"Woooo- Aaagh!" Kronas starts to cheer but is rudely interrupted by the explosion and all the screaming. He instinctively ducks, shielding his eyes from the shrapnel of exploding skeletons. By the time he looks up again, his friends have surrounded the poor greased up skeletons on the floor, "Wait, did anyone else hear that awful screaming? Oh, no..." He goes a little pale as he comes to a realisation, "I think a haunt is about to manifest!" He says with quite a bit of concern as he draws his sword and steps up to the nearest skeleton, "We really need to stop these guys quickly! Aim for the joints, they're the weakest points!" He continues to point out the best moments to strike for maximum effect.

Season of Ghosts

While Kara continues to hustle forward on her short little dwarf legs and Kronas offers sage advice and inspiration, White and Seldiir attempt to finish off the two remaining skeletons. Seldiir unfortunately misses Purple despite it being sprawled out on the ground and covered in grease. White has much better luck however and stomps Blue into a fine, crumbly powder!

Season of Ghosts

With a plan in mind to put the Gyronna hags to rest for good, the group spends several minutes carefully gathering up the bones of their skeletal foes as well as investigating the rest of the area to make sure nothing else is missed. Inside of the burned-out building that was once the Gyronnan's hideout the group discovers a small steel box that had likely been hidden underneath the floorboards before fire claimed the building. Kronas quickly determines the items within to be magical and identifies them as a Bottled Scream, a Wand of Burning Hands (CL 5th, 6 charges), and a Potion of Fly.

Once you are convinced that the ruins and surrounding area have been searched thoroughly, you turn and begin the trek back to Rosehaven. After a bit of hesitation Feather Seed takes up her mallet and follows you, weaving around and through the group as you walk, always mindful to stay within the light. Though the night is still dark, the air feels less oppressive and you even begin to hear the sounds of chirping crickets and the occasional hoot of an owl as you retrace your steps back along the river, through the pumpkin patch, and back to Bertinard's home. You see that there are no lights burning within and after a quick check, determine that the old priest seems to have kept his word on returning to the village. Eager to speak with him and share all that you have encountered in the hour or two since you last spoke, the group quickens their pace as they hurry the rest of the way back to Rosehaven.

When you make it back to the village square you can see that storytime is over and many of the village citizens are now sharing a meal by the light of their candles and lanterns. Or rather, the children are enjoying and the adults seem to be less interested in eating and more interested in keeping a watch on the perimeter of the square. Several of them watch you with curiosity and trepidation as you carefully weave your way through the crowd and a few gawp at the rattling bags you carry and at the little leshy that accompanies you (who is now practically riding along on Kronas' leg due to her shyness getting the better of her). You see Ivy standing near the edge of the square and she waves at you to get your attention before heading your way.

"You're back! Thank the Eternal Rose!" she whispers as she draws close. "Are you looking for Bertinard? He and Constable Tivareau are in the temple; I don't know what happened but she's not let him out of her sight once since he came hurrying back into town earlier. You'd best go let them know that you're back." She gazes at Seldiir for a moment, searching his face as if seeking some sort of reassurance. "You've done it, right? Put an end to whatever took poor Elm? Otherwise you'd not have come back so fast."

Kronas smiles as he scans the camera crowd for his sister. It seems like Luna has made several new friends and she is happily munching her food while laughing and joking with the children around her. Again, she is far too busy to notice the group of Pathfinders. Not wanting to cause a scene until everything is sorted properly, Kronas keeps his voice low "In the temple? Maybe Constable Tivareau is just trying to calm Bertinard down after what happened at his house..." He wonders, but looking at Ivy he adds, "Oh, but with a couple of new windows, everything will be fine... This is Feather Seed, by the way," He puts a supportive arm around the shy leshy "She's a friend of Elm's and helped us out while we were in the fields! She's a little shy though..."

Kronas lets Seldiir answer Ivy's other questions since they obviously know each other, and instead translates and points out the temple to Feather Seed, "उस खूबसूरत इमारत को देखिए? हमें पहले वहां जाना होगा और सब कुछ साफ करना होगा, लेकिन जब हम कर लेंगे, तो मैं आपको अपनी बहन के साथ पेश करना चाहता हूं। वह तुम्हें प्यार करने जा रही है, और मैं जानता हूँ कि तुम भी उसे पसंद करेंगे!"

