register a New Pathfinder Core Roleplaying Character' and just follow the instructions from there.

Silver Crusade

This is Agon Abstruss's level 4 PC. Let's go for setup 2. I'm fine with the 5 of us playing the high tier with a 4-player adjustment.

Dark Archive

You still looking for 1 more? If so I have either a Paladin (lvl 2), a Cleric (lvl 2), or a Sorc/Pal (lvl 3).

Sovereign Court

I would also like to go for setup 2. This wouldn't benefit the level 3s much, and would benefit Khellek a bit more but put him in more danger, so I'd rather listen to their opinions.

Grand Lodge

Hello Tyranius!
Welcome.
If we go for the 2nd choice (Setup number 2) I'd say the Sorc/Pal lvl 3 would be the best fit (level-wise).

Liberty's Edge

I'm of the YOLO variety. I'm fine with any setup, just make sure the rest are comfortable with it.

Silver Crusade

I have this little 1.1 lvl illusionist gnome that likes to have fun and be cute while making illusions.

Grand Lodge

Hello Lukian, but sorry, we have two full tables already, so no more spots left it seems...

So, if no one has anything to say against the setup, we'll go for:

Table 1 - Tier 1-2
1. Tolinath "Red" Bronzebeard - Barbarian 1
2. Wylka Forth - Cleric 1
3. "Ciara Talos" - Druid 1
4. Claudia Darkmantle - Rogue 1
5. Cazlin Summerweft - Fighter 1
6. Mao Asaka - Monk 1

Table 2 - Tier 4-5 w. 4 player adjustment
1. Apollyanna Lapin Sukino - Paladin 3
2. Zephyr the White - Transmuter 4
3. Graff Leogil - Cleric 3
4. Khellek the historian - Bard 2
5. Evarice Blue - Cleric 4
6. "Tyranius" - Sorc/Pal 3

Clerics of Shelyn in both parties!

Mao Asaka & Ciara Talos: how can we help with setting up your characters?

I will set up the two tables tomorrow and get all ready so we can start presentations and intro' Friday or this week-end at latest.

Dark Archive

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That sounds great. Thanks for running this. I look forward to reading the intro post.

Grand Lodge

I looked at some tutorials in setting up the stats found below the name. I also posted in the gameplay section just to see if it works. What else do we need to indicate in our stats?

Grand Lodge

@Mao: I will get back to helping you in a bit (a day or 2), maybe others will help in the meantime. I'll be setting the game up in the meantime, sorry (but have no fear we'll get you up and flurrying in no time!).

Grand Lodge

So... can:
1. Apollyanna Lapin Sukino - Paladin 3
2. Zephyr the White - Transmuter 4
3. Graff Leogil - Cleric 3
4. Khellek the historian - Bard 2
5. Evarice Blue - Cleric 4
6. "Tyranius" - Sorc/Pal 3
all migrate to Table 2 - Tier 4-5
--This way please!--
and follow the instructions!
(giving info' there and on the 2nd slide...)
Thanks!

Grand Lodge

As for:
Table 1 - Tier 1-2
1. Tolinath "Red" Bronzebeard - Barbarian 1
2. Wylka Forth - Cleric 1
3. "Ciara Talos" - Druid 1
4. Claudia Darkmantle - Rogue 1
5. Cazlin Summerweft - Fighter 1
6. Mao Asaka - Monk 1
...just stay where you are! xD
