Azeban Guitou |
"What do we do about the boy? Even if we attack his form, which I do not advise considering he may still be alive in there, the ooze will simply switch to another body."
When he finishes speaking, Azeban, starts casting a spell.
Casting Silent Image. Spellcraft DC to identify is 17, failure by 5 or more means believing that Azeban casted Summon Monster VI. Illusion is a Shadow Demon. Will DC 15 to disbelieve when interacted with. I'm placing it on the square SE of robot 2.
A figure in shadow explodes into being from the ground near the second construct, the darkness covering its form deep but silken at the same time. It does not move, watching its enemies with a hunter's patience.
Faustus Sulpicius Voralius |
"I'd say we do nothing, unless he fights. If he fights, then we try and subdue him." Faustus says, in a loud clear voice, hoping that the Blakros boy can hear him.
He then moves up, closing some of the difference between him and the constructs. "Power and glory to Asmodeus! he cries, as he casts bless. (+1 to hit, and fear saves for 6 minutes)
He will then declare a judgement (Protection) to gain a +2 Profane bonus to his AC.
"You tin-plated abominations! Test your might against a servant of the Prince of Darkness! I predict that he finds you not worthy!"
DM Beckett |
Quickest to act, Karos dives into a secure spot, levels his weapon, and fires, startling everyone with it's unnatural explosion. The holy bullet hits, but doesn't seem to do much damage as the robot begins to absorb it into it's own mass.
Gerdur moves up while Faustus goes the other way. Jory unleashes a torrent of adamantine arrows at one of the creatures, not enough to kill it, but certainly enough to put it down for a while. That last arrow hits something vital within the metal man, causing it to explode in a shower of sparks and gadgetry, but even then you can see it beginning to slowly rebuild itself, leaving you to wonder if you can even kill them.
Then suddenly, just next to the remaining one and also the barbarian, some sort of demonic figure appears. It seems to pull the ambient light around you towards it, using that power to strengthen it's visceous claws.
ROUND 1
Karos (), Gerdur (), Faustus (), Jory (),
Azeban (), & Leil ()
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Pendlton Blakros" () & Robot 2 (-1)
DM Beckett |
Leil delays
The infected boy retreats from the violence, taking cover behind bits of table and whatever else he, or it can get ahold of. The tin-man, though, seems undecided on what to do, focusing a little longer on the Shadow Demon than it normally would.
Gerdur 1, Illusion 2: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Unable to identify the threat, nor a true vital signs from it, it's programing kicks in and forces the machine to attack the illusion.

Faustus Sulpicius Voralius |
spellcraft to know if it was an illusion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 Sorry, should have done this earlier
Assuming that Faustus has figured out it was an illusion spell, and not a summons, he will move into the square that the illusion is in (he needs to be there to attack). What he does otherwise will be in a spoiler, following
He will then declare contruct bane on his adamantine mace (swift action), and attack with power attack.
power attack adamantine +1 bane mace: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 adamantine damage, if it hits: 1d8 + 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (7) + (5, 4) + 11 = 27
kn: Planes: 1d20 + 8 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 3 + 3 = 25
"Damnit, Azeban! Your stinking Invidiak is in my way! Get it out of the way, or I am going through it!"
Instead of declaring the bane, he will cast Litany of Sloth on the demon, just to be safe. will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 (still won't know) and then he will move to the square to the left of the "demon", since it won't be able to provoke, at least as far as he knows. This will be a double move due to the obstacles, but he will get to be next to the critter for next round.
Note: Judgement is still on Protection, so his AC is 29
Jory Redcap |
Jory begins to fire at the robot first and the boy he suspects is not quite a real boy with his indestructible arrows of adamantine.
Ki for extra shot, perfect shot on first arrow
att/damage: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 161d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 141d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