Feather Seed's eyes light up in wonder at the sight of the festively-decorated building and she gives an eager nod. "বাহ...অনেক রং এবং ট্যালিস্ম্যান্স!" the leshy exclaims. "যে কেউ বসবাস করে সে স্মার্ট, খুব স্মার্ট - তালবিজ্ঞান খারাপ জিনিস থেকে রক্ষা করে। এটাই আমার নেকলেস পরছে," she adds, pointing at her necklace of beads and feathers. Sylvan:

"Wow...so many colors and talismans!"

"Whoever lives there is smart, very smart - talismans protect from bad things. That's why I wear my necklace!"

"But anyway, okay, let's go! I want to meet your family!"

Ivy relaxes, a smile beginning to creep across her face at the sight of the excitable plant-person. "Well if that doesn't beat all! Guess I should've known Elm would count more than just people as his friends. At any rate, go talk to Bertinard and Elise; the rest of us aren't going anywhere."
_______

Hurrying forward, Kara is the first to reach the temple and knocks softly on the door while stating her identity. The door opens and you see Constable Tivareau regarding you with an anxious expression, while Bertinard peers peevishly over her shoulder. At the sight of the group both of them immediately relax. "You see, Elise? I told you they'd make it back in one piece," Bertinard snorts. Constable Tivareau throws up her arms. "Well I'm sorry but can you blame me for being a little concerned after what you told me? Armed or not, I'd be surprised if they routinely carried around the means to deal with murdering pumpkin-creatures!" Clearly, the short time spent confined in the temple as well as the general stress of the day has worn on both lawwoman and priest's nerves a bit.

"At any rate, we're both glad to see you folks back here safe and sound...well, mostly," Bertinard continues, noting that a few of you have acquired some additional scrapes, burns, and singes in your clothing since he saw you last. "What happened out there? Did you find the ruins?"

White Feather has the bones in a sack, we think that if they would be buried at your local graveyard the spirits might find rest. But I am not a priest, so I will leave that to you" Kara says in a confident voice, reporting back was always easier than idle chatter for her.

Season of Ghosts

"The bones had animated? Gods...even worse than I had thought," Bertinard sighs, shaking his head. "At least they didn't decide to come calling on Rosehaven or myself like those pumpkin-creatures did."

He looks at each of you, voice trembling with emotion. "Thank you, all of you, for helping put to rest these old ghosts of Rosehaven's past. As for the bones...yes, yes of course. We'll have a small ceremony and then inter them in the cemetery." He chuckles weakly, wiping his hand across his eyes. "I'm such a fool. If only I'd found it in my heart to forgive those women all those years ago, none of this would have happened. Elm would still be here with us now..."

"No Bertinard, no," Constable Tivareau quickly cuts in, shaking the old man slightly by the shoulder. "Those women, well...they caused a lot of strife and even some deaths with their wiles, from what you told me. And you are, and were, only human! I can't blame you and the others for just leaving the whole site a pile of embers. It just sounds like the whole thing turned out to be, well, the perfect storm...how could you have had any idea that it could cause trouble years later? It's not your fault!"

But the evil has been subdued for now. If there is a source to it that might make it come back, perhaps you as a priest might be best to identify it and we will do what we can to put it to rest permanently.

Season of Ghosts

Lebraerio:

No question, Bertinard's emotion is genuine. As unlikely as it might seem, it really does look as though everything that's happened since your arrival in Rosehaven to speak with Armeline has just been coincidence. Insane, once-in-a-lifetime, coincidence.

Bertinard looks down at Kronas as the gnome hugs at his leg and then around at the rest of you and Constable Tivareau. For a moment he looks as if he might cry and then he quickly glances away towards one of the windows and harumphs once or twice.

"I suppose a drink after all this excitement can't hurt," he finally responds. Then with a start, he looks down to see Feather Seed hugging at his other leg and lets out a startled yelp that can be heard from outside the temple.

"What in blazes-!?"

Season of Ghosts

After making your report to Constable Tivareau and Bertinard, the remaining details - thankfully - fall right into place. Another town meeting is called, wherein Bertinard finally lays bare the sordid details behind the founding of the Mercylight Festival and shares the story of the group of strangers who braved terrors in the dark for a town and a people they'd only just met. By the time the meeting is done it seems as if the entire village of Rosehaven is lining up to shake your hands and offer their thanks to the group. Just when you finally think that perhaps you've spoken to everyone, a familiar blonde-haired, half-elven woman shuffles her way over to the group.

