GM, where on the map would the window be (as in what 'space' along the building are we looking through

Salouris peeks over the window sill to see the complex scene before him. Glancing from the goblet to the wire to the mummified hand necklace, the elf's eyes widen.

If there's time before Daragor leaps down...

"Careful," the occultist whispers. "There must be something in that goblet. Most likely alchemist's fire; I would place good odds the hostages are doused in oil. We need to take him out before he topples it."

Can Salouris attempt to use Mage Hand to keep the goblet upright (or try and fight off attempts to tip it)? If so, he'll try to do that as soon as it looks like one of his companions is barging in. It's a psychic spell, so no verbal or somatic components to give him away.

Kingmaker Tactical | Strategic | The Marchlands | Campaign Tracking | Liberation Points: 4

There really isn't 'space' by the window (which is on the western wall, not the south as I incorrectly stated), it's just a big window high on the wall (no ledge or anything). Therefore it's difficult for several party members to all be by the window when Daragor crashes through it. There's not really anywhere to attach a rope either, but I'll allow it to be wrapped around a lot of the ivy. The bulk of the party will have to spend their first actions just getting to a place where they can see before they can even act.

@ Salouris: mage hand doesn't grant the utility of a real hand, so I will give you a 1 in 6 chance (a natural 6 in your favor) of choosing the correct direction to maintain via concentration if you can get the spell off in time. Note that you are not yet high enough to even see the situation.

Initiative:

Daragor: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Hskoro: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Hush: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Rimble: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Salouris: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Sidney: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Hostage Taker: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Fortunately, initiative went really, really well for you all. Still, Salouris needs a move action to get into position, and Hush and Sidney will need two to scale the rope before jumping down if Salouris moves out of the way. Rimble and his roc can fly in.

Daragor crashes through the window above the main hall, taking a few cuts in the process. Slashing Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 The hostage taker turns around in surprise and his eyes immediately dart to the goblet hanging over the table.

@ Salouris: I'll amend the 1/6 chance to 1/5 chance, since pushing down on the cup wouldn't do anything. Rolling a natural 5 would be in your favor if that's what you choose to do!

Could someone move me about 60' closer? I'm not near my pc at the moment. Thanks!

Sure, that'd be a fine use of the token!

Quite suddenly, the front door explodes in a shower of splinters. Framed against the outside light stands Ambrus Valsin himself, scimitar at the ready, next to an eight-foot half-orc baring teeth and fists. Valsin cuts down the kidnapper and a cleric of Pharasma rushes in from behind him to deliver a burst of healing to the company!

Healing: 1d6 ⇒ 4 to all PCs and the hostages, leaving no further losses

Valsin surveys the scene with a grim look and shakes his head. "You there," he shouts at the Pharasmin, "get these initiates to safety. The rest of you, back out into the grounds. There's more fighting to do." As he walks away, you can hear him muttering and blaming himself for not taking care of the situation on his own. "If I wasn't in such a hurry to back to Skyreach... bah. Back at it then."

Unfortunately, "success" here was contingent on the fireball not going off at all.

Take care of healing in your next post(s) -- where to now? Stay Northeast? Go South? Go Northwest?

The thunder of hooves nearby captures your attention as Seelah of Katapesh, Paladin of Iomedae, rides by. A host of Pathfinders in her wake spread out in every direction combing the area for enemies, Pathfinders in need, and the wounded.

Seelah draws up her steed, pulling it around to face you.

She says "Blessings and well met, Pathfinders! You look as if you are heading into more trouble."

She tosses you lot a whistle, like the ones you've seen soldiers on the field of battle use to direct troops.

She then says "If you are ever in need of aid, blow the whistle and Pathfinders within earshot will come to your assistance."

With waiting for a response she turns her horse about and thunders back off into the fray without waiting for a response.

We just used an aid token, and now we have another! Just kidding, that Jesse the Overseer (he hadn't realized we'd already received it). No aid token for now.

