Why I waited to give you time to declare any preparations you might want to make:

I was waiting to see if anyone noticed or remembered this sentence from the 15th post in the thread, while you were asking questions about your mission. "They’re a local group called Efwurwa’s Fury—all elemental beings. Apparently Grasping Storm specifically requested elemental mercenaries, and has refused to hire anyone who isn’t at least as tied to air as a slyph."

As it is, the party takes a -2 penalty on the bluff check for EACH party member who is not disguised as a Sylph or air creature - including that wolf! XD There is supposed to be a further chance to boost your credibility by displaying your prowess with air effects, but you are currently so far from meeting the DC that I think we can safely skip that sequence.

The demon looks at each of you intently and in turn.

"Even if what you say is true, we have no interest in the likes of you. Beysal you fool, you should have known better. But it would be such a waste to let you come all the way here for nothing. The least I could do is kill you all for sport."

All though all of you are ready for a fight, Bo is the only one who manages to sense the demon's intent even before he speaks, and is able to act just before they make their strike.

Each block of stairs raises the eleveation by 5ft, so the ramparts they are on are 30ft higher than you. Assume Beysal's airship is floating somewhere above you. As she said, she does not participate in this battle in any way.

Bow Go Twang's bow goes twang twice in rapid succession, and his arrows fly true enough, but just before they strike the demon's chest, powerful gusts of wind blow the shafts off course! The demon smirks malevolently.

At his signal, both drakes spit what appear to be balls of solid mist that explode into a clouds of fog upon impact, shrouding the area around you in mist. A second later, you hear rapid thudding on the ground as the area is pounded by hail. Amidst all this, the mocking laugh of the demon rings in your ears.

Each of you suffer the following:
13 bludgeoning damage and fall prone, DC18 reflex for half and avoid falling prone
10 bludgeoning damage and fall prone, DC18 reflex for half and avoid falling prone
2 bludgeoning and 2 cold damage, DC18 reflex for half
Your pride also suffers 200 points of indignity damage, no save

Notes for the map:
The teal circles mark areas affected by an effect equivalent to obscuring mist, rising to a height of 20ft.
The dark blue rectangles also appear to be thick mist, rising to a height of 30ft.
Movement up the stairs is considered difficult terrain.

Ok it's been a weekend and then some. I'm gonna bot Karos.

Karos is knocked down by the breath weapons and takes significant damage. Knowing he needs to get out of the fog to be able to do anything, he gets up off the ground and begins moving to where he last saw the stairs. He manages to find them and begins walking up...

The guards of the tower are not done yet though.

The pathfinders in the fog feel a rush of wind as the drakes swoop in. Karos manages to dodge a bite from the drake above him... while Rahab curses as a draconic fanged maw suddenly appears from the fog and closes around the potion bottle in his hand, shattering it.

Draconic:
"Ha ha ha ha ha! Yes, hold a potion in your hand for all to see. Of course we will stand by and let you drink it!"

Sarvin sees the demon flying towards him, but instead of landing in front of him to engage him in melee, the demon unleashes a torrent of wind that threatens to blow him clean off the battlements!

Sarvin, you need to make 2 fort saves at DC18. If you fail the first one, you take 6 nonlethal damage and fall prone (save halves the damage and you don't fall prone). If you fail the second save you take 6 damage and are pushed 20ft to the West, which will send you over the parapet and off the tower (fortunately you are on the plane of air so this is not a death-sentence). Only the second roll has the potential to send you flying over the wall.

Rahab's potion has been sundered.

Pathfinders are up.

Rahab confirms both the drake's location above Karos that the drakes are able to see them as it snaps at him while he tries to run past. Fortunately, the bite closes in on the thickest part of his armour and does not penetrate.

Oleander casts her spell and her wolf continues to run along the wall looking for prey.

Sarvin is buffeted by the winds created by the demon, but he avoids getting knocked down or blown away. However, he is also most perplexed as even his point-blank shot is deflected by the winds whipping around the demon! The demon laughs in disdain at Sarvin's failed attempt to hurt him.

Karos, if you move two squares south you will indeed be adjacent to the demon, though Rahab is now in that square. The grey line shows the direction of a large blast of wind that is still persisting.

Bow's bow goes twang twice as he fires into the fog at what he thinks is the silhouette of the drake, and curses when he realises he was mistaken.

Karos strides up the stairs and takes a claw-swipe in the side for his trouble. Karos responds with an angry retort as he shoves his pistol into the demon's chest and fires. The demon twists aside to avoid an immediately fatal wound, but the adamantine bullet still goes deep into a less-vital part of the demon's chest and drawing a good amount of... well... you were expecting blood, but instead it seems to trail some kind of white mist from its wound.

I believe that gives the award for first-blood drawn by the party to Karos!

Determined to even the score, the demon tears into Karos with claws and bite before flying a little further back from the gunslinger.

Meanwhile, the lingering mist from the drakes' breath begins to clear. Bow looks up and finally sees clearly where the drake above him is... right as it bites and swipes at him with maw and tail. The other drake swoops in to join the butchery like an opportunistic hyena. However, the slippery archer is able to see them clearly this time and dodges all their attacks!