"Um...I know that your friend and I didn't exactly get off to the best start earlier," Armeline says as she nods at Lebraerio, "but it sounds like I owe you folks at least an apology. Rosehaven's been my home for years now and you all risked your necks for her when you could've just turned and headed back downriver after I told your man here to shove off. So...thank you."

As Armeline shifts awkwardly from foot to foot, you realize that you've still got one more thing to take care of and that now might be your best shot at convincing the former Pathfinder agent to return to the fold. But will she listen?

Kronas looks up at Armeline, rubbing the dead arm Luna gave him for leaving her with a babysitter while he went off for another adventure without her. "What was done all those years ago was done out of fear. It doesn't excuse what happened to you, but after the Venture-Captain and her servants were killed, I don't think the higher-ups wanted to risk sending anyone else to their death." He rummages in his backpack for a second and pulls out a crude bracelet he weaved out of colourful twine, and then offers it to Armeline, "The new Venture-Captain wanted us to extend a formal apology to you, but we wanted to offer an informal one too! I made this for you, and if you let Lebraerio buy you a few drinks, we can share stories too!"

Luna quickly forgets that she's angry with Kronas, mostly because she is too excited to meet Feather Seed. She has been happily asking the little Leshy hundreds of questions interspersed with an occasional hug while the crowd expressed their thanks to the group.

Armeline gazes down at the offered bracelet for a moment and then seems to reach a decision, reaching out to accept it. "Heh. I know when I'm beaten. Very well Pathfinders, I'll return with you and speak to this Eliza Petulengro. Maybe my experience can at least serve some purpose after all these years. You'll have to tell me more about her, but that can wait until later - there's a festival to finish and drinks to be had," she says, a small smile finally beginning to shine through her reserved demeanor.

The rest of the group's stay in Rosehaven is blessedly much like the first few hours after their arrival had been, with the festival continuing on for another two days and in a mostly upbeat manner in spite of Elm's death. Much eating, drinking, and merrymaking is had and at the end of the Mercylight festival a special ceremony of forgiveness is held in the local cemetery, a place of quiet among flowers that have been carefully tended to by Bertinard. The bones of the Gyronna hags are laid to rest and the ground consecrated as Feather Seed smashes an odd-looking gourd into the earth around the gravesite.

"As this year's Mercylight Festival comes to a close, we must remember that perhaps more than to our friends and loved ones, we should offer our forgiveness to those who have wronged us - no matter how grievous that wrong may have been," Bertinard offers quietly, his voice subdued. "For if we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man or woman's life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility. And even should our enemies not offer their mercy to us, it is said that forgiveness is the scent that the flower leaves on the heel that crushes it."

As the morning sun shines softly down, the villagers then turn to one another and offer each other, and themselves, forgiveness for old and new wrongs through hushed whispers, laughter, and warm tears. The flowers in the cemetery bob gently in the cool breeze, a reassurance that everything will, at long last, be well again in the village of Rosehaven.

Epilogue
_______

As you, along with Armeline, prepare to depart to catch a ride with Hugo back to Woodsedge, nearly the entire village of Rosehaven gathers to see you off. Besides Bertinard and Constable Tivareau, Ivy and Katriane as well as Felicity and Remy DuBois approach to say their goodbyes.

"Well, I got to say your arrival made for a heck of a story to tell," Ivy chuckles as she slaps Seldiiir on the back. "You're always welcome at the Silver Flute, so come on back soon and pay us a visit!" Turning to Lebraerio, she adds, "And when you do, I wanna hear how things turned out with your lady friend! I could use another good romance story for my collection."

"Ivy's right," Elise Tivareau smiles. "It's almost like the town had an old, festering wound and you folks lanced it and let out all the rot. Maybe now things can heal - even Bertinard." For his part, Bertinard simply nods in agreement. "Aye, Elise speaks the truth. You've done a lot for this town and we'll make sure it isn't ever forgotten."

Remy and Felicity both approach Kara and kneel down to hug the quiet, thoughtful dwarven woman. "We're glad we met you," Remy smiles. "It might sound really dumb but you and your friends...I don't know, I feel like you've given us hope again. Rosehaven's toughed it out through more than we ever knew, so, well..."

"If the town can do it, so can we," Felicity finishes. "We'll...we'll always miss our Martine and want her here with us, but our story isn't done yet. We'll see her again some day and until then, um...we're going to keep moving forward. And...maybe have another child, one day."

"And if it's a girl, we'll name her after you," Remy chimes in, grinning for perhaps the first time since Kara has met him.

