Val takes in the situation at a glance...if they can clear the field quickly, they can stop the robed one from freeing whatever is in the cage. With the two beasts grappled they'll be less able to dodge...

He quickly removed his Star Knife holy symbol from his neck, mutters a quick prayer to Desna, and the symbol catches with holy flame. He shouts a war cry, and mimics spiking the holy symbol to the ground...and a pillar of holy fire lances down from the sky, seeming to follow the motion and engulfing the grappled duo!

    Flame Strike: 9d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 1, 4, 2, 6, 4, 1, 1) = 25 <--ref DC 20 (don't forget -4 dex!!)

Donning the smoking symbol again, he limbers his bow...

You strike out for the Menagerie. A shifting mass of tents and canvas tarpaulins covering dozens of pens and enclosures of varying sizes is pressed up against the lodge’s western wall. Wagons bearing food and supplies brought in from the city are parked nearby. Other wagons contain caged enclosures like those that used in a traveling circus.

Larger tents cover metal cages of enormous size. To the east, the grass is compacted from regular foot traffic to the training grounds. A trio of creatures run amok in the menagerie area. They're humanoid looking beasts. Two of them wear robs, but the third looks like a warrior of skill bearing a longsword and shield.

When they see you the warrior and a robed one move to meet you while the other stays behind trying to open a cage which contains a massive beast.

    The enemy closes with confidence.

The robed one who stayed behind tries to jimmy the lock, but doesn't spring it yet.

The robed one approaching takes out a scroll and castes a spell

The warrior creature uses his new-found speed and closes.

Angrid rises up into the air to get a full view of the battlefield.

Angrid, not wanting to deal with an escalating encounter decides to give the two spellcasters something to think about. Drawing a small octopus tentacle, he says a quick incantation, and with the right motions draws up a large area of black, writhing tentacles from the abyss.

Just the three of those winged creatures that caught the whole convocation by surprise. Hopefully there aren't any others of their ilk lurking nearby...

Zefnir slowly strides forth in Omrax's wake. Just walking for now as a Move.

Stopping a fairly discrete distance away, Zefnir raises his hands on high (one of them with the buckler resting upon his forearm, at the ready) and intones, "In the names of the Wandering Dreamer, the Ever-Fire of the Dawn, the Eternal Judge of All, the Dual Coupling of Sky and Sea, and the Watchful Guardian of the Woods- let the Heavens themselves give their blessings to our task!"

Zefnir casts Bless as a Standard (-1 1st level spell) with himself as the source point for the Bless. All Allies within 50 feet of him gets a +1 morale bonus to Attacks and Saves versus Fear effects, if applicable.

DM Mistake before, the baddies are too far apart for a flame strike to hit both. I'm assuming you want the one trying to open the door (and who failed his save.)

Faeron bides his time while the creatures act. The closer robed creature snarls as he abandons the lock and tries a spell of his own Concentration: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22, but loses the spell.

It's going to sound kind of crazy, but what if we were to "sweeten the pot", as it were, by offering some of the leftover items from the wyvarans not picked by us to those would-be glory hounds if they would kindly escort their civilian charges to the gate? Of course, this would be after we all have chosen out stuff that can be used from the pile. Of course, it goes without saying that all of us would have to be on-board with such a decision.

And speaking of choosing items at the finish of our last fight, Zefnir could probably temporarily use some of things, like one of cloak of resistance +2, one of the headband of alluring charisma +2, one of the amulet of natural armor +1, and one of the ring of protection +1. With a casting of Enhanced Diplomacy and the headband, this should give Zefnir at least a +16 for a diplomacy check.

I would imagine that Zefnir might try to suggest to the would-be glory-hounds that escorting Nigel would be a test to see if they are trustworthy enough to be given more responsibilities; that Nigel, being a close ally of the society and capable of heading to the gate on his own, but what if there was a possibility that Nigel might actually be evaluating their worthiness for some future possible Blakros-funded expedition? Lastly, Zefnir might take the chummy, looking out for each other tack, and sweeten the pot (if unanimously agreed upon) with the found items by suggesting that we all want to see each other be more glorious and the way to do that is by doing the escort task. Zefnir may even suggest having some of them stay while some of us (maybe Omrax and one other?) go help with the escorting so that "we can show our sincerity in helping one another by looking out for each other, just like an actual field mission". Will also try to play up that we are experienced in these matters, so we know of what we speak, even if religiously motivated as we mostly are. Of course, all this is dependent if they agree to such terms in the first place (or I end up botching that diplomacy check).

You could be right; I'm not all that clear on the fly skill stuff myself... always thought that it had to be rolled after each instance of flying regardless, but from what you're suggesting, the fly check only really applies on my next flight turn if I don't use the full fly movement then?