Karos takes 29 damage from claws and bites in total. You have also ended your turn in a river of wind, and must make a DC18 fort save. If you pass, you take 1 nonlethal damage, and if you fail you you take 3 nonlethal damage... and are blown 20ft to the West, off the wall! Which could be a problem since I think you might be in the negatives now...

Terrain note: The river of wind marked by the grey line clears the fog in those squares. However, this still prevents the 3 pathfinders in that fog from seeing any enemies from where they are standing.

I am confused as to where the demon is now. Is he on the ground? Or is he flying in mid air? This affects my actions. Could you specify his elevation if he is flying on the battlemap?

sorry I missed there how far is the demon in relation to me? He's not near the top of the stairs?

Question. Since the demon dropped me to -4 hp, do I still get a Fortitude save? I'm thinking not!

Fort save, if I get one:
Fort save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

However, I'm using Karos's Determination ability for Defense: Defense: When the inquisitor would be hit by a melee or ranged attack, as an immediate action she may add a +4 insight bonus to her Armor Class against that attack, and if this makes the inquisitor’s AC higher than the opponent’s attack roll, the attack misses.

He'll use that against the demon's first successful attack.

Sorry Karos he still hits you. You still get saving throws when unconscious..

Sarvin, you really need to look at the map. The link is at the top of the page. Laterally speaking he is hovering at the same elevation at you, but you're standing on some battlements and he's hovering in mid-air.

Karos, even though he is unconscious, manages to not get blown away by the stream, and because he is not blown away, Rahab is able to heal him a little. Bow and Oleander unleash arrows on green, significantly wounding it.

Ok, after re-checking Karos' hp to make sure I'm not screwing him over, I've confirmed that the demon's attack only knocked him to -1hp, which still knocked him out and left him on the floor. The healing from Rahab brings Karos back to consciousness, but he still has 3 problems: he is prone, his gun is on the floor, and the river of wind is still trying to blow him (and his gun) off the tower.

Sarvin and Karos are still up...

It's technically difficult terrain but I'll allow it, mainly 'cos it's not what I was waiting to see you would do...

Karos regains consciousness, grabs his gun crawls out of the river of wind before either he or his weapon is blown away by the winds. Sarvin lines up a shot on the demon and fires.

GM:

3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1) = 13
2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4

Unfortunately for Sarvin, it appears that the winds whipping around the demon are not completely incapable of deflecting bullets, and they adjust the trajectory just enough to sent the bullet whizzing past the demon's face.

The demon snarls at his near brush with serious injury, and flies a little further back before pointing at the pathfinders and wolf clustered at the second level of the battlements. He yells a command to the drakes, who ignore Bow for a moment to once more as they circle around in the air to gain some elevation and unleash their breath weapons once more. At the same time, the demon calls down another rain of hailstones from the sky to pound at the pathfinders.

Due to elevation differentials, Bow is excluded from the breath AoE.

Sarvin, Karos and Rahab however present the most concentrated group of targets. The three of you:
1. take 9 points of bludgeoning damage and are knocked prone (DC18 reflex save for half and avoid being knocked prone), and
2. take 13 points of bludgeoning damage and are knocked prone (DC18 reflex save for half and avoid being knocked prone), and
3. take 3 points of bludgeoning damage and 1 point of cold damage (DC18 reflex save for half).

Karos, I was waiting to see if you would move out of the clustered kill-zone or heal yourself somehow... As it stands, I think you only have 3hp at the moment so I really hope you roll well! =(

Once the saves are rolled and carnage is done, it will be the pathfinders' turn again. The area in the cyan circle is covered in fog once more, except for the river of wind which blows the fog away.

So. The only in tier character is now down. A%&+$#$ McClownfish the demon/devil can't be hurt by any ranged weapons it seems and none of us can deal with this crap. Anyone feel like we should try to withdraw? More importantly, CAN WE withdraw?

GM forgot to roll some things earlier that don't affect you:

Bo Goh Twang's bow goes twang twang twang again. The first arrow hits, drawing blood, the second misses and the third one gets it right through the eye socket, sending it falling to the ground with a loud roar, and then a shudder. Its partner roar angrily and hurls curses at the monk in Auran.

Don't forget that Karos managed to hurt the demon. If Karos manages to survive the latest bombardment, your best bet might be to try to get him back to conscious and shooting, and try to keep him alive.

Bow's potions may also prove useful, if not now then later. If you start coordinating your tactics, you might still be able to pull a victory. Alternatively, if you want to try to retreat, the Williwaw is currently hovering 50ft above the tower, but you have to remember that your opponents can also fly.

Rahab, Sarvin, Oleander and Karos are up. In Karos' case, it's mainly to see if he makes it...

Rahab would normally fit the bill, but he's at 8 hp, and I'm not sure I can get around the BBEG's AC at this tier. Main thing though is HP.

Sarvin, how hurt are you on a scale... I don't know, of one to fifty-six?

I've taken some damage. Does the demon have DR? Sorry to meta game @GM - I thought I fired and missed then fell prone?