att/damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 101d8 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Jory fires all his good arrows wildly, flustered by the funny looking boy.
Five rolls none higher than a five
Azeban Guitou |
Azeban stops concentrating on the image of the shadow demon after the robot attacks it, its job in distraction already done.
He begins casting another spell.
Might be a longshot, but I'm trying Sleep on the boy. It will go off next round on my turn at Will DC 16. Spellcraft DC to identify the spell is 17, failure by 5 or more means believing that Azeban is casting Enlarge Person.
Faustus Sulpicius Voralius |
Azeban stops concentrating on the image of the shadow demon after the robot attacks it, its job in distraction already done.
This means that based on init order, Faustus's primary action should go off.
Karos Valdian |
Karos keeps up his routine of loading and firing as fast as he can.
Judgment of Justice: +1 sacred bonus to attack rolls.
+1 musket, Point Blank Shot & Judgment of Justice: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 + 1 = 17 <- vs. Touch AC
damage: 1d12 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 1 = 7
DM Beckett |
Karos takes aim and fires, but again, the bullet hits and seems to be more absorbed into the creature that was Pendlton rather that really hurting it (much). Gerdur, hoping to take advantage of the situation steps over and swings, but his wrath is for not, as the metal man tips it's spear, averting the blow, leaving it wide open for Faust's swing that sends bits of metal flying. Jory, perhaps for the first time, sends a volley of arrows, and utterly fails to hit with even one, while Azeban, from the back, begins to chant the word of a spell.
No longer distracted by the illusion, the gearsman thrusts it's electrified spear at Faustus, stabbing into the dark man with surprising ease, and even twisting the blade for good measure before quickly, mechanically pulling it back out and to the ready.
Sensing that it's warriors can no longer defend it, the thing infecting young Mr. Blakros steps up and slams it's metal encrusted fists into Gerdur.

ROUND 3
Karos (), Gerdur (-4), Faustus (-18), Jory (),
Azeban (*), & Leil ()

"Pendlton Blakros" () & Robot 2 (-30)
Karos Valdian |
Ow! Daaaang!
Karos changes his judgment to one of destruction.
+1 musket & Point Blank Shot: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 7 + 1 = 25 <- vs. Touch AC
Damage, Judgment of Destruction: 1d12 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 10
Faustus Sulpicius Voralius |
Faustus grumbles something in Infernal under his breath. He switches his Judgement into Destruction, figuring that a good offense is the best defense. He then attacks with The Final Arbitration once more.
Power Attack, bane, w/ Bless: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 Adamantine bane destruction mace: 1d8 + 2d6 + 9 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (2) + (3, 6) + 9 + 2 + 4 = 26
"Let that be a lesson taught to you."
Gerdur Knee-Biter |
Gerdur grunts as the Blakros boy smacks him. He snarls something low in his throat, his rage overcoming his mercy! Power attack with Rage!: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27 for 1d10 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20 damage against the infested boy!
Jory Redcap |
Jory uses his monkish concentration to fire his new indestructible arrows, starting with the robot. When robot is down, Jory will fire with blunt arrows at the boy. Damage dice will be rerolled as d6 and -4 for nonlethal will be applied. Jory is saving his last perfect shot reroll for the boy with a blunt arrow, I will make it at the end.
"Robot, take this!!"
arrow1/damage: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 181d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
arrow2/damage: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 201d8 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
arrow3/damage: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 221d8 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
arrow4/damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 111d8 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
"I am glad I bought twenty of these f*(^%ing things!!!"
DM Beckett |
Smashing the robot apart, you soon turn your combined focus on the Blakros boy, and between multiple arrows, he falls. His broken body begins convulsing, obviously in pain and only barely clinging to life. Bits of metal and wood, his second skin, begin to fall off. Underneath is a young boy, covered in wounds, with some of the bits taken from the museum still imbedded in his flesh.
Azeban finishes his sleep enchantment, at least putting the boy at ease for the moment. It's finally over. The child has been saved, and you can finally get out of this damned place and back to the real world where magical artifact don't try to eat you and you can lounge in bed, perhaps with company.
You can see Pendlton is still breathing, albeit labored. Whatever infection that thing was, it was not kind, but he will live. Asleep, his head suddenly turn towards you, and from his open mouth, mimicking a scream, a silvery goo suddenly gushes from hi face, eyes, mouth, nose. It seeps from his wounds, and before you can even react, begins to flow towards Faustus, washing over the dark knight, and forcing itself into him, infecting him like some sort of living, sentient mechanical disease.
Automatic Damage to Faustus: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8 + Distraction
ROUND 4

