Reggie bumps his knee into Rowdy's rib, the motion looking hard but necessary for the wolf to feel it through his armor. Without hesitation, the wolf moves 5' over to align himself and his best buddy in front of the raging barbarian.

"Velthas, see if you can take down that dwarf! You're the only one close enough! Kala, try to knock that potion away from the elf!" he calls out. He hates splitting the group's focus, feeling it's much better to pile onto one target until it falls, but the cleric is going to be a problem, and the elf is going to leave himself exposed to all manner of attacks when he tries...well basically anything other than laying there, so the best bets are to stop the enemy healing and try to take down their heavy hitter.

"Let's see what you got, big man," he says, staring down the barbarian.

Rowdy hears the change in Reggie's tone and knows that his best buddy is serious about hurting this guy in front of him. He grows more frisky, and on guard against all threats.

Rowdy gets a +1 dodge bonus while threatening the target of Reggie's Challenge.

He snaps at the target, trying to bring him down.

Nox's cloak hands the healing potion to Zoltan as she weaves a spell. Her mouth opens wide as if to scream, but no sound comes out, at least not any normal sound. However, it causes all the animals in the group to have their hair stand on end.

Reggie sees two of their opponents incapacitated in quick succession. He knows that the last remaining foe can likely get them back on their feet, if necessary but he is by no means bloodthirsty. He edges Rowdy closer to her, ready to strike should she make a false move but wields his words instead of his weapons.

"Put down your weapon and surrender and, on my honor, I will see to it that you are treated fairly," he offers.

Stinky scampers between Velthas's legs again, settling into the small space between the man and the wall. He then snaps at the dwarven cleric's nearest leg, wondering if she tastes different than the big human barbarian.

Kala and Stinky are a great team ... as her hammer hits the dwarf in the flank, Stinky bites into her abdomen and you see the shock on her face as the crimson liquid drips down ... and she drops to the ground.


After examining the fallen you notice that the elf and the human are all still alive but will surely die if they are not stabilized. The dwarf will surely awaken soon.

During the examination you find two symbols that all of the attackers were carrying with them.

Kala drops the Animal Focus from herself as she pulls a coil of rope out of her pack. She ties up the three attackers, searching them as she does so because she doesn't want them to cut her rope with a hidden knife or something. After she's satisfied with her work, she casts Cure Light Wounds on the human so he won't die.

Searching each of them to see if they have anything to cut the rope (probably not, but she would check anyway)

Letting his blade droop before sullenly sheathing it Velthas moves forward to help search the fallen foes.

"Velthas carries great shame, his blade did not shine today." Velthas says with a look of great shame writ across his face.

The first symbol is the holy symbol of Norgorber. He is the only evil god amongst the Ascended. He is known as a Taldan deity of thievery and assassination, as well as a keeper of secrets. He is called the 'Reaper of Reputation' by some, but has more insidious titles among his other worshipers. He remains an enigma to most, and his true motives are unknown. Many of his own followers remain ignorant of his plans and designs.

DC 15 Kn(local) or Kn(religion):

The symbol belongs to an organization called the Harbingers, which was founded around the Book of One Thousand Whispers and that are dedicated to bringing about the promised Age of Glory by making the prophecies from the ancient Book of 1,000 Whispers come true.

The Book of 1,000 Whispers is a book of prophecy used as a guidebook by the Harbingers of Fate in Absalom. This book predicts events happening between the years of 4604 AR and 4714 AR. Unfortunately for the Harbingers, many of the remaining prophecies make no sense.

DC 15 Linguistics:

The note details that the Harbingers want to attempt to make the recorded prophecies within The Book of 1,000 Whispers come true so as to set the world right after the death of the god Aroden. The group has come to the Shrine of the Failed in search of unattended items that fulfill more of the book’s strange conditions, but they have heard of the investigation of the Pathfinders and as their mission is in direct violation of the Harbingers’ mission they are to attack the Pathfindes and try to kill them to ensure the Pathfinders don’t interfere with the foretold omens.


After surviving the ambush, you are able to leave the Shrine of the Failed after some explanations to the city guard who take the three Harbingers into custody.

The crowd gathered around the Starstone Cathedral has disbanded, and many of the locals are still horrified following Sir Reinhart’s attempt to vault the chasm on horseback, which ended with a fall into oblivion.

You deliver Eylysia’s cache to the Grand Lodge. Drandle Dreng personally thanks you for your successful investigation, indicating his interest in your future careers as Pathfinders.

He speaks with each one of you and should you not have completed your confirmation, the venture-captain promises to speak with Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine to have the process expedited.

The Wounded Wisp staff is still flabbergasted about your discovery and has received some funding from the society with which they intend to repair the disgrace in their cellar.

A little female gnome comes in again and says with a sigh "So sorry, but Dreng is not able to join you again! But Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin will be here shortly! You guys have become popular?! Hee?" she says with a little bit of jealousy in her voice.

After a brief glance around to make sure no one is looking, Kala surreptitiously begins tracing the ABCs on her thigh, only 80% sure that she's remembering all of them, much less forming them correctly. It'll take a long time and lots of effort, but she is bound and determined to learn to read and write so that she won't feel useless anymore.

Reggie is less than comfortable with his newfound fame. Any time anyone mentions it or gives him extra attention for his actions, he blushes and downplays what he's done.

He IS quite pleased to accept that free first drink at the Wisp, though, and he visits quite often.

Nox is surprised that everything turned out so well. You never can tell. Anyway, she's happy to have made the acquaintance of new allies in the Pathfinder Society.


After about ten minutes Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin's enters the room. He looks at you with a keen interest.

"Your recent investigations and recovery of agent Eylysia’s papers have already yielded results. Under my direction, a team of scholars has tracked down the long-retired Society ciphers the gnome used and translated many of her entries. Although many of these records present valuable leads, one is especially timely and exciting.

Several months ago, the Pathfinder Society recovered an incomplete relic called the Sky Key. Its missing components disappeared millennia ago, carried by dwarven refugees to the far corners of Avistan and beyond, and the Society has struggled to follow these faint trails to piece the potent device back together. It appears Eylysia may have found one of the pieces centuries ago!

She writes of a visit to Tar Kuata in Osirion, where she not only met with the Iroran devotees there, but also the curious order of dwarven monks known as the Ouat. According to her journals, some of the resident dwarves’ ancestors arrived long ago from the distant north bearing a broken treasure of wire and steel. Based on additional context and several magical divinations, I have reason to believe Eylysia—and you—may have found one of the lost pieces of the Sky Key!

We need to make diplomatic contact to the Ouat which will take months. But as soon as I am contacted by Venture-Captain Norden Balentiir in Sothis to prepare for an expedition I will potentially contact you.
