@ Bane: Ardashir has a club in addition to his claws and pincers; Anahita has a spear in addition to her claws and pincers. The plain scorpion belongs to Lucija and is an ally (I usually color code foes unless there's only one). The scorpion you hit with your stunning fist went down so I didn't bother with a Fort save.

@ Tortuga: no problem. I think between Bane and the wall you would have cover, so that's fine.

Bane's muscles begin to tighten painfully as the poison races through his system. Dex Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 Ouch. I'll need several more saves, once per round please.

In a stroke of good news, while Fendahl's cat gets in a rake on Anahita, his second summoned feline jumps atop Ardashir's back, its razor-sharp claws tearing deep red gouges through his desert skin. He wavers and falls to the sand.

"Brother!" Anahita screams. Her eyes level with the Pathfinders, filled with a new hatred. "FOR THE CLAN!!!"

Spear @ Kitty: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33 HIT Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

With the cat in her way returned to its world, Anahita advances on Artian.

Spear @ Artian: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18 MISS
Spear @ Artian: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27 HIT Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Claw @ Artian: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26 MISS
Sting @ Artain: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18 MISS

Round III -- bold may act!
1. Anahita (82 dmg), Ardashir
2. Lucija, Fandral, Artian (64/79 hp), Tortuga (87/114 hp), Bane (6/60 hp, 4 Dex dmg, Fort save!), Fehndal

Okay, here we go!

Fort: 1d20 ⇒ 12

Tortuga leaps forward, delivering a thunderous flying kick to Anahita's jaw. She spits out a tooth in reply. His follow-up spear-hand crunches between her chitinous plates, eliciting a grunt, but she grins as a trio of punches are deflected from her side. Kick hit, no Medusa, second hit, the rest missed. Fendahl shouts his challenge and slips his katana between Anahita's ribs in a tsuki strike and catches momentarily on the bone. "You do not belong here," she growls, ripping the sword free. The shaman is soon joined by Lucija's outmatched scorpion that somehow lands a fiery blow. Artian's huge nodachi delivers a forceful do strike that cuts deep into her shoulder toward her heart.

And with that, Anahita falls.

Out of combat! That was exactly the amount of damage needed.

No problem.

Fendahl is quick-thinking to hand Bane an antitoxin -- unfortunately, the poison in his system is very potent. Even with the antitoxin, only the first save succeeds and you need two consecutive saves to shake it. So:

Bane soon begins to look much worse for wear. Dex Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 2) = 8 12 total Dex damage. Fendahl, go ahead and roll your lesser restoration.

On the girtablilu twins, Lucija identifies (among some mundane gear):

potion of cure moderate wounds (2)
potion of cure serious wounds (2)
potion of lesser restoration (2)
potion of haste
potion of invisibility (3)
elixir of hiding (2)
+1 spear
+1 greatclub
+1 composite shortbow (30 arrows)
+1 hide armor
amulet of natural armor +2
belt of incredible dexterity +2
amulet of mighty fists +1
cloak of resistance +1
alchemist's fire (3)
antitoxin (3)
smokestick (5)
thunderstone (3)
masterwork artisan's tools

Finally, Fendahl finds an ornate key on the body of Ardashir.

Stairs cut into the canyon wall to the right ascend to a sturdy bronze door. Several smashed vases litter the ground nearby, their contents long gone.

Anyone wants another freedom of movement? I think I can cast two or three more and still have enough castings if any other spell becomes a necessity.

Lucija, I've seen you like to stay at the back and cast spells, can you help me by picking some of my scrolls to be used if needed? I made Artian before knowing about "action economy" and without realizing how much haunted curse, and thus needing 2 turns to cast from a scroll, will hamper him so if you don't have any of the following please pick it:

Tortuga would be looking at the walls. I don't know if inspecting them would be the proper term, but he has no reason to turn away, so I will roll a Will save in case it matters.

Why are the walls moving?

Kingmaker Tactical | Strategic | The Marchlands | Campaign Tracking | Liberation Points: 4

Not only do the figures move before Artian's eyes, a terrible wailing sound fills his ears at the edge of his hearing, and doesn't stop. You have been cursed, and take a -2 to Will saves in this place.

@ Tortuga: it specifically says "making a skill check" for the save, so I won't make you take the penalty.

Moving up the staircase, the Pathfinders enter a long hallway that opens into three large rooms on the west side of the temple. On the east side, there is another staircase leading up. Many cracks mar the stone surfaces in this part of the temple.

If You Inspect the Cracks:
You discover a few ancient arrowheads buried in the cracks, crafted with an artful design. Make an Appraise, Craft (weapons), or Knowledge (history) check!

Does anyone speak/read Ancient Osiriani?

No to the Ancient Osiriani

Fendahl moves up the stairs, staying close to Kirrah.

He inspects the cracks but does not recall anything particular about the findings within.

He will (very?) carefully scan the area for any traps or occupants hidden in the immediate area.

Seems we have someone hiding arrow heads or a battle was fought here...perhaps long ago.

Lucija recognizes that the arrowhead design was once popular in Ancient Osirion's golden age. Linguistics could get you there but not with that roll.

Fendahl surveys the area and finds no trapped tiles along the floor's pattern. He notes three rooms ahead, one containing some sort of library, another dominated by a massive statue, and a third from which moving shadows shift. Additionally, he notes a secret 'door' in the southwest corner, though he sees no means of opening it.