Fort save (distraction): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Fort save (possession): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
"Thank you, Dark Prince"
Jory Redcap |
Jory looks shocked at the gooey stuff, definitely not happy with it. It confirms some of his suspicions about the devil worshipper as he looks at Faustus and the goo patch.
"It ain't gonna catch me. And if you came all this way to gain silvery goo power, devil man, I am gonna stick ya!!"
He looks around. "We better get out of here."
Jory rushes to avoid the goo and get the boy to save. Then he remembers he has to pick up all those arrows he shot as they cost a fortune. He slaps his head in frustration.
Azeban Guitou |
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Sweet. Just reached it.
"I think I recognize it, but barely. I can tell you it is immune to all weapons but I can assume energy damage hurts it and it is especially vulnerable to electricity. It can only be hurt outside a host as well!"
Faustus Sulpicius Voralius |
in arcana: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 3 = 24
"We need Gerva back in here, with her fire staff! Faustus yells at the top of his lungs. He lets the bane drop, as it won't help here, and moves his Judgement to Purity, gaining a +2 profane bonus on saves. He wonders if he can use the wand of remove disease as a weapon.
"Gerva, get back in here NOW! Leil, if you don't have any energy attacks, go get her!"
He then steps back five feet (diagonally away from Karos) and puts away his mace.
DM Beckett |
I'm assuming you disarmed her already.
DM Beckett |
With no other immediate threats in sight, you disarm and bind her. She is a strange creature, this woman, wearing outlandish, barbaric cloths, but filled with trinkets and gear not unlike what you see in some of the nearby display cases.
She is alive, but unconscious, and truly, not too terribly wounded. On her you find a wand, five magical arrows crackling with electricity, another small metal "rock", a Masterwork Shortbow, a Masterwork Short Sword, and a small sack of coins and valuables hanging from her hip. (These look like hers rather than things she was stealing from the museum).
Please not that these arrows will not help anymore.
Jory Redcap |
Jory mentions:
"If someone makes themselves helpless or unarmed when they are possessed, it will it make it easier for us to take you out Faustus."
Gerdur Knee-Biter |
Gerdur snarls when he hears Azeban's words, something clicks in his eyes and he steps 5 feet back and murmurs a few syllables in an arcane tongue. Casting burning hands, Reflex DC 12 save for 5d4 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 2, 4) = 12 fire damage!
DM Beckett |
Refl: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
The Nanite swarm easily avoids a great deal of the flame, but what does hit it stings.
I wasn't sure if anyone else was doing anything?
ROUND 4
Karos (), Gerdur (-4), *Faustus (-26)*, Jory (),
Azeban (*), & Leil ()
-----------------------------------------------------------
Silver Nanite Goo (-9)
Faustus Sulpicius Voralius |
Who would have the stuff? Is it just point, and press a button?
Faustus works on delaying tactics, hoping that he doesn't die or get possessed.
He'll use his last 1st level spell to cast Resistance on himself.
Fort Save for Distraction: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 2 = 22
Fort Save for Possession: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 = 16
After this, his Fort will be +11
"Electricity, not fire, Gurdur!!! We've already ascertained that!"
DM Beckett |
The swarm again tries to wash over Faustus, but gets hit by the flames once more. Leil grabs the rifle and unleashes it's furry while Jory and Azeban get the child to safety. Finally, it stops, and falls to the ground not unlike a torrent of water, but rather than splashing, it almost crumbles, small bits of metal that themselves begin to crumble away to nothing like dust in the wind.
With the Technic League team mostly slain and the cyberplasm destroyed the surviving staff of the Blakros Museum can begin cleaning and repairs. With the chaos in the museum put to rest, Nigel Aldain immediately begins assessing the damage in hopes of still opening the following night. As you exit the museum, perhaps for the final time, you find Gerda waiting outside, calmed by Nigel. She plans to return to Numeria and reporting the Nanite swarm destroyed anything of value in addition to slaying her friends, but confides that she will both report your intervention, knowing it saved her life, and also that she will not forget what you have dones.
A few days later, the Blakros family invites you to a feast in your honor, thanking you for saving their child and securing the world famous museum, a task the Pathfinder Society has become rather adapt at. While there, they make you a rather special proposition, (see the boon) and introduce you personally to many of the great families and key members of Absalom's court.(see other boon)
It's certainly a night worth remembering, but such things can not last. You finally get back to your room deep into the latenight hours, and just as you manage to fall into bed, still drunk and rather full, you hear a nocking at your door. . .
"You are needed in the VC's office in 20 mins. . ."
Azeban Guitou |
Azeban takes a moment in silence to gather himself and drink a stashed Alchemist's Kindness before heading to the office to make it in time, changing his clothes to something more presentable with a command word.
Faustus Sulpicius Voralius |
Always ready for this sort of thing, Faustus gets out of bed. He summons an aid to help him don his armor, puts on his iron mask, and heads to the Venture-Captain's office.
'At least it isn't 3 AM, like Drandle Dreng often summons Pathfinders at.'
