Lort and Gunari ride again?
Super!
I have to level Finarin to 8. Might make a purchase or two.
- Ability increase Dex so I am now +6 to hit/Damage
- Improved spell combat which makes my Concentration modifier an obnoxious +21 to cast defensively (auto success on Level 3 spells)
- I get an Iterative attack, Woot!
- Extra Level 2 & 3 spell
Gunari Maximoff |
I'll have to see if Gunari levels today... either way, I will have him ready tonight.
Plus, he'll have another item coming back from an expedition... wonder what he'll get for 3500gp? He doesn't really make good use of rods of extend magic, though that would be the default.
Gunari Maximoff |
Wow.... and I have to update his profile it seems! Been a while since he's been played online?
GM Karma |
So this is a bit of a time warp. Almost all Drongo's have visited Nantambu, and have been searching for Venture-Captain Sharrowsmith. However, this scenario happens before the Scions of Sky Key, and you will be soon meeting a certain NPC "for the first time". So please try to bear with the time being out of joint :)
Concerning APL, who do we have here:
Miro - 6?
Finarin - 8
Gunari - 8
Cyrus - 8
Ibid - 8?
Haafiz -7 / Lort - 8?
With Haafiz 45/6 = 7,5 => 4-party adjustment
With Lort 46/6 = 7,67 => No adjustment
Assuming I got your character levels right. So as Damien said, with Haafiz you'll play with four-player adjustment. Choose whichever option you'd like.
Cyrus the Flea |
I'm good either way. Would be awesome to have Lort back in the fold.

Finarin Moonstep |
Honestly whomever you want to play is good with me.
Gunari Maximoff |
I don't really care, either. Gunari can handle his own with either of them... and I have a feeling that we'll all feel like neophytes next to Finarin the Nova-burst
GM Karma |
There are a couple of tough encounters, but I don't know if four-players adjustment will affect their difficulty in any way. This group of course has track record of running through encounters with ease.
Finarin Moonstep |
Well I care. With Haafiz I can use Stone Call, and he and I can full move around the battle field, leaving Gunari in the dust.
Gunari Maximoff |
"Nothing Personal, Lort. Just don't wanna see you dying, again! I would have helped, but I was doing everything I could to keep our hostess alive!
Though, I was looking forward to fighting by your side, and increasing my lead in the kill counts!"
Gunari Maximoff |
Question -- should I try and recruit an additional player from the locals?
Gunari Maximoff |
that's fine. We shall wait.
GM Karma |
We can wait for Chris B for a couple of days, maybe he's just off-network. But a sixth player would be good.
BTW, Exchange and Grand Lodge members, please check your leader's missive for Year of the Sky Key:
Grand Lodge
The Exchange

So, you'll have several goals in this scenario, but limited (and unknown) time to do it. I listed the goals in campaign info tab.
Plus then there are the more vague faction goals. You ought to figure them out from the missives above, but let me know if you are clueless about them.

Stealing a second to agree with the plan, will do it in character tonight

GM Karma |
Looks like you have a plan.
Now, has anyone heard from Chris? If not, should we ask for someone else to join?
Damien Wilmann |
No email. No PM. No activity (on any of his aliases). I hope the guy's alright... but then again, if he is alright, I'll be a bit cheesed off that he's been absent so long without letting us know. Perhaps the best I can hope for is that his Paizo account got suspended (or he lost all his technology... very hard to do these days).
He's never updated the contact sheet (or anything else) with his phone number and the email I have for him is an AOL account (ie. probably not his primary). I say we play without Chris until further notice.
Let's get another player! I've got a few I can recruit from the Confirmation table I'm running (lots of PFS vets there), if they're willing and have a character in range. Jack, you want to try your friend first?
Haafiz |
Keith? It was Keith?! The very nearly literal yin to my yang?
Oh, so tempted to play Lort now. Too late, I guess.
Haafiz picks up a scroll of breath of life.
Gunari Maximoff |
Keith has been notified.
It will not be Allandar, though.
FYI - I missed a couple of things on my character -- such as the talisman of Life's Breath that was found on an expedition Gunari funded (that's the 3500gp item).
It looks like I am also missing a couple of other things... which I will get on there as soon as I can (hopefully tonight).
Haafiz, do you want Gunari to hold onto your scroll? He can use it with only a 5% chance of failure. (it is a DC10 caster level check -- and then only a 10% chance of a mishap!)
Gunari Maximoff |
GM Karma - as an FYI - I have 4 Hallowed Chalices, each storing the energy of a channel energy for 1 day -- one person can drink one for 4d6 healing.
GM Karma |
Breath of life is range "touch", and needs be used on turn next to the character death, right? Can scrolls be pulled from spring-loaded wrist sheath? Or are there other ways to get the scroll in hand in time?
Haafiz |
Gunari Maximoff |
I also have... when you look at the definition of a scroll, it is typically reinforced with wood dowels, or at least leather straps. I have ruled this is enough to make it work.
However, TABLE VARIATION.
Lightfoot Raven |
Whoa, first PbP. Getting my character straightened out, character sheet, a few purchases, catching up on reading...
GM Karma |
Welcome, Keith! Lightfoot Raven is your character? Dot in to gameplay once you're ready.
I think I'll hold until tomorrow (GMT +2) before staring the first encounter. Let me know if you need more time.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Bah! Somehow when I upgraded my +2 belt of dexterity to a +4 belt of dexterity just before slave masters mirror, I accidentally unequipped the darned thing in herolab. Whoops. At least my attack bonus should have been better than I was using the game, but boy do I feel dumb :)