"Goodbye!" Katriane says as she hugs Kronas and Luna. "I'm going to miss you two so much! Promise that you'll write if you can't come back to visit anytime soon, okay?" Feather Seed darts out from behind Katriane and gives the Kronglic siblings a hug as well, not wanting to be left out.

"এই সব সুন্দর মানুষ আমাকে বিশেষ করে Katriane আমাকে প্রবর্তনের জন্য আপনাকে ধন্যবাদ," she exclaims, bouncing happily from foot to foot. "আমি এখনও Elm মিস্...কিন্তু এটা সব পরে একা হতে হবে জানি না! এবং আমি মনে করি Katriane এমনকি চেষ্টা এবং আমাকে আপনার ভাষা শেখান যাচ্ছে! এটা মহান হতে হবে," Feather Seed continues, jabbering away. Before the group goes, she pulls out a small necklace of beads and feathers and offers it to Kronas. "একটি উপহার হিসাবে, এই নিতে দয়া করে! এটি আপনাকে এবং Luna ক্ষতি থেকে রক্ষা করবে!"

Sylvan:

"Thank you for introducing me to all these nice people, especially Katriane!"

"I still really miss Elm...but it's nice to know that I won't be alone after all! And I think Katriane is even going to try and teach me your language! It'll be great!"

"Please take this, as a gift! It'll protect you and Luna from harm!"

With your goodbyes said, Armeline hefts her pack and turns to the rest of you. "Well come on, we have a boat to catch, don't we? Hugo'll have a fit if we're late!" She turns and heads back down the road towards the docks and as she walks, there's a new spring in her step that wasn't there a few days before. You all turn and follow her, sad to be leaving Rosehaven but eager to report back to Venture-Captain Petulengro and see what the Pathfinder Society has in store for you next.

Kara hugs both Remy and Felicity "I will visit again, I don't know when, but you can count on seeing me again. That is a dwarven promises and you know how stubborn we can be!"

The dwarf gets out of the hug and turns towards the road, catching up with Armeline. As Bertinard said, there is a story behind everyone. I should try to learn the story of the people I meet, and not just take them by their actions.

She snaps out of her thoughts and notices she walks next to Seldiir "Say Seldiir, what is your background? Where did you live before you joined the Society?"

Seldiir gives a rueful smile, "It could have been a happier story, I suppose. If I ever get the chance, I'll definitely be back in Rosehaven. And if you're ever in Absalom, look us up. The society's pretty easy to find."

later

Seldiir gazes out into nothing, "That reminds me, I need to write to my family. I probably won't mention the burns... I grew up in Korvosa. I actually signed up as a Sable Company Marine," He produces an insignia from the pocket of his long, dark coat, "Didn't think it would go down well round here." and then pockets it quickly.

"Technically, I'm an attache to the Society. I believe one of the higher-ups has used me to repay a debt. It's okay though, being a Pathfinder is proving interesting and... instructive."

"How about you? And don't just vaguely say you're from the Five Kings Mountains. Every dwarf I ever met says they're from the Five Kings Mountains. It's not far off saying 'Golarion'." Seldiir laughs gently at his own joke.

Kara smiles at Seldiir's joke "I was born in the mountains, in Highhelm. My family are cheesemongers, they have a herd of goat and make cheese from their milk. When the call for dwarves to go to Jormurdun came a few years ago we were among the many to go. It was there that I learned more about the pathfinder society. You know that pathfinders found the citadel and made if safe again? I wanted nothing more than become a pathfinder and make Golarion a safer place for everyone. It took a while, but finally my parents gave me permission. That is when I signed up and started my training as a pathfinder."

Kara removes her waterskin from her belt and takes a swig before offering it to Seldiir "Want some?"

There's a sad look on Lebraerio's face, when Ivy mention his love interest.

I haven't seen her since the last six months, but I hope to see her again soon. Thing is, I'm still in love in her, but I'm not sure she loves me. In fact, I'm afraid to still love her, and to suffer a second time, as she left me six months ago and I won't survive another heartbreak, and I'm afraid to be wrong, to realise that I'm not as much in love with her that I was before, because she left me. Of course, I know that my heart is stubborn, and that, despite all this, as soon as I see her smile, as soon as I'll hear her voice, as soon as I'll hold her hand, I'll fall in love with her again, as if those six months were only a bad dream and I just awoke.

He sighs, with teary eyes

May I have a request? Could you pray for me so Sheylin smiles on my lovesick heart?