Apologies for the delay. Some unexpected travel came up and I spent most of Thursday/Friday in various airports.

By southwest I meant southeast because directions are hard.

Two sets of stairs lead up to the large rectangular library. Seven long bookshelves, each cut out of the rock, are full of stone tablets. Most of the tablets lie scattered in ugly piles. Each of the shelves bears a depiction (see spoiler) that gives a clue to its contents, beneath which is an inscription in Terran. Let me know if you read Terran or Ancient Osiriani.

This is going to take some work to go through. See the spoiler below for the mechanics. Please note the primary way you would like to contribute, secondary way(s) you'd like to contribute, and make a roll for each to start. I'll figure out the rest.

Library Mechanics:
Select one of the seven bookshelves to work on and attempt a check. If two or more of you are working on the same bookshelf, use the highest check result; other rolls that meet or exceed DC 10 add +2 to the roll. In order to study a bookshelf’s contents completely, you must complete (i.e., reach 100% progress in) three tasks, completed in order. Each check requires 5 minutes of work.

Moving: Strength check; attempt DC 15 Fort save vs. fatigue to gain a +5 bonus (failure results in fatigue)
Cataloguing: Perception or Profession (librarian) check, or use a related skill (see below)
Studying: Linguistics or Sense Motive check, or use a related skill (see below). If you cannot read Terran or Ancient Osiriani, take a -5 penalty. If you can read both, gain a +5 bonus.

Any progress in excess of 100% is not carried over to the following task. Reaching 100% in the third task means you discover what information the bookshelf contains.

Roll Results:

DC 15+ = 25% progress
DC 20+ = 50% progress
DC 25+ = 75% progress
DC 30+ = 100% progress

Bookshelves and Related Skills

The following are the carvings on each bookshelf (from east to west) and the alternate skills you can use when attempting to catalogue and study the shelf’s contents.

1: Woman with one hand on her cheek, the other in a jar—Craft (alchemy) or Disguise.
2: Man in a battle pose with a fine scimitar—Craft (weapons) or Profession (soldier).
3: Woman poring over a text with eyes wide open—Knowledge (religion) or Linguistics.
4: Man holding his hands up, motes of energy circling around him—Knowledge (arcana) or Spellcraft.
5: Man adoring himself in a mirror—Perform (any) or Sense Motive.
6: Man looking at clouds in the sky and sowing seeds in the ground-Profession (farmer) or Survival.
7: Woman marveling at the sun and the moon—Knowledge (geography) or Perception.

Lucija dismisses her fiery scorpion (assuming it hadn't gone away already) and re-summons Naghamadi (a process that goes a little like this).

"Come," She explains to her companion. "We've research to do!"

After looking at the texts for a moment, she frowns, and pulls out an old wand she's never actually used before - a slender mangrove-wood number carved into an alternating sequence of polyhedral shapes - which she gently waves over her and Naghamadi's faces (2 charges spent from a comprehend languages wand) before setting to work.

Gah, this is a mess by PbP. Remember, you have to do things in order, so you'll want to do equal parts Moving, Cataloging, and Studying.

Artian assists Tortuga in moving one pile of tablets, which Tortuga and Fendahl are then able to catalog with the help of Fandral. Lucija gives the row a brief study (Comprehend counts) and announces that this shelf, the fourth shelf in the very middle, deals with the teaching of sorcery and arcane sigils.

She also reads out the inscriptions that label each of the shelves:

1. Art of Cosmetics
2. Art of Weaponry
3. Bitter and Sweet Secrets of Wisdom Progress: Study roll = 43
4. Resolving of Enchantments COMPLETED
5. Secrets of Mirrors
6. Signs of the Clouds and the Earth Progress: Study roll = 21
7. Signs of the Sun and Courses of the Moon

We'll pick this up again in a moment, because...

The Pathfinders' work is interrupted by a very loud humming noise that thrums to life on the other side of the temple; they also notice that the seeker stone is now shaking uncontrollably. Small cracks begin to form in the walls and dust showers down from above.

DC 15 Perception, Kn Engineering, or Kn Dungeoneering:
Unless this shaking is stopped, the structure will likely collapse in about an hour.

Moving to investigate, the Pathfinders pass the massive statue to the far room. In the shadowy hall to the north, a cylinder of perfectly smooth volcanic glass stands in the center of an
eye-shaped symbol. Unnatural shadows radiate from within the cylinder, darkening its immediate surroundings as indistinct shapes swim in the inky blackness. One-inch-thick copper wires embedded in the floor extend from the base of the cylinder, connecting it to three stone tables on the west side of the room.

A dark energy visibly seeps through the wires, flowing towards the tables. Each table has an indentation in its surface. On the first table is an indentation of the same size and shape as the tablets the Pathfinders had just been handling in the library. The word "Rebirth" is haphazardly carved into the table in twenty different languages. The second table has an indentation in the shape of a body, surrounded by arcane sigils. The final table has an indentation in a large circle fit for a giant's bracelet, the shape of a snake eating its own tail.

DC 23 Spellcraft:
The sigils on the central table suggest that anyone who lays on it is subject to a vampiric touch spell.