Yes, I've seen some controversy about it in the forums. But if our resident VL is fine with it, I'm fine with it :)
Gunari Maximoff |
Please don't let that be the reason you accept how I run things... let my logic do that. When that fails... just laugh with me. Seriously.
I am just a guy whose pants put themselves on me one leg at a time... :P
Lightfoot Raven |
A guy who puts his FIVE-STAR pants on one leg at a time.
Besides, VOs can't agree on rules sometimes even.
Finarin Moonstep |
I envisioned it as more of a Texas style belt buckle than bedazzled skinny jeans.
GM Karma |
@Jack: do you have chronicles on Gunari earned as member of Sczarni faction (not The Exchance)? It may or may not have significance during this scenario...
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
@ GM Karma: As Gunari, Cyris, Finarin, Haafiz, and Raven speak to Uzoma and Tuma, is Ibid with them? Or, is he back at the lodge finishing the investigation?
I just want to make sure I don't assume the wrong way in my next post. I had thought he was with them and posted yesterday as such, but now I'm realizing I might have been mistaken. No worries either way, I was just looking for some clarification.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
@ GM Karma: On the chronicle sheet for Technic Siege I'm going to upgrade Ibid's +2 bow to a +3. He has enough gold to do so at the start of the adventure, so my plan was to have Ibid complete the upgrade at the beginning of the scenario before leaving Absalom, I just wanted to make sure you were cool that/give you the heads up. Let me know if you have any thoughts/issues with this.
Thanks!
GM Karma |
Yes, Ibid is with the rest of the party. Note that Haafiz was helping in the audit as well. I assume the whole party moves together, unless you explicitly tell me you are splitting the party. It is the purpose of the scenario that you are running against the time, and most likely are not able to everything. Splitting the party means you are to get more things done, but it is usually the best way to get characters killed. You have been warned ;)
@Ibid: Sure, I'm fine with the upgrading the bow.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
@Ibid: Sure, I'm fine with the upgrading the bow.
Thanks for the quick response.
@ Anyone who will listen: Lately I've really been leaning toward using the retaining rules from UC for Ibid, specifically to change out his 2nd and 3rd levels of Investigator. In place of these, I would have him take either two more levels of ranger(guide) or two more levels of fighter(archer), because these seem to fit what the old man does for the group. I like the idea that he is the group's archer and knowledge guy, but leaves all the climbing and jumping and front-lining to younger pathfinders. And this is really how I've played him for a very long time.
I've actually gone so far as to build up each alternative ( ranger(guide) vs. fighter(archer) ) of him in HeroLab and also to calculate out the gp and pp cost for retraining him, and I'm really close to at last actually going through with the changes after this scenario. If I were to update him like this, I'd still keep Ibid as the the group's knowledge-skill-dude, because I really like this being his 'thing', but I would try to more focus him on not wasting some of his resources for things that others in the group already specialize in (and do much better than he could), like melee, action type skills, buffing, etc.. His poor build has become more apparent to me the more we play later, higher-level scenarios, and everyone else in the group is kicking butt in combat and Ibid stands around going 'pew-pew' with is bow but doesn't seem to do much damage.
What do you all think, terrible idea? If you have any thoughts, feel free to let me know, especially if you think this is a dumb idea. I would love to retrain him, I really would, but at the same time I also feel like I'd be cheating and correcting a mistake I made by taking the 2nd and 3rd levels of Investigator (which were totally my fault) but now they just kind of seem like a waste because I haven't really used these levels/abilities for much of anything in the past few levels and I don't really see going back to make more level in investigator.