The party patches up and heads back out into the grounds. Despite valiant defense by the Society, he Grand Lodge’s campus is overrun with marauders and monsters, while support staff, initiates, and visitors run in peril for their lives.

Yet, nearby groups of Pathfinders cluster together and argue about what to do about it, which team should stand back and support the other, and who has the best idea of what is happening. "You there!" A venture-captain approaches from the direction of Skyreach.

"Janiff Ivulxtin, Venture Captain. You look like you know what you're doing, so I'll give it to you straight. Most of the higher-ups are in and around Skyreach trying to figure out how--and why-- the Aspis are here." He points at one of the nearest huddles of Pathfinders. "Out here there's a leadership gap. But there are important tasks that need doing. Center House has wards and defenses, but it still needs to be cordoned off and protected. Same for the Repository. Somebody's also got to start rounding up visitors and getting them to safety in this sector. I also need someone to stall the District Guards at the Gate--they can't be let onto the grounds."

"I am giving you temporary authority to ensure these tasks are done. Find a team of Pathfinders for each and then get back into the fight."

From this vantage point, there are four Pathfinder groups within sight. The nearest is not far from Center House.

Although Daragor's show of force threatens to break these Pathfinders' spirits entirely, his words are backed by softer voices and turned to an advantage. The group comes to realize that the situation is desperate and they're as likely to die running as guarding. Some timid nods later, they start setting up a defensive position in front of the door.

That issue settled, the party goes on to accomplish the next task. En route, they encounter Professor Nigel Aldain, who is unarmed and looks desperately out of place. "Oh, Pathfinders, good! Can you take me to a safe spot? I was nearly eaten by giant frog a minute ago--barely got away!" Nearby is another gaggle of (relatively) idle Pathfinders, led by a sturdy-looking dwarf.

"A likely story," Shorvan scoffs at Rimble. "You just want to be bossy!"

"Yeah, action. Not escort duty." The dwarf crosses his arms.

Salouris approaches the petulant dwarf.

"The state of emergency gives us the right! VC Ivulxtin authorized us and we are in turn telling you that you need to make sure the professor - a noted ally of the Society - is brought to safety. Don't you remember your training? The Siege of Absalom? The crisis of Devrie? Look around: special circumstances are in place and emergency protocols are in effect."

Salouris will also cite more details about emergency procedures that he (and not I) is aware of. If needed on top of that, his Diplomacy mod is +6.

To accentuate Salouris's words, Hush takes the professor's hand and puts it on Shorvan's shoulder. He jabs a finger in the direction of the gate to safety.

The dwarf gives Salouris a hard stare. At first the elf thinks he might spit in his face, but he shrugs instead. "Alright, fine. Come on, kids, let's get short-beard here to safety," he barks to his much taller companions.

Success!

Next, the party makes its way towards the front Gate. The District Guard shouts demands for entry from beyond the shut gate, and a few Pathfinders loiter nearby, checking their weapons and looking around for something useful to do. They don't like being asked to stall the guard, though, and blanch at the request. A halfling woman in the group pipes up a few excuses in a hurried whisper. "Us? Um. Don't think we'd be the best at, er, that. What if the Guard doesn't take no for an answer? I doubt we could stop them. Will we be arrested? Will someone post my bail? Maybe a Venture Captain should be doing this?"

DC 12 Know (Local):
The Grand Lodge is located in the Foreign Quarter of Absalom for a reason, and it has some of the privileges of an embassy. If the Guard wants to enter the grounds, they'll need a signed warrant from Lord Gyr himself first.

Professor Aldain recoils at having his hand grabbed by this strange masked man. Fortunately, the scuffle occurs near the back and doesn't interrupt the staring contest between dwarf and elf.

"There's not enough Venture Captains to go around. As for stalling the guard, I would think maybe a nice distraction of talking religion or politics would be the best way, outside of a fight, to stall them," Sidney laughs slightly, while holding up his hands.
